:01:55. > :02:00.month. She wants a tougher line against Israel. Over the last four
:02:01. > :02:05.weeks I have done everything I can at meetings trying to convince my
:02:06. > :02:10.colleagues that our current policy on Gaza is morally indefensible. It
:02:11. > :02:13.is not a British interests and will have consequences for us both
:02:14. > :02:19.internationally and here at home. In the end, I felt the government
:02:20. > :02:24.position was not right and as a point of principle I had to resign.
:02:25. > :02:28.It is an issue that has generated strong feelings here in Yorkshire in
:02:29. > :02:35.recent weeks. Thousands have demonstrated in Bradford mostly in
:02:36. > :02:40.support of the Palestinians. Organisers on delighted at what
:02:41. > :02:47.baroness Basi has done. `` Baroness Warsi.
:02:48. > :02:57.To prove that she is against what is happening in Gaza. On the other
:02:58. > :03:00.side, this was a demonstration in Leeds last month organised by the
:03:01. > :03:06.Jewish community. The action there today was different. The government
:03:07. > :03:12.is trying to take it position whereby it is trying to effect
:03:13. > :03:16.change in that region. Taking one side or another will not achieve
:03:17. > :03:22.that. We want a permanent cease`fire and demilitarisation of her mass.
:03:23. > :03:27.Baroness Warsi was born here in Dewsbury. She's become one of the
:03:28. > :03:32.most prominent politicians in the country. Her colleagues may disagree
:03:33. > :03:40.with but she has had plenty of support on the streets. She has done
:03:41. > :03:43.an honourable thing. For humanity sake. She has taken a bold decision.
:03:44. > :03:56.I thank her. I support. I think Israel has gone
:03:57. > :04:01.beyond what can I say? Baroness Warsi said she is leaving with deep
:04:02. > :04:02.regret and hope the government will change and approach that she is
:04:03. > :04:08.calling morally indefensible. The High Court in Leeds has today
:04:09. > :04:11.quashed a planned rent increase A judge ruled that the proposal
:04:12. > :04:14.by Leeds City Council was unlawful. Now legal experts are warning
:04:15. > :04:17.that councils will need to make sure their future budget
:04:18. > :04:33.decisions comply with the law. They are local gardeners taken on
:04:34. > :04:40.Leeds City Council. Today at the court they won their fight. The
:04:41. > :04:44.judge quashed a planned rent increase for allotment tenants
:04:45. > :04:51.saying it was unlawful. This is local people taking on the big boys.
:04:52. > :04:59.It has been stressful. We don't get paid for this. It has been very
:05:00. > :05:03.good. Allotments are very popular in Leeds. There are almost 4000 of them
:05:04. > :05:08.across the city and there is a waiting list. Some tenants feared
:05:09. > :05:13.they may have to give up their plot if the rent is increased. Allotment
:05:14. > :05:20.holders on a site like this have been paying ?37 a year for a full
:05:21. > :05:28.plot. The council wanted to increase that to ?58 by the end of this year.
:05:29. > :05:32.And then by 2016 to ?72 a year. Two thirds of the rent on some sites
:05:33. > :05:37.like this one is retained by volunteers for maintenance. But the
:05:38. > :05:40.council wanted to change that so most of the money went to the local
:05:41. > :05:47.authority instead. The allotment holders felt that was morally wrong.
:05:48. > :05:52.The decision was unlawful and on fire. We tried to talk to the
:05:53. > :05:58.council to persuade them to look at it again and they refused. We have
:05:59. > :06:06.been lift with no choice. The planned rent hike was ruled to be
:06:07. > :06:09.unlawful. What could this mean for future financial decisions by
:06:10. > :06:16.councils? The overall message is that councils need to take difficult
:06:17. > :06:24.budget decisions and they have two take regard to whether they are
:06:25. > :06:26.agreeing with the law. Council leaders have told us they are
:06:27. > :06:29.disappointed to have lost on a narrow point of law. They said they
:06:30. > :06:33.will now consider an appeal. The Shadow Chancellor of the
:06:34. > :06:35.Exchequer and West Yorkshire MP Ed Balls has been fined ?900 and given
:06:36. > :06:39.five penalty points after failing to stop after a minor accident in his
:06:40. > :06:42.constituency in Morley last April. It was the fourth motoring offence
