:00:00. > :00:11.Good evening from Look North. And I'll be back with

:00:12. > :00:15.Good evening from Look North. First tonight, as you may have seen

:00:16. > :00:17.on the national news, there have been chaotic scenes today at

:00:18. > :00:20.Sheffield's half`marathon. Organisers tried to call the event

:00:21. > :00:24.off due to a lack of drinking water for competitors along the route. But

:00:25. > :00:26.many of the 4,100 runners ignored their announcements and completed

:00:27. > :00:37.the 13`mile course around the city centre anyway. Danny Carpenter

:00:38. > :00:41.reports. Booth is the moment race officials

:00:42. > :00:50.decided the event could not go ahead. And this is how news was

:00:51. > :00:58.broken to the runners. The race today is cancelled. The unexpected

:00:59. > :01:06.reaction was this. Deliberate defiance by those on the front. For

:01:07. > :01:11.everybody else, it was confusion. People were saying, it's been

:01:12. > :01:17.cancelled. But we were running it. Some of the people nearer the back

:01:18. > :01:22.didn't know it had been cancelled. They just followed everybody else.

:01:23. > :01:27.We thought it was a mess, there was no information about why it was

:01:28. > :01:33.delayed. And then everybody went. For reasons which are unknown, the

:01:34. > :01:38.water suppliers did not show up. For safety reasons, it was decided to

:01:39. > :01:45.pull the plug. But the spirit of the city succeeded where the suppliers

:01:46. > :01:52.failed. Shops were handing out water in cups. It was fantastic. Even as

:01:53. > :01:59.the runners were returning, apologetic race organisers promised

:02:00. > :02:03.they would get it right next time. It was very unfortunate. We will

:02:04. > :02:06.have a good look at it and find out what went wrong. Obviously, we

:02:07. > :02:16.cannot do that this afternoon. We will learn. So the race that was not

:02:17. > :02:20.a race was run after all. And maybe it is the one that people will

:02:21. > :02:25.remember the most, even if it is not for the right reasons.

:02:26. > :02:28.In other news, a controversial Yorkshire`based MEP, who was elected

:02:29. > :02:31.as a member of the British National Party, has announced he's stepping

:02:32. > :02:34.down at next month's European elections. Five years ago, Andrew

:02:35. > :02:37.Brons became the first BNP politician to represent the region

:02:38. > :02:40.in Europe. He later left the party after falling out with its leader

:02:41. > :02:52.Nick Griffin, and formed a new political group called the British

:02:53. > :02:55.Democratic Party. If you look at the attendance figures, my attendance is

:02:56. > :03:03.one of the highest, and the number of speeches, I think I'm about 11

:03:04. > :03:07.out of the 73 UK MEPs. You only need to see the people he surrounds

:03:08. > :03:11.himself with. They are the politics of hate and division.

:03:12. > :03:14.North Yorkshire Police today launched a new campaign aimed at

:03:15. > :03:17.cutting biker deaths on the county's roads. A road show in the centre of

:03:18. > :03:21.Helmsley highlighted the dangers posed to those speeding on two

:03:22. > :03:27.wheels ` including talks from an officer who'd lost her father in a

:03:28. > :03:32.crash. He was out riding with his friends. Please cite `` Drive safe.

:03:33. > :03:39.I don't want anything else to go through what I went through.

:03:40. > :03:48.Yorkshire roads are beautiful but there are a lot of hazards that

:03:49. > :03:52.there aren't on tracks. In Rugby League, Huddersfield Giants

:03:53. > :03:55.were just edged out by St Helens in the fourth round of the Challenge

:03:56. > :03:59.Cup. The Giants established a 16`8 lead thanks to two tries from Shaun

:04:00. > :04:03.Lunt and one from Joe Wardle. But Huddersfield was reduced to 12 men

:04:04. > :04:06.when Brett Ferres was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Jonny Lomax, and

:04:07. > :04:13.Saints squeezed home by 17 points to 16.

:04:14. > :04:16.Well, the fifth round draw sees Super League leaders St Helens

:04:17. > :04:18.travel to third`placed Leeds Rhinos. There's another all`Super League tie

:04:19. > :04:22.between Bradford Bulls and Catalan Dragons. And Hunslet Hawks travel to

:04:23. > :04:28.Wigan, who are two leagues above them.

:04:29. > :04:31.Leeds's Jonny Brownlee finished second in the opening event of the

:04:32. > :04:34.Triathlon World Series. He couldn't match world champion Havier Gomez in

:04:35. > :04:38.the race in Auckland. Brownlee admits he lacked a bit of sharpness,

:04:39. > :04:43.but he's aiming to be fully fit for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

:04:44. > :04:51.this summer. He absolutely killed me. In the last half, just well done

:04:52. > :04:53.to him. He's obviously in great shape.

:04:54. > :04:56.And congratulations to Leeds powerlifter Ali Jawad, whom we

:04:57. > :04:58.featured on Friday's Look North preparing for the international

:04:59. > :05:01.Paralympic Committee's World Championships in Dubai. Ali didn't

:05:02. > :05:02.just win the gold medal in this afternoon's competition ` he broke

:05:03. > :05:14.the world record as well. Some further rain in the forecast to

:05:15. > :05:20.start working week. That continues overnight. It will be fairly light

:05:21. > :05:26.patchy, clear link `` clearing later. Temperatures overnight are

:05:27. > :05:31.still miles, dropping to nine or 10 Celsius. That rain is with all of us

:05:32. > :05:36.first thing on Monday. It will be heavy at times and persistent before

:05:37. > :05:42.clearing in the afternoon. Temperatures up to around 13 or 14

:05:43. > :05:47.degrees. Once that rain clears on Monday there are signs things will

:05:48. > :05:52.turn a bit more settled. Tuesday looks to be decent. We will see some

:05:53. > :05:53.Sunny spells with the wind turning a bit lighter. Still miles with highs

:05:54. > :06:11.of 13 degrees. Good evening, after a fairly mild

:06:12. > :06:16.weekend, a fresher week in store for the week ahead. Moreshine at times

:06:17. > :06:20.but not a huge amount tomorrow because that's shaping up to be a

:06:21. > :06:23.wet day for just about all of us. The rain developing through the

:06:24. > :06:27.night and it is still wet at the moment in southern counties. Watch

:06:28. > :06:32.how the rain becomes more extensive and heavier with a strengthening

:06:33. > :06:37.breeze. For northern England and Northern Ireland, a colder feel to

:06:38. > :06:44.the night. In northern Scotland, there will be temperatures in

:06:45. > :06:48.sheltered spots. A mild start for Monday. If you escape through the

:06:49. > :06:52.morning commute dry, you will one of the few. Heavy bursts around. So

:06:53. > :06:57.expect surface water and spray on faster routes if you are travelling

:06:58. > :07:03.in by car. The winds are a feature in the south. After a dry start for

:07:04. > :07:09.the early rises, for southern Scotland and east of northern, rain

:07:10. > :07:13.will spread in. Many western areas will stay dry as will the north of

:07:14. > :07:14.Scotland. The rest of Scotland
