:00:00. > :00:00.calls for UN peacekeepers to be sent in. That's all from the

:00:07. > :00:12.Good evening. Welcome to Monday's Look North. On the programme

:00:13. > :00:15.tonight: Has Kellingley Colliery only got hours left? After miners

:00:16. > :00:19.reject a ?10 million loan, they're told the pit could close in 48

:00:20. > :00:21.hours. They've called for more talks with the owners, UK Coal.

:00:22. > :00:24.Also tonight: We've been given exclusive access to the new

:00:25. > :00:34.technology installed at Sheffield's Woodbourn Road athletics track.

:00:35. > :00:38.This giant sea bird is a picky eater. Find out later if she can be

:00:39. > :00:42.tempted by a takeaway. And so near, but so far for the Blades in their

:00:43. > :00:49.eight` goal FA Cup thriller at Wembley. We'll have all the action

:00:50. > :00:53.and reaction. With high pressure dominating, we will have some fine

:00:54. > :01:05.weather this week. I will be back later with the forecast.

:01:06. > :01:07.Good evening. First tonight to claims that Kellingley Colliery

:01:08. > :01:12.could be hours from closing. Miners met last night to discuss the terms

:01:13. > :01:15.of a deal struck by UK Coal and the Government which would have kept the

:01:16. > :01:19.pit open for another 18 months, but which would still see 700 jobs go.

:01:20. > :01:22.That deal, which includes a ?10 million government loan for a

:01:23. > :01:28.managed shutdown, could only work with union support. But in a show of

:01:29. > :01:30.hands the National Union of Mineworkers rejected it. This

:01:31. > :01:34.afternoon, miners told us they're now being pressured into saying they

:01:35. > :01:44.will carry on working with the threat of redundancy hanging over

:01:45. > :01:49.them. Emma Glasbey is at Kellingley. Another very difficult day for the

:01:50. > :01:54.miners. Some of them went home earlier and tell the they are angry

:01:55. > :01:57.and still do not know what is happening. They fear by the middle

:01:58. > :02:02.of the week the pit will close and they will be out of work.

:02:03. > :02:09.Workers from the early shift heading home. They say they have been told

:02:10. > :02:15.the pitch will shut within 48 hours, unless they agreed to a managed

:02:16. > :02:20.closure `` the pit. What is the mood like? Very angry, they do not want

:02:21. > :02:26.redundancies. It is not clear what will happen? They said if we do not

:02:27. > :02:31.agree shortly they will shut us down in 48 hours, so they are putting

:02:32. > :02:37.pressure on us. We will have to wait and see. We are a band of brothers

:02:38. > :02:42.and we stick together. At a meeting last night the national new of

:02:43. > :02:48.Mineworkers rejected a government deal that would see UK Coal given a

:02:49. > :02:53.?10 million loan to manage the closure of Kellingley Colliery over

:02:54. > :02:58.18 months. I cannot see how you would have a workforce committed to

:02:59. > :03:03.a programme that will eventually put them on the dole. I cannot see

:03:04. > :03:08.anybody, who is human, who could sign up to a deal that would do

:03:09. > :03:15.that. Today there were calls for all sides to hold more talks and for the

:03:16. > :03:21.union to reconsider. I hope they will re`engaging talks and talks

:03:22. > :03:29.with their members. I imagine it is a negotiation tactic, but I would

:03:30. > :03:35.urge them to sit down and think of the best outcome. I think we have to

:03:36. > :03:41.do everything we can to find an option working with Europe, new

:03:42. > :03:45.investors, that will keep Kellingley Colliery open beyond 2015. That is

:03:46. > :03:52.what is important to communities, not just the hundreds of jobs, but

:03:53. > :03:57.the business is dependent on it. 700 jobs will be lost when the colliery

:03:58. > :04:03.closes. It seems the closure could be imminent.

:04:04. > :04:07.UK Coal confirmed further discussions will take place and they

:04:08. > :04:12.are seeking to finalise a package for an 18`month closure programme

:04:13. > :04:17.and say without it, the business is likely to enter insolvency in the

:04:18. > :04:21.coming days. I am joined by the general secretary of the union. If

:04:22. > :04:26.the managed closure happens, some could keep their jobs for up to 18

:04:27. > :04:32.months, otherwise everybody is out of work in 48 hours. Why are you not

:04:33. > :04:37.agreeing to the managed closure? The union knows there is an alternative

:04:38. > :04:41.to the package put forward by UK Coal. Other countries subsidise the

:04:42. > :04:45.coal industry is on a managed closure plan that could last 22018

:04:46. > :04:52.and British miners should be treated the same as others treat their

:04:53. > :04:57.miners. It is realistic the British Government should do it. We get 40%

:04:58. > :05:01.of energy from coal and the world price has been dropping. Over the

:05:02. > :05:04.past eight months it has dropped dramatically. I have not seen a drop

:05:05. > :05:11.in electricity bills people are paying. Do you think it will close

:05:12. > :05:18.this week? I understand some have lost their jobs already? 67 men were

:05:19. > :05:25.laid off on Friday and this does not protect them. We had young lads who

:05:26. > :05:29.were taken on and the theory is they could be the first to finish with no

:05:30. > :05:34.state redundancy because they have worked less than two years. UK Coal

:05:35. > :05:39.are threatening they could put the company insolvent in the next 48

:05:40. > :05:44.hours if they do not get government finance to finance their 18`month

:05:45. > :05:48.closure plan. A lot is happening here over the next couple of days

:05:49. > :05:53.and we will bring you the latest as it happens.

:05:54. > :05:56.A slaughterhouse owner from Todmorden and his site manager have

:05:57. > :05:59.appeared in court today to face charges in connection with the horse

:06:00. > :06:02.meat scandal. Peter Boddy and David Moss are accused of failing to keep

:06:03. > :06:05.proper paperwork relating to the sale of horse meat. They're the

:06:06. > :06:08.first prosecutions since last year's revelations about horse meat

:06:09. > :06:15.entering the human food chain. Joe Inwood was at the hearing at

:06:16. > :06:21.Westminster Magistrates' Court. It was a relatively brief appearance

:06:22. > :06:24.for Peter Boddy and David Moss. Both spoke only to confirm names, dates

:06:25. > :06:30.of birth and addresses. Peter Boddy runs and abattoir and is charged

:06:31. > :06:35.with failing to keep paperwork one step forward, one step back

:06:36. > :06:38.documentation, in relation to the selling of horses slaughtered at his

:06:39. > :06:44.abattoir. You can see him entering court here. David Moss is charged

:06:45. > :06:48.with the same offence and also one of fraud, the prosecution alleging

:06:49. > :06:56.he altered an invoice relating to the sale of Hall's meat. It comes

:06:57. > :07:00.after the scandal last year. A snap investigation found the alleged

:07:01. > :07:05.irregularities. It should be said neither man is charged with

:07:06. > :07:11.fraudulently selling horse meat. The district judge said the matter must

:07:12. > :07:14.be heard at a Crown Court after he was not entered on their behalf.

:07:15. > :07:20.They will appear on the 28th of April next.

:07:21. > :07:24.Later on Look North: We're joined by the world powerlifting champion from

:07:25. > :07:27.Leeds. Ali Jawad was born with no legs and suffers from Crohn's

:07:28. > :07:31.disease. Last week he held off all competition in Dubai.

:07:32. > :07:34.More news now and a murder investigation has been launched in

:07:35. > :07:38.Leeds after a 62`year`old woman was found with knife wounds to her chest

:07:39. > :07:42.and back. Police were called to a property in Rawdon late last night,

:07:43. > :07:46.where they found the body of a dead woman. They're yet to carry out a

:07:47. > :07:49.postmortem and the victim hasn't been named. A 65``year`old man has

:07:50. > :07:51.been arrested on suspicion of murder.

:07:52. > :07:55.Police searching for a Bradford University student, who went missing

:07:56. > :07:58.in Liverpool more than six weeks ago, have recovered a body from the

:07:59. > :08:01.River Mersey. Aamir Qudeer, who's a 21``year`old first`year engineering

:08:02. > :08:04.student, was last seen on February 26th before vanishing in Liverpool.

:08:05. > :08:12.A formal identification of the body is due to take place today.

:08:13. > :08:16.GP surgeries in two parts of Yorkshire have been given a share of

:08:17. > :08:19.a ?50 million fund to make their services more accessible to

:08:20. > :08:21.patients. The money is going to practices in west Wakefield, and in

:08:22. > :08:24.Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby. It'll be spent on things like longer

:08:25. > :08:36.opening hours, weekend appointments and consultations over the internet.

:08:37. > :08:42.As patients, we do not just get sick of Monday to Friday, nine to five,

:08:43. > :08:46.we want to see family doctors, but GPs are also under pressure. The

:08:47. > :08:52.great thing about what they are doing at this surgery is to find new

:08:53. > :08:56.ways for patients to quickly get access to help they need.

:08:57. > :08:59.Drivers in the centre of York will have noticed something a bit

:09:00. > :09:02.different today. It's the first weekday since last August that

:09:03. > :09:05.Lendal Bridge has been fully open to all traffic. On Saturday the

:09:06. > :09:08.controversial ban was lifted. Over 57,000 fines have been given out.

:09:09. > :09:12.The council insists the closure was lawful but admits feedback was

:09:13. > :09:17.overwhelmingly negative. It's 30 years today since the Jorvik

:09:18. > :09:19.Viking Centre opened in York. It was built on the site of an

:09:20. > :09:22.archaeological dig, recreating a Viking city of 1,000 years ago. A

:09:23. > :09:33.special birthday celebration has taken place in Coppergate. I still

:09:34. > :09:37.have one of the coins from the early 1990s from the museum, stamped it

:09:38. > :09:41.myself. Well done. Look North has been given exclusive

:09:42. > :09:44.access to technology that will be installed at Sheffield's Woodbourn

:09:45. > :09:47.Road athletics track. A quarter of a million pounds will be spent there

:09:48. > :09:51.so athletes and the public can get the most of out their training.

:09:52. > :09:54.Since the Don Valley Stadium was demolished it has become the city's

:09:55. > :10:00.main athletics track. James Vincent was given a first look at the

:10:01. > :10:07.technology they'll use. Six months after it reopened, major

:10:08. > :10:11.investment has started at the Don Valley Stadium's replacement.

:10:12. > :10:16.Sheffield Hallam University, the council and other sponsors are

:10:17. > :10:21.spending a quarter of ?1 million on technologies that helped athletes at

:10:22. > :10:26.London 2012. I am with Steve from the University. We have two cameras

:10:27. > :10:33.that recorded the performance. What do they tell you? The first is

:10:34. > :10:37.really an immediate feedback system that the athlete and the coach can

:10:38. > :10:45.use to look at technique. This camera is a thermal imaging camera,

:10:46. > :10:49.and that gives information about tracking, we can track the athlete

:10:50. > :10:53.easier and get more information about temperature. We have done a

:10:54. > :11:00.lot of work with UK sport and we are using these systems to help elite

:11:01. > :11:05.athletes. It is specifically for the Commonwealth Games, to improve

:11:06. > :11:12.performance. The stadium is still being demolished. When the council

:11:13. > :11:16.closed it in September last year, Woodbourn Road was reopened. It has

:11:17. > :11:21.ground to make up as the main athletics venue in Sheffield. This

:11:22. > :11:25.technology is crucial because I can look at my technique in slow motion

:11:26. > :11:31.and see details of things I need to work on at this level, they are the

:11:32. > :11:36.things you are looking for. It is not just for elite athletes. The

:11:37. > :11:41.university wants people to get on track and use it for themselves. The

:11:42. > :11:47.technology will be installed within a year. It is hoped it will be

:11:48. > :11:52.elsewhere in Sheffield facilities in the future, helping to maintain the

:11:53. > :11:59.city's image as a city of sport. I would like to have seen him run

:12:00. > :12:08.the hundred yards. Before seven o'clock: Sheffield United had a big

:12:09. > :12:11.day at Wembley in the FA cup semi final against Hull. The Blades fans

:12:12. > :12:16.out`sang and outnumbered the Tigers' supporters, but ultimately they were

:12:17. > :12:25.outplayed. And find out why Yorkshire's fussiest customer is

:12:26. > :12:32.eagerly awaiting this takeaway. I can smell those fish and chips from

:12:33. > :12:38.here. Not quite. Now for the sport. Fantastic at Wembley yesterday.

:12:39. > :12:43.It was incredible occasion. Sheffield United, beating two

:12:44. > :12:51.Premier League sides to get them. Watching the game, you did not see

:12:52. > :13:03.the teams. They outnumbered them as you said.

:13:04. > :13:05.What struck me when Hull scored the fifth goal, Sheffield United fans

:13:06. > :13:13.applauded because they realised their side had given everything. We

:13:14. > :13:18.can walk out of Wembley with heads held high, even though disappointed.

:13:19. > :13:29.Everybody at Sheffield United did just that. I am nervous. I'm get

:13:30. > :13:37.back `` getting married next week and I'm more nervous. Earlier, they

:13:38. > :13:44.walked into the stadium proud. And atmosphere to savour with an all

:13:45. > :13:48.Yorkshire semifinal and a first half dominated by Sheffield United. Look

:13:49. > :13:55.at this for a finish. A beautiful cross. Jose Baxter. And then Yannick

:13:56. > :14:02.Sagbo just before half`time. Immediately, Sheffield regained the

:14:03. > :14:06.lead. Stefan Scougall, what game he had. The worst thing happened at the

:14:07. > :14:12.start of the second half of the Blades. Matt Fryatt levels. No

:14:13. > :14:16.doubting the quality of this goal with Tom Huddlestone, man of the

:14:17. > :14:20.match, making it three ` two. Stephen Quinn gets the fourth goal.

:14:21. > :14:25.He loves Sheffield United with a passion, and he did not want to

:14:26. > :14:35.celebrate. Jamie Murphy made it 4`3. And then the final act, David

:14:36. > :14:39.Meyler rounding off the 5`3 win. Nothing but pride in defeat Nigel

:14:40. > :14:45.Clough. Emotionally shattered. Boys gave everything. That is what people

:14:46. > :14:53.asked of us. Disappointed right now. That is what happens at

:14:54. > :14:58.Wembley. I have mixed emotions. The question was posed to me during the

:14:59. > :15:02.week, would I celebrate? I said I had too much respect for a big club.

:15:03. > :15:08.They help me grow as a player and looked after me and my family and it

:15:09. > :15:12.just had to happen, it was written in the stars. Mixed emotions but I

:15:13. > :15:18.am happy to have scored at Wembley and get to the final. The fans were

:15:19. > :15:23.brilliant. They made it the spectacle it was. The players made

:15:24. > :15:29.the game, we made it interesting, I would have preferred a boring 1`0

:15:30. > :15:36.for ourselves. The fans were brilliant. For every fan heading

:15:37. > :15:40.back north, commiserations, but the confidence the Blades have next

:15:41. > :15:47.season, there is no doubt we have a team that will make the grade. And

:15:48. > :15:53.take us forward to question. First half, we were better than them. They

:15:54. > :15:58.came out, they attacked. They put 100% into the game. But we had a

:15:59. > :16:06.good day, we enjoyed it, and everybody is happy. Almost a whole

:16:07. > :16:09.piece without a cliche. Clearly, this bond between chairman and

:16:10. > :16:22.manager is helping the buzz around the club. At Hillsborough, they

:16:23. > :16:26.marched 25`year since 96 fans died during the semifinal between

:16:27. > :16:30.Nottingham Forest and Liverpool. Tomorrow will mark 25 years to the

:16:31. > :16:40.days since Hillsborough. There was no more poignant place to mark the

:16:41. > :16:44.anniversary. Wreaths Were laid before the minute's silence.

:16:45. > :16:50.Blackburn took the lead and Sheffield Wednesday equalised. But

:16:51. > :16:54.they conceded twice more before a dramatic comeback. Two second`half

:16:55. > :16:59.goals rescued a point of Sheffield Wednesday. Finishing three ` three.

:17:00. > :17:04.Leeds United just below them having picked up their first win after five

:17:05. > :17:08.straight defeats. Murphy the outstanding performer with both

:17:09. > :17:13.goals to earn a 2`0 win against Blackpool. Chesterfield's promotion

:17:14. > :17:24.ambitions remains in their own hands, they beat Hartlepool, 2`1.

:17:25. > :17:28.They have a 5`point cushion in the third automatic promotion spot. York

:17:29. > :17:34.City's play`off ambitions took a knock. The penalty was cancelled out

:17:35. > :17:38.by a last`minute equaliser from Accrington. York are one point

:17:39. > :17:51.behind the final play`off spot. You can see the goals from the weekend

:17:52. > :17:54.on Lake the channel tonight. The Bradford Bulls have confirmed

:17:55. > :17:56.they'll appeal against their six`point deduction for going into

:17:57. > :17:58.administration. The club claims the administration happened in

:17:59. > :18:01.circumstances that were unforeseeable and unavoidable. No

:18:02. > :18:03.date has been set for the hearing. The Leeds Rhinos prop, Jamie

:18:04. > :18:07.Peacock, made his 500th career appearance on Friday. He's

:18:08. > :18:10.considered by many to be one of the best players the sport has ever

:18:11. > :18:14.produced. He managed to score in the 42`6 win over the Wakefield

:18:15. > :18:15.Wildcats. And he's one of the guests on tonight's Super League Show.

:18:16. > :18:18.Wildcats. And he's one of the guests on You can see all the action from

:18:19. > :18:22.the weekend's games, that's at midnight on BBC One. If that's past

:18:23. > :18:26.your bedtime it'll be on the iPlayer all week.

:18:27. > :18:29.midnight on BBC One. If that's past your bedtime it'll be On to cricket,

:18:30. > :18:30.and Yorkshire have been in action during day two of their season

:18:31. > :18:32.opener in the County Championship. your bedtime it'll be On to cricket,

:18:33. > :18:34.and Yorkshire have been The competition favourites are facing

:18:35. > :18:37.Somerset. Adil Rashid reached his hundred before being caught behind.

:18:38. > :18:51.Yorkshire were finally bowled out for 450. Now not so long ago I met a

:18:52. > :18:55.man who was hoping to become a world powerlifting champion. And now he

:18:56. > :18:58.has. Ali Jawad was born with no legs and he also suffers from Crohn's

:18:59. > :19:02.disease, but last week took the world title, and set a new World

:19:03. > :19:06.record in Dubai. So with 100 days to go to the Commonwealth Games his

:19:07. > :19:16.sights are firmly set on Glasgow. Yes, they are. I will use it as one

:19:17. > :19:21.of my main thing is the year, I am looking forward to it. When we said

:19:22. > :19:29.world champion, you said was that me? I still feel like I am dreaming.

:19:30. > :19:34.It feels really good. What was it like when you lifted that, and a

:19:35. > :19:38.world record? I could not believe it. I could not remember what

:19:39. > :19:44.happened. I cannot remember what I actually did. What was it like to

:19:45. > :19:49.get a gold medal? After the hard work I have put in, it has been

:19:50. > :19:57.incredible. I am blessed to be here now with this. When we met before,

:19:58. > :20:01.you spoke about Crohn's disease and how debilitating it had been. You

:20:02. > :20:10.have it under control. How much more do you think you can do? In my

:20:11. > :20:17.dreams, 100 kilograms. Make people realise I am one of the best. To

:20:18. > :20:24.have the gold medal, what can it do feel soft belief? It will give me

:20:25. > :20:28.confidence going forward. I think I could have done things better at the

:20:29. > :20:31.World Championships. I will see them implemented at the Commonwealth

:20:32. > :20:37.Games. The Commonwealth Games are tricky for you? For me to win a

:20:38. > :20:43.medal will be hard. They do it on a formula that means they have the

:20:44. > :20:48.light athletes together and so I will be against everybody else. I

:20:49. > :20:54.could end up listing a huge world record and coming second. You will

:20:55. > :20:58.have to be training hard. Many congratulations on getting the world

:20:59. > :21:04.title. I am delighted for you and I have little doubt there is more to

:21:05. > :21:07.come. If you have ever tried to cater for

:21:08. > :21:11.a fussy eater, then you'll sympathise with folk at the

:21:12. > :21:14.International Bird of Prey Centre in Helmsley. They're trying to tempt a

:21:15. > :21:22.sea bird to eat fish. At first Inowashi would only eat chicken. Now

:21:23. > :21:33.she's turning her beak up at that and only eating rats. So n her local

:21:34. > :21:36.fish and chip shop tempt her to try their prime cod fillets. Olivia

:21:37. > :21:40.Richwald has been to find out. At this fish and chip shop they like to

:21:41. > :21:47.go the extra mile for their fussy customers. This is a special

:21:48. > :21:51.customer. Only five. I love her to bits but she is a picky eater, but

:21:52. > :21:58.very temperamental in terms of character and does not even like
