:03:17. > :03:19.Also tonight, Look North has learnt that millions of pounds havd been

:03:20. > :03:21.cut from children's services across Yorkshire,

:03:22. > :03:23.with Rotherham Council the latest to target Sure Start centres.

:03:24. > :03:28.Today it decided to close 10 out of its 22 centres, which offer help

:03:29. > :03:35.Sure Start budgets across Yorkshire have been cut by ?7.5 million.

:03:36. > :03:40.These range from just 0.2% in Kirklees to 13% in North

:03:41. > :03:51.These families have just fotnd out their children's centre

:03:52. > :03:57.Cortonwood in the Brampton area is one

:03:58. > :04:02.of ten Sure Start centres Rotherham council is shutting to save money.

:04:03. > :04:11.There's nowhere else in this community for everybody elsd to go.

:04:12. > :04:12.We?ve got no other facilities to use.

:04:13. > :04:15.This used to be Sure Start nursery in Sheffield.

:04:16. > :04:17.Set up for families in the Sharrow area,

:04:18. > :04:22.it was mostly funded by the NHS but it became another victim of cuts.

:04:23. > :04:26.I've used this centre, now, for nearly ten years.

:04:27. > :04:30.As a single parent I'm not getting as much support as H did.

:04:34. > :04:40.it spends on Sure Start centres by ?0.5 million in the last five years.

:04:41. > :04:43.Sure Start funding used to be ring`fenced, meaning budgets were

:04:44. > :04:47.protected, but that's no longer the case and our local councils are

:04:48. > :04:52.having to make huge savings because of government cuts.

:04:53. > :04:54.Using the Freedom of Information Act, we've discovered

:04:55. > :04:57.that across Yorkshire as a whole, councils have reduced

:04:58. > :05:02.the amount they spend on Sure Start by more than ?7.5 million.

:05:03. > :05:05.Bradford, Doncaster and North Yorkshire have also said thdy plan

:05:06. > :05:15.Rotherham Council says it's being forced into closing centres because

:05:16. > :05:19.the Government had reduced the amount of money local counchls get.

:05:20. > :05:22.Sheffield council says 17 "centre areas" remain serving the

:05:23. > :05:28.It looks like all seven of Doncaster Council's remaining care holes

:05:29. > :05:33.Plans to hand services to the private sector have been

:05:34. > :05:36.recommended for approval, s`ving the council nearly ?2 million.

:05:37. > :05:40.The council says standards of care shouldn't be affectdd.

:05:41. > :05:44.A man, whose bungalow was blown up in a huge gas explosion at Tingley,
