:00:12. > :00:17.being killed on Yorkshire's roads. This was the scene last night near

:00:17. > :00:23.Selby. Last night, two motorcyclists were killed in North Yorkshire. This

:00:23. > :00:26.year, seven have died already. And North Yorkshire Police have had

:00:26. > :00:32.enough of doubts on Yorkshire's roads.

:00:32. > :00:35.Also tonight, Eid Mubarak. Hundreds of thousands of people in Yorkshire

:00:35. > :00:42.mark the end of Ramadan. We investigate how it helps businesses

:00:42. > :00:47.here. And why this man from Marsden is

:00:47. > :00:51.striding around with a stick and a song.

:00:51. > :00:55.And it's been another pleasant day. These were the fine conditions over

:00:55. > :01:05.Tadcaster at what is in store for the weekend? I will be back later

:01:05. > :01:17.

:01:17. > :01:23.this one 180 mph. Many of us love to ride them but they are causing the

:01:23. > :01:27.police a great deal of concern. One of our most senior officers accused

:01:27. > :01:31.a hard-core bikers at treating parts of North Yorkshire like a race

:01:32. > :01:36.track. Last night a motorcyclist was killed near Selby. Today another was

:01:36. > :01:40.injured near Middlesbrough. In North Yorkshire, seven bikers have died

:01:40. > :01:48.this year. We will talk to some in a moment.

:01:48. > :01:53.How it looks from the biker's point of view. Speeds and dangers

:01:53. > :01:56.highlighted where police had to pick up the pieces. The number of deaths

:01:56. > :02:02.are North Yorkshire's roads has taken a turn for the worst. A

:02:02. > :02:09.48-year-old biker killed in a collision with a car near Selby.

:02:09. > :02:16.Road deaths involving bikers in the period has stood in 2010 at 11,

:02:16. > :02:20.don't you just to last year, but this year back to 11. We will

:02:20. > :02:26.concentrate on motorcycling routes and those people who are stupid or

:02:26. > :02:31.reckless enough to do things I try and create speed records. We will do

:02:31. > :02:35.any -- everything in our power to prosecute them.

:02:35. > :02:41.This is the road between Helmsley and Stokesley, popular for bikers to

:02:41. > :02:48.often in the past, has seen deaths and serious injury.

:02:48. > :02:54.Zoe Billings knows the hazards. Italy fast road and has areas of

:02:54. > :02:59.Headon junction, farm entrances, and a lot of motorcyclists don't

:02:59. > :03:05.appreciate that or factor that in. The county's mobile safety cameras

:03:05. > :03:11.helped trap some speedsters. motor cycles coming towards us, we

:03:11. > :03:16.think we are exceeding the speed limit, and we can see this footage

:03:16. > :03:19.from the side coming up to the bikes and get their rear plates, so all

:03:19. > :03:26.three systems are linked into one so we can capture them coming towards,

:03:26. > :03:33.passing and a dressing. Bikers have been sparked -- clocked at speeds

:03:33. > :03:36.over 100 mph, doing release and standing up. It is a huge impact on

:03:36. > :03:42.resources and an impact on communities, so all those aspects

:03:42. > :03:46.are concerning, but mainly it is a tragic loss of life. Whoever's fault

:03:46. > :03:55.it is for the disturbing rise in biker deaths, these are very clear

:03:55. > :04:05.it is sheer speed that kills. You had a lot to say about this on

:04:05. > :04:22.

:04:22. > :04:27.our Facebook page. Jeanette Wright them coming. You can post a message

:04:27. > :04:35.on our Facebook page. What do motorcyclists make of this? Ian

:04:35. > :04:39.White is in Helmsley. Helmsley is a real magnet for bikers

:04:39. > :04:44.and the road between Helmsley and Stokesley is popular. It has been

:04:44. > :04:50.described in a biking magazine as the Northern TT, which may be a

:04:50. > :04:56.little naughty. Jolly, you have been a biker for 30 years. What you make

:04:56. > :05:02.of the latest initiative from the police? Why are things so bad?

:05:02. > :05:07.think the increased figures, there are a lot of factors. The quality of

:05:07. > :05:10.roads is pondering these days. We have suffered some bad winters, wet

:05:10. > :05:15.summers and the quality of roads from a motorcyclist's point of view

:05:16. > :05:21.is upon them. What blame should bikers take? We do see irresponsible

:05:21. > :05:26.riding. It is a small percentage of bikers that are irresponsible. There

:05:26. > :05:29.are a few out there who need to address their riding style and the

:05:30. > :05:34.majority of riders just want to make progress. Does this it your blood

:05:34. > :05:38.boiling when you hear the police talk of bikers using the roads as a

:05:38. > :05:44.race track? It does because it doesn't represent motorcycling in

:05:44. > :05:49.general. They could 11 deaths. One death is terrible, even 11 is really

:05:49. > :05:53.bad, but in a lot of cases they don't state how it happened. It is

:05:53. > :05:58.often not a solo motorcycle but involvement with another vehicle.

:05:58. > :06:03.You want motorists to take more care as well? If motorcycle attacked if

:06:03. > :06:09.motorists were more aware of motor cycles and showed a little bit more

:06:09. > :06:14.care, we are very vulnerable, we don't have a bump buddy crash.

:06:14. > :06:20.of a certain age seem to be dying as well, more mature men. Adele, you

:06:20. > :06:27.are a lady biker. What you make of it? What can I say? Are better

:06:27. > :06:31.riders. There are more female riders on the road, but it is awareness.

:06:31. > :06:36.is very worrying that it is meant of a certain age who perhaps have money

:06:36. > :06:43.to go and buy a certain bike and don't know how to handle it. That

:06:43. > :06:49.does happen. We ask everybody riding a motorcycle to be aware of what you

:06:49. > :06:52.were riding and your own mortality. I wanted to show you this. It is age

:06:52. > :06:58.right and make from Doncaster has written it to Helmsley. When you

:06:58. > :07:03.aware of these problems? IM, and there are idiots bikers like there

:07:03. > :07:08.are idiot car drivers, but I have seven lights on the front of this

:07:08. > :07:13.and people still pull out on me. Every time they out, I have to break

:07:13. > :07:19.for a car driver. Thank you all very much. If you are on your bike, stay

:07:19. > :07:22.safe. Next, police are increasingly

:07:22. > :07:27.concerned about a 13-year-old girl who has gone missing from home in

:07:27. > :07:32.Sheffield. Erika Kacicova was last seen on Monday. Tom Engel has the

:07:32. > :07:37.latest. There is a joint operation between

:07:37. > :07:41.South and West Yorkshire Police as they search for 13-year-old Erica.

:07:41. > :07:46.She is described as vulnerable. She was last seen at her home at 4pm in

:07:46. > :07:50.Poole Road in Sheffield. Her whereabouts are a mystery. It is

:07:50. > :07:55.thought she may have travelled to Bradford, possibly with a man and

:07:55. > :07:59.perhaps that man is known to us. There are leads for detectives to

:07:59. > :08:03.follow up. Erica is described as being forfeit 11, of slim build.

:08:03. > :08:11.When she went missing on Monday she was wearing blue jeans, a pink polo

:08:11. > :08:15.type shirt. That picture has been circling to media and also to CCTV

:08:15. > :08:20.operators in the hope she can be traced. If she is watching, the

:08:20. > :08:25.police say it is imperative you talk to your parents or contact another

:08:25. > :08:31.relative. Anyone else with information is urged to contact

:08:31. > :08:37.Crimestoppers. Later, a recipe for success. A Leeds

:08:37. > :08:42.man who has been making food good enough for world see. -- for

:08:42. > :08:45.royalty. Campaigners hoping to stop a waste

:08:45. > :08:50.incinerator being built in North Yorkshire have failed in their bid

:08:50. > :08:54.to challenge the decision. They hoped a judge would quash planning

:08:54. > :09:00.permission but he has ruled the process was legal. It means the

:09:00. > :09:05.incinerator can be built at Allerton Park if funding can be found.

:09:05. > :09:09.A male nurse has been suspended from Scarborough Hospital after reports

:09:09. > :09:13.of inappropriate behaviour with a patient. The allegation involves an

:09:14. > :09:17.80-year-old female patient. Police said the investigation is in its

:09:17. > :09:22.early stages and no arrests have been made. Safeguarding measures

:09:22. > :09:26.have been put in place. Workers at Ardagh Glass sites in

:09:26. > :09:32.Yorkshire have suspended strike action while they consider a new pay

:09:32. > :09:35.offer. The company runs factories in Barnsley, Doncaster and Knottingley.

:09:35. > :09:41.Members of the Unite and the GMB union 's had voted to strike today

:09:41. > :09:44.but the company has now offered a pay rise of 5.5% over the next two

:09:44. > :09:49.years. Patients in Yorkshire will benefit

:09:49. > :09:53.from today's News of the government is spending more than 10 million on

:09:53. > :09:56.health research locally. Some money will go towards rolling out a

:09:56. > :10:01.special smart shoe for stroke victims which was developed in

:10:01. > :10:06.Sheffield. It is an intelligent shoe, or more

:10:06. > :10:11.accurately in Seoul, which can fit inside any item of footwear. It

:10:11. > :10:17.works by sending electronic signals to a computer, enabling doctors,

:10:18. > :10:22.physiotherapists and stroke patients to see how they are progressing. Bob

:10:22. > :10:25.Barwell had a stroke five years ago and is one of only a handful of

:10:26. > :10:31.people who has been asked to trial the new technology, thought to be

:10:31. > :10:39.the first of its kind anywhere. Today, he is having it fitted by his

:10:39. > :10:45.physiotherapist for the first time. There are 6 on each soul, and tell

:10:45. > :10:50.you where the pressure is, when I am walking, and tell you whether I am

:10:50. > :10:59.putting enough weight on my heel, and how often I am doing it. It will

:10:59. > :11:03.also give a running report of how I am improving. This shoe is being the

:11:03. > :11:07.built by researchers at Sheffield teaching hospitals and universities.

:11:07. > :11:12.It gives the patient feedback on how well be walking, how balanced they

:11:12. > :11:16.are and how they are placing their foot the floor. We chose those

:11:16. > :11:22.parameters as they are linked to falls, and the potential for a

:11:22. > :11:26.stroke person to fall in the house. Stroke research is one of a number

:11:26. > :11:32.of areas that will benefit from today's announcement, and it means

:11:32. > :11:36.the issue could soon be available to more stroke patients. Money will

:11:37. > :11:43.also go towards regional research into diabetes, mental health and

:11:43. > :11:47.chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

:11:47. > :11:53.More than 300,000 people across Yorkshire have been celebrating the

:11:53. > :11:57.Muslim festival of Eid. It marks the end of Ramadan, the 30 day holy

:11:57. > :12:03.period when Muslims fast during daylight hours, but each also has a

:12:03. > :12:10.big effect on Yorkshire's economy. This time last, sales at Meadowhall

:12:10. > :12:18.were up 5% as Muslims what new clothes and gets to celebrate. This

:12:18. > :12:21.is Eid party in South Yorkshire. I am here with the jazzy family in

:12:21. > :12:25.Tinsley on the edge of Sheffield, who were celebrating the Eid

:12:25. > :12:31.festival. It is a hugely important time of year or the Muslim community

:12:31. > :12:35.but it is very important because it is a great occasion for the family

:12:35. > :12:40.to get together and you can visit friends and other relatives, but

:12:40. > :12:50.also for Muslims, it is important to give to charity at this time of

:12:50. > :12:51.

:12:51. > :12:57.year. Around 3000 Muslims gathered at Sheffield's Islamic Centre and

:12:57. > :13:02.mask this morning to celebrate the end of Ramadan, a month-long fast

:13:02. > :13:12.that ends with a day of celebration known as Eid. The day begins with a

:13:12. > :13:24.

:13:24. > :13:27.of the Islamic Unity celebrated their Eid yesterday. It is because

:13:27. > :13:33.of different translations of the lunar calendar but it still brings

:13:33. > :13:40.the committee together. People are introduced, delighted and elated,

:13:40. > :13:43.and similarly we are because we fast for 30 days and it is quite a joyful

:13:43. > :13:52.occasion for all Muslims throughout the world, whether they celebrated

:13:52. > :13:55.yesterday or today was that it truly is a re-marker will occasion.

:13:55. > :14:02.rather rum, shoppers prepared for Eid pay weekly bazaar, coming feast

:14:02. > :14:07.for their families, and at Meadowhall, sales increased by over

:14:07. > :14:13.5.5% in the week before Eid last year, and were up by over 3% on the

:14:13. > :14:18.day of Eid itself. The celebrations provide an annual boost for business

:14:18. > :14:28.across the region as Muslims buy new clothes to wear on the day, also

:14:28. > :14:32.

:14:32. > :14:37.jewellery and gifts for families and to young patients at the children's

:14:37. > :14:41.heart surgery unit at Leeds General Infirmary. Charity is a big part of

:14:41. > :14:50.Ramadan and Eid, and it is time to offer help and support to those less

:14:50. > :14:57.fortunate. Charity is an integral part of Islam, and the community

:14:57. > :15:00.tends to donate to countries they originate from, but we wanted to put

:15:00. > :15:05.something back into the community. Muslims return for Friday prayer

:15:05. > :15:12.today, and Eid celebrations will continue into the evening and

:15:12. > :15:17.throughout the weekend. Mubarak! I am joined by some younger

:15:17. > :15:22.members of the family. What is important about Eid for you? It is a

:15:22. > :15:29.really special day for me. We get presence and I just hope that love

:15:30. > :15:33.and joy spread amongst us all. During Ramadan, we are occupied. It

:15:33. > :15:39.is time we got together as a family and thought about those less

:15:39. > :15:44.fortunate. You have some lovely looking food. We have food, starting

:15:44. > :15:49.from rota chicken, three different types of Currys, rices and deserts.

:15:50. > :15:54.Would you like some? I would love some, but I think you all have

:15:54. > :16:02.something to say. We would all like to wish you a very happy...

:16:02. > :16:09.Mubarak! And back to you. Thank you to everyone who made me

:16:09. > :16:14.feel welcome on Sunday at a pre-Ramadan celebration. Before

:16:14. > :16:20.7pm, a musical mystery. Why this special set of crutches is bringing

:16:20. > :16:30.a smile and a song to the people of Morrison. And the Yorkshire

:16:30. > :16:34.

:16:34. > :16:38.schoolboys taking their tae kwon do job to start between school runs is

:16:38. > :16:43.a nightmare. One enterprising parent from Leeds has created rooming

:16:44. > :16:50.business from her kitchen. Philippa Quayle's marshmallow empire has

:16:50. > :16:54.taken off so much she is now looking to expand. Among her fans are Chris

:16:54. > :16:57.Evans and new royal parents William and Kate.

:16:57. > :17:02.They bear little resemblance to the gooey parts you may have roasted

:17:02. > :17:06.over a barbecue, and that is quite Philippa Quayle's marshmallows have

:17:06. > :17:11.created such a stir, not bad for a chance sighting on an American

:17:11. > :17:16.cooking programme. I made some disasters in the beginning that you

:17:16. > :17:19.couldn't call marshmallows, but eventually I got there and they

:17:19. > :17:22.started producing something that looked like marshmallow and then

:17:22. > :17:27.phoned you could add all sorts of interesting ingredients to make it

:17:27. > :17:32.taste litters. Kitchen table production has really taken off in

:17:32. > :17:38.the wake of the recession, with many mums finding it a prodigal solution

:17:38. > :17:42.to juggling childcare and career. At this leads to, they are a big

:17:42. > :17:47.supporter of new ideas and they know it may be convenient but is not an

:17:47. > :17:51.easy option. It takes a lot of the termination. It is hard when you are

:17:51. > :17:55.at home with a good idea to make that come alive, and if we can help

:17:55. > :18:01.them by giving them an initial route to market, that is fantastic for

:18:01. > :18:07.them because it gets the product to customers, and it is fantastic for

:18:07. > :18:11.us because we have the next great product. Few products can vote the

:18:11. > :18:15.kind of celebrity fans that have taken to the squares, even a certain

:18:15. > :18:22.new mum and dad are known to have top ten after Kate's brother took a

:18:22. > :18:25.packet when he visited his nephew. got an e-mail back from him saying

:18:25. > :18:30.thank you for the marshmallows and they were very much appreciated and

:18:30. > :18:35.they all enjoyed them over the weekend, so that was great. I can't

:18:35. > :18:40.quite see by Royal appointment yet. She can see she is a cool star

:18:40. > :18:45.winger at this year's food Oscars, not bad for her first 12 months as a

:18:45. > :18:51.marshmallow mogul. Thanks to our editor for eating all

:18:51. > :18:55.the studio marshmallows. Let's go to sport.

:18:55. > :19:00.I have a rumbling stomach after the Eid report, but let's talk about tae

:19:01. > :19:07.kwon do come Sarah Stevenson, Britain's first ever world tae kwon

:19:07. > :19:09.do champion, Olympic Barnes medallist at Beijing, athletes' both

:19:09. > :19:12.reader and London 2012. She announced her retirement this year

:19:12. > :19:18.but are there any young up-and-comers who might follow in

:19:18. > :19:22.her footsteps? There are now two young Yorkshireman who are tuning up

:19:22. > :19:27.for the European Championships in Portugal next month, and Sarah's

:19:27. > :19:31.achievements are never far from their minds. Last time we saw

:19:31. > :19:37.Huddersfield's ten lead on our screens, he was a young hopeful.

:19:37. > :19:44.Maybe we thought, for that 2016 Rio Olympics. One year and several

:19:44. > :19:49.haircuts later, 14-year-old Tim's selection for the European

:19:49. > :19:53.Championship squad has shown how right we were. I train hard and I'm

:19:53. > :20:01.willing to improve. I have the potential to win medals. There are

:20:01. > :20:05.lots of early starts, trips abroad, but it is all worth it. Yorkshire's

:20:05. > :20:09.versioning tae kwon do culture has produced another Team GB member,

:20:09. > :20:16.Jacob borrowed from Bradford, who is in the Europe and squad for Portugal

:20:16. > :20:24.as well. Both will soon be off to Spain for a treading can to prepare.

:20:24. > :20:27.It is 100% all the time, now I've been coming here it's a lot more

:20:27. > :20:31.hours, but I'm getting used to work and it's intense, so it a lot of

:20:31. > :20:36.work but I love it. The club is getting involved with that Team GB

:20:36. > :20:40.tae kwon do Academy and getting educated along the lines of what we

:20:40. > :20:44.teach, so by the time they come into these training sessions, they

:20:44. > :20:49.already have these basic skills, modern tae kwon do techniques that

:20:49. > :20:55.are required to technique and be successful at a high level. Normally

:20:56. > :21:00.we might regret Sarah Stevenson's decision to retire from competition,

:21:00. > :21:10.until you realise how many she has inspired. For Tim and Jacob, this is

:21:10. > :21:15.

:21:15. > :21:21.threatening to deliver his major title before the season has

:21:21. > :21:24.finished. On day two at the US PGA, Westwood has hovered around the top

:21:24. > :21:29.of the leaderboard until a fairly disastrous last few holes on his

:21:29. > :21:34.second round left him one under. Sheffield's Danny Willett looks like

:21:35. > :21:39.missing the cut at the moment, three under par. In Super League, I wonder

:21:40. > :21:45.if tonight's clash between Wigan and Huddersfield is a dress rehearsal

:21:45. > :21:48.for this year's grand final. If the Giants win tonight, it could go a

:21:48. > :21:53.long way towards dictating who finishes top of the latter before

:21:53. > :22:00.the play-offs, and we have coverage of that match tonight on BBC Radio

:22:00. > :22:04.Leeds. We will bring you updates on the Leeds Rhinos match at Salford,

:22:04. > :22:11.and an Look North, there will be the pick of the Giants action on our

:22:11. > :22:16.late bulletin at 10:25pm. Finally, these are a pretty familiar

:22:16. > :22:21.sight if you have ever injured your knee or any part of your leg. The

:22:21. > :22:27.chances are you will have been given a crutch, or an NHS walking stick.

:22:27. > :22:33.But some of these are not quite what they seem. In Marsden, they have a

:22:33. > :22:37.rather musical use for them. When it comes to musical

:22:38. > :22:47.instruments, there are no limits to man's imagination. This is a

:22:47. > :22:57.didgeridoo. This is a contrabass cap clarinet and this is the National

:22:57. > :23:04.Health Service crutch. So the didgeridoo... Didgeridoo and. The

:23:04. > :23:14.big -- the big clarinet thing, not bad. The National Health Service

:23:14. > :23:18.

:23:18. > :23:25.not a flute in disguise, it really is a walking stick. If you run out

:23:25. > :23:30.of crutches, I have plenty. If you were a flute player as well, these

:23:30. > :23:34.would be perfect. I was suspicious when the holes were different sizes,

:23:34. > :23:40.so I wonder if you could include a trombone in it by moving the stick

:23:40. > :23:46.up and down. Clearly the thing to do is take a stick for a walk. It does

:23:46. > :23:52.turn heads. For Simeon, it was a natural step in his musical career.

:23:52. > :23:55.I saw this walking stick and it instantly looked like a flute. It

:23:55. > :24:01.looks like the holes are almost in the right place, so it was just

:24:01. > :24:06.finding someone who could develop that instrument. No problem, we can

:24:06. > :24:14.do that, make a flute. What do you have to do to turn the crotch into a

:24:14. > :24:22.flute? You have each Oopsie you essentially have a flute. You can

:24:22. > :24:32.make it play a June, and Simeon can't play anything. Simeon can't

:24:32. > :24:34.

:24:34. > :24:44.play anything. He is, after all, a serious musician, just not that.

:24:44. > :24:48.

:24:48. > :24:58.Imagining James Galway at the Royal the dressing room. I'll be your

:24:58. > :25:02.

:25:02. > :25:07.support act. Like you're having a kiss. Forget that. It's a good job

:25:07. > :25:09.kiss. Forget that. It's a good job here such a I don't know what to say

:25:09. > :25:11.here such a I don't know what to say after that! Let's look at some

:25:11. > :25:11.after that! Let's look at some The final

:25:11. > :25:11.final preparations

:25:11. > :25:11.final preparations for

:25:11. > :25:16.final preparations for the

:25:16. > :25:19.final preparations for the Halifax show which is on tomorrow. I hope

:25:19. > :25:25.there will be sunshine tomorrow, and that will stay dry. The second

:25:25. > :25:30.picture, sunshine in the trees, this was taken near Hebden Bridge, and

:25:30. > :25:38.the third picture at Bolton Ali was taken today. Keep your pictures

:25:38. > :25:43.taken today. Keep your pictures coming in. The prospects for the

:25:43. > :25:48.weekend, a mixed bag. Saturday is likely to stay dry, there will be

:25:48. > :25:52.more showers on Sunday. Variable amount of cloud of the could be some

:25:52. > :25:56.pleasant spells of sunshine. It could be less breezy than today

:25:56. > :26:00.because it has been blustery out there. Had a miniature front on

:26:00. > :26:04.Saturday night into Sunday, but otherwise just the odd shower to

:26:04. > :26:08.contend with, most of them on Sunday. You can see on the satellite

:26:08. > :26:14.picture, the cloud is broken over the Pennines at the moment, but it

:26:14. > :26:18.looks like a breezy one. Spells of sunshine and then long clear spells

:26:19. > :26:23.to this evening. The second half of the night has more cloud filtering

:26:23. > :26:25.up into parts of south Yorkshire, where temperatures will be highest,

:26:25. > :26:35.because in the Dales it looks like a cool night, temperatures dropping

:26:35. > :26:41.into sick -- single figures. The sun will rise in the morning at 5:35am,

:26:41. > :26:45.your next high water in Bridlington will be at 7:09am. Tomorrow morning,

:26:45. > :26:50.north Yorkshire gets off to the best start, this cloud will continue to

:26:50. > :26:55.falter north to the day, so variable cloud, but there will be a lot of

:26:55. > :26:58.bright weather around and dry weather and will be some spells of

:26:58. > :27:03.sunshine, just the odd shower to contend with but most places will

:27:03. > :27:10.stay dry. Temperatures may be a little lower than today, 18 degrees

:27:10. > :27:14.on the coast, 20 degrees at the top of the Vale of York, so the king

:27:14. > :27:20.further ahead, on Sunday there will be a scattering of showers, a breezy

:27:20. > :27:28.day. On Monday, a similar theme, sunny spells, a few showers and it

:27:29. > :27:34.will be breezy. Let me have a go! think we have a duff one there.
