:00:00. > :00:09.Marmaris On Look North tonight: Victims of the shootings in Turkey

:00:09. > :00:12.are comforted by relatives, as the family of the man accused of Anne

:00:12. > :00:16.Bury's killing claim he'd been in a relationship with her for a number

:00:16. > :00:22.of years. Also tonight, pursuing justice, 20 years on. A woman from

:00:22. > :00:27.Bradford heads back to America to stop the early release of her

:00:27. > :00:30.partner's killer. And we're in Harrogate for the annual Autumn

:00:30. > :00:41.Flower Show — a must for gardeners of all varieties. Indeed. It was a

:00:41. > :00:43.lovely afternoon in Harrogate. For the next few days, join me for the

:00:43. > :01:04.details in 15 minutes. First, it was a story that made

:01:04. > :01:07.headlines on both sides of the Atlantic back in 1993. A couple from

:01:07. > :01:16.Bradford shot in their car in a secluded highway rest area in

:01:16. > :01:24.Florida. Margaret Jagger was injured. Her partner Gary Colley

:01:24. > :01:26.shot dead. Now, by a cruel coincidence, Margaret will find

:01:27. > :01:30.herself back in court tomorrow, confronting one of the gunmen on the

:01:30. > :01:33.20th anniversary of the killing. She'll give evidence to try to stop

:01:33. > :01:36.the early release of Aundra Akins from prison. Our Crime Correspondent

:01:36. > :01:38.John Cundy has this exclusive report. Tomorrow, Margaret Jagger

:01:38. > :01:41.will deliver perfect and impact statement in court. She will say why

:01:41. > :01:43.she thinks Aundra Akins, who fired the fatal bullet which killed her

:01:43. > :01:47.partner, Gary Colley, should have his 27 year life sentence tariff

:01:47. > :01:52.extended. It was a crime that shocked even the American public,

:01:52. > :01:56.hardened by violent gun crime in their communities. It had been a

:01:56. > :02:02.botched robbery. In a lonely lay—by, Aundra Akins had broached

:02:02. > :02:08.the parked car of Gary Colley, demanding money and began firing

:02:08. > :02:13.guns into the car. One of the bullets hit Gary Colley. Margaret

:02:13. > :02:18.Jagger was left cradling Gary Colley as he bled to death in her arms. The

:02:18. > :02:23.start of Margaret Jagger's dreadful nightmare. Even as she prepared to

:02:23. > :02:29.confront the killers in court, she said she could not find it in her

:02:29. > :02:34.heart, to hate them. As the months and years went by, time and again,

:02:34. > :02:50.Margaret Jagger returned to the States to give evidence during

:02:50. > :02:53.several court trials. Margaret said that many locals around Tallahassee

:02:53. > :02:58.had told her of their disgust at what happened and there was a

:02:58. > :03:04.tearful apology at one stage to Margaret Jagger from the mother of

:03:04. > :03:16.Aundra Akins, for the murderous actions of her son. If there was

:03:16. > :03:25.anything I could do, I would do it. Please, find it in your heart to

:03:25. > :03:32.forgive. Eventually, Aundra Akins and his accomplice where given life

:03:32. > :03:37.sentence for the of Gary Colley and the attempted murder of Margaret

:03:37. > :03:39.Jagger. Now, he is nearing parole for being a model prisoner and

:03:40. > :03:46.tomorrow, Margaret Jagger will be back in court, as lawyers seek to

:03:46. > :03:55.have his 27 year life sentence tariff extended. She's doing fine.

:03:55. > :04:03.She is trying to move on with life. She needs to testify. And tonight,

:04:03. > :04:07.Margaret Jagger is making final preparations for that court

:04:07. > :04:13.hearing, to once more face, across a courtroom, the man who murdered Gary

:04:13. > :04:24.Colley exactly 20 years ago, and almost took her life.

:04:24. > :04:29.been speaking to Margaret. What has she been saying? She is trying to

:04:29. > :04:33.keep a low profile. She is extremely nervous about appearing in court.

:04:33. > :04:37.This will be the fifth or sixth time she has had to face the killer of

:04:37. > :04:42.killers of Gary Colley, her long—time partner, in an American

:04:42. > :04:48.court, and it is a dramatic moment for her. 20 years on, you might

:04:48. > :04:55.think she had left it all behind but she is there to say that the impact

:04:55. > :05:00.on her has never left the, and she is trying to get the sentence of

:05:00. > :05:07.Aundra Akins extended. He is coming up for parole shortly. What kind of

:05:07. > :05:13.formality will it be tomorrow? What can we expect? She will give a

:05:14. > :05:18.victim impact statement. The prosecuting lawyers will have their

:05:18. > :05:22.say. They will say why this man should have his sentence extended.

:05:22. > :05:29.The last time she saw this man in court, he was a boy of 14, now he's

:05:29. > :05:34.a grown man, at 34. And everything goes back to this appalling moment

:05:34. > :05:38.when Gary Colley was shot dead in front of her, when she was cradling

:05:39. > :05:51.him, as he died. It is bound to be automatic occasion for her. —— bound

:05:51. > :05:59.to be a traumatic occasion. Lots more to come in tonight's programme:

:05:59. > :06:02.Tanya's searching out our sports stars of the future. Paralympian

:06:02. > :06:05.Hannah Cockcroft was discovered at a School Games event in the past.

:06:05. > :06:20.Today could well have revealed some more. Next, we hear from the parents

:06:20. > :06:23.of the man accused of shooting a woman from North Yorkshire at her

:06:23. > :06:26.holiday villa in Turkey. They say their son loved Anne Bury, and that

:06:26. > :06:31.he'd been in a relationship with her for the past six years. But lately

:06:31. > :06:35.they'd argued over money. Tonight, Anne's son Alex remains in hospital

:06:36. > :06:41.and the family have denied that she and the gardener Veli Acar were

:06:41. > :06:52.together. We will have more on that story in our late Latin. —— our late

:06:52. > :06:55.bulletin. The jury in the trial of the Sheffield Wednesday footballer

:06:55. > :06:59.Gary Madine has been sent home for the night, after failing to reach a

:06:59. > :07:02.verdict today. The centre—forward is accused of two unprovoked assaults

:07:02. > :07:05.in two Sheffield nightclubs within five weeks of each other. Mr Madine

:07:05. > :07:08.denies charges of causing grievous bodily harm in one case and causing

:07:08. > :07:11.grievous bodily harm with intent on a second charge. The jury will

:07:11. > :07:14.continue deliberating tomorrow. A convicted killer who absconded from

:07:14. > :07:18.jail during a work licence has been found. Shakiel Shazad was serving 18

:07:18. > :07:21.years for his part in an arson attack in Huddersfield in 2002.

:07:21. > :07:24.Eight members of the same family died in the fire at their home in

:07:24. > :07:28.Birkby. West Yorkshire Police had issued an appeal for help to find

:07:28. > :07:33.Shazad. But a few hours ago, he was discovered

:07:33. > :07:35.road in the West Midlands. The man in charge of the investigation into

:07:35. > :07:38.the Hillsborough disaster says he's looking into whether any crime such

:07:38. > :07:41.as manslaughter was committed on the day. Jon Stoddart says that South

:07:41. > :07:43.Yorkshire Police, Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Sheffield

:07:43. > :07:46.City Council and the Football Association could all face charges

:07:46. > :07:48.of manslaughter through gross negligence. His comments followed a

:07:48. > :07:52.meeting of families yesterday when some claimed the inquiry was taking

:07:52. > :08:03.too long. But those investigating say it's a lengthy process. We have

:08:03. > :08:08.several thousand documents, and events from 24 years ago, but the

:08:08. > :08:19.investigation goes back to 1981, almost through to the present day.

:08:19. > :08:27.We can look at compelling evidence that will enable us to take a fresh

:08:27. > :08:29.look at the prosecutions. The Bradford—based supermarket Morrisons

:08:29. > :08:32.has announced another fall in profits. There's been a 10% drop for

:08:32. > :08:35.the first half of this year. Business experts say its late entry

:08:36. > :08:38.into online shopping could be to blame. Morrisons is Britain's fourth

:08:38. > :08:43.largest supermarket, behind Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys. The creator of

:08:43. > :08:54.the After Eight mint, Brian Sollitt, has died. He was 74. During a

:08:54. > :08:56.50—year career in York, the confectioner was most proud of his

:08:56. > :08:59.after—dinner mint, despite being responsible for many other products.

:08:59. > :09:03.Mr Sollitt's been described by Nestle as a "true craftsman", who

:09:03. > :09:06.had a huge impact on the British chocolate industry. The family have

:09:06. > :09:08.just announced his death, which happened in July. Sheffield band the

:09:08. > :09:11.Arctic Monkeys have received their third Mercury Music Prize

:09:11. > :09:20.nomination, and their latest album is already heading to the number one

:09:20. > :09:23.spot. The album, A.M, was released on Monday and is currently

:09:23. > :09:27.outselling the rest of the top 20 put together! And claiming the

:09:27. > :09:31.number one spot this weekend will see them become the first band on an

:09:31. > :09:44.independent label to have five consecutive number one albums. The

:09:44. > :09:48.annual School Games got under way today at the Don Valley Stadium in

:09:48. > :09:53.Sheffield — the last major athletics event to be held there before it

:09:53. > :09:56.closes. I remember going back to the launch of the Don Valley Stadium, Ed

:09:56. > :10:16.was the world student games a few years ago. The Universiad. The

:10:16. > :10:19.School Games is a multi—sport event. In fact it was here that Paralympian

:10:19. > :10:22.Hannah Cockcroft was first identified a few years back. Tanya

:10:22. > :10:26.Arnold is there for us now. The stage is set for this multisport

:10:26. > :10:30.event, which is quite a rarity for an athlete to take part in, and it

:10:30. > :10:36.is considered important if they are going to go on to the Olympics and

:10:36. > :10:37.Paralympics. A few lucky athletes also got to meet a couple of

:10:37. > :10:48.superstars. The Don Valley Stadium, or set up for this final national

:10:48. > :10:54.event before it closes. There today to give advice to the Atlas

:10:54. > :10:59.performing were the Paralympic gold medallist, Hannah Cockroft and

:10:59. > :11:06.Johnny Peacock. Hannah Cockroft was discovered at these games in 2007.

:11:06. > :11:09.This is the only opportunity that you are going to get for a

:11:09. > :11:13.multisport event like the Paralympics. It gave me a lot of

:11:13. > :11:17.experience of what it was going to be like. It is an important event.

:11:17. > :11:23.It will give them so many opportunities he's to get out there

:11:23. > :11:28.and to show what they can do. Because it is my home ground it is

:11:28. > :11:35.like going from the Olympic Stadium to your home track. All of my family

:11:35. > :11:40.and friends are coming down and staying half a mile from where I

:11:40. > :11:46.live. They got the Tram in today. Sheffield is such a great sporting

:11:46. > :11:49.city. To have it here is special. Sheffield is ideal for the school

:11:50. > :11:53.games because of the facilities it has right across the city. The

:11:53. > :11:59.volleyball court under way at the Institute of sport. But with the Don

:11:59. > :12:05.Valley Stadium closing, it could be the last such event. It could not be

:12:05. > :12:13.in Sheffield in future because of this facility going, which is very

:12:13. > :12:14.sad. And again, if you ask any athlete or coach or spectators who

:12:14. > :12:23.come down here and train, losing a major facility, not just

:12:23. > :12:30.for Sheffield but for the UK, really. A lot of investment is

:12:30. > :12:36.needed in Whitburn Road if it is to come up to standard to host major

:12:36. > :12:41.athletics events. I am joined by the scent and give state for culture,

:12:41. > :12:46.media and sport, Maria Miller. I am guessing you did not envisage the

:12:46. > :12:53.legacy of the Olympics being the closure of venues like the Don

:12:53. > :12:57.Valley Stadium. The school games are important part of the legacy and it

:12:57. > :12:59.is inspiring to talk to the young people I have met here from

:13:00. > :13:04.England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, getting into the

:13:04. > :13:11.games because of inspiration coming out of last year. But from athletes

:13:11. > :13:13.in this city, it is an iconic structure that this closing, along

:13:13. > :13:20.with leisure centres and swimming pools. The Don Valley Stadium has an

:13:20. > :13:24.important place in the hearts of people in this area. I am sure that

:13:24. > :13:28.it was a tough decision from the City Council to close it. I am very

:13:28. > :13:31.pleased to see the investment that is being promised into Woodburn

:13:31. > :13:35.Road, and I think that would be an important statement for how

:13:35. > :13:41.important athletics still is in the city of Sheffield. Increasingly, it

:13:41. > :13:45.is difficult to fund facilities. Swimming pools take a lot of money

:13:45. > :13:48.to run. You think that the Government has to rethink this, that

:13:48. > :13:53.councils can no longer afford to do it? Good councils investing sports

:13:54. > :13:59.as facilities because they know how important they are for local first

:13:59. > :14:02.—— local communities. We are having to make tough decisions in difficult

:14:02. > :14:07.economic times, but cities like Sheffield have continued to invest

:14:07. > :14:11.in good facilities and the school games here today show that young

:14:11. > :14:13.people are coming through and we have a programme investing in

:14:13. > :14:17.grassroots sports activities up and down the country, showing that sport

:14:17. > :14:21.has never been stronger in this country, and I hope that one of the

:14:21. > :14:26.biggest legacy is coming out of last year through these games is

:14:26. > :14:31.continued participation by young people in sports, whatever they

:14:31. > :14:36.choose, for life. Jake, give us an idea of what is in store, and what

:14:36. > :14:41.is your role? It is going to be a fantastic night. We have been here

:14:41. > :14:45.watching the rehearsals. Although the act are young and local, and

:14:45. > :14:51.they are all fantastic. It is going to be a great night. You have had

:14:51. > :14:56.some training in the run—up to this as well? Yes, I was talking to a BBC

:14:56. > :15:03.commentator who has been giving us some tips and couple of weeks ago I

:15:03. > :15:12.was in London talking to Jonathan Edwards. He gave us some do's and

:15:12. > :15:16.don'ts. I could probably do with getting the list from you at some

:15:16. > :15:29.point. We are now promising a spectacular opening ceremony. Coming

:15:29. > :15:35.up before 7pm: We like to think we've got an eye for talent. So

:15:35. > :15:38.we've been taking to this young woman who could be a strong

:15:38. > :15:46.contender come the Olympics in Toyko. And join me at the Harrogate

:15:46. > :15:56.Autumn flower show for some busting blooms and enormous onions. Let's

:15:56. > :16:09.get back to that story from Turkey, the shooting of Anne Bury. Tears

:16:09. > :16:15.from the family of the man accused of murdering Anne Bury. Outside

:16:15. > :16:21.their home on the edge of town, his mother told me that he is not a

:16:21. > :16:24.violent man. My child was a very good child and we love him very

:16:24. > :16:32.much, but we do not know what happened. We love them very much and

:16:32. > :16:35.now we are feeling very sad. This is where he is alleged to have come

:16:35. > :16:40.with a shotgun, going through the house, shooting dead Anne Bury and

:16:40. > :16:43.injuring her mother and son. It is thought to be an act of revenge by

:16:43. > :16:49.Veli Acar after he had been questioned by police following

:16:49. > :16:54.complaints made by the family that he had made threats against them.

:16:54. > :16:58.The police investigation work appears to be over here at the

:16:58. > :17:03.family's Villa. You can see there are enjoying a birthday party but

:17:03. > :17:10.now there is police crime scene tape and medical equipment

:17:10. > :17:13.still trying to work out exactly what was behind this attack, but

:17:13. > :17:21.they face tough questions about their role in this attack, too. We

:17:21. > :17:25.went to ask why they did not take warnings from the family seriously,

:17:25. > :17:30.and why Veli Acar was released. But filming official buildings is not

:17:30. > :17:33.allowed in Turkey. We were welcomed in and they offered us tea, but they

:17:33. > :17:39.would not answer any questions. Their main suspect is still being

:17:39. > :17:44.held. The family of Veli Acar claim that he was close to Anne Bury. Can

:17:44. > :17:51.I ask you what was the relationship between Anne Bury and Veli Acar? You

:17:52. > :17:58.must see their pictures that they have framed. It is two people in

:17:58. > :18:03.love. He said that they had been together for six years, effectively

:18:03. > :18:06.as a married couple. He was in love with her, and he loved her very

:18:06. > :18:16.much. They enjoyed a healthy life together. They were very happy. We

:18:16. > :18:22.are very confused now. The family of Anne Bury deny any relationship, but

:18:22. > :18:28.both sets of relatives seem to agree that it was a row about this villa,

:18:28. > :18:35.and about money, that escalated to such a violent conclusion. We will

:18:35. > :18:43.update you on that at 10:25pm tonight.

:18:44. > :18:46.United manager Brian McDermott has moved quickly to rule himself out of

:18:46. > :18:50.the Republic of Ireland job. McDermott joined the Elland Road

:18:50. > :18:54.club in April and has seen his side lose just once this season. He said

:18:54. > :18:57.this morning that he would like to manage Ireland in the future, but

:18:57. > :19:01.for now is committed to staying at Leeds. I am here now, and I are

:19:01. > :19:08.committed, 100%. I would regard Leeds United as a very big club, and

:19:08. > :19:16.very big clubs can spend very big money. We cannot do that, we cannot

:19:16. > :19:26.spend big money, but we can find a way to make it successful. Cricket

:19:26. > :19:29.now and Yorkshire are getting on top in their vital County Championship

:19:29. > :19:33.match at Hove. After bowling Sussex out for 292, Yorkshire made their

:19:33. > :19:40.way to 246 for four at close of play. Adam Lyth fell just short of

:19:40. > :19:43.his century andnew signing Kane Williamson is 80 not out. Yorkshire

:19:44. > :19:48.are currently second in the table behind Durham, but a win could see

:19:48. > :19:50.them regain top spot. In the other big game between Derbyshire and

:19:50. > :19:56.Durham, Durham are fighting back in that game. Huddersfield Giants get

:19:56. > :19:59.the Super League play—offs under way against Wigan at the John Smith's

:19:59. > :20:03.Stadium tonight. Earlier this month, the Giants got their hands on

:20:03. > :20:07.silverware for finishing top of the table. But they're now just two wins

:20:07. > :20:13.away from the Grand Final and from a shot at becoming Super League

:20:13. > :20:16.champions. And don't forget to join me at 10:25pm tonight for news of

:20:16. > :20:23.how the Giants got on in that playoff game, plus some of the key

:20:23. > :20:30.action. We found out last weekend that the city of Tokyo will host the

:20:30. > :20:33.2020 Olympic Games. So already, we've had our Look North sports team

:20:33. > :20:37.out and about across our region, to find an emerging candidate who might

:20:37. > :20:40.end up competing there for us. And we think we've uncovered a real gem

:20:40. > :20:46.— at Mytholmroyd Weighlifting Club. Paul Ogden's been to meet her. I am

:20:46. > :20:49.Rebecca Taylor, I am 14 years old, I am the European champion with three

:20:49. > :20:53.gold medals and this is how it happened. At the European youth

:20:53. > :20:59.Championships in Lithuania at the weekend, Rebecca took five medals

:20:59. > :21:03.including three Golds, but rather than sitting around to reflect on

:21:03. > :21:06.the achievements, she delegated that job to her family, and she is

:21:06. > :21:15.already preparing for the next step up. I have the European junior is

:21:15. > :21:23.coming up in ten days. I going to do my best. To try and break my record.

:21:23. > :21:30.I just like competing. I started off as a sprinter at aged ten and got

:21:30. > :21:33.tested at a performance Centre, and a coach noticed me and said I should

:21:33. > :21:40.take up weightlifting, and I have enjoyed it ever since. She has got a

:21:40. > :21:47.bit of work to do. She is growing up, as a young person, physically

:21:47. > :21:55.maturing, so 2022 is the one where we're going be looking at medals.

:21:55. > :22:00.And four—year—old sister Emily has confirmed exclusively to BBC look

:22:00. > :22:10.North, that she wants to be a champ as well. Watch this space! You would

:22:10. > :22:29.not want to cross eyebrow of them, would you? # —— you would not want

:22:29. > :22:33.to cross either of them. One thing we do agree on is that the Harrogate

:22:33. > :22:37.Flower show is the start of autumn. It opens tomorrow and hordes are

:22:37. > :22:40.expected to descend on the exhibits. There's so much to see this year,

:22:40. > :22:43.including how to cook a giant cabbage, wonderful blooms and of

:22:44. > :22:47.course our own Cathy Killick. You might have thought summer was over,

:22:47. > :22:55.but not a bit of it. I have been like a pig in muck today, really

:22:55. > :22:56.enjoying having a good neb about. Here is a selection of my

:22:56. > :23:21.highlights. Whatever you're looking for, you

:23:21. > :23:22.will find it here, from show gardens to beautiful blooms, there is

:23:22. > :23:31.inspiration everywhere. I do think you will get a higher standard

:23:31. > :23:35.in the UK, so we're lucky to have it in Yorkshire. March and April were

:23:35. > :23:39.called, but since then we have had some very good growing weather, so

:23:39. > :23:46.the indications are that we will get some very good displays. The giant

:23:46. > :23:50.vegetables are always a draw, but this year they have got ambitious

:23:50. > :23:55.plans for this enormous cabbage. We're going to set a world record

:23:55. > :24:05.for the number of dishes made from the one cabbage. The flower

:24:05. > :24:08.arrangers have been given the task of making a theme based on

:24:08. > :24:16.television sitcoms. That has got to be last of the summer Wine, and this

:24:16. > :24:23.is, are you being served. Do you remember Miss Brahms? This show

:24:23. > :24:35.garden is made entirely from recycled material. Each time I do

:24:35. > :24:41.it, I get more help, but my husband Brian has been brilliant, and my dad

:24:41. > :24:55.as well. What a pleasure it is to observe what skill can produce.

:24:55. > :25:04.It is not just the plants that are inspiring. This is the inside of

:25:04. > :25:08.of the shades of one of the show gardens. Outside, there was an

:25:08. > :25:14.explosion of gorgeousness. Gates open at 9:30am, then it once through

:25:14. > :25:21.Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is well worth a visit. Although I would

:25:21. > :25:29.say that, wouldn't I? You are a good gardener. I do good yellow

:25:29. > :25:34.courgettes, and beans and peas. Anything that you can eat. Not so

:25:34. > :25:43.interested in the pretty stuff. Let me have a look at some pictures that

:25:43. > :25:50.have come in. That is the Ryburn Valley. And that is a lonely bridge,

:25:50. > :25:53.in York. Keep the pictures coming in. —— that is the millennium

:25:53. > :26:09.Bridge. In the short term, I will try to get

:26:09. > :26:14.tomorrow right, before talking about the next 20 years. It will be messy

:26:15. > :26:17.tomorrow, courtesy of this week weather front that will give us some

:26:17. > :26:27.patchy rain. Saturday looking the best day of the

:26:27. > :26:32.weekend, after a damp start, it will brighten up, but on Sunday, goodness

:26:32. > :26:38.me, wet and windy weather spreading from the West. We have some coming

:26:38. > :26:44.in right now. This cloud is bringing rain to the Pennines. It will move

:26:44. > :26:48.east over the next 24 hours, so all of us will see a wet night. The bulk

:26:49. > :26:52.of the rain out of the way by the early hours of the morning. Then we

:26:52. > :27:03.will have lots of low cloud, missed and drizzle. —— mist.

:27:03. > :27:11.Tomorrow, off to a slow start, cloudy and damp in places. It will

:27:11. > :27:17.brighten up with some decent, dry, bright spells, but always, the risk

:27:17. > :27:21.of a few showers. It could bring bring into southern areas. It will

:27:21. > :27:29.be a bit messy tomorrow. Look at those temperatures, 15 Celsius in

:27:29. > :27:33.Scarborough. Possibly up to 16 or 17 further south. Saturday the better

:27:33. > :27:43.day of the weekend, Sunday is wet and windy. There was a row in our

:27:43. > :27:45.house about whether we can light a fire or not.
