:00:00. > :00:17.Good evening and welcome to Thursday's Look North.

:00:18. > :00:24.To take the sport to hold an eye on getting a real tangle about this.

:00:25. > :00:42.The opening ceremony is takhng place behind us right now. Just two days

:00:43. > :00:52.to go until the race starts and tonight, all 198 of the raiders are

:00:53. > :00:55.taking part in the opening ceremony. We will also catch up with some of

:00:56. > :01:02.the famous faces taking part in the opening ceremony. To have it on our

:01:03. > :01:09.home turf is quite a big honour owner of two pit bulls which savaged

:01:10. > :01:24.to death a pregnant woman is spared There is going to be a festhval of

:01:25. > :01:27.cycling here, but there's also a big campsite and I am going to tell

:01:28. > :01:29.these campers whether it is going to be wet or not over the next few

:01:30. > :01:33.days. Welcome to the programme.

:01:34. > :01:36.We are at Leeds Arena, as the world's largest annual sporting

:01:37. > :01:38.event is officially underwax. The opening ceremony has just begun.

:01:39. > :01:41.We should be able to show you some of that later in the progralme, but

:01:42. > :01:45.198 Tour De France cyclists are now making their way from the university

:01:46. > :02:01.down to us here, to take centre We will bring you some of the leader

:02:02. > :02:08.in the programme. We have sden one of the first teams cycling past It

:02:09. > :02:12.is all about the 198 cyclists tonight. They are making thdir way

:02:13. > :02:19.from Leeds University to take centre stage here. You have covered a lot

:02:20. > :02:26.of tools in your time. Have you seen anything like this? This is the

:02:27. > :02:33.biggest opening ceremony th`t has ever been put on for me Tour de

:02:34. > :02:42.France. There's a lot of razzmatazz. I think this is a real innovation.

:02:43. > :02:47.The great thing about this dvent is, you do not have to buy a ticket and

:02:48. > :02:52.you get to the European noise when they come through the streets. Now,

:02:53. > :02:58.we have some of the teams hdre, this is one of the smaller ones, but

:02:59. > :03:07.Bradley Wiggins actually st`rted his career with them a few years ago.

:03:08. > :03:10.So, with the global spotlight now on Yorkshire, how can our businesses

:03:11. > :03:11.take advantage? Our business correspondent Danni

:03:12. > :03:13.Hewson reports from the Grand Depart International Business Festhval in

:03:14. > :03:37.If there's one thing Yorkshhre people are good, it is figuring out

:03:38. > :03:45.how make money. There are a a lot of companies to meet. For sports

:03:46. > :03:52.industries, it is a great opportunity to meet people `nd do

:03:53. > :03:55.business. This is the first time a business conference has been

:03:56. > :03:58.organised to coincide with the opening of the two are diffdrent and

:03:59. > :04:08.it is likely to be a future innovation. It is stage one for the

:04:09. > :04:17.race, but also stage one for us for a long`term plan. Events ard

:04:18. > :04:25.targeted, so potential buyers and the health care sector spent the

:04:26. > :04:33.afternoon visiting this factory in Rotherham. Yorkshire is a rdal

:04:34. > :04:38.centre of excellence for thd industries. It is a fantasthc

:04:39. > :04:45.platform to tell the world `bout the great technology we have in being

:04:46. > :04:50.produced and enervated here in Yorkshire. If the joints do not

:04:51. > :04:55.catch the fancy, how about the suits? A celebration of the textile

:04:56. > :05:06.manufacturers in the region. They are looking to expand into larkets

:05:07. > :05:10.such as China. China is a good market for luxury goods, but it is

:05:11. > :05:14.also a matter of exposing the company to them and that is what

:05:15. > :05:21.we're hoping this will do. No one with interest in the underestimates

:05:22. > :05:29.the tour fever. To harness the enthusiasm and energy and thme it

:05:30. > :05:32.into something concrete, like jobs, where people are coming to visit

:05:33. > :05:42.Yorkshire, businesses, openhng up offices here, some people coming

:05:43. > :05:44.here most are wondering how far it was from London. Now they h`ve the

:05:45. > :05:47.answer. Now, the police operation for the

:05:48. > :05:50.Grand Depart has also been ` massive event.

:05:51. > :05:53.In fact, it has been a year in the planning.

:05:54. > :05:54.Joining us is Assistant Chidf Constable Mark Milsom, the lan in

:05:55. > :05:56.charge. So, what about the riders

:05:57. > :05:57.themselves? Several of the teams have bden

:05:58. > :06:08.holding their pre`race press How much of the challenge h`s this

:06:09. > :06:14.been? Yorkshire always comes together for the big occasion. All

:06:15. > :06:19.the police forces have come together and the other emergency services and

:06:20. > :06:26.the councils, so it has been a big team effort. We are absolutdly

:06:27. > :06:35.delighted. The police raiders were also out today, which was a sight to

:06:36. > :06:40.behold. Yes, there are about 80 police motorcyclists out and about

:06:41. > :06:45.on the route. We wanted to lake people aware that they will be

:06:46. > :06:55.coming through. There are s`fety issues. It was a friendly rdminder.

:06:56. > :06:59.He also had the French police here? Yes, it has been a real ple`sure

:07:00. > :07:07.working with them, although the always kiss you finally meet you, so

:07:08. > :07:13.I am not so sure about that. Clearly, these are challenghng

:07:14. > :07:18.times. It was an event that which you obviously want to run sloothly.

:07:19. > :07:23.That is why we plan it over such a long time. We look at all

:07:24. > :07:32.eventualities and make sure we are ready if something should h`ppen.

:07:33. > :07:35.The number of people who cotld be involved is obviously an issue? Yes,

:07:36. > :07:43.the amount of people involvdd and also the amount of places that are

:07:44. > :07:50.being involved as well. We `re expecting a very friendly code. Yes,

:07:51. > :07:56.we are expecting a family code, a cycling code. We are expecthng them

:07:57. > :08:00.to get a fantastic welcome. Of course, the Raiders have bedn

:08:01. > :08:03.arriving over the last couple of days and today has been verx

:08:04. > :08:10.exciting because news conferences have been taking place just about

:08:11. > :08:17.everywhere. No, just what about the raiders themselves? You can see that

:08:18. > :08:23.bakes, but no one is on thel. The days just before the tour are

:08:24. > :08:29.fraught with danger. A crash, an illness. No one faces more of these

:08:30. > :08:36.than the defending champion. It helps if the boss can see them off

:08:37. > :08:42.with the charm offensive. Yesterday, I drove up the motorway

:08:43. > :08:52.and I saw all these signs as I was driving up, it said possibld delays

:08:53. > :08:57.due to the two different onds. It made me stop and think. It hs

:08:58. > :09:04.amazing that we are starting at like this in Yorkshire. It is not easy

:09:05. > :09:07.getting ready for it. You h`ve to put yourself through a lot of

:09:08. > :09:14.training and beyond the start line mentally physically fit. Each one of

:09:15. > :09:22.the name guys has done that. We are ready for this. Great kiss from a

:09:23. > :09:28.close second was Mark Cavendish He had a lot of support in the room.

:09:29. > :09:37.This is a massive short of we are cycling has now got to. The amount

:09:38. > :09:44.of people embracing it is jtst blows your mind. I am looking forward to

:09:45. > :09:50.taking that all end. The he`d of teams carriers and they are

:09:51. > :09:56.somewhere. He has just almost completed his first round of daily

:09:57. > :09:59.interviews. It all starts on Saturday and they know they are

:10:00. > :10:09.going to get a lot of support along these roads. We have seen another

:10:10. > :10:26.team go past. We saw a Russhan team, a French team. They have a

:10:27. > :10:34.substitute, Scott, who it would be nice if you get the chance. Towards

:10:35. > :10:44.the end, we may get the Australian team, who have the British raider.

:10:45. > :10:51.The British riders have been saying it is great to be in Yorkshhre and

:10:52. > :10:56.for to be starting in Great Britain. They are very excited. The sponsors

:10:57. > :11:03.of obviously noticed a really Raiders have engaged with the

:11:04. > :11:09.public. Have you heard the response from the foreign raiders? Yds, they

:11:10. > :11:13.all seem to be enjoying it. They have all remarked on the fact that

:11:14. > :11:20.we have really grabbed the opportunity to promote the race We

:11:21. > :11:25.will speak to you later. We will have you on because you know what

:11:26. > :11:29.you are talking about! Now, obviously a lot of roads will be

:11:30. > :11:35.closed for the tour, starting tomorrow. You can tune into local

:11:36. > :11:42.radio to have all the inforlation and we will also have some

:11:43. > :11:47.information to mention to hdlp you get around. Whether you are watching

:11:48. > :12:00.it live or on television. Another team is coming pastors. The as

:12:01. > :12:09.Simon. Give us a wave! He h`s got a twin brother, and, as well. You can

:12:10. > :12:15.also go on TV website to get all the information, and features. Lots of

:12:16. > :12:19.you have been asking us exactly where the tour is coming through,

:12:20. > :12:24.but we will be telling you `ll about that later in the programme.

:12:25. > :12:27.The owner of two pit bull dogs which mauled to death his pregnant partner

:12:28. > :12:30.in Leeds has been spared jahl, because a district judge sahd he had

:12:31. > :12:32.expressed his deep remorse for the horrific attack.

:12:33. > :12:36.But he told Lee Horner he would have to live the rest of his lifd with

:12:37. > :12:51.the responsibility for and the torment of Emma Bennett's ddath

:12:52. > :13:02.On December the 9th last ye`r, a dog stands outside, a second cornered by

:13:03. > :13:10.police. It had fatally attacked a young mother. Emma Bennett Was

:13:11. > :13:19.pregnant with her fifth child when attacked by the dog of Lee Horner.

:13:20. > :13:22.Today, the Magistrates' Court was told it was not clear why the

:13:23. > :13:31.previously passive dogs had turned Emma Bennett on. Neighbours remember

:13:32. > :13:41.hearing the woman screaming. She died after suffering severe dog

:13:42. > :13:47.bites, in the hospital. The Deputy district judge told Lee Horner he

:13:48. > :13:54.would have to be for the rest of his life has torment of the death of the

:13:55. > :14:01.love of his life, but because he showed remorse, they said hd would

:14:02. > :14:06.not be sent to prison. He w`s sentenced to 280 hours unpahd

:14:07. > :14:11.community work. He must also pay ?100 of having the dogs destroyed.

:14:12. > :14:13.He has been banned for life for keeping dogs. He refused to comment

:14:14. > :14:22.after leaving the court. Supermarket chain Asda is to cut

:14:23. > :14:25.1,360 jobs, as part of an overhaul of its store management strtcture.

:14:26. > :14:28.The move comes two months after the Leeds`based chain, which has nearly

:14:29. > :14:31.600 stores in the UK, warned that around 4,000 roles were at risk

:14:32. > :14:34.because of a need to reduce the Letters have been sent to thousands

:14:35. > :14:40.of patients across Chesterfheld telling them that plans to split a

:14:41. > :14:43.troubled GP surgery in Stavdley away from its parent company havd been

:14:44. > :14:44.shelved. The Rectory Road practice h`s been

:14:45. > :14:47.investigated by NHS England over a number of concerns, including

:14:48. > :14:49.continuity of care and patidnt access.

:14:50. > :14:51.A report published in Febru`ry recommended the practice should be

:14:52. > :14:53.split from the Holywell Medhcal Group and taken over by another

:14:54. > :15:13.provider, but one could not be I think patients will be very

:15:14. > :15:23.disappointed at this stage. There were promises made. They were

:15:24. > :15:26.competition requirements and because of the GP shortage crisis.

:15:27. > :15:28.West Yorkshire's Police Comlissioner Mark Burns`Williamson has sdcured a

:15:29. > :15:31.?200,000 grant from The Minhstry for Justice to create a network to help

:22:59. > :23:07.you think the event will show off Yorkshire? I am sure it will. As

:23:08. > :23:25.regards cycling, I used to do a lot of it. That is fantastic. Wd will

:23:26. > :23:30.look out for you. Well done. What is special to you about the race? I

:23:31. > :23:37.think it is brilliant that hs so much support, it makes you really

:23:38. > :23:44.proud of the region. No French, no German here. Yorkshire born all of

:23:45. > :23:51.them. We are going to cross over to Paul. I can hear some jeering,

:23:52. > :24:01.actually. I think another tdam is coming round the corner. We can just

:24:02. > :24:11.see them know in the green jerseys. There's Michael Rogers. There's a

:24:12. > :24:21.battle can't adore, a previous winner of the race. He is in great

:24:22. > :24:23.form this year. We need to cross over to Paul. He has got thd latest

:24:24. > :24:37.weather forecast. It is perfectly in North Yorks. What

:24:38. > :24:43.a fantastic sport. You can watch the race go back live and watch all the

:24:56. > :25:01.few of the photographs sent in over the last day. This was a prhmary

:25:02. > :25:10.school. In the shape of our basic call. Terrific. And look at this

:25:11. > :25:18.lamb and these look like beds buzzing in the countryside. A look

:25:19. > :25:28.at this one. And this one m`de me laugh. Man in a bush after ` cycling

:25:29. > :25:36.accident. Fantastic. Please keep them coming in. Now, some overnight

:25:37. > :25:43.rain to clear on Saturday morning, but hopefully, it should be clear by

:25:44. > :25:50.the time the race starts and some sunshine in the afternoon on

:25:51. > :25:55.Saturday. On Sunday, a sunnx start, but clouds will bubble up in the

:25:56. > :26:02.afternoon and roll we will see a scattering of showers, with some

:26:03. > :26:07.good spells in between. I temperatures of 20 Celsius. This

:26:08. > :26:13.evening, the sun is out. A purge of rain as possible both this dvening

:26:14. > :26:25.and overnight. Another one of these very mild nights. Just the risk of a

:26:26. > :26:31.bit of patchy rain. Tomorrow morning, again the chance of a light

:26:32. > :26:35.piece of rain. It is a mostly cloudy day, with Easter Navy is a lostly

:26:36. > :26:40.cloudy day, with Easter nearly as generally speaking, the morning is

:26:41. > :26:45.dry, but through the afternoon, this weather front comes across the

:26:46. > :26:52.region from west to east. Thoroughly wet by the end of the afternoon

:26:53. > :27:06.Temperature is not bad, up hnto the 21, 20 2 degrees region. Thd further

:27:07. > :27:11.Outlook, Saturday, overnight rain clearing and then brightens nicely.

:27:12. > :27:16.Sunny spells in the afternoon. Sunday, a sunny start, with a view

:27:17. > :27:29.heavy showers in the afternoon. Back to you. Thank you, the Amerhcan team

:27:30. > :27:32.have just arrived. We will review some some of the pictures from

:27:33. > :27:35.inside the opening ceremony. Good night.
