:00:00. > :00:09.Good evening from Look North. Much more on the BBC News channel
:00:10. > :00:12.Good evening from Look North. Football fans at Valley Parade have
:00:13. > :00:15.this afternoon paid tribute to the surgeon who treated hundreds of
:00:16. > :00:21.burns victims after the devastating fire there back in 1985 in which 56
:00:22. > :00:27.people died. Professor David Sharpe went on to create a world`renowned
:00:28. > :00:32.burns research unit in the city. But now he is retiring. Heidi Tomlinson
:00:33. > :00:36.reports. A proud moment for a modest man.
:00:37. > :00:42.Plastic surgeon David Sharpe wanted to retire quietly but the Bantams
:00:43. > :00:46.weren't having any of it. Because he is part of their history. 29 years
:00:47. > :00:53.ago, a fire started under the football club's main stand. It took
:00:54. > :00:56.the lives of 56 people and injured hundreds more. Prof Sharpe led the
:00:57. > :01:01.medical team for those burns victims.
:01:02. > :01:04.10% of the plastic surgeons in the UK turned up to help, completely
:01:05. > :01:08.off`the`cuff, and that meant we could organise it as a proper series
:01:09. > :01:15.of theatres going with four teams of plastic surgeons per patient. It was
:01:16. > :01:19.easy and I had all the credit which I don't deserve.
:01:20. > :01:23.Matthew Wildman disagrees. One of the last fans to escape, his burns
:01:24. > :01:26.were extensive. At Bradford Royal Infirmary, Prof Sharpe invented new
:01:27. > :01:31.healing techniques to cope with the influx of patients. Soon after he
:01:32. > :01:39.established Bradford Burns Research Unit, now respected worldwide.
:01:40. > :01:43.He had to experiment, he had to be for ever inventing new ideas to cope
:01:44. > :01:47.with so much of us all at the same time, not just for me but for other
:01:48. > :01:50.people. From my perspective, everything he did worked and they
:01:51. > :01:55.put me in such a great position afterwards to let me get on with my
:01:56. > :01:59.life. A fitting tribute for a man whose
:02:00. > :02:07.skill and innovation helped this club through its darkest day.
:02:08. > :02:11.Football now. It's been decision day for some of our clubs. Starting in
:02:12. > :02:15.the Championship, it's not good news about Barnsley. They've been
:02:16. > :02:18.relegated and will be playing in the third tier of football next season
:02:19. > :02:22.after losing 3`1 at Middlesbrough. Doncaster also lost 3`1 at home to
:02:23. > :02:26.Reading meaning Rovers are just one place above the drop zone.
:02:27. > :02:30.Elsewhere, a good result for Leeds United, they won 3`1 away to
:02:31. > :02:33.Birmingham. But both Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday lost their
:02:34. > :02:38.home matches, ending Huddersfield Town 0`2 Leicester, and Sheffield
:02:39. > :02:42.Wednesday 1`3 Bolton. In Division One, Rotherham have a
:02:43. > :02:46.place in the play`offs despite only managing a 2`2 draw at home against
:02:47. > :02:51.the MK Dons. And Bradford City beat Crawley 2`1.
:02:52. > :02:53.It's good news as well in Division Two. York's 1`0 victory against
:02:54. > :02:57.Newport this afternoon has won them a place in the play`offs for
:02:58. > :02:59.Division One. And of course we'll have the result from that all
:03:00. > :03:03.important Chesterfield game tomorrow. The Spirites are hoping to
:03:04. > :03:07.secure automatic promotion to the First Division.
:03:08. > :03:15.And in the Conference, Halifax Kidderminster was a 5:30 kick off.
:03:16. > :03:19.And you can see all the action from today's matches on BBC One tonight.
:03:20. > :03:24.The Football League Show is right after Match of the Day at 11:50pm.
:03:25. > :03:27.Rugby league now and the Leeds Rhinos have booked their place in
:03:28. > :03:32.the Challenge Cup quarterfinals with a convincing victory against St
:03:33. > :03:36.Helens. Leeds took the lead with this try from Zak Hardaker within
:03:37. > :03:40.the first five minutes. Sinfield landed six goals during the match
:03:41. > :03:46.but it was Jamie Peacock who sealed the win with just minutes to play.
:03:47. > :03:49.It ended 32`12 to the Rhinos. Elsewhere, the Keighley Cougars beat
:03:50. > :03:54.Swinton to also go through to the quarter finals in June. And you can
:03:55. > :03:59.see all the action on the Superleague Show on BBC One on
:04:00. > :04:02.Monday night. Now, just before we get the weather
:04:03. > :04:11.forecast, spare a thought for Beefy the not so tiny spring lamb. The
:04:12. > :04:14.lamb born at Cannon Hall Farm near Barnsley weighed in at ?15 and, as
:04:15. > :04:23.you can see, compared to the usual size of lambs born at the farm, he's
:04:24. > :04:27.definitely on the beefy side. Time now for the weather.
:04:28. > :04:32.After a fairly wet day today, one or two showers will linger into the
:04:33. > :04:37.first part of this evening but they will tend to die away tonight. Quite
:04:38. > :04:43.a lot of cloud coming in from the east overnight. A fairly murky
:04:44. > :04:49.evening to come. Still fairly breezy as we get into the early hours. A
:04:50. > :04:53.generally dry start to the morning. A few showers later in the day and
:04:54. > :05:03.some of them could be heavy with hail and thunder.
:05:04. > :05:13.That said from us. We will be back tomorrow at around 650 PM.
:05:14. > :05:21.Good evening. An area of low pressure has wrapped itself around
:05:22. > :05:25.the British Isles for this weekend. There have been a number of showers
:05:26. > :05:31.today, particularly in the south-west, and there is more to
:05:32. > :05:36.come overnight. You can see this swirl of cloud, the centre of it in
:05:37. > :05:41.the south-west of England. Close to the centre of that there will be
:05:42. > :05:47.some strong winds in the south-west of England and some heavy showers as
:05:48. > :05:52.well. There will be some big waves along the south coast as well. The
:05:53. > :05:58.rain will affect eastern Scotland and the North East of England with
:05:59. > :06:02.low cloud and missed. The best of the brightness on Sunday will be
:06:03. > :06:06.Northern Ireland and the West of Scotland. But in the afternoon it is
:06:07. > :06:10.a different story in western Scotland with the low cloud and
:06:11. > :06:19.missed being carried through on the easterly wind. Temperature is
:06:20. > :06:20.perhaps just eight or nine degrees. Northern Ireland escapes
