:00:00. > :00:10.Good evening. Police are over on the BBC News

:00:11. > :00:13.Good evening. Police are investigating new claims th`t the

:00:14. > :00:16.television presenter Jimmy Savile abused children at more than 20

:00:17. > :00:21.children's homes and schools across England. The allegations, which date

:00:22. > :00:26.back to the 1960s, '70s and '80s, were uncovered as part of a review

:00:27. > :00:33.by the Metropolitan Police. The Department for Education has named

:00:34. > :00:36.four schools in the Leeds area. First, it was investigations into

:00:37. > :00:40.Jimmy Savile's connections `t the health service. Now under focus his

:00:41. > :00:44.possible activities in children s homes and schools. Among those named

:00:45. > :00:47.today, Northways Residential and Beechcroft children's home, a former

:00:48. > :00:55.blind school and a former grammar school, all in Leeds, and B`ssetlaw

:00:56. > :00:59.School in Nottinghamshire. The problem for the authorities is that

:01:00. > :01:02.some links with Savile have already been discounted, as here at Notre

:01:03. > :01:10.Dame in Leeds, or some of the other institutions named may no longer

:01:11. > :01:12.exist at all. We welcome anx investigation that will revdal how

:01:13. > :01:19.widespread this abuse was perpetrated. At the end of `ll these

:01:20. > :01:22.different enquiries, there lust be some drawing together so th`t

:01:23. > :01:27.lessons can be learnt and wd ensure that it doesn't happen again. Here

:01:28. > :01:31.near Wetherby, a housing development covers up the site of just one

:01:32. > :01:36.school where Jimmy Savile m`y well have once offended. But for Savile,

:01:37. > :01:43.no cover`up as yet another dnquiry investigates his past.

:01:44. > :01:46.Look North has learned that two Leeds schools that were fachng an

:01:47. > :01:50.uncertain future could be t`ken over by Leeds City College. Leeds West

:01:51. > :01:54.and Lees East Academies werd run by the EACT academy chain, but it was

:01:55. > :01:58.forced to give up control bdcause of government concerns that it was not

:01:59. > :02:03.providing enough support. The schools are now in talks with Leeds

:02:04. > :02:05.City College to form a new group called White Rose Academies Trust.

:02:06. > :02:08.Campaigners have staged a protest in Dewsbury against plans for ` major

:02:09. > :02:11.shake`up of hospital servicds at the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust. Under the

:02:12. > :02:14.proposals, all complex and dmergency cases would go to Pinderfields in

:02:15. > :02:20.Wakefield, while Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals would de`l with

:02:21. > :02:22.planned and routine care. The changes will affect everythhng from

:02:23. > :02:29.maternity and children's services to A and surgery.

:02:30. > :02:32.It is 100 days to go until the start of the world's biggest annu`l

:02:33. > :02:36.sporting event, which sets off from Yorkshire on July fifth. Tonight,

:02:37. > :02:39.some of the biggest names in cycling have been at Ripon Cathedral for an

:02:40. > :02:42.official gala dinner, and a deal has been signed to bring a new

:02:43. > :02:49.international three`day racd to Yorkshire from 2015. Our Totr de

:02:50. > :02:59.France correspondent can tell us more.

:03:00. > :03:03.It has been a huge day for dverybody involved with the Tour de France

:03:04. > :03:08.coming to Yorkshire. It started of course, with the beginning of the

:03:09. > :03:12.cultural festival, at 100 d`y countdown, and it has culminated in

:03:13. > :03:16.a sumptuous gala dinner at Ripon Cathedral. I think they are at

:03:17. > :03:23.puddings now. But the conversation really today has been about the

:03:24. > :03:26.cycling legacy. This bike once cluttered solebody's

:03:27. > :03:29.garden shed. But stripped down, spruced up and born again, ht

:03:30. > :03:31.becomes a new vehicle for ftn, fitness and independence.

:03:32. > :03:35.Kirklees`based Streetbikes has given away 2500 bikes in three ye`rs, and

:03:36. > :03:39.taught hundreds how to ride. Nearly every bike here is a recycldd bike

:03:40. > :03:42.that we have fixed up, and we use them for the mixed ability sessions,

:03:43. > :03:48.for community led rides where people don't need a bike to come on the

:03:49. > :03:52.ride, get used to cycling again If they can't afford a bike, wd provide

:03:53. > :03:56.them with a bike. With the Tour de France's visit to Yorkshire now just

:03:57. > :04:01.100 days away, the organisers of the race are hoping to get more of us

:04:02. > :04:04.riding, more often, more safely Sometimes, defining what legacy is

:04:05. > :04:08.can be as hard as achieving it, which is why it is often easier to

:04:09. > :04:11.think in terms of bricks and mortar, objects like the ?29 million cycle

:04:12. > :04:26.superhighway between Bradford and Leeds.

:04:27. > :04:30.Sometimes, defining what legacy is can be as hard as achieving it,

:04:31. > :04:34.which is why it is often easier to think in terms of bricks and mortar,

:04:35. > :04:37.objects like the ?29 million cycle superhighway between Bradford and

:04:38. > :04:42.Leeds. But the projects don't have to be big, as this 250 metrd outdoor

:04:43. > :04:44.velodrome hopes to prove whdn it opens this summer. It will be unique

:04:45. > :04:47.to Yorkshire. It is an outdoor 50, the same size as an Olympic

:04:48. > :04:50.velodrome. It will encouragd grassroots and new people to get

:04:51. > :04:54.into track cycling. Legacy became a bit of a dirty word after the London

:04:55. > :05:02.Olympics. Yorkshire hopes it can build something more substantial.

:05:03. > :05:05.That is the grassroots side of things. Earlier this evening, before

:05:06. > :05:10.the dinner, we heard about the elite here. The president of Brithsh

:05:11. > :05:14.cycling sign the contract whth the organisers of the Tour de France to

:05:15. > :05:19.bring a three`day race to Yorkshire, beginning in May 201 .

:05:20. > :05:23.I'm joined now by Bob. What can you tell me about the race? We signed a

:05:24. > :05:28.memorandum of understanding today, which is the start of the process of

:05:29. > :05:33.winning an international race to Yorkshire, which will be three days,

:05:34. > :05:37.working closely with local authorities. From our point of view,

:05:38. > :05:44.we are looking to maintain the legacy that has been developed from

:05:45. > :05:47.the Tour, which is a fantastic situation and unprecedented on

:05:48. > :05:51.British roads to have the Tour de France, followed by an annu`l event

:05:52. > :05:56.of three days, again bringing the top riders to Britain. At for us

:05:57. > :06:04.more importantly, it is what legacy that can bring to get cycling as a

:06:05. > :06:07.culture into everyday Britahn. I know you are Wakefield man. People

:06:08. > :06:12.want to know where this racd is going to go. Will it go to places

:06:13. > :06:16.that did not get the tour this time? That is the philosophy behind it. I

:06:17. > :06:20.did not tell you that I am the Way to cheese course is about to start,

:06:21. > :06:23.so I had better get back in In sport, in the Super Leagte,

:06:24. > :06:34.Castleford Tigers have beatdn London Broncos 54`6.

:06:35. > :06:43.I heard that there were thunderstorms tonight? Yes, some

:06:44. > :06:47.lively conditions and some big hailstones as well. Very unstable

:06:48. > :06:51.out there. Tomorrow, there hs potentially further heavy r`in in

:06:52. > :06:57.laces. But it is better for the weekend. Further showery outbreaks

:06:58. > :07:02.of rain, hail and thunder. @ bit of wet snow over the tops of the hills.

:07:03. > :07:09.That band will push away northwards. Tomorrow, it is a cloudy

:07:10. > :07:18.day, with the risk of furthdr locally heavy outbreaks. Sotthern

:07:19. > :07:25.areas might have some dry spells. For a lot of time, the Pennhnes

:07:26. > :07:29.could be quite wet. A lot of low cloud first thing on Saturd`y and

:07:30. > :07:37.possibly Sunday, but it brightens for Saturday and Sunday aftdrnoons.

:07:38. > :07:45.Hello, as winter becomes spring the atmosphere contains more energy The

:07:46. > :07:50.shower clouds grow taller. If conditions are right, you get

:07:51. > :07:55.thunder storms. There have been some today. Bob took this picture near

:07:56. > :08:00.London this afternoon. The spring flowers will appreciate the re turn

:08:01. > :08:04.return of warmth. Until then big showers to come, pushing in across

:08:05. > :08:09.south-west England - some hail and thunder. Sleet and snow on to the

:08:10. > :08:14.top of the moors. From Norfolk to coastal England into

:08:15. > :08:17.Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, one or two showers around. Where you are

:08:18. > :08:22.clear for a time, you will see a touch of frost here and there.

:08:23. > :08:26.Patchy mist and fog all in the mix as Friday begins. From the word go,

:08:27. > :08:29.we are dodging downpours in south-west England, increasingly so

:08:30. > :08:36.into Wales as well. Hail and thunder with these. The day is starting

:08:37. > :08:41.starting largely dry weather. Still this area of cloud and outbreaks of

:08:42. > :08:42.rain. Some heavy across
