:01:16. > :01:19.Our main story tonight. The father of a West Yorkshire woman who was
:01:20. > :01:23.murdered by a man with a history of violence has today seen a campaign
:01:24. > :01:28.he started be rolled out across England and Wales. Michael Brown,
:01:29. > :01:31.who's from Batley, campaigned for a change in the law to protect women
:01:32. > :01:35.after his daughter Clare was killed by her ex`boyfriend. A pilot scheme
:01:36. > :01:38.has been running in four areas but now Clare's Law will be implemented
:01:39. > :01:47.nationwide. Shamir Masri caught up with her father earlier today.
:01:48. > :01:51.Today marks a significant step forward for the father whose
:01:52. > :01:55.daughter was killed by her abusive ex partner. Since her death, Michael
:01:56. > :02:01.Brown has campaigned for a change in the law. In 2009, Clare Wood was
:02:02. > :02:05.murdered by her ex`boyfriend. The mother from West Yorkshire had no
:02:06. > :02:13.idea he had a history of violent attacks against women. Clare's
:02:14. > :02:17.father argued that data protection should not protect abusive fathers
:02:18. > :02:20.and introduced Clare's Law weaving people the right to check their
:02:21. > :02:27.partners for any records of domestic abuse. Now, Clare's Law will be
:02:28. > :02:32.lamented in March next year. Clare's Law is not a panacea, we have never
:02:33. > :02:36.advocated that it. Domestic violence. But what it does do is it
:02:37. > :02:41.his women and men in that situation a reason much as `` we have never
:02:42. > :02:47.advocated that it will stop domestic violence. It gives people advice on
:02:48. > :02:51.what they should do in the future, go or stables. People have spoken
:02:52. > :02:55.out in favour of the changes. Figures released I West Yorkshire
:02:56. > :03:06.Police say one in four women will suffer domestic abuse in their
:03:07. > :03:13.lifetime will `` in their lifetime. Charities say more still needs to be
:03:14. > :03:17.done. We have concerns that no record is not the same as no risk.
:03:18. > :03:22.And of course there are people out there who do not have anything on
:03:23. > :03:26.record nonetheless, what the person is experiencing in the relationship
:03:27. > :03:30.could be abusive but they are not getting those warning signs
:03:31. > :03:33.confirmed by this check. It is hoped Clare's Law will help prevent
:03:34. > :03:42.innocent people becoming be the Thames of their abusive partners ``
