:00:07. > :00:09.Good evening from Look North. Miners club turned out to be a stalemate.

:00:10. > :00:11.Good evening from Look North. Miners at Kellingley Colliery have voted

:00:12. > :00:17.overwhelmingly to accept a managed closure of the pit. UK Coal sent a

:00:18. > :00:21.postal ballot to more than 700 miners to seek their views. Nearly

:00:22. > :00:26.80% of them voted in favour of closing the pit. The deal will see

:00:27. > :00:30.gradual job losses over an 18`month period, with the site finally

:00:31. > :00:35.closing in December 2015. Spencer Stokes reports.

:00:36. > :00:40.For many miners here at Kellingley, it didn't seem like much of a

:00:41. > :00:44.choice. Work to help shut the pit down over 18 months ` or face it

:00:45. > :00:47.closing in a matter of weeks. Today, the results of the ballot were

:00:48. > :00:53.announced with nearly 80% choosing what for miners is the lesser of two

:00:54. > :00:57.evils ` a gradual rundown. The decision was welcomed by UK Coal.

:00:58. > :01:00.Two options that everybody faced here and across the business were

:01:01. > :01:05.either close in 18 months or close immediately. By having the 18`month

:01:06. > :01:08.option we will now be able to make sure our suppliers are paid,

:01:09. > :01:14.redundancies are paid, so a much better option. Some of the miners

:01:15. > :01:18.will now work until December 2015. Others could lose their jobs before.

:01:19. > :01:22.But the NUM hope the economic circumstances change and by the end

:01:23. > :01:28.of next year a way is found to keep this deep mine operating. While

:01:29. > :01:31.Kellingley and Thoresby are open there is hope that common sense will

:01:32. > :01:34.prevail and the government will decide to have a constructive

:01:35. > :01:37.dialogue with the unions, with the employers, and they will see that

:01:38. > :01:42.there is common sense for keeping Kellingley and Thoresby open. The

:01:43. > :01:46.country needs coal to generate an affordable, secure supply of energy

:01:47. > :01:51.and that will be the case for many years to come. UK Coal says it will

:01:52. > :01:54.now move on to the legal stage of closing Kellingley. That could be

:01:55. > :02:02.signed off within the next two weeks.

:02:03. > :02:06.The local and European elections are being held next month, and over the

:02:07. > :02:09.next few weeks we'll be speaking to the party leaders. Today the UK

:02:10. > :02:12.Independence Party's leader Nigel Farage was in Sheffield after

:02:13. > :02:17.choosing it as the venue for his national campaign launch. Our

:02:18. > :02:27.political editor Len Tingle was at the launch, and he joins us now. Why

:02:28. > :02:31.did he choose Sheffield? This was not by accident. It is a traditional

:02:32. > :02:37.Labour heartland and the party has to show it is right or centre, anti

:02:38. > :02:40.immigration policies are going to attract more than disaffected

:02:41. > :02:44.Tories. It reckons it can do that in South Yorkshire, based on two

:02:45. > :02:49.by`elections in which it came second in both. It was an issue that I put

:02:50. > :02:52.a Nigel Farage this afternoon. We will transform and change the

:02:53. > :02:54.whole national debate in this country, particularly here in

:02:55. > :02:58.Yorkshire. Let's remember the majority of seats in Westminster

:02:59. > :03:01.here are held by Labour MPs. At the moment Miliband is holding a

:03:02. > :03:05.position where he is saying if he becomes prime minister he won't give

:03:06. > :03:11.us a referendum and we're going to put maximum pressure on Labour in

:03:12. > :03:15.this part of the world. UKIP is traditionally seen as right of

:03:16. > :03:19.centre, anti`immigration. It has to broaden its appeal, hasn't it? It

:03:20. > :03:23.has to clean up its act and make sure there are not outspoken views

:03:24. > :03:28.put forward. Godfrey Bloom has been its one elected member here in

:03:29. > :03:31.Yorkshire for the last ten years. He has parted company with the parties

:03:32. > :03:36.ably because he went one step too far. He started talking about Bongo

:03:37. > :03:41.Bongo Land and things like that, so he had to go. You saw in there he

:03:42. > :03:45.reacted rather badly when he was confronted by a journalist on that,

:03:46. > :03:49.so that was really the end of him. Something I put a Nigel Farage. It

:03:50. > :03:53.was on unfortunate thing. I was very sorry that happened, but

:03:54. > :03:57.that's life, we move on. We've got Jane Collins at the top of the list,

:03:58. > :04:00.who first became known in the Barnsley by`election where from

:04:01. > :04:03.nowhere she came second. We've got an Asian businessman Amjad Bashir

:04:04. > :04:06.second. A guy that grew up in Bradford, has been successful in

:04:07. > :04:09.life and is very passionate about our cause. I think we are putting

:04:10. > :04:15.forward a good team of people. There was another reason for launching in

:04:16. > :04:18.South Yorkshire and that was by looking at somebody in the crowd,

:04:19. > :04:23.Paul Sykes, the multimillionaire Barnsley businessman, who has put

:04:24. > :04:28.his millions behind UKIP, largely he has paid for this national car ``

:04:29. > :04:33.this national poster campaign. He made his money at Meadowhall, so it

:04:34. > :04:39.is fitting they launched their campaign in Sheffield.

:04:40. > :04:43.Care workers in Doncaster are to stage a further two`week strike in a

:04:44. > :04:47.row over pay and conditions. Unison members will walk out in May for 14

:04:48. > :04:50.days after talks ended without an agreement being reached. It's the

:04:51. > :04:54.latest in a series of strikes. The workers claim their employer, Care

:04:55. > :04:57.UK, wants to cut wages by up to ?7,000 a year. Care UK says it's

:04:58. > :05:00.pledged to protect the basic levels of pay.

:05:01. > :05:04.With just over a couple of months to go until the Tour de France starts

:05:05. > :05:07.here in Yorkshire, some of the world's best cyclists have been

:05:08. > :05:11.getting a taste of the route. One of teams to watch is Giant`Shimano.

:05:12. > :05:17.Their riders have been cycling the second stage today ` and seemed

:05:18. > :05:21.rather worried by what they saw. I think the roads are in some parts

:05:22. > :05:29.very dangerous for a peloton of the Tour de France. On the descent. I

:05:30. > :05:37.mean, just when you ride through the more lonely roads in the middle of

:05:38. > :05:41.nowhere. I mean, they are very narrow and very small with stone

:05:42. > :05:44.walls on both sides. If a very nervous Tour de France peloton

:05:45. > :05:54.fighting for the yellow jersey passes by there, then there can be

:05:55. > :05:58.very dangerous situations. Penge reach `` very dangerous on a

:05:59. > :06:02.tandem, I tell you. Keighley, they haven't been through there yet. I

:06:03. > :06:09.wonder if they will go on my alternative route through Keighley.

:06:10. > :06:11.The scenic route! Lovely weather for the training today. Lets hope it is

:06:12. > :06:17.better in July. the training today. Lets hope it is

:06:18. > :06:19.It looks pretty good for the credit against Northamptonshire tomorrow. A

:06:20. > :06:24.great start in the morning but the sun will break through the clouds

:06:25. > :06:28.and temperatures very respectable, around 16 or 17 degrees. This was a

:06:29. > :06:31.front will hold off probably until tomorrow evening and tomorrow

:06:32. > :06:37.night. An isolated heavy shower tomorrow afternoon but most of us

:06:38. > :06:42.will be fine. It is a bit grotty out there low cloud, one or two showers

:06:43. > :06:46.drifting up from the south. We will see lowest temperatures at about

:06:47. > :06:53.eight or nine degrees Celsius. A slow start on Wednesday morning, the

:06:54. > :06:59.odd light shower clearing. Otherwise drought. `` otherwise dry. The mist

:07:00. > :07:05.will break up and the sun will come out and the afternoon is pleasant,

:07:06. > :07:08.fine, bright and warm. As we get up to about 16 Celsius that might be

:07:09. > :07:15.the trigger for isolated but heavy showers. Very hit and miss. The

:07:16. > :07:19.emphasis on dry weather. Top temperatures 16 or 17 Celsius. It

:07:20. > :07:23.does turn wet on Wednesday night. Thursday, a cloudy, damp start.

:07:24. > :07:29.Patchy rain will clear by the middle of the day and Friday, foggy at

:07:30. > :07:31.start, brighter later. The weekend is unsettled. I will leave you with

:07:32. > :07:34.the summary of is unsettled. I will leave you with

:07:35. > :07:41.is not looking too bad. That's weather front.

:07:42. > :07:46.It is never too early to think about next weekend and I will be doing

:07:47. > :07:51.that in a couple of minutes. But we have a sizeable chunk of this

:07:52. > :07:56.week's whether to go first. There are more showers, but there will be

:07:57. > :08:02.spells of warm sunshine around as well, so there will be no frost at

:08:03. > :08:05.night. Bands of showers across the western side of the UK and

:08:06. > :08:11.Scotland's passing through overnight. Another heavy burst

:08:12. > :08:18.coming into the south-west later on in the night. This rain band slowly

:08:19. > :08:23.comes in from the South West and this is how Wednesday starts at

:08:24. > :08:29.eight o'clock in the morning. It will turn out to be a warmer day in

:08:30. > :08:34.Scotland, but misty low cloud in the North East and that will impact on

:08:35. > :08:36.the temperature. There will be a few bright spells punching through this

:08:37. > :08:37.cloud and a sunny day
