:00:00. > :00:10.Good evening and welcome to Look while on a routine police

:00:11. > :00:17.Good evening and welcome to Look North.

:00:18. > :00:21.The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has condemned plans for the high speed

:00:22. > :00:23.rail link HS2 as a "disaster" for the environment which will destroy

:00:24. > :00:26.one of its reserves and seriously damage another. They're calling for

:00:27. > :00:29.a total rethink saying the cost benefits of the project do not

:00:30. > :00:32.outweigh the environmental losses. Danny Carpenter reports.

:00:33. > :00:34.This is Woodhouse Washlands, a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust nature

:00:35. > :00:37.reserve near Sheffield. And this is Water Haigh Woodland

:00:38. > :00:44.Park, a nature reserve run by the trust for Leeds City Council.

:00:45. > :00:54.They have something else in common: HS2.

:00:55. > :00:59.The main HS2 line is coming up straight through the park here, it

:01:00. > :01:05.is going to run down what is now the Trans Pennine Trail.

:01:06. > :01:10.Rob Stoneman is the trust's Chief Executive. He says that more than

:01:11. > :01:13.2500 square kilometres of designated nature reserves will be destroyed by

:01:14. > :01:17.the line between Leeds and London. And he has no faith in the planning

:01:18. > :01:21.system to defend it. What we've got to do is take a

:01:22. > :01:24.landscape by landscape approach and actually go beyond the statutory

:01:25. > :01:27.process, so I haven't really got faith. And it's not really HS2's

:01:28. > :01:30.fault, really, they're using a statutory process which is actually

:01:31. > :01:33.bust and we can see it's bust because British wildlife has

:01:34. > :01:37.declined year`on` year in the last 60 years.

:01:38. > :01:41.HS2 is supported by those calling for jobs and growth, but according

:01:42. > :01:47.to the trust, the economic argument is weak. We will create

:01:48. > :01:57.opportunities elsewhere where there has been impact on by biodiversity.

:01:58. > :02:00.It is perhaps not a direct comparison but according to HS2's

:02:01. > :02:08.figures, for every ?1 invested in that project you'll get almost ?2

:02:09. > :02:14.back. But for every ?1 invested in a cycle route like this, you get

:02:15. > :02:18.almost ?20 back. The financial cost of HS2 is going to be more than ?40

:02:19. > :02:20.billion and will result in the destruction of many green spaces.

:02:21. > :02:32.Who can put a price on that? An ice`cream company's being

:02:33. > :02:34.investigated by North Yorkshire Police for what's thought to be

:02:35. > :02:38.deliberate contamination of their products. R Foods in Leeming Bar

:02:39. > :02:42.is at the centre of an investigation after chocolate and nut ice cream

:02:43. > :02:45.cones made for Tesco had to be recalled. Pain relief tablets were

:02:46. > :02:47.found in two cones and the Major Crime Unit is investigating. The

:02:48. > :02:51.Food Standards Agency says people who bought the packs, with best

:02:52. > :03:00.before dates up to and including July 2014, should not eat them as a

:03:01. > :03:07.precaution. The company says it has now introduced additional security

:03:08. > :03:10.measures. Businesses in Yorkshire are being

:03:11. > :03:13.urged to make the safety of their employees a top priority for 2014.

:03:14. > :03:16.It's after figures released today by the Health and Safety Executive show

:03:17. > :03:21.fifteen workers were killed in Yorkshire and the Humber between

:03:22. > :03:25.2012 and 2013. The figures also show that more than 1800 people suffered

:03:26. > :03:35.major injuries, a fall of 16% on the previous year.

:03:36. > :03:38.Bassetlaw MP John Mann says that MPs should give any pay rise to charity.

:03:39. > :03:46.He's calling for the independent body which sets their pay to face

:03:47. > :03:50.constraints. He says proposals to give MPs a ?7,000 pay rise are

:03:51. > :03:55.unfair, when everyone else faces pay cuts or minimal rises.

:03:56. > :03:59.Tributes are being paid to the founder of the North Yorkshire Moors

:04:00. > :04:02.Railway and his wife who both died over Christmas. Tom Salmon and his

:04:03. > :04:08.wife Erica both passed away within 24 hours of each other. Nicknamed

:04:09. > :04:11."the father of the railway", Mr Salmon was one of its founding

:04:12. > :04:15.members and is credited with much of its success. Erica died on Christmas

:04:16. > :04:18.Eve and was quickly followed by her husband on Christmas morning. Trains

:04:19. > :04:22.will continue to run over the New Year but will carry wreaths as a

:04:23. > :04:26.mark of respect in memory of the couple.

:04:27. > :04:29.Football now and all of our teams were in action yesterday. The busy

:04:30. > :04:32.festive period continues and there was no shortage of seasonal joy at

:04:33. > :04:35.the John Smith's Stadium in Huddersfield, as Ian Bucknell

:04:36. > :04:38.reports. After going a goal down early on,

:04:39. > :04:41.Huddersfield's performance was five`star. Adam Clayton tickled one

:04:42. > :04:44.in at the near post, followed by Martin Paterson's net buster.

:04:45. > :04:48.Defender Joel Lynch made it three and after the break, a double from

:04:49. > :04:56.Danny Ward sealed the 5`1 win with a bit of help from the Yeovil keeper.

:04:57. > :05:01.I thought we were standing the whole game, the supporters got behind us.

:05:02. > :05:05.We kept moving the ball and kept trying to create chances. It was a

:05:06. > :05:09.little bit frustrating in the last ten minutes because we have done so

:05:10. > :05:12.well for the previous 80. Ross MacCormack pulled Leeds level

:05:13. > :05:16.at Nottingham Forest, but the home side soon came back to win 2`1.

:05:17. > :05:19.Leeds boss Brian McDermott says he has four players on his January

:05:20. > :05:27.shopping list to try and keep his team in the mix for the play`offs.

:05:28. > :05:39.Goal of the day and arguably the best you will see all season by so

:05:40. > :05:47.Tomasz Cywka. Sadly, it did not stop his team losing 2`1 and they remain

:05:48. > :05:51.rock bottom of the championship. Jamie Murphy kept his feet and

:05:52. > :06:00.composure to put Sheffield United ahead against Tranmere. Further

:06:01. > :06:10.goals made for a 3`1 win. Mark Richards penalty put Chester ahead.

:06:11. > :06:21.Finally, York City when two goals behind when keeper fumbled here.

:06:22. > :06:24.Relegation out of the Football League are starting to live in. You

:06:25. > :06:36.can see highlights on the Football League show.

:06:37. > :06:39.Well it's been another wet and windy day and those gales meant the roads

:06:40. > :06:42.around Bridgewater Place in Leeds were closed once again.

:06:43. > :06:45.Also closed was the bottom of the Headrow. Police had to cordon off a

:06:46. > :06:49.section of the road while repairs were made to some roofing which had

:06:50. > :07:02.become loose in the strong winds. With all the details, here's Paul

:07:03. > :07:08.Mooney. Good evening. It will be wet and stormy into the New Year. It

:07:09. > :07:12.will be largely dry into the night, but by the end of the night some

:07:13. > :07:26.thicker cloud might bring in the odd shower to the West. Tomorrow morning

:07:27. > :07:31.showers become more widespread. Many places then dry up again and

:07:32. > :07:41.brighten up the course of the afternoon. The winds will not be as

:07:42. > :07:45.strong as today. If you are out and about tomorrow night to bring in the

:07:46. > :07:56.New Year, there is a good chance you will stay dry. It will be breezy, so

:07:57. > :07:59.wrap up if you are outside. For New Year 's day it looks like another

:08:00. > :08:05.band of wet and windy weather coming in from the west. Heavy rain at

:08:06. > :08:13.times. Brighter spells as we head into Thursday. A mixed bag over the

:08:14. > :08:23.next few days. It will be wet and windy. Stay up`to`date on your radio

:08:24. > :08:37.station. Thank you. That is all from us. Goodbye.

:08:38. > :08:44.Another day off strong winds, heavy rain and flooding. At least things

:08:45. > :08:48.are quiet at the moment. The rain has cleared off and the wind is

:08:49. > :08:55.lighter. There might be some ice in Scotland, but through the night the

:08:56. > :09:00.wind picks up, lifting temperatures, but more heavy rain pushing in. The

:09:01. > :09:06.rain band is not quite a significant us today, but it will leave surface

:09:07. > :09:07.water flooding. Some heavy bursts clearing Northern Ireland by first
