:00:10. > :00:14.She was 61, she dedicated her life to teaching at this school. Anne

:00:15. > :00:19.Maguire was stabbed to death just before 12pm. A 15`year`old male

:00:20. > :00:23.pupil is in custody. It was an event witnessed by many pupils in the

:00:24. > :00:28.middle of a class. It has devastated every person here at Corpus Christi

:00:29. > :00:32.Catholic College. Also tonight. Three generations of

:00:33. > :00:34.one family, including a nine week old baby, die in a house fire in

:00:35. > :00:37.Sheffield. And the only way is up for the

:00:38. > :00:43.Spireites after securing automatic promotion at the weekend.

:00:44. > :00:47.It turned out to be a lovely day, but what about the rest of the

:00:48. > :00:57.week? Join me for the detailed forecast.

:00:58. > :01:07.Good evening. Just take a look at these remarkable floral tributes.

:01:08. > :01:11.Two big lads a moment ago left flowers for their special teacher.

:01:12. > :01:15.We loved her, they said, she would not have harmed a fly. These have

:01:16. > :01:22.been building up over the last few hours. This street is about a mile

:01:23. > :01:26.and a half away from the centre of Leeds. It's also fair to say it is a

:01:27. > :01:31.challenging area. They call a mistake, this is a good school. The

:01:32. > :01:37.police have been quick to point out the incident, tragically, was over

:01:38. > :01:42.almost immediately. The detective superintendent spoke to the media a

:01:43. > :01:47.short while ago. Whilst the incident itself was over quickly, and no

:01:48. > :01:52.other pupils or members of staff or members of the public were

:01:53. > :01:57.threatened or injured, this has clearly been a shocking event for

:01:58. > :02:02.everybody. Indeed, this is clearly an unprecedented event in Leeds. And

:02:03. > :02:08.a shocking incident, the likes of which I've not seen in over 25 years

:02:09. > :02:11.of police service. Today's events are still sinking in for this

:02:12. > :07:26.Things this will overshadow things school and their links with it.

:07:27. > :07:31.Things this will overshadow things for a while. Our go out to the

:07:32. > :07:35.family. There is a lot be celebrated about am, and the stories we will

:07:36. > :07:40.here for a long time about her dedication, her love of teaching,

:07:41. > :07:44.her contribution to people's lives in the area. Many people we've

:07:45. > :07:51.spoken to today have so many good things to say about her. Thank you

:07:52. > :07:55.very much indeed. Let's make one thing clear. This is an excellent

:07:56. > :07:59.school. Many parents have told me they will move everything they

:08:00. > :08:04.possibly can to get their children to be educated here. Its leadership

:08:05. > :08:09.was praised, and the Ofsted report says many teachers were outstanding.

:08:10. > :08:14.In the society we live in, there are always dangers. And teachers are on

:08:15. > :08:21.the front line. But just how many weapons are used in schools? Search

:08:22. > :08:27.the Internet, and it's not difficult to find examples of violence in

:08:28. > :08:31.schools. There can be `` they can be rough places. Physical violence can

:08:32. > :08:35.erupt between pupils. Assaults are less common but they are by no means

:08:36. > :08:41.read. Although the Department of Education doesn't record violent

:08:42. > :08:45.incidents in schools, it reports the number of pupils excluded for

:08:46. > :08:50.assaulting adults. In Yorkshire and the hamburger there has been a

:08:51. > :08:56.decline in recent years. In 2009, 60 pupils were excluded for attacking

:08:57. > :09:02.style. In 2010, that dropped to 50. The latest figures for 2011 show a

:09:03. > :09:05.further drop to 40. So, what is happening? Our school seeing less

:09:06. > :09:11.violence or fewer exclusions for violence? Patrick Murphy is from the

:09:12. > :09:19.National union of teachers in Leeds and he says this level of violence

:09:20. > :09:24.is highly unusual. This is very rare, fortunately. There has only

:09:25. > :09:27.been three in recent years. Even violence against teachers is

:09:28. > :09:32.extremely rare. Serious finance, with weapons, is extremely rare.

:09:33. > :09:39.This is extremely unusual. Fortunately. And I doubt it teaches

:09:40. > :09:44.us what schools are like. Escalating violence in American schools has led

:09:45. > :09:47.to metal detectors being installed. Even primary schoolchildren now

:09:48. > :09:52.routinely searched for guns and knives. In this country, schools are

:09:53. > :09:56.permitted to use metal detectors, and some do. Others, like this

:09:57. > :10:04.school, welcome police officers on control as a way of making pupils

:10:05. > :10:09.feeing safe. Should more schools adopt these practices? Hilary Benn

:10:10. > :10:13.cautions against a knee jerk response. We should let the police

:10:14. > :10:18.do their work to investigate what went on here. They will do a

:10:19. > :10:22.thorough job. Before we draw wider conclusions. The most important

:10:23. > :10:27.thing we can do with the shock we are feeling is to support those most

:10:28. > :10:34.directly affected, and the community will do that. The school will now

:10:35. > :10:38.inevitably be subject to intense scrutiny. Whether this incident is

:10:39. > :10:49.indicative of a wider problem will need careful analysis.

:10:50. > :10:53.Two recent's son was stabbed to death aged 17. She visits schools

:10:54. > :10:57.teaching about life crime. This is the first incident of its kind in

:10:58. > :11:05.nearly 20 years, would you agree it is not a widespread problem? I

:11:06. > :11:11.wouldn't. This is an isolated incident. I'm with the family at

:11:12. > :11:14.this time. This school is regarded as a high achieving school in a

:11:15. > :11:19.tight`knit community, does that make a difference in your experience? It

:11:20. > :11:24.doesn't matter what the school is, how high it is rated, or how low.

:11:25. > :11:29.The fact of the matter is kids are taking knives into school. Cade

:11:30. > :11:38.tummy a little bit about the work you do with pupils in schools? We

:11:39. > :11:42.run an anti`knife programme. It is a very impact of programme showing the

:11:43. > :11:47.ripple effect and the consequences of carrying a gun and knife. What

:11:48. > :11:52.reaction do you get from the schools? Are you mostly welcomed?

:11:53. > :11:56.When we go into the school, we are very welcomed. I am so welcomed that

:11:57. > :12:03.we receive letters thanking me from the pupils and saying they've put

:12:04. > :12:07.the BB gun on the bin, they've told people that should they've told on

:12:08. > :12:13.people carrying knives. Have you had an issue where schools don't want to

:12:14. > :12:20.be associated with knife crime and so don't like your support? Yes,

:12:21. > :12:25.schools do actually... Most of the schools I've encountered seem to

:12:26. > :12:30.think that I don't need to go into the school because I'll be placing

:12:31. > :12:34.fear into the heads of the children, which is farcical. We are going into

:12:35. > :12:42.schools to prevent this happening and to save lives. Thank you for

:12:43. > :12:45.joining us. Our other main story tonight. Three

:12:46. > :12:49.generations of one family, including a nine week old baby girl and her

:12:50. > :12:52.two young brothers, have been killed in a house fire in Sheffield. The

:12:53. > :12:55.blaze in the Sharrow area began shortly after midnight and at its

:12:56. > :13:00.height was tackled by 20 fire`fighters. Our reporter Ian

:13:01. > :13:05.White is there. Good evening. We are very near the

:13:06. > :13:12.place, and there has been a very sombre mood here. If you take a look

:13:13. > :13:16.over my shoulder, you can see the house in question, you can see the

:13:17. > :13:20.windows have been left open. One can only imagine what the scene was like

:13:21. > :13:24.last night. Two adults and three children tragically died in this

:13:25. > :13:27.incident. In one of the most horrendous incidents you could ever

:13:28. > :13:31.imagine. Neighbours laid floral tributes at

:13:32. > :13:35.the scene of the fire that has claimed the lives of three

:13:36. > :13:37.generations of one family. While forensics officers from South

:13:38. > :13:42.Yorkshire Police examined inside the house, a team of officers carried

:13:43. > :13:46.out a search of the road, looking for anything that could explain what

:13:47. > :13:49.happened. The fire broke out after midnight and there was little

:13:50. > :13:56.anybody could do to save the victims. First thing I noticed, the

:13:57. > :14:02.victims in the building, they were in distress. I think they were

:14:03. > :14:08.crying. They were shouting for their loved ones, I think. 54`year`old

:14:09. > :14:15.grandmother had tried to rescue her family but her efforts were in vain

:14:16. > :14:18.and cost her her own life. A 20 rolled woman died, as did an

:14:19. > :14:24.nine`year old boy, and his seven`year`old brother.

:14:25. > :14:29.Nine`week`old baby girl, so young her parents hadn't given her name.

:14:30. > :14:37.Devastated. The whole community is in a sombre mood. Friends,

:14:38. > :14:41.relatives. We are all in shock. It is a tragedy beyond imagination. The

:14:42. > :14:47.children's mother had been in the house but managed to get out. Her

:14:48. > :14:51.father, a taxi driver, was at work. 25 firefighters found themselves

:14:52. > :14:55.dealing with a terrible situation. It was a challenging fire, mostly

:14:56. > :15:08.flames coming out of the property. They were where there were family in

:15:09. > :15:12.the premises, and they went in with equipment to help them breathe, but

:15:13. > :15:16.they found five casualties in the property. People living in this

:15:17. > :15:23.tight`knit community are in shock tonight. We are a very strong

:15:24. > :15:26.community. It's not just one family it is devastating for, it is the

:15:27. > :15:32.community that will feel it. This evening, a team of fire

:15:33. > :15:38.investigators arrived at the scene to help the police find out what

:15:39. > :15:41.happened. I mention the strength of feeling in the community. When this

:15:42. > :15:45.incident was happening last night, there were hundreds of people out

:15:46. > :15:49.here trying to find out what happened, everybody came out of

:15:50. > :15:52.their houses and offered their support to the grief stricken

:15:53. > :15:57.family. There has also been support today, ongoing now in the mosque,

:15:58. > :16:03.where hundreds of people have been praying for the family. One bit of

:16:04. > :16:06.work from the fire service earlier, they have got investigators who have

:16:07. > :16:12.returned here this evening. They told us that there was a smoke alarm

:16:13. > :16:16.fitted to the property, but it wasn't enough, it didn't give people

:16:17. > :16:20.enough time to do it out of the property. So, it seems like a very

:16:21. > :16:23.tragic incident. The investigations will continue.

:16:24. > :16:26.Another very tragic story tonight. Thank you.

:16:27. > :16:29.The father of Tony Bland, the young Keighley man regarded as the 96th

:16:30. > :16:32.victim of the Hillsborough Stadium disaster, has recalled today the

:16:33. > :16:36.four years of heartache his family suffered when his son was in a coma

:16:37. > :16:39.on life support. A family impact statement was read to the jury at

:16:40. > :16:43.the new Hillsborough inquests, describing Tony as a likeable boy

:16:44. > :16:53.with many friends. Our correspondent John Cundy reports from Warrington.

:16:54. > :16:58.The tribute from Tony Bland's parents, Alan and Barbara, was read

:16:59. > :17:03.by a family relative to the inquest jury. Similar statements for all the

:17:04. > :17:10.96 victims were finally `` will end tomorrow. Tony was 18 when he went

:17:11. > :17:17.to the match at Hillsborough. 22 when he was allowed to pass away.

:17:18. > :17:20.Tony Bland died in the Airedale General Hospital in Keighley in

:17:21. > :17:25.1993, almost four years after being catastrophically injured in the

:17:26. > :17:31.Hillsborough crashing on the terraces. In a landmark High Court

:17:32. > :17:40.ruling, judges agreed he could be a `` allowed to die in dignity. A

:17:41. > :17:47.likeable boy. Not very clever, but he found his level at work. We found

:17:48. > :17:56.out after he died that he was very well liked. He had a lot of friends.

:17:57. > :18:01.And, obviously, the four years he was in a coma, that was horrendous.

:18:02. > :18:08.It is all about quality of life. That is what we based it on. For

:18:09. > :18:12.Alan and Barbara, and all the families, the victim impact

:18:13. > :18:21.statements are bringing back so many sad and yet fond memories of their

:18:22. > :18:22.loved ones. Other news from around the region now.

:18:23. > :18:26.Motorists in Calderdale face reduced speed limits if councillors vote in

:18:27. > :18:28.favour of plans for slower traffic this evening. If approved,

:18:29. > :18:32.residential streets will have a blanket limit of 20mph across the

:18:33. > :18:36.Calderdale area. Campaigners for the 20 Is Plenty scheme say it'll

:18:37. > :18:40.improve safety. Opponents, including the RAC and the AA, say blanket

:18:41. > :18:46.limits are unnecessary. The change will cost half a million pounds.

:18:47. > :18:51.Mining communities can now apply for grants from a ?1 million fund for

:18:52. > :18:54.projects near former coalfields. The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is

:18:55. > :18:58.distributing grants of up to ?10,000 to community organisations and

:18:59. > :19:02.social enterprises. The grants programme was set up in 2011 to

:19:03. > :19:08.develop grass roots activities that have a positive impact on coalfields

:19:09. > :19:14.communities. Nearly 20`0,000 people have benefited so far. `` 200,000

:19:15. > :19:17.people. Now on to football, and in a

:19:18. > :19:21.dramatic weekend, we've witnessed the extremes of footballing

:19:22. > :19:24.emotions. We're going to start with the good news and our League Two

:19:25. > :19:28.sides who are on the up. Chesterfield are our first team to

:19:29. > :19:31.secure promotion and York City could follow after making sure of their

:19:32. > :19:35.place in the play`offs. Ian Bucknell reports. The full`time whistle blew

:19:36. > :19:37.for the end of the game and the start of the celebrations.

:19:38. > :19:42.Chesterfield's job this season was to win promotion back to League One.

:19:43. > :19:47.After a 2`0 win at Burton, they've got the job done. I'm so delighted

:19:48. > :19:51.for the players. They've worked so hard all season. To reap the reward,

:19:52. > :19:54.you've got to go away and work hard. To be successful in football is

:19:55. > :19:57.difficult nowadays. But we've had a great day today. I'm pleased for

:19:58. > :20:01.everyone connected with our football club. Two second`half goals from Jay

:20:02. > :20:04.O'Shea completed a season's work. The Spireites have hardly been out

:20:05. > :20:10.off the top three but they've made hard work of reaching the finishing

:20:11. > :20:16.line. We had a few goes at it. And we keep tripping up. But we've done

:20:17. > :20:23.it well. Job done. Three points, and we're going to be champions next

:20:24. > :20:28.week. Again. Cheers, lads! York City only needed one goal. Michael

:20:29. > :20:35.Coulson's free kick was enough to see off Newport and make City

:20:36. > :20:39.certain of the play`offs. We are the big underdogs. So we will go enjoy

:20:40. > :20:45.the occasion, and do the best we can. Whoever we get, we'll give them

:20:46. > :20:48.a game. Nigel Worthington's men may be play`off underdogs but this time

:20:49. > :20:53.last year, they were relegation dogfighters. It's been an absolute

:20:54. > :20:57.transformation. Absolutely fantastic. I didn't think we were

:20:58. > :21:01.going to make it. And then, December, it all turned around. We

:21:02. > :21:05.were near the bottom of the league at the start of the year. And then

:21:06. > :21:08.we've kind of gone on this amazing run and not conceded many goals. And

:21:09. > :21:12.we're in the play`offs. It's incredible. But there's still work

:21:13. > :21:20.to be done before a Wembley final and shot at promotion.

:21:21. > :21:27.And you can see all the weekend's football action on Late Kick Off

:21:28. > :21:31.tonight at 11:25pm. On to cricket. Yorkshire have

:21:32. > :21:35.wrestled control of the county championship match. The visitors

:21:36. > :21:43.took seven wickets before lunch, as Middlesex were dismissed for 123.

:21:44. > :21:47.Yorkshire close the day on 213`4, with Captain Joe Root scoring 63.

:21:48. > :21:53.The Rugby League season is gaining pace. We are down to the last eight

:21:54. > :21:58.in the Challenge Cup. Bradford Bulls put their Super League woes behind

:21:59. > :22:02.them with a cracking 33`20 win over Catalan Dragons. They found

:22:03. > :22:06.themselves 16`0 down after the first 20 minutes but clawed their way back

:22:07. > :22:11.after half`time and never looked back. The draw for the quarterfinals

:22:12. > :22:17.of the Challenge Cup has just taken place. Radford have earned a home

:22:18. > :22:23.tie against Warrington. Meanwhile, Castleford travelled to Wigan. The

:22:24. > :22:29.display li centurions, and Keith Lulia away at Widnes Vikings. You

:22:30. > :22:32.can see how those teams made it to the quarterfinals tonight at

:22:33. > :22:40.11:55pm. The forecast now.

:22:41. > :22:47.Just a few nice pictures to show you. This one caught my eye. Sharon

:22:48. > :22:51.says, I was lucky enough to take this shot as this carpet wasn't

:22:52. > :23:01.around for long. Next, the bluebells alt in force. `` out in force. This

:23:02. > :23:05.is what we will expect in coastal areas tomorrow, that is Whitby

:23:06. > :23:12.Abbey, of course. Send your pictures through to me or tweaked me. So,

:23:13. > :23:18.tomorrow, it will be a fine day with a great start. Sunny spells will

:23:19. > :23:22.develop, but it looks as though the coast will be prone to low cloud on

:23:23. > :23:29.and off through the course of the day. The cloud broke nicely, we had

:23:30. > :23:36.17 degrees quite widely across Yorkshire. So, a bright and warm

:23:37. > :23:39.evening to come. Just the isolated shower here in there, mainly in

:23:40. > :23:46.western areas. These showers will fizzle away. That low cloud will

:23:47. > :23:56.pull in land, so it is a grey end to the day. The lowest temperatures, no

:23:57. > :24:00.problems there. Seven or eight. We will have a light easterly breeze.

:24:01. > :24:08.The sun will rise in the morning at 5:35am.

:24:09. > :24:20.A very grey start to many areas. You might be stuck in it near the hills.

:24:21. > :24:25.That mist and fog will lift, the low cloud will break, and by the

:24:26. > :24:29.afternoon, we will have sunny spells with a risk of an isolated shower

:24:30. > :24:34.perhaps over the Pennines, but for most of us, it will be fine. The

:24:35. > :24:40.coast will be prone to some cloud were brightening up sometimes.

:24:41. > :24:45.Consequently, the temperatures are depressed on the coast. Ten or 11,

:24:46. > :24:52.if you're lucky. Inland, the other side of the North York Moors, 17.

:24:53. > :24:56.Possibly the odd 18 in Sheffield city centre. Wednesday, a similar

:24:57. > :25:00.story, grey start, brightening up with the risk of some showers, a lot

:25:01. > :25:08.of uncertainty about Thursday, but it might turn out to be a rainy day.

:25:09. > :25:15.Sadly, a day of tragic news. We go back live to Harry. Floral

:25:16. > :25:21.tributes have been laid for the teacher, Anne Maguire. Harry.

:25:22. > :25:25.You can't help to be moved by these floral tributes. And some of the

:25:26. > :25:30.incredible messages as well. Let me tell you some of them. You are an

:25:31. > :25:35.amazing teacher, Heaven has gained an angel. Thank you for teaching

:25:36. > :25:40.both me and my son. I'll put all my efforts in my exams just for you.

:25:41. > :25:43.And you're the best teacher ever. You've talked three generations of

:25:44. > :25:48.us. More information are merging, too, about the way she actually did

:25:49. > :25:53.her teaching. She is to start her lessons with the theme June of

:25:54. > :25:57.friends from the sitcom `` with the theme tune of friends. She'd retired

:25:58. > :26:02.last you but came back to the school she loved the four days. She was

:26:03. > :26:04.part of this community and tonight we are all saying goodbye to a

:26:05. > :26:07.special teacher.
