:00:25. > :00:26.But although the Supreme Court ruled agahnst him,

:00:27. > :00:31.it did urge parliament to examine the law, as Spencer Stokes reports.

:00:35. > :00:39.24 years ago, the former buhlder was paralysed from the neck down.

:00:40. > :00:45.He fears that the day will come when his life is no longer worth living.

:00:46. > :00:48.Since last year, he's been fighting a legal battle to have the ban on

:00:49. > :00:55.The Supreme Court began hearing the case last December,

:00:56. > :00:58.and today seven out of nine judges rejected the appeal.

:00:59. > :01:03.I don't deserve to be punished like this.

:01:04. > :01:12.I'm now at the stage where there is anger with me because it is

:01:13. > :01:18.But many doctors are extremdly uneasy about any change to

:01:19. > :01:24.the assisted suicide law, and they have welcomed today's ruling.

:01:25. > :01:26.The Supreme Court have made the correct decision and it's in

:01:27. > :01:32.This is clearly a very diffhcult and emotive area,

:01:33. > :01:38.If the line in the sand movds, and it's a massive change to

:01:39. > :01:40.the criminal law, then people could become coerced, encouraged to think

:01:41. > :01:45.If they are seen as a burden, as costing too much money.

:01:46. > :01:47.It's difficult to compare to other jurisdictions, but in

:01:48. > :01:49.Washington State, where asshsted suicide is legal, 61 percent

:01:50. > :01:53.of people who've gone for assisted suicide have said that they've done

:01:54. > :02:03.It now seems this will becole a matter for MPs to decide on,

:02:04. > :02:16.the highest court in the cotntry thinks it's time for elected

:02:17. > :02:19.politicians to give the fin`l ruling on the right to die. Previots court

:02:20. > :02:23.rulings have maintained that assisted suicide is a matter for

:02:24. > :02:25.Parliament, but today's Supreme Court jtdgement

:02:26. > :02:31.goes a step further, suggesting that MPs tackle this thorny issud.

:02:32. > :02:39.Paul's case may now become a matter of political debatd.

:02:40. > :02:42.Doncaster Council is set to give up the residential

:02:43. > :02:46.The cabinet voted this afternoon to farm its remaining seven holes out

:02:47. > :02:49.to a charitable trust, or close them all together `nd move

:04:47. > :04:55.A man has been charged with the murder of a man who was beaten
