:00:24. > :00:30.parents of Jasmyn Chan, the teenager killed in a hit`and`run in

:00:31. > :00:36.Sheffield. You know who is responsible. Do the right thing and

:00:37. > :00:40.contact the police. Find out what happened next for Sewing Bee

:00:41. > :00:44.competitor Julie Grommett, after the television cameras went away.

:00:45. > :00:46.It's been a beautiful day. How long will the fine weather last? Join me

:00:47. > :01:08.for all the details. Welcome to Look North. On the

:01:09. > :01:12.programme tonight: Police sniffer dogs search the house of the man

:01:13. > :01:14.arrested on suspicion of the murder of Claudia Lawrence.

:01:15. > :01:17.We'll be live in York with the latest as Michael Snelling is

:01:18. > :01:20.questioned for a second day. Also tonight, an appeal from the

:01:21. > :01:22.parents of Jasmyn Chan, the teenager killed in a hit`and`run in

:01:23. > :01:32.Sheffield. You know who is It has been a day of police activity

:01:33. > :01:35.here at Michael Snelling's semi`detached suburban home in York.

:01:36. > :01:39.He's continuing to be questioned at a police station all day today by

:01:40. > :01:43.detectives and the police stance has not altered from the statement of

:01:44. > :01:46.yesterday morning when they said that they've arrested a 59`year`old

:01:47. > :01:51.man on suspicion of the murder of Claudia Lawrence and further arrests

:01:52. > :01:56.could not be ruled out. This afternoon they sent the dogs in, the

:01:57. > :02:00.police dogs in to search Michael Snelling's back garden. Earlier a

:02:01. > :02:04.tent had been erected for forensic investigations to begin.

:02:05. > :02:08.The questioning of the 59`year`old former university lab technician

:02:09. > :02:12.went into its second day. In North Shields, there were further police

:02:13. > :02:17.searches today at the home of Michael Snelling's mother, where he

:02:18. > :02:21.was arrested yesterday. One of Claudia's best friends told today of

:02:22. > :02:25.receiving the news that there have been an arrest in the case. I can

:02:26. > :02:32.always say that I've never totally given up hope. I've always wanted a

:02:33. > :02:38.resolution. That's not changed. As time's gone on, you have to get on

:02:39. > :02:41.with life to a certain extent, but Claudia's disappearance has been

:02:42. > :02:49.part of my life for more than five years now. It will be probably

:02:50. > :02:53.forever. Yesterday's developments followed the relaunch last autumn by

:02:54. > :02:56.a new police team of the investigation into Claudia's

:02:57. > :03:02.disappearance, after five years with no apparent results. It included a

:03:03. > :03:07.new two`month search of Claudia's house. For the first time, new

:03:08. > :03:12.fingerprints had been found inside. Six months later, the progress of

:03:13. > :03:19.the new investigation led to yesterday's arrest of Michael

:03:20. > :03:25.Snelling. John what happens next? Mr Snelling has now been in police

:03:26. > :03:29.custody for 36 hours. He could be held for up to 48, 72 or even 96

:03:30. > :03:33.hours. There's a feeling tonight that it may be getting to a

:03:34. > :03:36.situation now where he could be given bail, pending further

:03:37. > :03:43.inquiries. We're awaiting possible news on that later this evening.

:03:44. > :03:51.Thank you. Later, captured on CCTV. The moments

:03:52. > :04:01.members of a group claim they spread the Christian message confront a man

:04:02. > :04:07.at a Bradford mosque. Next tonight, five days ago Jasmyn

:04:08. > :04:10.Chan was killed in a hit`and`run. Police are following new leads as

:04:11. > :04:14.they try to find the driver. Today her parents appealed to the public

:04:15. > :04:20.for their help. Clasping a grey hoodie top, a

:04:21. > :04:23.favourite of her daughter's, Jasmyn Chan's mother joined her husband to

:04:24. > :04:27.carry out a task no parent would ever ask for. Someone knows

:04:28. > :04:31.something. I'm appealing to all mothers and fathers, please, if you

:04:32. > :04:39.know who is responsible, do the right thing. Contact the police.

:04:40. > :04:45.Please just think if this was your daughter, our family are desperate

:04:46. > :04:51.for answers. Try to understand `` we try to understand how this has

:04:52. > :04:55.happened to our precious Jas. We have new identities, new vehicles

:04:56. > :04:59.being put forward on a daily basis. What I would say was that we have

:05:00. > :05:04.had some people who said they don't believe action is taken. Every lead

:05:05. > :05:08.that has been put forward will be followed through. The extent

:05:09. > :05:12.happened at 9. 20 on Friday night. There are reports that Jasmine,

:05:13. > :05:15.known as Jazzy to her friends, was able to push a younger girl out of

:05:16. > :05:20.the way of the car before this hit her. In the days since Jasmine died,

:05:21. > :05:24.the pile of flowers and toys placed at the scene of the accident has

:05:25. > :05:27.continued to grow. The messages on the cards reveal a portrait of a

:05:28. > :05:32.young woman held in great affection by so many. Now people who live

:05:33. > :05:37.around the sight of the road crossing, want to see a safety

:05:38. > :05:41.improvement. Put your comments as well please. 5,000 signatures will

:05:42. > :05:46.be needed on this petition to secure a council debate on the matter. Most

:05:47. > :05:52.vehicles speed down here. Nobody adheres to the 30mph limit. So what

:05:53. > :06:01.do you do? Obviously, I'm not an expert, but it warrants either speed

:06:02. > :06:09.bumps, some form of warning. As a family, we are all heartbroken. I

:06:10. > :06:13.don't know how we will ever get over losing our precious Jasmyn. Please

:06:14. > :06:19.if you know something, come forward now. She was a loving, friendly

:06:20. > :06:23.girl, who was just so giving. Their difficult appeal made, Jasmine's

:06:24. > :06:26.family now have to wait for answers. How long will depend on the driver

:06:27. > :06:34.or their family doing the right thing.

:06:35. > :06:41.In other news, a drugs trafficker from Sheffield has been sentenced to

:06:42. > :06:43.20 years in prison for running an international

:06:44. > :06:49.heroin and cocaine ring. 50`year`old Craig Allen, who lived in Thailand,

:06:50. > :06:52.was described as a "major league supplier" who distributed drugs

:06:53. > :06:55.across the UK. Allen was tracked down in Amsterdam, after a four`year

:06:56. > :06:59.investigation. Four other people who worked with him were sentenced to

:07:00. > :07:02.between six and 18 years in jail. The judge said the sentences took

:07:03. > :07:04.into account the vast quantities of drugs involved.

:07:05. > :07:10.We're delighted with the sentences passed today. They really do reflect

:07:11. > :07:14.the seriousness of the criminality that Craig Allen and his organised

:07:15. > :07:16.crime group were involved in, perpetrating the movement of

:07:17. > :07:19.controlled drugs into the communities of South Yorkshire, from

:07:20. > :07:23.the other side of the world. That shows and demonstrates the level of

:07:24. > :07:28.sophistication and determination that Craig Allen had and his 20`year

:07:29. > :07:33.sentence is indicative of his criminality.

:07:34. > :07:37.drugs involved. There's been a big drop in the

:07:38. > :07:40.numbers of unemployed in Yorkshire . Figures for the period between

:07:41. > :07:42.January and March show there were 230,000 people without a job. That's

:07:43. > :07:45.10,000 fewer than the previous quarter. The regional

:07:46. > :07:51.unemployment rate is now 8.3% the second highest in Britain.

:07:52. > :07:53.A 21`year`old man has admitted posting a grossly offensive message

:07:54. > :07:56.on Facebook after the fatal stabbing of a teacher in Leeds.

:07:57. > :08:01.Jake Newsome from Harehills wrote the message on the social networking

:08:02. > :08:05.site a few days after Ann Maguire was killed. He's been warned he

:08:06. > :08:08.could face jail when he's sentenced next month.

:08:09. > :08:12.Meanwhile it's been confirmed the funeral of Ann Maguire will be held

:08:13. > :08:15.in Leeds on Friday. The 61`year`old died, after being stabbed in front

:08:16. > :08:18.of pupils in a classroom at Corpus Christi Catholic College last month.

:08:19. > :08:25.A private service for family and friends will take place at her local

:08:26. > :08:27.church in Moortown. People living near the Yorkshire

:08:28. > :08:30.cricket ground at Headingley have told Look North they're concerned

:08:31. > :08:34.about plans for new floodlights. The club says the lights are needed

:08:35. > :08:38.to secure the ground's future as a venue for Test match cricket.

:08:39. > :08:40.Residents want the new lights to be retractable, but the club says that

:08:41. > :08:48.would be too expensive. We don't oppose that kind of

:08:49. > :08:53.development in principle, we realise that it is difficult for them to

:08:54. > :08:57.operate, but they have to make the extra effort and find the extra

:08:58. > :09:02.money in order to be able to create masts which will be tolerable for

:09:03. > :09:08.the residents. Telescopic lights cost in the region of 1. ?1.5

:09:09. > :09:13.million. We haven't got the extra 1. ?1.5 million to do the retractible

:09:14. > :09:16.ones. Those would be ideal but the money is not there. A formal process

:09:17. > :09:21.of redundancies has begun at Leeds United football club. The club is

:09:22. > :09:24.losing more than ?1 million a movement it's not clear how many

:09:25. > :09:27.staff at Elland Road are losing their jobs. We understand they

:09:28. > :09:30.include the head of media and communications, as well as other

:09:31. > :09:34.commercial personnel. A public meeting will be held

:09:35. > :09:38.tonight about the future of urgent care services in Scarborough and

:09:39. > :09:43.Ryedale. Protests took place two years ago against plans to cut the

:09:44. > :09:47.opening hours at the minor injuries unit at Malton Hospital. The local

:09:48. > :09:51.clinical commissioning group says it wants to close the unit and a

:09:52. > :09:55.walk`in centre in Scarborough and replace them with two urgent care

:09:56. > :09:59.centres. 700 people have taken part in a consultation and the outcomes

:10:00. > :10:03.will be revealed tonight. Now, CCTV images of a group of

:10:04. > :10:08.uniformed men entering a Bradford mosque is part of a campaign to

:10:09. > :10:11.spread a Christian message, have been released to the BBC. The group

:10:12. > :10:15.called Britain First walked into the mosque last weekend, where they

:10:16. > :10:18.confronted the Imam, who was alone in the building. A delegation from

:10:19. > :10:24.the mosque will travel to London tomorrow to discuss what happened

:10:25. > :10:29.with a Government minister. Is this the moment when a small

:10:30. > :10:34.political group's protest overstepped the mark? CCTV footage

:10:35. > :10:39.released to the BBC, shows a group of uniformed men and one woman going

:10:40. > :10:44.into Bradford's Westgate mosque. They walk around, leave a Bible,

:10:45. > :10:48.then enter the main hall without removing their shoes. They're

:10:49. > :10:53.members of Britain First and they also made their own video of the

:10:54. > :10:56.unannounced visit. Their actions have offended worshippers in the

:10:57. > :11:02.city. One of this mosque's trustees told me how the Imam is upset about

:11:03. > :11:07.what happened. He now feels that this was almost like a military

:11:08. > :11:15.operation, they were very aggressive. He even uses the kind

:11:16. > :11:21.of, like they were from the armed forces that came and violated his

:11:22. > :11:26.space. Prayers have continued since the weekend, but some fear the

:11:27. > :11:31.uninvited group could return. Around a quarter of Bradford's population

:11:32. > :11:37.are Muslim. Tens of thousands attend mosques like this one. What happened

:11:38. > :11:42.at the weekend has left many feeling very concerned, not just here, but

:11:43. > :11:46.across the city. Britain First are a far`right political group, who broke

:11:47. > :11:50.away from the British National Party. Their own video of the visit

:11:51. > :11:56.to Bradford last Saturday, includes this confrontation with the Imam.

:11:57. > :11:59.Jesus Christ our Lord wants to save Frau hell. West Yorkshire Police are

:12:00. > :12:15.investigating what happened and say: Worshippers have been left unnerved

:12:16. > :12:20.by the invasion of the mosque. Leaving the Bible was clearly

:12:21. > :12:26.designed to provoke. I've been reading through this over the last

:12:27. > :12:35.few days. Nowhere do I find that the Bible is teaching them to go about

:12:36. > :12:40.invadeing other people's property or disrespecting others' religion.

:12:41. > :12:44.Tomorrow he will meet with the Government's cohesion minister to

:12:45. > :12:52.discuss the incident. The far`right group have said they plan to return

:12:53. > :12:56.to Yorkshire. We're joined now by Right Reverend

:12:57. > :13:04.Nick Baines. He was previous live the bishop of Bradford. Britain

:13:05. > :13:09.First call this a Christian crusade, is it? No, it isn't. Actually, if

:13:10. > :13:12.you took the Christian Gospel seriously, you wouldn't behave in

:13:13. > :13:16.this way. You certainly don't enter other people's places of worship and

:13:17. > :13:20.intimidate them in that way. Had it been the `` been the other way round

:13:21. > :13:24.and a group of Muslims had gone into a church with the Koran would there

:13:25. > :13:28.have been more public outcry? I don't know if there would have been

:13:29. > :13:31.a public outcry, but people wouldn't have been happy with that. It might

:13:32. > :13:36.have had a different sort of response. You just don't behave like

:13:37. > :13:40.that. It's just extremely unhelpful. Especially in a place where the

:13:41. > :13:44.relationships are very good between Christians and Muslims. Clearly,

:13:45. > :13:49.it's a fairly inflammatory thing to do. Some in the Muslim community

:13:50. > :13:54.have said, you know Bradford should remain calm. Can you understand that

:13:55. > :13:59.tensions may be ` have risen through this? I don't think tensions have

:14:00. > :14:04.risen but you can understand why people in the Muslim community would

:14:05. > :14:09.feel vulnerable because of this. But I think their response has been `

:14:10. > :14:12.don't rise to it. That's what happens to bullies. You give them

:14:13. > :14:17.what they want. The best thing to do is keep it calm, keep it down and

:14:18. > :14:21.don't rise to the How do bait. You get together to really reassure each

:14:22. > :14:30.other that things are OK? I think that is happening already. Over the

:14:31. > :14:34.weekend, I was in touch with a friend of mine and the Imam, and the

:14:35. > :14:38.acting bishop has been in touch as well. We have made statements of

:14:39. > :14:42.support. We are in it together, to quote George Osborne. I think that's

:14:43. > :14:46.OK. The relationships in Bradford are strong because we work on them

:14:47. > :14:50.when times are good. You don't wait until they're bad and then try to

:14:51. > :14:53.bring it all together. We support one another and we encourage one

:14:54. > :14:58.another. I don't think that will change. Talking about vulnerability

:14:59. > :15:01.there. There is talk of stepping up security in the mosques, maybe

:15:02. > :15:04.security guards there or opening just for prayer times. Do you not

:15:05. > :15:09.think that may segregate the community? I don't know about

:15:10. > :15:13.segregating the community. If people feel under threat, they feel

:15:14. > :15:21.vulnerable, then they can retreat. I think if we can avoid that, it would

:15:22. > :15:24.be very helpful. Of course, you understand if they say, we would

:15:25. > :15:27.like a couple of guys on the door to ensure this doesn't happen. Nick

:15:28. > :15:33.Baines, thank you very much for joining us. Before 7pm: She found

:15:34. > :15:39.fame on the BBC's great British Sewing Bee. We talk to Julie

:15:40. > :15:45.Grommett to find out what happened once the cameras went away. When

:15:46. > :15:48.you've got to go, you've got to go. This toilet really can go. These

:15:49. > :15:51.gentlemen here won't settle for being number two, they want to be

:15:52. > :15:52.number one. They're going for a world record attempt on the fastest

:15:53. > :16:05.loo. Only on Look North! Was he plumb

:16:06. > :16:13.being new depths there? Oh, Phil, let's move on. How's your sowing? I

:16:14. > :16:18.spend most nights darning my socks. I do struggle to sew even a button,

:16:19. > :16:22.but another Yorkshire lass hasn't got the issues I have. Julie

:16:23. > :16:25.Grommett's northern charm won hearts when she appeared on the Great

:16:26. > :16:30.British Sewing Bee this year. Now she's launching her own clothing

:16:31. > :16:38.line. She's joined forces with the tailor from Castleford, who's

:16:39. > :16:44.dressed Royals and TV stars. It's a new take on flatcaps and tweed waist

:16:45. > :16:47.coats, which I rather fancy. Julie's skills were borne out of

:16:48. > :16:54.necessity when her daughter took up ballroom dancing. The the diamonte

:16:55. > :16:58.has stayed but the fabric has changed. Tweed is something I've

:16:59. > :17:02.loved. For the last few years I've made my own growths. When I came off

:17:03. > :17:05.the Sewing Bee, everybody mentioned the clothes I were wearing in a

:17:06. > :17:08.positive way. I thought, well, maybe we could do something about it.

:17:09. > :17:16.Maybe there's a market for the kind of clothes that I wear. I like it. I

:17:17. > :17:21.don't like it. I think the colours are horrible. My colours are boring.

:17:22. > :17:24.Straight talking also won her fans and she decide today was new or

:17:25. > :17:28.never. In just five weeks she's managed to pull together her own

:17:29. > :17:34.line of tweeds, much of it aimed at the under ones. Too much for one

:17:35. > :17:37.person, she's teamed up with a local tailor, who's had his own share of

:17:38. > :17:40.fame and had been thinking of retiring. Yeah, we've done for the

:17:41. > :17:48.Royals as well. We've done for Savile Row. She's a Castler, so

:17:49. > :17:51.we've got to lock after her. For a couple of weeks, the traditional

:17:52. > :17:56.men's trousers have given way to rather smaller garments. It's been a

:17:57. > :18:00.challenge, but the real issue is what happens if the line takes off?

:18:01. > :18:04.We can do it. We've got here, we're lucky, we have a waiting list of

:18:05. > :18:08.girls wanting to come because nobody ever leaves. I've got one girl down

:18:09. > :18:15.stairs, she's been here since she were 15 and she's 50 now. We're like

:18:16. > :18:19.a family. So, we can take more people on, if we have to. For Julie,

:18:20. > :18:23.whose day job is as a housing officer, it's been a whirlwind that

:18:24. > :18:30.could one day become a fulltime career. You know, all these big

:18:31. > :18:33.companies, the Barbers of the world, they all start somewhere. There's

:18:34. > :18:42.nothing to say it couldn't happen to us. We could be ape household name.

:18:43. > :18:45.One up heard here first. Baby tweed, I love it.

:18:46. > :18:49.I've been predicting a comeback for tweed for a long time. Can you

:18:50. > :18:54.imagine me in tweed? Would you need a deer stalker? Very middle class.

:18:55. > :18:57.Not you. Strictly working class, me. I feel we should apologise in

:18:58. > :19:04.advance for the toilet talk coming up. A man from Brighouse is hoping

:19:05. > :19:10.he can beat a world land speed record on a motorised toilet.

:19:11. > :19:15.Trevor Duckworth has held 50 national and world records and hopes

:19:16. > :19:21.he will be flushed with success this weekend, when his converted go`cart

:19:22. > :19:25.loo takes to a track. Who else could we send other than our bog standard

:19:26. > :19:31.reporter Ian White to meet him. Stop it! Meet Shawn and Trevor, they're

:19:32. > :19:35.men on ape mission. They just love speed. They're at this work shop in

:19:36. > :19:40.Brighouse to put the finishing touches to the latest vehicle that's

:19:41. > :19:47.hopefully going to be a world record breaker, a toilet on a go`kart.

:19:48. > :19:52.This is their inspiration, a speed attempt by a Canadian and a world

:19:53. > :19:57.record of 55mph achieved in Australia. I know what you're

:19:58. > :20:01.thinking, I bet this is not a real toilet. You're wrong, because it

:20:02. > :20:07.does actually flush. Whoa, look at this. But it's not connected up.

:20:08. > :20:12.Nearly caught my pants down there. The motorised toilet is an idea we
