:00:00. > :00:00.eye on development is over the next couple of days.

:00:00. > :00:00.Are house prices going through the roof?

:00:07. > :00:10.Fears that Yorkshire could be on the brink of a housing bubble as

:00:11. > :00:18.we see the biggest price increases outside the south of England.

:00:19. > :00:26.We have a new development aimed at the first buyers. We had people

:00:27. > :00:29.queueing from 4am to reserve these houses.

:00:30. > :00:32.We'll ask Yorkshire Building Society what impact that could have

:00:33. > :00:37.The pollution`absorbing poster being put to work on the side

:00:38. > :00:51.And, while Yorkshire growers are flying the flag at Chelsea.

:00:52. > :00:53.It has been another beautiful day, but what is this week looking like?

:00:54. > :01:02.Joined me for the forecast. First tonight to claims that this

:01:03. > :01:04.month Yorkshire has seen the biggest increase

:01:05. > :01:07.in asking prices for homes anywhere Figures out today show that demand

:01:08. > :01:12.from buyers is pushing prices up. It's led to fears that house

:01:13. > :01:16.prices are unrealistic, but that at The average asking price

:01:17. > :01:21.has gone up in some parts. York has seen an increase of 5%

:01:22. > :01:25.in the last year, Similarly, in Leeds,

:01:26. > :01:35.up 4% to ?175,180. But in Sheffield,

:01:36. > :01:39.that figure fell by 2%. The average asking price

:01:40. > :01:44.there is ?164,596. In a moment,

:01:45. > :01:47.we'll hear what effect these prices can have on mortgages and interest

:01:48. > :02:05.rates, but first, we ask whether If this newly renovated farmhouse

:02:06. > :02:08.was in the South, it would have sold months ago. In Yorkshire, the

:02:09. > :02:13.housing market has been depressed a long time, and this property is

:02:14. > :02:16.taking time to shift. You keep hearing about price rises, but we

:02:17. > :02:25.have kept ours where it was last year. We are worried that people are

:02:26. > :02:33.thinking of the stamp duty. We have brought it believe that, to combat

:02:34. > :02:37.that, but nothing. As yet. Our better times ahead? We have been

:02:38. > :02:42.taking the temperature of the housing market across Yorkshire.

:02:43. > :02:47.Things on the up again or RBC and a seasonal spike? In West Yorkshire,

:02:48. > :02:52.interest is picking up, but estate agents are cheering yet. It is

:02:53. > :02:58.improving, no doubt, things are picking up. The better weather

:02:59. > :03:04.helps, the pent`up demand of the last few years is being released. It

:03:05. > :03:08.is being released for quicker in the South and it is here. But things are

:03:09. > :03:13.picking up, it is looking good, the prices are improving, and activity

:03:14. > :03:20.is improving. What about in South Yorkshire? Here, the recovery is

:03:21. > :03:27.delicate. People have got to be cautious with how people are putting

:03:28. > :03:31.their houses on the market. Putting your property on to hide could

:03:32. > :03:35.stagnate the market a bit, because the odd property will get a buyer

:03:36. > :03:39.and go for a bit more, but when you look at the whole of the market, it

:03:40. > :03:44.is not increasing, it is very much improving. North Yorkshire is in

:03:45. > :03:50.full bloom mode, especially start`up aims. We have a new development of

:03:51. > :03:54.modern houses aimed at the first`time buyers, we had people

:03:55. > :03:59.queueing from 4am to reserve these houses, typical first`time buyer

:04:00. > :04:05.couples, wanting to get on the ladder. A mixed picture, but that

:04:06. > :04:09.tells us the market here still needs a nurturing hand.

:04:10. > :04:12.Well, a little earlier I spoke to Andy Caton, Yorkshire Building

:04:13. > :04:15.Society's executive director, and I began by asking him

:04:16. > :04:26.I do not think so. House prices are going up 4% in Yorkshire, slightly

:04:27. > :04:30.under the national average, excluding London. London has got

:04:31. > :04:35.some very strong house price numbers, a third of the bowlers in

:04:36. > :04:41.London growing at more than 20%, which is very strong. If asking

:04:42. > :04:47.prices are going up, does that mean there will be pressure on the

:04:48. > :04:52.interest rate? I do not think so, there are other parts of the economy

:04:53. > :04:58.which need low interest rates. The rates would be a blunt tool to calm

:04:59. > :05:02.down areas of strength, especially just in the London region, so the

:05:03. > :05:07.bank will look to use some of its newer tools to control the housing

:05:08. > :05:09.market, things like limiting the amount that people can lend against

:05:10. > :05:17.their income, or don't value levels, or the sort of affordability

:05:18. > :05:23.rate. Making mortgages more difficult to come by? Yes. The

:05:24. > :05:27.governor of the Bank of England has his hands tied, he said, do you see

:05:28. > :05:34.the economy being quite threatened as he suggests? Recently, he is

:05:35. > :05:39.looking towards the Eurozone, which is an important export market. A

:05:40. > :05:47.number of the larger you rose own economies are struggling. In the

:05:48. > :05:54.Eurozone, we might have deflation. And events in China. So there are

:05:55. > :05:58.issues for him. In parts of Yorkshire, we are just outside the

:05:59. > :06:03.rubble, in South Yorkshire, they are not even in it. Slightly weaker

:06:04. > :06:10.picture from some of the data we have seen. But that defies the UK

:06:11. > :06:16.market in general. And the fact that there is still a north/ South

:06:17. > :06:21.divide? Absolutely. If you had a crystal ball, what would you predict

:06:22. > :06:26.for the prices in a year? We will see prices go up between eight and

:06:27. > :06:32.10%. It is a lot, but we are coming from a low figure. To use Yorkshire

:06:33. > :06:36.as an example, we are 10% away from the high water mark before the

:06:37. > :06:39.crisis. Next year, maybe a little less.

:06:40. > :06:43.And if you want to join our housing debate, go to our Facebook page.

:06:44. > :06:45.Just search for BBC Look North Yorkshire.

:06:46. > :06:47.It's not the only way to get in touch.

:06:48. > :07:01.You can email us or you can tweet us, where you can follow us as well.

:07:02. > :07:04.A murder inquiry is under way in Huddersfield after a 37`year`old

:07:05. > :07:07.woman was found with stab injuries at a house in Reinwood Road.

:07:08. > :07:10.Four children aged between 11 years old

:07:11. > :07:31.Just after 9pm, neighbours in this area were reporting sounds of

:07:32. > :07:38.commotion coming from the house up the road. The police arrived just

:07:39. > :07:42.after 9:30pm to a tragic situation, they found a woman lying in the

:07:43. > :07:48.property with a serious stab wound, she was later to die in hospital.

:07:49. > :07:53.They also found a nine`year`old boy just outside, he had been stabbed in

:07:54. > :07:59.the arm, and inside, and 11`year`old boy who had also been stabbed, and

:08:00. > :08:04.there was a sexual toy and a baby girl `` there was a six`year`old

:08:05. > :08:10.boy. Those injured were described as having non`threatening injuries. We

:08:11. > :08:19.spoke to people locally, Marcel Adams said he had known the murder

:08:20. > :08:24.victim for many years. She was a nice, polite young lady,

:08:25. > :08:32.our kids play together, a very nice lady. It is a tragedy, you have got

:08:33. > :08:37.to think of the poor people that are left behind to suffer. These poor

:08:38. > :08:45.children have lost their mother. It is so tragic.

:08:46. > :08:50.What happens next? A man was detained on the spot last night by

:08:51. > :08:54.the police, he is in hospital with serious injuries. Detectives are

:08:55. > :08:57.waiting to question him. They are not looking for anybody else in

:08:58. > :09:02.connection with this incident, which happened last night in Huddersfield.

:09:03. > :09:04.North Yorkshire Police have confirmed that a man's body

:09:05. > :09:07.which was recovered from the River Ouse yesterday is that

:09:08. > :09:13.The 41`year`old doctor was reported missing on Friday.

:09:14. > :09:16.Yesterday, a member of the public called the police when they spotted

:09:17. > :09:22.Meanwhile, police say a woman jumped from Clifton Bridge

:09:23. > :09:25.into the Ouse this morning and was rescued by two passers`by.

:09:26. > :09:31.BT has announced plans to create up to 80 new engineering jobs

:09:32. > :09:35.The company is keen to recruit in York, Leeds,

:09:36. > :09:39.It's hoped more women will come forward for the roles,

:09:40. > :09:41.and that new engineers will improve customer service and bring

:09:42. > :09:48.Industrial action started today at Sheffield Forgemasters.

:09:49. > :09:54.The Unite union says 80 workers are in dispute over bonus payments,

:09:55. > :09:57.leaving them in a financially`precarious position.

:09:58. > :10:01.An overtime ban begins today and there'll be a 24`hour strike

:10:02. > :10:07.The company says only 61 of its 800 workers are involved in the dispute,

:10:08. > :10:14.A new train timetable is now in place on the Transpennine route

:10:15. > :10:17.through Yorkshire, with 50,000 more seats per week between Leeds

:10:18. > :10:22.It's currently one of the most overcrowded routes in the country.

:10:23. > :10:25.There'll also be quicker journey times on some services.

:10:26. > :10:30.Extra carriages have been brought in from Scotland.

:10:31. > :10:35.Now, a giant poster that helps to reduce pollution, yes,

:10:36. > :10:39.There are just three days to go now until the local and European

:10:40. > :10:42.elections, and Look North has been out and about to see

:10:43. > :10:44.the main political parties in their campaign for votes.

:10:45. > :10:47.We've seen all the leaders of the main political parties come

:10:48. > :10:50.to Yorkshire to set out their stalls, with the exception

:10:51. > :10:52.of the Prime Minister and Conservative leader David Cameron.

:10:53. > :10:57.But the Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has been here.

:10:58. > :11:05.As the economy recovers, as people do not have capacity... The Defence

:11:06. > :11:09.Secretary on the election offensive, Philip Hammond chose to visit a

:11:10. > :11:17.tools factory to support the Tory campaign for votes. His messages,

:11:18. > :11:20.the economy is improving and, trust us to negotiate Britain's role in

:11:21. > :11:25.Europe. All of the main political parties have sent their leaders to

:11:26. > :11:31.campaign in Yorkshire. Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage. David

:11:32. > :11:38.Cameron has not. Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg represent Yorkshire seat,

:11:39. > :11:43.so it is natural they would be in the area. It is a national campaign,

:11:44. > :11:46.we have to spread ourselves across the country, but we are visiting

:11:47. > :11:53.schools, businesses, hospitals, institutions. The Conservatives were

:11:54. > :11:57.allocated to Yorkshire MEPs last time, but with UKIP rising in the

:11:58. > :12:02.polls, will they be struggling to match that in four days? We have to

:12:03. > :12:07.take the battle to them, only the Conservatives can deliver on the

:12:08. > :12:10.problems that we face in Europe. The British people are not happy with

:12:11. > :12:15.the current relationship that we have, Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband

:12:16. > :12:19.will not do anything about it, because they think Britain's

:12:20. > :12:25.relationship with Europe is fine. UKIP cannot do anything about it.

:12:26. > :12:31.Alex Story has spent most of his life winning. The Roma is based in

:12:32. > :12:37.Wakefield, and if the Conservatives win enough votes for two seats, he

:12:38. > :12:41.will become a new MEP. I am quite optimistic, but I am in our fleet,

:12:42. > :12:47.so my demeanour is always that things are possible. When you are

:12:48. > :12:51.me, you start off at 12 and think, of course I can be the world

:12:52. > :12:55.champion, I can win the gold medal, and the same thing will happen here.

:12:56. > :12:58.I believe I can win, there is no other way to campaign. We will find

:12:59. > :13:06.out if it works in a few days. And you can see more information on

:13:07. > :13:10.the parties and candidates in these elections from across Yorkshire

:13:11. > :13:16.on the BBC's Vote 2014 website. Before 7pm, we'll have a roundup

:13:17. > :13:26.of all your weekend sport. And, why recycling has brought a new

:13:27. > :13:35.meaning to the grumpy part at Chelsea.

:13:36. > :13:37.Now, a giant poster that helps to reduce pollution, yes,

:13:38. > :13:41.you heard that right, has been put to work on the side of

:13:42. > :13:46.It has a special coating which helps absorb fumes from passing vehicles.

:13:47. > :13:48.It's been developed by the university's own researchers,

:13:49. > :13:50.who've already made a name for themselves designing

:13:51. > :14:00.a liquid that can be sprayed onto jeans to help clean the air.

:14:01. > :14:07.Could a giant poster and these pairs of specially treated genes be the

:14:08. > :14:11.answer to our city centre pollution problems? Scientists at Sheffield

:14:12. > :14:15.University think so. They have been working on a spray that helps absorb

:14:16. > :14:20.dangerous classes from exhaust fumes, a coating has been put on the

:14:21. > :14:27.genes, and for the first time, onto this poster. I told Simon Armitage

:14:28. > :14:31.about it and a famous chemist, and he said, we need to write a poem in

:14:32. > :14:39.praise of air, so the poem is there because these trousers and that poem

:14:40. > :14:43.takeout the pollution of the cars. Getting the poster up on the side of

:14:44. > :14:47.the building took weeks of planning and involved at sailors and a

:14:48. > :14:52.hydraulic platform. Now, it is in a perfect place to absorb poison from

:14:53. > :14:58.20 vehicles. Imagine if every poster could do that. One poster makes no

:14:59. > :15:01.difference. It is something that everybody needs to engage in,

:15:02. > :15:06.because we can help each other. These trousers will not make the air

:15:07. > :15:13.particularly better, but if everybody around them wears them,

:15:14. > :15:18.the old get better quality air. We have had the science, we have seen

:15:19. > :15:25.the poster, now I bring you the poem. I write in praise of her, and

:15:26. > :15:30.the conjurer opened my fist and I held in my palm the whole of the

:15:31. > :15:36.sky. I have held it with me every sense. With a white handkerchief

:15:37. > :15:39.over its mouth, cars blow kisses to our lips, I turned the key and threw

:15:40. > :15:47.back the lead. Breathe deep. My first word, everyone's first word.

:15:48. > :15:51.Air pollution remains a problem in the UK, but scientists hope this

:15:52. > :15:55.could be the start of a cleaner, brighter future for us all. They are

:15:56. > :16:02.already thinking about using flags and size petrol stations next.

:16:03. > :16:05.Let's have a bit of sport now, shall we?

:16:06. > :16:07.In rugby league, it was Magic Weekend, a showpiece event

:16:08. > :16:11.where all the weekend's Super League matches were held in one stadium.

:16:12. > :16:12.Huddersfield Giants thrashed the Bradford Bulls yesterday,

:16:13. > :16:14.while Castleford Tigers kept their fantastic season

:16:15. > :16:17.on track with a breathtaking win over neighbours Wakefield Wildcats.

:16:18. > :16:21.This try from Mark Sneyd was one of two he scored at the

:16:22. > :16:32.Classy Cas won 50`12 and moved up to third in Super League.

:16:33. > :16:38.They are working exceptionally hard, they have bought into it, I only

:16:39. > :16:42.have to tell them once or show them once, they have a pop at it. Not

:16:43. > :16:44.everything works, but we will have a go at things, and if not, we think

:16:45. > :16:47.of something else. And you can see highlights

:16:48. > :16:50.from all the Magic Weekend matches That's on BBC One tonight

:16:51. > :16:53.at 11:20pm. In the other code, Leeds Carnegie

:16:54. > :16:56.had victory snatched away in the final minutes to end their hopes

:16:57. > :17:00.of a return to union's top flight. They took a first`leg lead into

:17:01. > :17:03.their match at London Welsh, and when Charlie Beech stormed over the

:17:04. > :17:07.line, it looked as if Leeds would But a late penalty for

:17:08. > :17:13.the home side put pay to all that. With Rotherham Titans? defeat

:17:14. > :17:16.on Saturday, Yorkshire will be without a Premiership side

:17:17. > :17:21.for the fourth season in a row. In football, I'm afraid York City

:17:22. > :17:26.won't be following Rotherham United down the road to Wembley

:17:27. > :17:28.for the play`off finals. The Minstermen were already

:17:29. > :17:31.behind from their semi`final first leg and just couldn't find a goal

:17:32. > :17:34.on Friday night at Fleetwood. Michael Coulson came close, but

:17:35. > :17:37.his shot was blocked by the keeper. York fans left disappointed

:17:38. > :17:52.on the night, but content with Just upset, really, a good

:17:53. > :17:57.performance, we deserved a goal, at least. To go from 22nd to seventh, I

:17:58. > :18:31.do not think we deserved to lose that,

:18:32. > :18:33.Now, it?s the first day of the Chelsea Flower Show,

:18:34. > :18:37.and growers and garden designers from across Yorkshire are in London

:18:38. > :18:43.Welcome To Yorkshire is once again keen to repeat its success with

:18:44. > :18:57.a garden to celebrate the Grand Depart.

:18:58. > :19:06.So, whether you are a visitor or a celebrity, it is all about being

:19:07. > :19:21.seen. The muddy boots are kicked off to

:19:22. > :19:28.make way for the Queen and golden royalty.

:19:29. > :19:38.Look who I found, Yorkshire's finest. How are you? It is lovely to

:19:39. > :19:43.see you, and getting your hands dirty, but taking your inspiration

:19:44. > :19:51.from Yorkshire. I get my hands dirty everyday. I garden every day, this

:19:52. > :19:58.is a garden celebrating 50 years of Britain in Bloom, and my 50 years in

:19:59. > :20:02.horticulture. How difficult was it, capturing the beauty of rugged

:20:03. > :20:10.Yorkshire? When you are given dry stonewalling, this was transported

:20:11. > :20:13.from Yorkshire, and native flowers from Yorkshire, it is not difficult,

:20:14. > :20:20.it is just up to you not to mess it up. I am talking about the plans.

:20:21. > :20:27.About this time of year, mid to late May, the Chelsea job means those

:20:28. > :20:32.that you chop will flower later, you spread the season of interest. To

:20:33. > :20:38.the Yorkshire Dales, and a piece of living Yorkshire in the heart of

:20:39. > :20:41.Chelsea. The Hawthorn came for the welcome to Yorkshire garden,

:20:42. > :20:46.celebrating the grumpy part in 46 days, but it has not been an easy

:20:47. > :20:52.journey, especially getting the back in. We had that put into position

:20:53. > :20:57.early, and then had to build the rest of the garden around it. It was

:20:58. > :21:04.very difficult. Trying to get the bill does not to scratch it. How do

:21:05. > :21:07.you win at Chelsea? If you thought gardeners World a placid bunch, meet

:21:08. > :21:12.the Yorkshire groaners, they are deadly serious. It is the best

:21:13. > :21:20.display we have seen so far, fingers crossed. We are a small nursery, to

:21:21. > :21:24.get into Chelsea is really nice. The biggest challenge is to get here in

:21:25. > :21:27.the first place, because it was hot when we left home, it was hot on the

:21:28. > :21:36.way down, so there has been no respite this year. Fresh from their

:21:37. > :21:41.success at Harrogate, cheap heat and free lecture city, the virtues of

:21:42. > :21:47.Yorkshire thriftiness. Leeds tend to do us proud, whenever you see a

:21:48. > :21:51.garden from Leeds, there is something special. I think it is

:21:52. > :21:57.something in the air. It takes months of planning, selection and

:21:58. > :22:01.money to be here. For some, they will never be allowed back in.

:22:02. > :22:12.Gnomes are again the ultimate faux pas.

:22:13. > :22:18.I put it down to good Yorkshire manure.

:22:19. > :22:24.Tomorrow, the results. Speaking of awards, I hear you have

:22:25. > :22:28.another one! Yes, I had something yesterday,

:22:29. > :22:32.thank you to my colleagues downstairs who helped me get it.

:22:33. > :22:34.How many is that? I have got one or two, it is very

:22:35. > :22:39.nice. He is so modest!

:22:40. > :22:46.He will have to get an extension! How many is it this year? The ready

:22:47. > :22:52.well`deserved, I wish I could get one for weather forecasting! Lets

:22:53. > :22:59.have a look at the picture that came in for the weekend, the Rochdale

:23:00. > :23:10.Canal. A beautiful shot. This caught your imagination, lenticular clouds.

:23:11. > :23:22.Beautiful. Keep the pictures coming in. Tomorrow, sunny spells, a

:23:23. > :23:25.scattering of thunderstorms, there might be one or two first thing,

:23:26. > :23:30.then they will break out later in the day. It is an unsettled chart,
