:00:11. > :00:16.Thank you. Good evening. It's 70 years this weekend since an American

:00:17. > :00:19.fighter aircraft crashed in a park in Sheffield during the Second World

:00:20. > :00:23.War. The B17 bomber, nicknamed Mi Amigo, was on its way back to

:00:24. > :00:26.Britain from bombing Nazi targets in Denmark when it crashed in woodland

:00:27. > :00:29.in Endcliffe Park. Today people in Sheffield have been remembering the

:00:30. > :00:34.ten aircrew who were killed. Here's Mark Ansell.

:00:35. > :00:38.American B`17 bomber crews based in Britain during the Second World War

:00:39. > :00:43.had to fly 25 missions before being allowed home. But many were killed

:00:44. > :00:51.in action. Among them were the ten man crew of Mi Amigo. This plane was

:00:52. > :00:55.coming back from a bombing raid in Denmark and as it limped over the

:00:56. > :01:00.house is behind me, the pilot lost control and ended up crashing in the

:01:01. > :01:06.trees over their in Sheffield. The plane narrowly missed the children

:01:07. > :01:11.playing in Endcliffe Park, and there are some people that have vivid

:01:12. > :01:17.memories of that day. It was mangled metal and explosions going off with

:01:18. > :01:23.what munitions were left on it. It came over here and suddenly it went

:01:24. > :01:28.into a spin and into these trees just at the back, and it burst into

:01:29. > :01:33.flames. I remember my mother picking me up in her arms and running

:01:34. > :01:37.outside with me towards the park railings and seeing people running

:01:38. > :01:41.madly across the grass towards the area to see if they could help.

:01:42. > :01:46.Unfortunately, they couldn't, because the poor men had perished.

:01:47. > :01:50.Today, in Sheffield, they have been remembering the young men who died

:01:51. > :01:57.in the crash. It is a significant day for the American service men

:01:58. > :02:02.from Harrogate. We have come here to remember ten Americans. Their fellow

:02:03. > :02:05.generations are wondering does anybody care about them? We do. You

:02:06. > :02:10.do. And we appreciate that very much. For the Americans and the

:02:11. > :02:16.people of Sheffield alike, it is important to pay tributes to former

:02:17. > :02:20.comrades that died for our freedom 70 years ago.

:02:21. > :02:23.The search is continuing for a prisoner, jailed for the murder of a

:02:24. > :02:26.West Yorkshire pensioner, who absconded while on day release from

:02:27. > :02:30.jail. Paul Maxwell escaped while he was on a visit to Rochdale town

:02:31. > :02:33.centre. He's serving life for the murder of 85`year`old Joe Smailes,

:02:34. > :02:37.seen here on the left, in Wakefield in 1996. He was robbed and severely

:02:38. > :02:41.beaten in his home leaving him with a broken neck.

:02:42. > :02:45.Next tonight, earlier this week we brought you the story of a group of

:02:46. > :02:48.people starting on a new project to build a brand new steam engine. The

:02:49. > :02:52.mighty P2 first rolled out of the Plant Works in Doncaster eight

:02:53. > :02:55.decades ago. It was one of the largest locomotives they ever built

:02:56. > :02:58.there. To build the very first part for the new one, television

:02:59. > :03:05.personality James May offered his services. We were invited along.

:03:06. > :03:12.You will often see him behind the wheel, but maybe not the wheel of a

:03:13. > :03:15.locomotive. James May is a self`confessed engineering

:03:16. > :03:21.enthusiast, the ideal choice to join forces with a group of people that

:03:22. > :03:25.wants to build a brand`new steam engine. Nothing to worry about

:03:26. > :03:32.there. Disengage. Here we go. The aim is to recreate a class P2, six

:03:33. > :03:37.were built with the first running out of the plant were at 80 years

:03:38. > :03:42.ago. The new one will be called the Prince of Wales. I like this stuff.

:03:43. > :03:47.I am not into pretending that I do things, I just do things that I

:03:48. > :03:52.like, I like metalwork, machinery, I like the smells, all of that. I like

:03:53. > :03:57.it. Some people think it is all very anal, but it is no different from

:03:58. > :04:02.liking cooking or whatever. Two years ago, a few people build

:04:03. > :04:07.tornado which has gone on to become a star train on the line. James has

:04:08. > :04:13.been here from the start, and he is building the very first component.

:04:14. > :04:18.It becomes tangible, the project has begun to take shape. Until now, it

:04:19. > :04:24.has been fundraising, but now we're starting construction. 12 hours

:04:25. > :04:28.later, it was finished. The rest of the locomotive should be done in

:04:29. > :04:35.another seven years. All of that lovely turning and none of us will

:04:36. > :04:40.ever see it. But when it comes towards you, you will know that you

:04:41. > :04:44.made it. Yes, I would be quite boring about it! If I am with anyone

:04:45. > :04:50.and it is coming towards us, or if it appears in the newspaper, I would

:04:51. > :04:52.be like, I have done that! The Sheffield boxer and former

:04:53. > :04:55.Sheffield United footballer Curtis Woodhouse is to retire after winning

:04:56. > :04:57.the British light`welterweight title.

:04:58. > :05:00.The 33`year`old went into his bout as an underdog against defending

:05:01. > :05:03.champion Darren Hamilton. But in a close contest he grew in belief as

:05:04. > :05:06.his jab caused Hamilton problems. He improved his record to 22 wins from

:05:07. > :05:08.28 fights. Onto rugby league and two results

:05:09. > :05:13.this afternoon. Huddersfield Giants 24, Hull KR 24. Castleford Tigers

:05:14. > :05:18.32, Catalan Dragons six. Now, the weather.

:05:19. > :05:25.Good evening, it is been a windy day for many of us and this evening, the

:05:26. > :05:29.wind continues to be strong from the south`west. This rain which has been

:05:30. > :05:33.edging into parts of the Dales will retreat for a part tonight, so

:05:34. > :05:39.mainly cloudy for many of us and mild with temperatures falling to

:05:40. > :05:43.seven or eight Celsius. For Monday, staying windy, that rain will start

:05:44. > :05:49.to edge to the east and it would break up to leave a fairly dry,

:05:50. > :05:53.sunny afternoon with temperatures of around nine or 10 degrees. Then, as

:05:54. > :05:58.we go through to Tuesday, it turns wet and clearing into sunshine and

:05:59. > :06:00.showers with highs of nine Celsius. The late bulletin is at 10:15pm,

:06:01. > :06:10.from the tea`time team, good died. Hello. Still no sign of the weather

:06:11. > :06:14.really settling down next week. There should be an improvement for

:06:15. > :06:17.most of us tomorrow. It will not be as windy as it has been today, and

:06:18. > :06:21.the band of rain will slowly peter out. We still have some rain to come

:06:22. > :06:25.through the night. This band of rain is quite slow moving, it will wander

:06:26. > :06:28.northwards into Dumfries and Galloway. Close to Northern Ireland,

:06:29. > :06:31.heavy rain in Cumbria and later in the night it will turn whether in

:06:32. > :06:35.Wales and the south-west. Southerly wind, quite strong at the moment,

:06:36. > :06:39.that will ease as the night goes on but it should be pretty mild, six or

:06:40. > :06:43.seven degrees, typically. Tomorrow, we start with heavy rain, especially

:06:44. > :06:47.over the hills, as it slips slowly eastwards so the rain tends to

:06:48. > :06:53.become light and patchy. Buying it, we get some sunshine and maybe a few

:06:54. > :06:57.showers. A good day in Scotland especially northern Scotland. In

:06:58. > :07:01.Northern Ireland we will see the showers increasing later in the

:07:02. > :07:10.afternoon. By three o'clock, that is left of the band of cloud and rain,

:07:11. > :07:14.not lifting at all. Sunny spells in the West Midlands and Wales. A few

:07:15. > :07:16.showers, possibly. Temperatures double figures. Very quickly in the

:07:17. > :07:17.evening it will
