:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening. Welcome to Monday s Look North.
:00:00. > :00:07.One bike race, two unforgettable days and three
:00:08. > :00:14.Yes, this weekend the Tour de France arrived in Yorkshire,
:00:15. > :00:22.making it the grandest Grand Depart in its history.
:00:23. > :00:29.It is just incredible, unbelievable, amazing!
:00:30. > :00:32.Entire communities came togdther to support the world's elite cxclists.
:00:33. > :00:34.We've never witnessed scenes like this in Yorkshire before.
:00:35. > :00:54.They are holding a party for after the tour. They had so much fun they
:00:55. > :00:59.do not want it to stop! And it's showtime again tomorrow with the
:01:00. > :01:02.Great Yorkshire Show. It is the biggest agricultural show in
:01:03. > :01:11.England. Will the fine weather last?
:01:12. > :01:15.But first tonight to the amazing scenes as Yorkshire
:01:16. > :01:17.delivered the Tour de Francd to a worldwide audience.
:01:18. > :01:19.Spectators came out in their millions to line the roadsides
:01:20. > :01:23.and the hillsides to support the professional cycling superstars
:01:24. > :01:25.Today the organisers have ddscribed Yorkshire's response to the race
:01:26. > :01:28.as a 'game changer' and said it was the grandest Grand
:01:29. > :01:35.Even the riders claimed thex'd never experience anything like it again.
:01:36. > :01:53.Ian Bucknell reports on Yorkshire's big weekend.
:01:54. > :01:59.After three years of planning and persuasion, the greatest cycle race
:02:00. > :02:10.in the world arrived in Yorkshire. The grandest of Grand Departs. The
:02:11. > :02:16.official starting line at the Royal seal of approval from Willi`m and
:02:17. > :02:26.Katherine. We had to be herd because it might never be here again. The
:02:27. > :02:38.atmosphere is amazing. The Xorkshire Dales saw people gather in good
:02:39. > :02:46.numbers. Very fortunate to be at the top of the cover. We must h`ve one
:02:47. > :02:53.of the best views. 10,000 well`wishers turned out herd almost
:02:54. > :03:00.making it impassable. As thdy neared the finish, good a local lad when
:03:01. > :03:06.the first leg? The faces of the Mark Cavendish Fanclub tell the story. I
:03:07. > :03:14.was really determined. I wanted to win for all those people but that's
:03:15. > :03:20.not how it happened. The two would have a lot to live up to. There is
:03:21. > :03:25.still an hour to go before the riders come through but the crowds
:03:26. > :03:33.are already out in force. York has been gripped by the Tour de France.
:03:34. > :03:40.It's the third largest sporting event in the world behind the World
:03:41. > :03:50.Cup and the Olympics. It is pretty exciting to be here during the Tour
:03:51. > :03:58.de France in my new local home. From North Yorkshire to West Yorkshire.
:03:59. > :04:06.It is just like Emmerdale on television. Super pretty. Everyone
:04:07. > :04:14.has made a big effort. It is very nice to see. Next, the longdst
:04:15. > :04:27.climb. Before the highest point at Holme Moss. It's been great The
:04:28. > :04:31.wall of support continued into Sheffield and top the steepdst
:04:32. > :04:36.ascent of the tour. It wasn't just the cyclists reaching new hdights.
:04:37. > :04:44.But punishing ascent set up victory. No win for the British but
:04:45. > :04:50.plenty of praise for Yorkshhre. The support is unreal. I was full of
:04:51. > :04:57.goose bumps. It was such a lassive crowd, it was just incredible. After
:04:58. > :05:03.Mark Cavendish crashed out, there was no Yorkshire hero in thd race.
:05:04. > :05:08.But the effort they made to host the tour was truly heroic.
:05:09. > :05:11.Amazing scenes and a feat of organisation which has bden
:05:12. > :05:25.I never thought I would be part of anything better than London 201 but
:05:26. > :05:26.this was. Well, the organisers
:05:27. > :05:28.behind its success can justhfiably I caught up with three of them,
:05:29. > :05:40.minutes after stage two enddd This is what the tour meant to the
:05:41. > :05:45.people of Sheffield. He crowed you could only dream about. Emotion and
:05:46. > :05:51.prayed all over. And first saw Rodney Walker, thanks all round The
:05:52. > :05:57.committee only started ten lonths ago. What it brilliant job they have
:05:58. > :06:03.done. This would not be possible without the support of a lot of
:06:04. > :06:08.people. The Government put ?10 million in an sudden local
:06:09. > :06:15.authorities, just in Yorkshhre. When you add it all up, it has bden a
:06:16. > :06:20.tremendous effort. I am verx proud and privileged to be part of it For
:06:21. > :06:28.the core's main man, it was a gamble coming year. They soon realhsed on
:06:29. > :06:39.day one that it wasn't. I w`s 1 0% sure it would be a success. The Tour
:06:40. > :06:43.de France is very popular btt what we saw yesterday and today hs just
:06:44. > :06:56.unbelievable, incredible, astonishing, amazing! And so to Gary
:06:57. > :07:08.Verity. Exhausted, trained, but the proudest man in Yorkshire. Preceding
:07:09. > :07:14.the pellet on `` cyclists and seeing the huge crowds of people. H
:07:15. > :07:21.couldn't see the usual landlarks. It was just unbelievable. In France,
:07:22. > :07:25.they would give you a kiss. Well the Tour De France party
:07:26. > :07:27.certainly hasn't ended although there will have been a few sore
:07:28. > :07:30.heads around this morning, H'm sure! In Holme Moss they simply don't want
:07:31. > :07:33.it to end, so they've organhsed an apres`tour tea party and invited
:07:34. > :07:46.our Tour De France correspondent Matt, I'm sure another partx is what
:07:47. > :07:59.you could do without. You h`ve covered five tourists. The special
:08:00. > :08:03.was this one? `` how special? We will try to get back to Matt later
:08:04. > :08:07.on. He has obviously having a great time.
:08:08. > :08:09.We've got loads more to tell you about Le Tour
:08:10. > :08:14.The eyes of the world were on the region ` so what did they
:08:15. > :08:22.We've been with the air ambtlance seeing how they responded over
:08:23. > :08:24.the weekend and the army of volunteer Tour Makers who'vd helped
:08:25. > :08:38.An 18`year`old man has pleaded guilty to the murder of

:12:18. > :12:22.France, but I think they were impressed by the number of
