:00:09. > :00:15.Good evening. A man's been jailed for the rest of his natural life for

:00:16. > :00:18.what a court was told was the savage and sadistic murder of a

:00:19. > :00:22.four`year`old boy as he slept in his bed at home near Keighley. Former

:00:23. > :00:25.soldier Anwar Rosser, admitted killing Riley Turner. In court he

:00:26. > :00:34.was described as a psycopath and a bullying alcoholic. Our crime

:00:35. > :00:41.correspondent John Cundy reports. Of the much loved little boy. He was

:00:42. > :00:45.murdered in his bed by a neighbour the family had taken in. Anwar

:00:46. > :00:55.Rosser had been allowed by his family to sleep downstairs. In the

:00:56. > :01:00.early hours he went upstairs to where Riley Turner was sleeping. He

:01:01. > :01:11.stabbed the boy 30 times, cut his throat, strangled, and sexually

:01:12. > :01:18.molested him. The prosecution gave details of the

:01:19. > :01:29.appalling attack. There was sobbing and crying from the public gallery.

:01:30. > :01:36.A police officer described the feelings of the family.

:01:37. > :01:41.We will never come to terms with what has happened. We will always

:01:42. > :01:47.feel hurt at the way that Riley Turner was so cruelly taken from

:01:48. > :02:05.us. The judge said:

:02:06. > :02:09.as abuse was shouted at Anwar Rosser. He was told he would never

:02:10. > :02:17.be released from jail as the law stands now.

:02:18. > :02:21.Last night we saw the worst winds of the winter ` tomorrow we're

:02:22. > :02:25.expecting torrential rain. But today has been about picking up the

:02:26. > :02:29.pieces. We saw a top wind speed of 92 miles per hour at High Bradfield

:02:30. > :02:31.in South Yorkshire. Across the region emergency services were

:02:32. > :02:35.called out to more than 600 incidents. And at the height of the

:02:36. > :02:38.gales 56,300 people were without power in Yorkshire ` 1,300 of whom

:02:39. > :02:50.are still waiting to be re`connected. Cathy Killick reports.

:02:51. > :02:54.Just one of scores of fallen trees uprooted either power of the wind.

:02:55. > :02:58.It's blocked a major commuter route into Leeds. It fell during last

:02:59. > :03:04.nights rush hour miraculously missing the traffic. It was a busy

:03:05. > :03:10.night for emergency services. The work continues today. We have had

:03:11. > :03:13.teams working through the night in atrocious conditions to get supplies

:03:14. > :03:16.back on. We want to thank our customers for their patients while

:03:17. > :03:22.we have managed to restore supplies.

:03:23. > :03:26.If you imagine this replicated a dozen times across the region you

:03:27. > :03:29.get some idea of what the engineers at up against. We are one mile from

:03:30. > :03:43.the nudist road. Yields are very wet. `` one mile from the closest

:03:44. > :03:53.road. The power cut lasted 16 hours. It

:03:54. > :04:08.was freezing this morning when we got up I got both the fires on. We

:04:09. > :04:14.were able to have a T. 30 residents in a care home were moved to safety

:04:15. > :04:22.when the roof off. While we were talking we heard a crash.

:04:23. > :04:35.Lorries were no match for the ferocious gasps. `` ferocious winds.

:04:36. > :04:41.With high winds, rain and possible flooding to come it us candles at

:04:42. > :04:46.the ready. So that was the wind but with yet

:04:47. > :04:49.more rain on the way it's an anxious time for householders living close

:04:50. > :04:52.to our rivers. We've been lucky so far. We've just got four flood

:04:53. > :04:55.warnings in place in our region at the moment.

:04:56. > :04:59.There are two on the River Ouse in York and one for the River Ouse

:05:00. > :05:01.again at Naburn Lock as well as one for the River Ure at Roecliffe

:05:02. > :05:05.Caravan Park. And this was a very swollen River

:05:06. > :05:07.Wharfe at Tadcaster earlier today. So how have we managed to get away

:05:08. > :05:11.with it? Adrian Gill is the Area Flood Risk

:05:12. > :05:17.Manager with the Environment Agency. He says they're keeping a very close

:05:18. > :05:20.eye on things. We have had a lot of persistent rain

:05:21. > :05:28.in the last month. Down rain the persistent `` downsized it has been

:05:29. > :05:36.exceptional. We have been lucky in our area. Riverside had a chance to

:05:37. > :05:40.recover. But we do have saturated catchments. If we get intense

:05:41. > :05:43.downpours there is the risk of flooding. If the rain continues in

:05:44. > :05:58.this persistent nature we may start to have problems. Are we on the

:05:59. > :06:04.edge? Is it a fine dividing line? We may see some flood alerts. At the

:06:05. > :06:09.moment we not expecting see properties flooding. The line

:06:10. > :06:12.between flooding and not flooding is sometimes quite small. We will

:06:13. > :06:18.continue to monitor the weather around the clock we will keep people

:06:19. > :06:26.informed as the situation changes. We have seen farmland completely

:06:27. > :06:31.flooded. How quickly will our areas?

:06:32. > :06:35.Land will get wet in the wetter months of the year and then try out.

:06:36. > :06:38.We do not have the same issues that they have on the Somerset levels

:06:39. > :06:46.which will take many months to dry out. What we have at the moment is

:06:47. > :06:48.within tolerances. Meanwhile ` Yorkshire businesses and

:06:49. > :06:52.farmers have been helping those affected by the severe flooding down

:06:53. > :06:54.south. Leeds based Hesco have been supplying their world renowned

:06:55. > :06:58.Bastion barrier, where it's been deployed in place of traditional

:06:59. > :07:02.less effective sandbags. While our region's farmers have arrived in

:07:03. > :07:05.Somerset with bales of hay to help their colleagues on the Levels who

:07:06. > :07:19.are struggling to feed their animals.

:07:20. > :07:29.Here is the weather. How bad is this winter in your opinion which?

:07:30. > :07:32.1915 was the worst on record. I think we will beat that across

:07:33. > :07:40.England as a whole. That shows how lucky we have been. There is more

:07:41. > :07:47.reading to come. There is hell snow. There is a yellow warning in

:07:48. > :07:59.place for the Pennines. `` there is more snow. Turning wet and windy.

:08:00. > :08:05.Another weather system coming in from the Southwest. This is

:08:06. > :08:11.Saturday's chart. Sunday is the pick of the weekend. Dry with some

:08:12. > :08:15.sunshine. Another weather system is coming in on Sunday night. It will

:08:16. > :08:20.be very unsettled on Monday. We still have a few showers in Western

:08:21. > :08:30.and Northern areas. Watch out for icy patches on and heated surfaces.

:08:31. > :08:41.Tomorrow a promising start. Dry and bright. Clyde will begin. Rain into

:08:42. > :08:54.South Yorkshire. Showers sweep back up from the Southwest. Strong winds

:08:55. > :08:59.along the coast. More heavy showers Friday night. Saturday cloudy. Best

:09:00. > :09:10.of the dry weather in East. Sunday looks dry and sunny.

:09:11. > :09:15.Hello, in this winter of perpetual autumn, it seems we're never more

:09:16. > :09:20.than a day away from a storm so we must be due another one and as

:09:21. > :09:25.you've just heard, here it comes, deepening in the Atlantic Trio

:09:26. > :09:29.heading for us. Overall for the UK, we're not expecting this to be as

:09:30. > :09:33.severe as the storm yesterday that there will be some significant

:09:34. > :09:37.impact, particularly where the Met Office has weather warnings in force

:09:38. > :09:44.and that means more rain will serve to heighten the floods. All the

:09:45. > :09:47.while, the wind is picking up, reaching its peak tomorrow night in

:09:48. > :09:48.southern England. This is
