:00:13. > :00:14.Anne Maquire just loved being a That's all from us.

:00:15. > :00:18.Anne Maquire just loved being a teacher. Just take a look at this.

:00:19. > :00:25.This is the school tie, and honoured, why couldn't live deal you

:00:26. > :00:29.the same fairness that you dealt us? Sign, the class of 2010. Today she

:00:30. > :00:36.was killed doing the job that came naturally to her. A 15`year`old male

:00:37. > :00:41.pupil is in custody after a fatal stabbing, arrested on suspicion of

:00:42. > :00:46.murder. This community at Corpus Christi is a very strong one. Take a

:00:47. > :00:52.look at this. This is what happened tonight. Hundreds paying respects to

:00:53. > :00:56.the life of a lady who everyone says was lovely and the brilliant

:00:57. > :01:01.teacher. Yes, of course she was a teacher, but she was more than that,

:01:02. > :01:06.she was a friend to the whole community to stop let's just hear

:01:07. > :01:09.the reaction of those who knew her. Everyone was extremely fond of her,

:01:10. > :01:13.for her dedication, her love of teaching, the fact that teaching was

:01:14. > :01:16.her vocation and she lived out her faith in the profession. She touched

:01:17. > :01:27.many people's lives for the better, I think. And people are devastated

:01:28. > :01:29.that this has happened. She was a beautiful person, she cared about

:01:30. > :01:33.everybody, she cared about people not just exam results. She genuinely

:01:34. > :01:42.did enjoy teaching. It is just shocking. Just shocking. Attacks

:01:43. > :01:48.like this in English schools are unheard`of, and this is a good

:01:49. > :01:50.school, Ofsted said that recently. For any teacher in the modern

:01:51. > :01:59.society in which we live, there are dangers. Search the Internet, and

:02:00. > :02:02.it's not difficult to find examples of violence in schools. They can be

:02:03. > :02:11.rough places. Physical violence can erupt between pupils. Assaults on

:02:12. > :02:15.teachers are less common but they are by no means rare. Although the

:02:16. > :02:18.Department of Education doesn't record violent incidents in schools,

:02:19. > :02:21.it reports the number of pupils excluded for assaulting adults. In

:02:22. > :02:26.Yorkshire and the Humber there has been a decline in recent years. In

:02:27. > :02:30.2009, 60 pupils were excluded for attacking staff. In 2010, that

:02:31. > :02:38.dropped to 50. The latest figures for 2011 show a further drop to 40.

:02:39. > :02:41.So, what is happening? Are schools seeing less violence or fewer

:02:42. > :02:45.exclusions for violence? Patrick Murphy is from the National Union of

:02:46. > :02:52.Teachers in Leeds and he says this level of violence is highly unusual.

:02:53. > :02:55.The death of a teacher in service, and work, this is very rare,

:02:56. > :03:00.fortunately. There has only been three in recent years. Even violence

:03:01. > :03:05.against teachers is extremely rare. Serious violence, with weapons, is

:03:06. > :03:12.extremely rare. Escalating violence in American schools has led to metal

:03:13. > :03:15.detectors being installed. In this country, schools are permitted to

:03:16. > :03:19.use metal detectors, and some do. Others, like this school, welcome

:03:20. > :03:24.police officers on patrol as a way of making pupils feeing safe. Should

:03:25. > :03:27.more schools adopt these practices? Local MP Hilary Benn cautions

:03:28. > :03:31.against a knee jerk response. We should let the police do their work

:03:32. > :03:41.to investigate what went on here. They will do a thorough job. Before

:03:42. > :03:43.we draw wider conclusions. The school will now inevitably be

:03:44. > :03:46.subject to intense scrutiny. Whether this incident is indicative of a

:03:47. > :03:58.wider problem will need careful analysis. I was there when the first

:03:59. > :04:05.floral tributes were made during the afternoon. Look at them now, almost

:04:06. > :04:10.40 yards, three or four D, and this one sums up what many people are

:04:11. > :04:13.thinking tonight. It says, to Mrs M, you registration to so many and a

:04:14. > :04:23.fantastic teacher, even after 30 years, my good friend. The class of

:04:24. > :04:34.1983`86. Anderson, heaven has gained an angel `` and this one, heaven has

:04:35. > :04:42.gained an angel, Mr I so many. `` missed by so many. BBC Newsnight

:04:43. > :04:45.will have more on this story and the dangers facing teachers on BBC Two.

:04:46. > :04:48.Our other main story tonight ` three generations of one family `

:04:49. > :04:52.including a nine`week`old baby girl and her two young brothers ` have

:04:53. > :04:55.been killed in a house fire in Sheffield. The blaze in the Sharrow

:04:56. > :04:58.area began shortly after midnight. Our reporter Ian White has more.

:04:59. > :05:01.Neighbours laid floral tributes at the scene of the fire that has

:05:02. > :05:03.claimed the lives of three generations of one family. While

:05:04. > :05:06.forensics officers from South Yorkshire Police examined inside the

:05:07. > :05:10.house, a team of officers carried out a search of the road, looking

:05:11. > :05:13.for anything that could explain what happened. The fire broke out after

:05:14. > :05:17.midnight and there was little anybody could do to save the

:05:18. > :05:21.victims. The 54``year`old grandmother had tried to rescue her

:05:22. > :05:24.family but her efforts were in vain and cost her her own life. A

:05:25. > :05:32.20`year`old woman died, as did an nine`year old boy, and his

:05:33. > :05:38.seven`year`old brother. A nine`week`old baby girl, so young

:05:39. > :05:42.her parents hadn't given her a name. Everybody is shocked and devastated,

:05:43. > :05:46.in a state of disbelief, that, in a matter of a few minutes, three

:05:47. > :05:54.generations, five people, have just perished. It is extremely difficult

:05:55. > :06:01.for the families. They are in a state of mourning. The children's

:06:02. > :06:06.mother had been in the house but managed to get out, their father,

:06:07. > :06:10.taxi driver was at work. 25 firefighters found themselves

:06:11. > :06:14.dealing with a terrible situation. We were aware that there were family

:06:15. > :06:19.members in the premises. They went in wearing breathing apparatus to

:06:20. > :06:23.enable them to breed in hot and smoky environments. And

:06:24. > :06:29.unfortunately they did find five casualties in the property. This

:06:30. > :06:32.evening, a team of fire investigators arrived at the scene

:06:33. > :06:43.to help the police find out what happened. Paul is here with the

:06:44. > :06:49.weather. It has been a great start in many places, away from the coast.

:06:50. > :06:53.This weather will bring in brain, Thursday could be particularly wet,

:06:54. > :06:58.but a promising outlook for the bank holiday weekend.

:06:59. > :07:06.That low cloud extending inland. We see temperatures down to around

:07:07. > :07:10.seven Celsius. It will be great on Tuesday morning. That mist and fog

:07:11. > :07:17.will break up, to bring some nice sunny spells for Tuesday afternoon,

:07:18. > :07:22.but the coast, prone to further low cloud pushing in from the North Sea.

:07:23. > :07:27.Quite warm for late April, 17 Celsius. A similar forecast

:07:28. > :07:32.Wednesday, with a few showers, but first they will turn particularly

:07:33. > :07:37.wet. I will leave you with summary, and then the national weather.

:07:38. > :07:43.holiday weekend. Hello, I am going to throw some

:07:44. > :07:46.numbers at you first of all. 22 Celsius was the temperature recorded

:07:47. > :07:51.at Aviemore making it the warmest day of the year so far. At the other

:07:52. > :07:56.end of the country, this cloud has produced a lot of heavy and thundery

:07:57. > :07:57.downpours. A lot of rain falling in
