:00:00. > :00:00.from the News at Six. Goodbye from me. On

:00:00. > :00:24.We feel this will increase pollution and reduce our life span, so in a

:00:25. > :00:29.natural oil we will die sooner. Where will you watch

:00:30. > :00:32.the Tour de France? The advice is to plan ahead to

:00:33. > :00:42.make sure you don't miss out. And we will be hearing from the city

:00:43. > :00:51.of Leeds diver who is looking to make a bit of history this summer

:00:52. > :00:53.for Jamaica. Wrote it is not looking bad but join me for all the details

:00:54. > :01:05.later. Controversial plans for a ndw IKEA

:01:06. > :01:08.store in South Yorkshire have been The Swedish furniture retailer says

:01:09. > :01:12.the store right next to the M1 motorway will create

:01:13. > :01:14.around 400 permanent jobs. Every day, 1100 vehicles cross over

:01:15. > :01:17.the Tinsley Viaduct on the L1 Close by is the

:01:18. > :01:19.Meadowhall Shopping Centre A little further

:01:20. > :01:23.down the valley is Sheffield Arena The new IKEA will sit right

:01:24. > :01:26.alongside them on the site But the plans have been opposed

:01:27. > :01:30.by local campaigners, who claim the Kate Bradbrook joins us

:01:31. > :01:58.now live from the site. This waste ground behind me is where

:01:59. > :02:03.the new IKEA store will be built. At the moment, if you live in South

:02:04. > :02:14.Yorkshire and you want to shop in IKEA, you have two options. But all

:02:15. > :02:19.that is going to change in 2016 It is a global brand famous for

:02:20. > :02:24.affordable furniture and now it is on its way to South Yorkshire after

:02:25. > :02:29.plans were approved by Sheffield City Council this lunchtime. More

:02:30. > :02:33.than a decade after the ret`il giant first attempted to open a store

:02:34. > :02:37.here. The planning committee made their

:02:38. > :02:44.decision. They put on balance the positive regeneration aspects of

:02:45. > :02:49.IKEA coming to the city, thd ?6 million investment and 400 new

:02:50. > :02:55.jobs. But it seems flatpack furniture

:02:56. > :03:04.comes at a cost. Close to the medal haul shopping centre, it is an area

:03:05. > :03:08.with poor air quality. Now the city's director of public hdalth is

:03:09. > :03:12.warning the harm caused by the slight worsening of already poor air

:03:13. > :03:20.quality will comprise addithonal cases of respiratory and

:03:21. > :03:23.cardiovascular disease. It is this which has angered local

:03:24. > :03:29.people. If you are a family living here and

:03:30. > :03:32.you read the conclusion frol the Directors of Public Health xou will

:03:33. > :03:40.be thinking what has happendd here? Why is nobody bothered?

:03:41. > :03:45.This will significantly redtce our life span. In a nutshell, wd will

:03:46. > :03:50.die earlier than we expect. According to the counsellor in

:03:51. > :03:55.charge however, the positivd is still outweigh the negatives.

:03:56. > :03:59.Poverty also leads to premature deaths in the city and Sheffield has

:04:00. > :04:06.some of the biggest differentials in all I can inspect and see across the

:04:07. > :04:12.city. This scheme is a huge generation project bringing jobs for

:04:13. > :04:15.local people that helps to `lleviate some of those premature deaths from

:04:16. > :04:22.poverty. That is why you have to take a balanced position.

:04:23. > :04:27.On top of the 400 jobs at the store, another 200 will be created in

:04:28. > :04:32.construction. IKEA says this is its most sustainable store to d`te but

:04:33. > :04:39.how suitable location as wotld be known until it is built in 2016

:04:40. > :04:42.Why will this story be so sustainable? It says it will have

:04:43. > :04:48.solar panels in the store and also it will be harvesting rainw`ter It

:04:49. > :04:52.will also use electric vehicles for home deliveries. On top of that it

:04:53. > :04:57.is investing money in the local bus services and IKEA says it bdlieves

:04:58. > :05:03.this will be a catalyst for redevelopment in the area.

:05:04. > :05:05.In other news, an expert structural engineer has told the Hillsborough

:05:06. > :05:07.inquests he believes the Leppings Lane terraces were

:05:08. > :05:12.above capacity by 1700 people at the time of the disaster in 198 .

:05:13. > :05:15.John Cutlack told the hearing in Warrington that perimeter fence

:05:16. > :05:19.gates weren't wide enough and crush barriers did not meet guidelines.

:05:20. > :05:21.96 Liverpool fans died on the overcrowded terraces

:05:22. > :05:28.Police are looking for a man who's absconded from ` secure

:05:29. > :05:33.Gary Clark, who's 48, was bding held at Cheswold Park Hospital and was

:05:34. > :05:36.on an accompanied visit to the town centre when he escaped from staff.

:05:37. > :05:40.This is the second time a p`tient has escaped in the last month.

:05:41. > :05:44.Mr Clark was last seen headhng towards North Bridge,

:05:45. > :05:51.Police advise people not to approach him but to call 998.

:05:52. > :05:53.Two private colleges in Bradford have had their licences to sponsor

:05:54. > :05:57.foreign students suspended following an investigation by

:05:58. > :06:02.Bradford College of Managemdnt and Bradford Metropolitan College

:06:03. > :06:06.are among 57 across the country affected.

:06:07. > :06:09.The Metropolitan College sahd it was shocked by the news and was

:06:10. > :06:15.The site of Scarborough's Ftturist Theatre has been put on

:06:16. > :06:21.It's after claims that therd could be a grave

:06:22. > :06:23.on the site containing human remains were proved to be unfounded.

:06:24. > :06:26.The council hopes to attract a major developer to the thdatre

:06:27. > :06:28.on Scarborough's South Bay, with "big visions"

:06:29. > :06:34.The Business Secretary Vincd Cable has been in South Yorkshire to

:06:35. > :06:36.perform the topping out cerdmony for a multi`million pound transformation

:06:37. > :06:42.The Fox Valley development in Stocksbridge is next to

:06:43. > :06:48.Tata Steel and will include retail space, restaurants, 140 new houses,

:06:49. > :06:55.The ?42 million project is expected to create up to 900 jobs.

:06:56. > :07:11.It brings jobs, investment hn the top end of the steel industry, bring

:07:12. > :07:18.in new retail and the jobs associated with bringing in new

:07:19. > :07:23.housing, leisure facilities, all underpinned by European funding

:07:24. > :07:26.He's 91, lives in Canada, and his writing has made hil

:07:27. > :07:30.But Harry Leslie Smith grew up in Bradford in extreme poverty.

:07:31. > :07:36.We join him on an emotional journey back to his childhood haunts.

:07:37. > :07:40.I'm happy that it's over and yet I can't forget. I think some things

:07:41. > :07:46.are not meant to be forgottdn. Now, you may have noticed that much

:07:47. > :07:53.of Yorkshire is turning yellow with the Tour de France starting here

:07:54. > :07:59.in just eleven days. But some of you have been

:08:00. > :08:03.in touch to say, we know it?s a bike What do the different

:08:04. > :08:07.coloured jerseys mean? Over the next three days,

:08:08. > :08:09.our correspondent Matt Slatdr is going to offer you

:08:10. > :08:24.a beginner's guide about Believe it or not, the Tour de

:08:25. > :08:30.France has managed to becomd the biggest annual sports event without

:08:31. > :08:34.visiting godson counted before. It has been slow progress with lots of

:08:35. > :08:44.heavy going but the 101st tour will start in Leeds in good health. But

:08:45. > :08:50.what exactly is it? It is a 227 mile race that does not stop in

:08:51. > :08:54.Sheffield. There are two rest days which they need because thehr

:08:55. > :08:59.average speed is more than 24 mph. The winner is the fastest m`n to

:09:00. > :09:08.Paris and the leader in the general classification whereas the xellow

:09:09. > :09:13.jersey. British riders can't stop winning it, first Bradley Whggins

:09:14. > :09:22.and now Chris Froome. But there are other jerseys to win. There is a

:09:23. > :09:31.point competition for the sprinters. The best climbers create for the

:09:32. > :09:38.King of the Mountains. Tomorrow we will discuss teams and tacthcs and

:09:39. > :09:48.look at the size on Thursdax. There will be a quiz at the end.

:09:49. > :09:50.There is a lot more to it. Yes, and these distinct lack of

:09:51. > :09:53.Lycra. Well, up in the Dales, two tractors

:09:54. > :09:58.are being used to help spectators The tractors have been transformed

:09:59. > :10:02.into Wi`Fi hotspots with frde internet access

:10:03. > :10:03.for 500 metres around each vehicle. They'll be moving around

:10:04. > :10:06.the route to the busiest spots over It's hoped they'll get round

:10:07. > :10:24.the problem of poor internet access With the rural nature of thd route,

:10:25. > :10:28.it is important for people to have access to Wi`Fi. This fantastically

:10:29. > :10:35.clever idea of putting Wi`Fh together with tractors, means that

:10:36. > :10:39.people in the poor reception areas have had the problem solved. It just

:10:40. > :10:42.goes to show you how the environment, fields that have been

:10:43. > :10:46.here for thousands of years, combined with modern technology

:10:47. > :10:50.gives you a solution for thd 21st`century.

:10:51. > :10:53.Getting a signal is really difficult and lots of people want to tweak

:10:54. > :10:56.pictures. Great idea.

:10:57. > :10:59.If you're aiming to go out to see the Tour,

:11:00. > :11:02.the advice is to plan ahead, work out which roads will bd closed

:11:03. > :11:04.and whether you can get to xour destination on public transport

:11:05. > :11:07.Spencer Stokes has been to leet one Sheffield family who are determined

:11:08. > :11:13.to see as much of the race as possible.

:11:14. > :11:18.It is not just organisers of the Tour de France that have had

:11:19. > :11:22.logistical nightmares. Spectators have also been scratching their

:11:23. > :11:27.heads working out how to get to the right location. This family live

:11:28. > :11:29.near Sheffield and IBEC cycling fans. They hope to see the race on

:11:30. > :11:35.both days. It feels a bit surreal really having

:11:36. > :11:41.seen the Tour de France in France three times no. I would nevdr have

:11:42. > :11:46.envisaged it would come anywhere in England, let alone to Sheffheld It

:11:47. > :11:51.is all very exciting. But they are driving 100 miles to

:11:52. > :11:56.North Yorkshire where they have pre`booked a campsite from where

:11:57. > :12:01.they will watch it speed through. It is due to come around two o'clock

:12:02. > :12:08.the following day so we will watch it go through and then once the

:12:09. > :12:16.roads of reopens we can pack our tent up and head back to Shdffield

:12:17. > :12:24.to see day to. A tramp

:12:25. > :12:32.because of road closures, it would be sad to miss the tour as ` result

:12:33. > :12:37.of getting stuck in traffic so I'm glad we got a plan involving public

:12:38. > :12:41.transport. This is the destination, thd

:12:42. > :12:45.beautiful village of high Bradfield. In a straight line that is less than

:12:46. > :12:49.ten miles but on the day thd tours come, trains, trams and busds will

:12:50. > :12:55.have to be relied upon to come here and go back on again. This `rea has

:12:56. > :12:59.embraced the tour but for those who don't live on the route, is it worth

:13:00. > :13:06.travelling to a specific pohnt? Alice thinks so.

:13:07. > :13:11.Although it may seem like you are only there for two minutes watching

:13:12. > :13:15.the cyclists Ruch passed, it is more than that because there is ` big

:13:16. > :13:19.build`up and it is a really nice atmosphere.

:13:20. > :13:26.This bike ` the mad family will be leaving their bikes at home. Take

:13:27. > :13:31.something to sit on and plenty of water.

:13:32. > :13:34.That is real devotion to thd cause and we wish them well with that

:13:35. > :13:36.So how prepared are the train companies for all this?

:13:37. > :13:48.We have been planning for over a year and have put lots of rdsources

:13:49. > :13:57.into this. Have you got enough capacitx? We are

:13:58. > :14:06.providing as much capacity `s we can. We have plans to put as many

:14:07. > :14:13.carriages and services on as we can. It is rather ironic that people

:14:14. > :14:19.can't take bicycles on trains because there is only room for two.

:14:20. > :14:29.We are treating this as a spectator events because of demand so those

:14:30. > :14:34.who want to cycle are a advhsed to do so after words. You can still

:14:35. > :14:38.bring your bicycle but it whll take longer and you may not get on the

:14:39. > :14:42.first train you planned for and we anticipate it will be difficult to

:14:43. > :14:46.take bicycles. What about leading up to thd

:14:47. > :14:51.weekend? That is when peopld will be travelling.

:14:52. > :14:56.We have our normal services on Monday to Friday and straight after

:14:57. > :14:59.we have a normal service. The weekend is when we are concdntrating

:15:00. > :15:04.our additional services and we will be running as many services out of

:15:05. > :15:12.Leeds and Harrogate and into Manchester across the Calder

:15:13. > :15:14.Valley. We are putting additional resources into support this

:15:15. > :15:19.fantastic event. Have you got longer carriagds?

:15:20. > :15:24.Yes, we have brought extra carriages on. It is a weekend which mdans that

:15:25. > :15:30.Monday to Friday services c`n be redeployed on weekend services. We

:15:31. > :15:34.can deploy vehicles from elsewhere onto our services in Yorkshhre. We

:15:35. > :15:37.have had additional vehicles for the weekend, some charter trains that

:15:38. > :15:40.will come to supporters. Th`t is true of all rail operators hn

:15:41. > :15:44.Yorkshire. What is the advice on getting

:15:45. > :15:52.tickets, in advance? Yes, the earlier we know how you

:15:53. > :15:57.plan to travel the better. Xou can go to our website and that gives

:15:58. > :16:00.reduced rate travel on the weekend. And you are confident it will all

:16:01. > :16:06.work out? I am confident we have done enough.

:16:07. > :16:12.We are throwing everything we can at this. We are giving this a huge

:16:13. > :16:14.effort and pushing to the front of the pellet in and making a lassive

:16:15. > :16:24.effort. And a reminder that

:16:25. > :16:26.for the most up`to`date information about the Tour de France,

:16:27. > :16:28.including travel arrangements, you can visit the BBC websites

:16:29. > :16:40.for Leeds, Sheffield and York. And meet the Leeds athlete hoping to

:16:41. > :16:43.win a medal for Jamaica At 91 years old,

:16:44. > :16:49.Harry Leslie Smith has becole His views on poverty, war and

:16:50. > :16:55.politics have been shared on Twitter As a child, he grew up

:16:56. > :17:03.in extreme poverty in Bradford. Look North's Emma Glasbey took him

:17:04. > :17:11.back to visit his childhood home. It's unbelievable,

:17:12. > :17:16.I can't believe it's still there. This is

:17:17. > :17:18.the first time Harry has bedn back As a boy, he lived here in Bradford

:17:19. > :17:26.in what was a squalid doss house. Returning here to Bradford brings

:17:27. > :17:38.back traumatic childhood melories. Today,

:17:39. > :17:42.91`year`old Harry has travelled from It's almost as

:17:43. > :17:51.though I have stepped back hn time. I think some things are not

:17:52. > :18:00.meant to be forgotten. I am simply distraught

:18:01. > :18:03.at the thought of letting His sister died of tuberculosis

:18:04. > :18:14.his family broke apart here and he was forced to work at seven so it is

:18:15. > :18:20.a gutting experience for hil. Harry grew up in Bradford in the

:18:21. > :18:23.1930s during the Great Deprdssion. As an author, his latest book,

:18:24. > :18:31.Harry's Last Stand, talks about his fears of falilies

:18:32. > :18:36.today becoming desperately poor His outspoken views have made him

:18:37. > :18:40.something of an internet sensation. His Guardian columns have bden

:18:41. > :18:50.shared across Facebook 60,000 times. Harry recognises this

:18:51. > :18:53.place instantly. As a child,

:18:54. > :18:57.he came to Lister Park to play. Imagine you are living as children

:18:58. > :19:04.in a house full of poor people who have nothing to look forward to and

:19:05. > :19:12.have no hope, so you are looking for Harry left Bradford and joined the

:19:13. > :19:21.RAF before becoming a busindssman. Today he hopes he can inspire people

:19:22. > :19:43.to believe that life can get better. Very touching.

:19:44. > :19:45.An extraordinary story and `mazing to see whole pizzas memories to good

:19:46. > :19:50.use his publishing. Let's turn to sport now,

:19:51. > :19:54.and the new head coach of the Bradford Bulls says he isn't

:19:55. > :19:56.writing the season off, James Lowes has left rugby tnion

:19:57. > :20:01.side Leeds Carnegie to sign He takes over with the Bulls nine

:20:02. > :20:05.points adrift of safety in Super League, with two teams to be

:20:06. > :20:08.relegated at the end of the season. You'll struggle to find a more

:20:09. > :20:10.down to earth character. James Lowes is not a man

:20:11. > :20:13.for flowery talk and self ptblicity but he is back at the club he served

:20:14. > :20:17.with such distinction as a player. In his day, they won trophy

:20:18. > :20:21.after trophy, now they are staring We are just going to have

:20:22. > :20:26.to to have a good go. You are heavily relying on teams

:20:27. > :20:29.above you to lose every gamd. We have to be realistic

:20:30. > :20:41.about where we are at. I've put a couple of plans hn

:20:42. > :20:44.place in the next couple of weeks. He played the game with passion

:20:45. > :20:46.determination Traits that clearly

:20:47. > :20:50.haven't left him. He said, let me control this,

:20:51. > :20:58.let me have this, The weekend's loss to Hull KR was

:20:59. > :21:05.another nail in the coffin They will decide

:21:06. > :21:12.in the next 24 hours whether to launch a High Court appeal

:21:13. > :21:15.against their six`point dedtction We are as convinced as we c`n be

:21:16. > :21:22.that if we go into court, we will win in court and for a short

:21:23. > :21:26.period we will get our points back. Whether we keep them is

:21:27. > :21:28.a different argument But there is no point spendhng that

:21:29. > :21:33.money and taking on that fight if even if we get them back there is

:21:34. > :21:37.no benefit to the club. The likelihood is that

:21:38. > :21:39.Bradford Bulls will be in rtgby The hope is that they have found

:21:40. > :21:44.the right man to get them b`ck out In cricket, it's been a good day

:21:45. > :21:54.for Yorkshire as they sealed victory on day three of their Countx

:21:55. > :21:57.Championship match at Edgbaston They dismissed Warwickshire

:21:58. > :22:00.for 186 in their second innhngs to It keeps Yorkshire at the top

:22:01. > :22:35.of the County Championship table. Leeds can now boast a new star and

:22:36. > :22:52.here's a diver from a country that doesn't boast a single springboard.

:22:53. > :23:00.This club boasts seven of the England team for Scotland btt there

:23:01. > :23:06.is also a local lad making ` bit of history. Thanks to his dad 's

:23:07. > :23:12.nationality, he will take p`rt in the common good games for J`maica.

:23:13. > :23:15.With Great Britain, I find ht hard to get the opportunities, as much as

:23:16. > :23:28.I appreciate the help he had been giving me over the years. I think

:23:29. > :23:33.there is a little bit of rivalry between my parents but all ly family

:23:34. > :23:39.are really supportive of me competing for Jamaica.

:23:40. > :23:43.What is it going to be like for you making a bit of history at the

:23:44. > :23:46.Commonwealth Games? It is deftly going to play on my

:23:47. > :23:50.mind and make me nervous but I'm really proud to do it. But H'm still

:23:51. > :23:55.there to do the best I can diving. I can't worry about that at all. I

:23:56. > :23:57.just got to concentrate on the competition and do what I nded to

:23:58. > :24:00.do. And what can you do for divhng in

:24:01. > :24:08.Jamaica? Hopefully I will inspire sole young

:24:09. > :24:14.kids to take part. It is not a big sport there. They don't havd any

:24:15. > :24:17.springboards, they have somd old towers. Hopefully I will be able to

:24:18. > :24:22.reignite something over there and get some kids involved.

:24:23. > :24:27.After the Commonwealth Games, next game will be the Olympics.

:24:28. > :24:31.I have seen how excited thex get every time any of their Olylpians

:24:32. > :24:37.compete, even the Winter Olxmpics when they have their bobslehgh team
