:00:00. > :00:30.I want to get people togethdr around the table to prevent this. We'll ask

:00:31. > :00:32.whether pubs could do more to stop young people getting dangerously

:00:33. > :00:40.drunk. Also tonight. Are chhldren who are born in August being put at

:00:41. > :00:47.an unfair disadvantage by schools? And they are over halfway there We

:00:48. > :00:51.catch up with Harry and Amy on their tour of Yorkshire. And a glorious

:00:52. > :01:03.weekend along the coast. Wh`t about this week? Join me for the detailed

:01:04. > :01:06.forecast shortly. First tonhght an emergency summit is to be hdld in

:01:07. > :01:09.York to address growing safdty concerns over the city's rivers

:01:10. > :01:12.It's been called by North Yorkshire's Police and Crimd

:01:13. > :01:15.Commissioner following a nulber of drownings. The latest of whhch was

:01:16. > :01:25.20`year`old Megan Roberts who died after a night out with friends.

:01:26. > :01:30.Danny Carpenter has our top story. Police divers are not an uncommon

:01:31. > :01:35.sight in York, the search of Megan Roberts lasted weeks and ended in

:01:36. > :01:39.tragedy. The latest in a long line of people who have found thdir way

:01:40. > :01:45.into Yorkshire's rivers. In the past five years there have been ` number

:01:46. > :01:50.of high`profile searches, pointless deaths and grieving parents. The

:01:51. > :01:57.victims are invariably young people. Has often been a factor. Most went

:01:58. > :02:02.missing after a night out. Ht would be impractical to try to fence every

:02:03. > :02:07.foot of every river bank, unrealistic to expect peopld to not

:02:08. > :02:12.go out for a drink. What perhaps can be done is to limit the alcoholic

:02:13. > :02:17.strength and volume of what they do drink when they do go out. North

:02:18. > :02:21.Yorkshire's police commissioner is trying to bring together all parties

:02:22. > :02:28.from student unions to door staff, to try to get the message across. If

:02:29. > :02:32.you look at Ipswich, they h`ve a voluntary ban on the sale of high

:02:33. > :02:37.strength alcohol through retailers. The idea of preloading has been made

:02:38. > :02:43.more difficult there. York City Council have discussed that

:02:44. > :02:46.approach. The Ipswich experhment was about protecting the vulner`ble from

:02:47. > :02:53.themselves and making strong drink harder to get. It has led to a 3%

:02:54. > :02:59.drop in alcohol`related inchdents. Just one measure to be conshdered.

:03:00. > :03:02.In the meantime, another river is being searched, this time for Ben

:03:03. > :03:11.Clarkson, who has been misshng for 15 days. We have been walking the

:03:12. > :03:14.last 15 days, everywhere, and I want somebody who knows anything, the

:03:15. > :03:20.matter how trivial, to come forward. I want my son back. He might turn up

:03:21. > :03:28.safe and well, others have not been so lucky.

:03:29. > :03:31.The proposed high`speed railway line to Yorkshire could be up and running

:03:32. > :03:35.by 2030, that's three years ahead of schedule. That's one of the ideas

:03:36. > :03:38.that's been outlined today by the new chairman of HS2, who's been

:03:39. > :03:42.trying to persuade people that the railway will bring benefits to rail

:03:43. > :03:46.users in the the north of England. Spencer Stokes has been looking at

:03:47. > :03:52.the latest plans. It's calldd HS2 Plus. A new plan by the chahrman of

:03:53. > :03:55.HS2, Sir David Higgins to gdt the high speed railway to the north

:03:56. > :03:58.sooner, and deliver MORE benefits for rail users here in Yorkshire.

:03:59. > :04:03.The main proposal is that HS2 should be fully up and running by 2030

:04:04. > :04:06.rather then 2033. Sir David Higgins also wants what he calls "an

:04:07. > :04:17.ambitious plan to link Manchester and Leeds". And if you live in

:04:18. > :04:20.Bradford or Wakefield HS2 Plus could deliver vastly improved rail

:04:21. > :04:22.services with the report specifically mentioning those two

:04:23. > :04:26.cities. But HS2 Plus makes no mention of building work st`rting

:04:27. > :04:30.here in the north at the sale time as the south. The chief executive of

:04:31. > :04:33.Leeds City Council Tom Riordan was at this mornings briefing in

:04:34. > :04:42.Manchester and he's behind the HS2 Plus idea. What we have heard is

:04:43. > :04:48.that it has got to be a single system. It cannot be HS2 bolted onto

:04:49. > :04:53.a classic rail network and that means we need improvements bringing

:04:54. > :04:57.forward that will benefit Ldeds Bradford, Wakefield, the

:04:58. > :05:00.trans`Pennine corridor, which could make a difference in the next few

:05:01. > :05:03.years. HS2 Plus is about integrating the new line with all the other

:05:04. > :05:06.developments that are in thd pipeline rather than building a

:05:07. > :05:10.totally separate railway. That idea is supported by the Labour Party,

:05:11. > :05:17.but one of their MPs in West Yorkshire is still not convhnced.

:05:18. > :05:22.When I get off the train from London at Wakefield, I get on a box with

:05:23. > :05:28.wheels that should have read in the York Railway Museum years ago. I am

:05:29. > :05:32.pretty clear that a network, a high`speed network between `ll of

:05:33. > :05:39.the northern cities would m`ke sense and it is my priority. HS2 hs such a

:05:40. > :05:43.long way away and I do not see it stay anything but draining power

:05:44. > :05:51.away from our great cities. So what happens now? The government say they

:05:52. > :06:00.support the concept but there has been no detail on funding local

:06:01. > :06:03.concepts. And it'll be the dnd of this year before we get fin`l

:06:04. > :06:08.confirmation on whether Yorkshire gets HS2 in 2030 or 2033. L`ter on

:06:09. > :06:12.Look North. He already owns one Super League club. Could his wife be

:06:13. > :06:15.about to take over another? We hear from the couple who say thex could

:06:16. > :06:19.save the Bradford Bulls frol financial ruin. A mother from

:06:20. > :06:23.Shipley has won a fight with Bradford Council to allow hdr August

:06:24. > :06:26.born son to delay his education by a year. Mary Lawler thought Oscar

:06:27. > :06:30.would be much younger than other children in his year if he started

:06:31. > :06:33.school a few days after his fourth birthday. She wanted him to be

:06:34. > :06:46.allowed to start reception class when he was five. Ian White reports.

:06:47. > :06:52.Three and a half year old Oscar plays at home in Shipley with his

:06:53. > :06:56.mother Mary Lawler. His birthday is on August the 28th and he is a

:06:57. > :07:00.so`called summer born child. He should start primary school in

:07:01. > :07:04.September when he will have turned four. His mother thinks he would be

:07:05. > :07:11.too young, being almost 12 lonths behind older children. I did not

:07:12. > :07:16.think he was ready for school as a very young four`year`old, h`ving a

:07:17. > :07:19.birthday three days from thd point that is the cut`off point for the

:07:20. > :07:27.next year and I did not think he would get the most of his education,

:07:28. > :07:31.starting so young. By law, children who would be young in the fhrst year

:07:32. > :07:35.of school can wait until thd September after their fifth

:07:36. > :07:40.birthday, if their parents feel they need more time to develop. But in

:07:41. > :07:44.Bradford, like other authorhties, Oscar would be sent into ye`r one

:07:45. > :07:50.rather than reception class and Mary said that was unfair and wotld

:07:51. > :07:53.disadvantage her child. Early year 's nursery and reception is about

:07:54. > :07:58.learning how to make friends and sort things out before you get into

:07:59. > :08:03.actual academics. To miss ott on that is such a vital piece of

:08:04. > :08:08.schooling. Bradford Council said it looked at each case individtally and

:08:09. > :08:13.finally agreed with Mary, who had been helped by a support group.

:08:14. > :08:18.Parents are the best advocate for the children and they need to

:08:19. > :08:23.pressure authorities, let MPs know, ask MPs to write to the Dep`rtment

:08:24. > :08:27.for Education. Campaigners say the current admissions code does not

:08:28. > :08:32.give parents the right to a reception place, only a right to

:08:33. > :08:35.request it. Probably every parent might not have been able to keep

:08:36. > :08:41.with it as long as I have to make sure Oscar got this. I am not sure

:08:42. > :08:46.what they would have done `` I would have said if they said no, but I

:08:47. > :08:50.kept fighting. Two men have appeared in cotrt

:08:51. > :08:52.charged with the murder of ` 31`year`old man whose body was

:08:53. > :08:55.discovered in woodland in Ldeds Colin Pierre was found by

:08:56. > :08:58.schoolchildren in a beck close to Gledhow Valley Road last Tudsday.

:08:59. > :09:01.48``year`old Trevor Isles, from Pudsey, and 36`year`old Ian Dennis

:09:02. > :09:09.Wilson, from Bradford, have both been charged with kidnap and murder.

:09:10. > :09:12.Detectives continue to appe`l for information to trace 31`year`old

:09:13. > :09:16.Anthony Micah Pyke, from Ledds, in connection with the murder. Two boys

:09:17. > :09:19.and a man have been arrested after a suspected arson attack in Doncaster

:09:20. > :09:24.last night. Six children escaped unhurt after the house on Acacia

:09:25. > :09:29.Road in Skellow was set alight. Fire crews were called to Acacia Road in

:09:30. > :09:35.Skellow at about 8:30. The children are thought to be aged betwden five

:09:36. > :09:37.and 15. An employee at the Bradford`based supermarket chain

:09:38. > :09:40.Morrisons has been arrested following the theft of the payroll

:09:41. > :09:43.data of thousands of employdes. The information, which included bank

:09:44. > :09:47.account details, was published online and sent on a disk to a

:09:48. > :09:53.newspaper. A male member of staff was arrested in Leeds this lorning

:09:54. > :09:56.and is currently in police custody. MPs are to pay tribute to the former

:09:57. > :10:01.Chesterfield Labour MP Tony Benn, who died last week. He was 88. Mr

:10:02. > :10:05.Benn spent more than 50 years at the forefront of left`wing politics in

:10:06. > :10:08.Britain. On Thursday, Deputx Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, will lead the

:10:09. > :10:13.tributes during a special ddbate in the Commons.

:10:14. > :10:15.An appeal for missing York chef Claudia Lawrence, has appeared on

:10:16. > :10:18.digital billboards at railw`y stations across the country as well

:10:19. > :10:25.as Yorkshire shopping centrds. It's five years tomorrow since she was

:10:26. > :10:32.last seen or heard from. Despite a high`profile police investigation,

:10:33. > :10:37.no trace of her has been fotnd. It is a place where there are thousands

:10:38. > :10:40.of people every day, whether it is a shopping centre or station, the more

:10:41. > :10:45.people who see it, the more someone is likely to say something. Skipton

:10:46. > :10:49.has been named as the best place to live in Britain. The North Xorkshire

:10:50. > :10:52.market town was chosen by the Sunday Times and its readers who praised

:10:53. > :10:55.its low crime levels, excellent schools and variety of shops as well

:10:56. > :11:03.as the beautiful surrounding countryside. The gateway to the

:11:04. > :11:05.Dales. You should work for the tourist board. Before seven o'clock.

:11:06. > :11:09.The highlights of the weekend football action. York City lake it

:11:10. > :11:14.four wins in succession as they aim for a place in the play` offs. And

:11:15. > :11:27.how Harry and Amy conquered one of Yorkshire's toughest climbs. They'll

:11:28. > :11:33.be joining us in a few minutes. We can talk about sport and we

:11:34. > :11:38.mentioned York City doing wdll in football. Also, a lot going on at

:11:39. > :11:42.Bradford Bulls. A lot going on. I think she is trying to get rid of

:11:43. > :11:45.you by getting a new job! We'll start with rugby leagte and

:11:46. > :11:49.the fate of the Bradford Bulls will be decided this week. The club has

:11:50. > :11:51.been dogged by financial problems for two years and by Thursd`y we'll

:11:52. > :12:02.find out if they have a new owner one of four bidders is a falily from

:12:03. > :12:11.the Pennines. Ian Bucknell reports. Could this be the future for the

:12:12. > :12:15.Bradford Bulls? Manti, wife of Dr Marwan Koukash, wants to bux the

:12:16. > :12:20.club and has made one of thd number of bits being considered by the

:12:21. > :12:25.administrator. I love the g`me. I have only been going to rugby games

:12:26. > :12:31.for 12 months, but I really enjoy it and once the opportunity cale up for

:12:32. > :12:37.Bradford Bulls, yes, I jumpdd at the chance. They have endure it hard

:12:38. > :12:41.times since a shortfall of over ?1 million was revealed two ye`rs ago.

:12:42. > :12:46.Fans were asked to dig deep to save the club. They are now in a

:12:47. > :12:53.distraction for a second tile and if a buyer is not found, the club will

:12:54. > :12:58.fold. Dr Marwan Koukash, and wealthy Cheshire `based businessmen, already

:12:59. > :13:02.owns Salford. He said his whfe's ownership of Bradford would not

:13:03. > :13:07.cause a conflict of interest. This club will be independent from B B

:13:08. > :13:13.Way Salford is run. Mandy whll need to make the strategic decishons do

:13:14. > :13:18.have a vision for the club herself. The authorities are working with the

:13:19. > :13:21.administrator to assure all potential buyers have necessary

:13:22. > :13:25.funds. They will complete their work by Wednesday and a decision is

:13:26. > :13:30.likely to be announced on Thursday. Fans will hope that whoever takes

:13:31. > :13:35.over will bring an end to the uncertainty and secure the club s

:13:36. > :13:38.future. And you can see how the Bulls got on

:13:39. > :13:42.against Huddersfield Giants on tonight's Super League Show at ten

:13:43. > :13:44.to midnight. I'll be joined by Michael Shenton, captain of the all

:13:45. > :13:47.conquering Castleford Tigers and Richard Mathers from Wakefidld

:13:48. > :13:49.Wildcats. Football, and Sheffield United are away at Preston tonight

:13:50. > :13:53.looking for their eleventh consecutive win as they takd on

:13:54. > :13:56.Northend tonight. But it was a good weekend for city rivals Sheffield

:13:57. > :14:03.Wednesday. Shamir Masri has the action. Sheffield Wednesday are two

:14:04. > :14:08.points behind Huddersfield Leeds after their win at the weekdnd,

:14:09. > :14:15.Caolan Lavery scored the first with Leon Best making it two. Thdre was

:14:16. > :14:21.an own goal before Caolan L`very's second. They won 4`1 at

:14:22. > :14:29.Hillsborough. Doncaster held points, holding Nottingham Forest to a

:14:30. > :14:35.nil`nil draw. Nicky Adams rdscued a point late on for the Millers in a

:14:36. > :14:39.1`1 draw against Walsall. York extended their winning run to four

:14:40. > :14:46.matches in league two with goals from Ryan Bowman and Josh C`rson,

:14:47. > :14:50.making a 2`0 win against Wycombe. They will be knocking on thd door of

:14:51. > :14:57.play`off places. Chesterfield are at the top of league two. They beat

:14:58. > :15:02.Oxford 3`0. Gary Roberts scored two and was last night named le`gue two

:15:03. > :15:03.player of the year. You can see all of the goals of late kick`off

:15:04. > :15:13.tonight. Staying with football and a fan of

:15:14. > :15:16.Leeds United has received a national award for his extreme dedic`tion.

:15:17. > :15:19.Phil Beeton was named Footb`ll League Supporter of the Year at a

:15:20. > :15:23.ceremony in London last night. He hasn't missed a league match since

:15:24. > :15:33.1967 and will soon attend hhs 2 00th consecutive match. Somebody asked me

:15:34. > :15:37.how long it would take to do 25 0, but depending on the division that

:15:38. > :15:41.the club is in, it is going to be another ten years and I think I ll

:15:42. > :15:51.be slowing down quite a lot by then. You never know. He has seen some ups

:15:52. > :15:54.and downs. Boxing now and congratulations to Bob Ajis`fe from

:15:55. > :15:56.Leeds who became British light` heavyweight champion this wdekend

:15:57. > :15:59.beating Dean Francis for thd belt. Meanwhile Kell Brook will now be

:16:00. > :16:02.concentrating on training for a world title shot ` the Sheffield

:16:03. > :16:05.boxer beat his latest oppondnt Alvaro Robles on Saturday nhght in

:16:06. > :16:09.Liverpool ` the Mexican's corner throwing in the towel in thd eighth

:16:10. > :16:17.round. Brook will fight for the IBF title this summer. Looked mhghty

:16:18. > :16:23.impressive. I would not want to be in there with him. I do not think I

:16:24. > :16:27.would like to do the tandem ride. Next tonight, let's find out how our

:16:28. > :16:35.intrepid colleagues Harry and Amy are getting on. To raise money for

:16:36. > :16:38.Sport Relief they're cycling the entire two hundred fifty miles of

:16:39. > :16:42.the two Yorkshire sections of the Tour de France on a tandem! They've

:16:43. > :16:47.managed 150 miles already. On Friday we saw them set off from Ledds and

:16:48. > :16:49.make it to Skipton. Over thd weekend they cycled right round the Dales,

:16:50. > :16:53.including the notorious Buttertubs Pass` to Harrogate. Today they

:16:54. > :16:55.started the second stage in York, and tonight they're in Harrogate

:16:56. > :17:06.again I Love Harrogate over the evening

:17:07. > :17:12.like this, despite this lot behind! The lights are beautiful. I confess

:17:13. > :17:15.that this morning that when I got my bike, I never thought I would

:17:16. > :17:18.achieve that because my back has been killing me for the last three

:17:19. > :17:24.or four days but we a great reception. It was a struggld for you

:17:25. > :17:30.to get on and off today. We are on Dave four and the wind has seemed to

:17:31. > :17:42.be against us but the crowds `` day four. We spent the weekend, and we

:17:43. > :17:48.tackled Buttertubs Pass. Top speed, 1.8 mph. I think that is a record

:17:49. > :17:54.for the slowest. We went up to Leybourn. This morning, we started

:17:55. > :18:02.in York and Cathy Calix joined us the sum of the tour.

:18:03. > :18:05.They are in the starting blocks and they are off. They have four lakes

:18:06. > :18:10.between them but that is a funny looking horse. Day four of the tour

:18:11. > :18:15.of Yorkshire and York is thd starting point. They are off with a

:18:16. > :18:21.cheer from Harry's old school, Saint Peter's. They are looking good after

:18:22. > :18:26.a gruelling weekend. It started in Skipton at 9am on Saturday `nd out

:18:27. > :18:35.of town and hitting the hills. It is a long haul up into the Dalds. Here

:18:36. > :18:43.we are, Mr and Mrs Hudson h`ving a nice romantic weekend. You have just

:18:44. > :18:47.spoilt it! They have strung up the bunting in Kettlewell and H`rry and

:18:48. > :18:56.Amy are on a roll. Everywhere they have been they are warmly wdlcomed.

:18:57. > :19:01.We needed a break. Too right, because this is what came ndxt, the

:19:02. > :19:09.700 foot climb in under thrde miles of Buttertubs impressive. ``

:19:10. > :19:15.Buttertubs Pass is seriouslx impressive. They have earned their

:19:16. > :19:22.freewheeling and a night's rest It is pretty hard for them, dohng that.

:19:23. > :19:27.It is not an easy ride. I w`s sorry `` be sorry for them by the time

:19:28. > :19:32.they get to the end. I think they will do it. Seeing how fit they are

:19:33. > :19:35.and they have the determination Everybody is in using for them and

:19:36. > :19:42.they have a lot of people rooting for them. `` infusing. After

:19:43. > :19:51.breakfast, on Sunday, Amy is raring to go. How are you feeling?

:19:52. > :19:58.Brilliant, thanks. I feel all right. I am glad you do. Harry's b`ckers

:19:59. > :20:01.stiff but the views are enotgh to soothe his aching bones. Thd miles

:20:02. > :20:06.from liberal way as they he`d towards Ripon and the cash hs

:20:07. > :20:15.flowing in generously. Thank you so much. I joined briefly, but could

:20:16. > :20:21.not keep up. Stop Harry! Stop, Amy! I blame my 35`year`old bike. They

:20:22. > :20:39.are like greased lightning will stop onto Harrogate. It has been a

:20:40. > :20:45.brilliant weekend. # I've got to keep on moving.

:20:46. > :20:53.Back to today and they made it to Knaresborough phalange and ` hero's

:20:54. > :20:58.welcome. `` they made it to lunchtime and a hero's welcome. It

:20:59. > :21:04.has been hard work but the support is unbelievable. The date ends in

:21:05. > :21:08.Harrogate once again. They `re at the halfway mark and tired, but

:21:09. > :21:19.buoyed by what it is all about. It would be pointless without this

:21:20. > :21:23.And we give a special thanks to everybody in Knaresborough who gave

:21:24. > :21:28.us a wonderful reception. Wd have a convoy, one of my twins camd with

:21:29. > :21:37.his friend yesterday. Phil Bosma changed his clothes every fhve
