:00:00. > :00:00.That is all from the BBC's news at six, so it is goodbye from

:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to Wednesday's Look North On the

:00:07. > :00:10.programme tonight ` murdered on the last delivery of his last shift. The

:00:11. > :00:18.25`year`old student stabbed to death in Sheffield during his final pizza

:00:19. > :00:23.delivery. I could only imagine the pain his

:00:24. > :00:26.family are feeling hearing this news. He was very close to his

:00:27. > :00:29.family. Also tonight: Develop or demolish ` the two options facing

:00:30. > :00:36.Bradford's iconic Odeon theatre. Campaigners say it can be saved, but

:00:37. > :00:42.at what cost? We like to be first with the news.

:00:43. > :00:50.Things are already here underway for Halloween. We have a spell of wet

:00:51. > :00:54.and Web `` windy weather through the course of this evening. I will be

:00:55. > :01:01.back later in the programme with the details.

:01:02. > :01:06.First tonight to the hunt for the killer of a 25`year`old Sri Lankan

:01:07. > :01:10.student who was stabbed to death on his final shift as a pizza delivery

:01:11. > :01:13.driver. Police say the attack was brutal and shocking.

:01:14. > :01:17.Tavisha Lakindu Peiris was found dead in his car on Sunday night.

:01:18. > :01:21.He'd studied at Sheffield Hallam University and was about to begin

:01:22. > :01:30.his dream job as an IT consultant. Phil Bodmer is in Sheffield for us

:01:31. > :01:37.now, Phil. As you say, Tavisha Lakindu Peiris

:01:38. > :01:42.was described as kind and caring. He was aiming to be a professional IT

:01:43. > :01:50.consultant. Like many young people, he was working part`time as a pizza

:01:51. > :01:53.delivery driver. Sadly, those aspirations and ambitions were cut

:01:54. > :02:00.short on Sunday night in a submerged `` suburban street in Sheffield in a

:02:01. > :02:08.motiveless Lee `` motiveless stabbing attack. From shrill anchor,

:02:09. > :02:18.his life ended in the most brutal way. `` from shrill anchor. He was a

:02:19. > :02:22.part`time delivery boy. Colleagues became concerned after he failed to

:02:23. > :02:28.deliver his last order. He was found unconscious at the core of his

:02:29. > :02:35.Toyota in the parking bay. He had been stabbed a number of times. I

:02:36. > :02:39.could only imagine the pain his family are feeling hearing this

:02:40. > :02:46.news. He was very close to his family and spoke to his mother every

:02:47. > :02:54.single day. I am appealing to the mothers out there. Was it your son

:02:55. > :02:58.Matt came home dishevelled with bloodstained clothing? I am asking

:02:59. > :03:07.anybody out there to think about that. With any crime, there is

:03:08. > :03:10.always somebody, no matter how close to that person, knows what they have

:03:11. > :03:16.gone and done. I don't know whether I am looking for one person or two

:03:17. > :03:18.or three people. The more people that are involved, the more people

:03:19. > :03:24.that know about it. Somebody knows something. Sheffield Hallam

:03:25. > :03:33.University said it was saddened to hear of the death. Today one of his

:03:34. > :03:38.friends spoke about a young man described as hard`working,

:03:39. > :03:45.intelligent and caring. He was a very smart guy, generous guy. Why

:03:46. > :03:50.would somebody hurt him? Same`macro that is the thing. He has never done

:03:51. > :03:58.anything wrong. I don't know who could have done this kind of thing

:03:59. > :04:07.in cold blood. Police Sebi and so may lie within

:04:08. > :04:12.the local community. `` police say. Nobody was available to talk to us

:04:13. > :04:16.from this pizza Company. They did say they were shocked by the death

:04:17. > :04:20.and that player `` prayers go out to colleagues and family. They say the

:04:21. > :04:24.matter is under investigation by police and we are helping with

:04:25. > :04:28.enquiries but can't comment further. Tonight, 50 police officers are

:04:29. > :04:33.working on this case and are urging anyone who may make `` you may have

:04:34. > :04:37.any suspicions, to contact them in a matter of urgency.

:04:38. > :04:41.House prices across Yorkshire have remained pretty static over the past

:04:42. > :04:43.year, according to the latest figures from the Land Registry.

:04:44. > :04:48.Some areas like Barnsley, Kirklees and Leeds have seen the average

:04:49. > :04:51.price of a house drop by up to 3.7%. But in Doncaster, they're really

:04:52. > :04:54.bucking the trend and the price increase there is higher than any

:04:55. > :05:04.other metropolitan district in England. Here's Joe Inwood.

:05:05. > :05:12.Could it be cheaper prices that has caused the big rise? The average

:05:13. > :05:17.price in got Doncaster still goes for ?100,000. A figure across south

:05:18. > :05:22.Yorkshire is a feud thousand more. Compare that to North Yorkshire

:05:23. > :05:28.where you would pay almost 169,000. West Yorkshire, where the average

:05:29. > :05:35.house costs 107,000. Nationally, the figure is just under ?170,000. Those

:05:36. > :05:40.are the prices you would pay but in terms of how fast they are going up,

:05:41. > :05:44.Doncaster beats the lots. It is the English metropolitan district with

:05:45. > :05:53.the biggest rise. 4.1% in the past year. If things keep going the way

:05:54. > :05:57.they have been, showing people around is something that Sandra, who

:05:58. > :06:02.is desperate to sell, will have to be doing a whole lot more. It is on

:06:03. > :06:07.the up. It is fantastic because it means we may get more viewers, more

:06:08. > :06:12.people who are interested in buying, which will relieve a lot of

:06:13. > :06:20.tension and it gives us a chance to go and buy what we want to buy. That

:06:21. > :06:26.sellers optimism is not always found in the region. In rather rum, prices

:06:27. > :06:33.are down. In Barnsley, they are down 2.5%. `` in rather run, prices are

:06:34. > :06:40.down. Why does Doncaster but the trend? It is a combination of a low

:06:41. > :06:49.starting point and high levels of investment. It doesn't take much to

:06:50. > :06:56.get 4.1% increase in market value. With a regeneration scheme around,

:06:57. > :07:00.that brings in people and employment and there is money being brought

:07:01. > :07:05.into this market. For Sandra and her family, they hope that money will

:07:06. > :07:12.soon be coming their way. We have found the perfect place to move to.

:07:13. > :07:16.Without having autism, he is going to have the top floor of his whole

:07:17. > :07:21.flat. It will make him independent living at home so we are there at

:07:22. > :07:26.the time `` all the time. It will make life easier for us all. If the

:07:27. > :07:36.next 12 months are anything like the last, that for sale sign shouldn't

:07:37. > :07:41.be there for too much longer. Joining us from our studio in

:07:42. > :07:50.Nottingham is Miles Shipside from Rightmove. Why is Doncaster Bucking

:07:51. > :07:54.the trend like this? There is increased employment and it creates

:07:55. > :08:00.demand for housing and affordability is good in Doncaster because house

:08:01. > :08:05.prices are lower. Industry has some distribution centres, good transport

:08:06. > :08:08.links, good investment in the area. It is creating demand plus investors

:08:09. > :08:16.are saying goodbye to let returns as well. You don't think this is a

:08:17. > :08:21.blip? House prices are continuing to fall in places like Kirklees,

:08:22. > :08:27.Calderdale, Leeds. Doncaster started sooner because of those factors. I

:08:28. > :08:30.was speaking to an estate agent in Leeds today and they said their

:08:31. > :08:35.starter Home Office on the south side has had the best two months

:08:36. > :08:42.since 2008. Leeds and some other areas are going to start catching

:08:43. > :08:48.Doncaster up. I presume you were able to measure it. Is it down to

:08:49. > :08:54.investors or first`time buyers? Who are we talking about? With the

:08:55. > :09:00.mortgage market boring and more mortgages becoming available and the

:09:01. > :09:06.start of the help to buy scheme, Merle `` more first`time buyers are

:09:07. > :09:11.coming into the market. There is some good demand there. You are

:09:12. > :09:17.sounding very optimistic. Does this look like a recovery in the housing

:09:18. > :09:21.market? It is nothing like the South and in London that it has been a

:09:22. > :09:25.long time coming and that pent up demand for housing and the cost of

:09:26. > :09:30.renting is high. Buying a property if you can get together that 5%

:09:31. > :09:34.deposit will help more people get onto the housing ladder. Thank you

:09:35. > :09:37.very much. Later on Look North: Scaling new

:09:38. > :09:38.heights ` North Yorkshire mountaineer Alan Hinkes adds writing

:09:39. > :09:48.a book to his list of conquests. Police investigating an incident of

:09:49. > :09:54.a large`scale disorder in Sheffield have released CCTV images of six

:09:55. > :09:57.people they want to speak to. A number of men and teenagers were

:09:58. > :10:01.involved in the altercation which happened outside a pub in Leopold

:10:02. > :10:06.Street at about 7pm on Saturday the 24th August. Several people were

:10:07. > :10:11.assaulted and furniture at the pub was damaged. Anyone who recognises

:10:12. > :10:14.any of the people is asked to call South Yorkshire Police.

:10:15. > :10:18.A scheme to deter bicycle thefts in York has led to a 39% drop in the

:10:19. > :10:22.crime over the past five years, according to the council. As part of

:10:23. > :10:28.Operation Spoke, an ultra`violet security code is added to the bike.

:10:29. > :10:33.It's then registered on a national database so, if stolen, it can be

:10:34. > :10:41.identified. Thousands of bikes have now been registered and the council

:10:42. > :10:49.plans to extend the scheme. 15,000 bikes with security codes is

:10:50. > :10:55.a great deal for us. We want to push on to make sure every bike has this

:10:56. > :10:58.code. You can see it has been marked and the chance of you getting done

:10:59. > :11:01.for it would be greater. Campaigners hoping to transform the

:11:02. > :11:04.Bradford Odeon site have had their first look inside. The historic

:11:05. > :11:08.building has been empty and unused for 13 years. Revamping it could

:11:09. > :11:15.cost up to ?20 million. Emma Glasbey reports.

:11:16. > :11:24.18 years of changing faces for one of Yorkshire's most historic

:11:25. > :11:32.buildings. The Bradford Odeon has not been used since 2000. For more

:11:33. > :11:37.than a decade, it has been lefty `` it has been left empty and it has

:11:38. > :11:41.taken its toll. Builders can see what they could be taking on. There

:11:42. > :11:49.is the group wanted to make it a live concert venue. You have to see

:11:50. > :11:53.beyond the mess and the rubbish. Bradford needs an attraction to

:11:54. > :11:57.bring people into the city centre and this building would do so. And

:11:58. > :12:02.then there is the group wanting it to be a music and arts venue owned

:12:03. > :12:08.by the community. It is like going into the Titanic where it is all

:12:09. > :12:15.laying there. There is moss and fungus everywhere. It didn't feel as

:12:16. > :12:19.bad as we expected. Bradford Council will look at the different bids once

:12:20. > :12:24.they are in and make a decision but the future of this building is not

:12:25. > :12:32.yet secure. Hopefully, someone will come forward and bring forward

:12:33. > :12:38.something that is deliverable. We don't want to go back to a blank

:12:39. > :12:45.sheet of paper which may include demolition. I am optimistic. With so

:12:46. > :12:50.much history, there are plenty of people hoping for a bright future

:12:51. > :12:55.for the building but bringing it back to life could cost between 15

:12:56. > :13:01.and ?20 million. This building has been wasted for the past 13 years

:13:02. > :13:07.but back in the 1930s, it opened as a ballroom. In their 60s, it played

:13:08. > :13:10.host to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. It is hoped that some of

:13:11. > :13:18.that former glory could be restored in the next few years.

:13:19. > :13:25.Fascinating to see inside it after so long. Before seven o'clock:

:13:26. > :13:29.Spooky goings on in North Yorkshire. We are getting ready for Halloween

:13:30. > :13:32.here but if you are of a nervous disposition, you may want to look

:13:33. > :13:42.away now. Look at this! Onto sport and the Winter Olympics

:13:43. > :13:48.at Socchi in Russia are now just 100 days away. With high hopes of a

:13:49. > :13:51.medal is James Woods from Sheffield. The man they call Woodsy, is ranked

:13:52. > :13:57.as Great Britain's top slopestyle skier. He's bagged two World Cup

:13:58. > :14:00.titles in the last 12 months. Slopestyle will be making its

:14:01. > :14:11.Olympic debut, when the Winter Games come around in February.

:14:12. > :14:18.Whichever one overwhelms you the most, pick that one. There is not

:14:19. > :14:24.one person monopolising. There is a whole bank of guys ready to take it.

:14:25. > :14:27.You really just take a stab in the dark and pick your favourite and aim

:14:28. > :14:30.for him. Still in York and in sport York City

:14:31. > :14:34.had a valuable win against Scunthorpe which lifted them five

:14:35. > :14:42.points clear of the relegation zone. Danny Carpenter reports.

:14:43. > :14:47.Sometimes, all you need to change your fortunes is a slice of luck and

:14:48. > :14:55.look for York City came via a large slice. Josh Carson's shot ballooned

:14:56. > :15:03.off a defender after three minutes. No such persistence was needed for

:15:04. > :15:08.Wes Fletcher. City, who had lost four of their previous five games

:15:09. > :15:16.were in a comfortable position. Goals here, like London buses, all

:15:17. > :15:23.at once. You just have to stick out an arm. Nothing dodgy about the

:15:24. > :15:32.finish. The same player made it four with a uncontested volley. City were

:15:33. > :15:37.home dried by half`time. The night and the points belonged to York.

:15:38. > :15:41.Now to a Yorkshireman who's no stranger to danger and is in fact

:15:42. > :15:46.the only Briton to have scaled all 14 of the world's 8,000 metre peaks

:15:47. > :15:49.which includes Everest and K2. Alan Hinkes first took up rock climbing

:15:50. > :15:54.at Northallerton Grammar School but his mountaineering career has taken

:15:55. > :15:58.him much, much higher. And now he can add author to his remarkable

:15:59. > :16:12.list of achievements. He joins us now. I want to get straight on to

:16:13. > :16:17.the crooks of this because these mountains are the tallest in the

:16:18. > :16:23.world and there is a point when you climb them, when you enter the death

:16:24. > :16:28.zone. Beyond that point, the body begins to deteriorate and you are

:16:29. > :16:38.beginning to die. Yes and there is no chance of rescue from helicopter.

:16:39. > :16:44.The highest dash they can't get up to the top. No matter how good the

:16:45. > :16:55.stove you have to melt snow and ice, there is no water. You started rock

:16:56. > :17:06.climbing at Northallerton Grammar School. I started rock climbing on

:17:07. > :17:11.the sandstone and limestone of Yorkshire. We have some fantastic

:17:12. > :17:21.pictures from the book. Do you know where that is? That is from the top

:17:22. > :17:30.of K2. That is an avalanche down K2. That is a 10,000 foot drop down

:17:31. > :17:36.below the climber. That is 26,000 feet and K2 is another 2000 feet

:17:37. > :17:42.above that. So many people have died attempting to claim these

:17:43. > :17:48.mountains. You have climbed all 14. It is astounding. What drives you on

:17:49. > :17:54.to do that? I get asked that a lot. I have come to terms with it and I

:17:55. > :18:01.should be dead! People don't do it because the reason is that they

:18:02. > :18:06.could be killed. Has there ever been any occasion when you felt you were

:18:07. > :18:11.desperately close to dying? There has been a few but the very last

:18:12. > :18:17.one, the third highest mountain in the world, I did have a near death

:18:18. > :18:21.experience. I got to the top of my own in the dark and a blizzard

:18:22. > :18:30.started and I couldn't see a thing, not even with a head torch. I

:18:31. > :18:37.started having a panic attack and thought I was going to die. Somehow,

:18:38. > :18:42.I pulled myself together and pushed the fear into a little compartment

:18:43. > :18:47.in my head. You mentioned your grandma and your daughter, Fiona, in

:18:48. > :18:53.the book. They have had quite a lot to put up with for many years.

:18:54. > :18:58.Micron always thought, "when are you going to pack up this climbing? " ``

:18:59. > :19:16.my ground. `` my grandma. What are you doing next? I might

:19:17. > :19:23.write another book. That was a joke. I would like to go down the deepest

:19:24. > :19:27.hole in the world. A bit of pot holing. The photographs you have

:19:28. > :19:29.taken are stunning. It is a great read.

:19:30. > :19:32.Now it's nearly Halloween and one of our stately homes is tonight

:19:33. > :19:35.transforming itself for its first ever spooky event.

:19:36. > :19:38.Castle Howard in North Yorkshire is perhaps best known for its costume

:19:39. > :19:40.dramas, but tonight it's a drama of a different kind. Ian White can tell

:19:41. > :19:54.us more. Talk about a drama. I am soaking

:19:55. > :19:57.wet, it is blowing a gale, my puppy has blown off. Thousands of people

:19:58. > :20:05.have turned up in Halloween costumes. Castle Howard is all lit

:20:06. > :20:09.up. We have flame`throwers and jugglers. Look at these guys here.

:20:10. > :20:15.One of the highlights will be the Halloween horse show which starts

:20:16. > :20:19.shortly. I have taken a look behind the scenes. It is not everyday you

:20:20. > :20:23.see something like this going on at Castle Howard. A group of stuntmen

:20:24. > :20:29.and actors have spent the day putting the finishing touches to a

:20:30. > :20:35.show for Halloween. It is all fancy, it is all for kids and

:20:36. > :20:38.grown`ups. We have all sorts of magical creatures. The horses are

:20:39. > :20:47.the stars of the show, cleverly trained to act alongside the humours

:20:48. > :20:54.`` humans. It is so much fun. When I was a kid, this was what I always

:20:55. > :21:00.wanted to do. Dress up and entertain people. This show, we get to do a

:21:01. > :21:08.lot and we have put a lot of things in which we think will be good for

:21:09. > :21:17.the kids. In the story, these are the nice guys. I don't do scary very

:21:18. > :21:29.well. I am the one who is scared instead. I am a nice boy. I have a

:21:30. > :21:36.lot of body armour and have a scary mask. There is a lot of injuries.

:21:37. > :21:41.The highs massively outweigh the logos. It is amazing. While the

:21:42. > :21:48.horses spend the afternoon relaxing in the sunshine, it was time for a

:21:49. > :21:54.bit of male grooming and time to get into character. If you want to see

:21:55. > :21:59.what they look like, here they are. Ricky is looking a lot better than

:22:00. > :22:07.he was earlier. You have something spectacular for us? Yes. Here we go

:22:08. > :22:22.and stop they are light in the flames. We will see a horse jump. He

:22:23. > :22:33.has failed. He is scared. Look at this. It has done it. Simon, you

:22:34. > :22:39.must love this. It is brilliant, not that I have always appreciated

:22:40. > :22:43.Halloween. All I can say is it is wonderful this evening. Lots of

:22:44. > :22:48.people here, house looking wonderful and everyone will enjoy themselves.

:22:49. > :22:56.We'll be able to get to tonight? Hopefully. The idea is to get people

:22:57. > :23:04.through the doors. It has been a real success tonight. It is the

:23:05. > :23:10.first time we have done it. We have a few problems but we are getting

:23:11. > :23:14.there. The weather doesn't help. It adds to the fun. I'll blame the

:23:15. > :23:21.weather presenters back in the studio. Have a great time if you are

:23:22. > :23:28.coming down here tonight. That poor horse!

:23:29. > :23:30.We would love your Halloween pictures, pumpkins included. Send

:23:31. > :23:54.them to this `` us. Now, you are going to carve a

:23:55. > :24:04.pumpkin and put a cat inside it, aren't you?

:24:05. > :24:13.We have some pictures of the weather. The clouds are starting to

:24:14. > :24:33.break up there. We have an autumnal scene near Halifax. This is a cat

:24:34. > :24:38.enjoying the weather in the garden. It is rather wet out there but it

:24:39. > :24:43.has been forecast so you can't blame us. Tomorrow, there would be some

:24:44. > :24:50.sunshine around but a few showers being blown in on a brisk breeze.

:24:51. > :24:54.The weather stays fairly unsettled and we have low pressure for the

:24:55. > :25:00.weekend. There will be some heavy rain at times and some strong winds

:25:01. > :25:06.also. At the moment, it is wet and windy. This weather front is

:25:07. > :25:11.trekking south eastwards. Wet and windy weather is creeping south
