:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening you're watching Wednesday's Look North.

:00:00. > :00:08.Keep politics out of Bradford ` community leaders unite to condemn

:00:09. > :00:10.George Galloway and the Israeli ambassador

:00:11. > :00:16.Our big concern now is Bradford is becoming a PR war zone

:00:17. > :00:23.That is something we must, at all costs, avoid.

:00:24. > :00:27.We'll ask the deputy ambassador to Israel why he came to Bradford.

:00:28. > :00:31.More apprenticeships for Yorkshire's young people, but concerns that more

:00:32. > :00:35.than half the businesses who signed trainees up are now dropping out.

:00:36. > :00:38.Future gain from our industrial past as three Yorkshire landmarks make it

:00:39. > :00:52.We've had a lot of bite awareness about today. I will be back later

:00:53. > :01:00.with all the news for tomorrow. But first tonight to claims that

:01:01. > :01:03.a Bradford MP and a senior Israeli diplomat are deliberately provoking

:01:04. > :01:07.tension in the city. George Galloway was last night

:01:08. > :01:10.questioned under caution by West Yorkshire Police over a speech

:01:11. > :01:13.in which he said Bradford had been In response, the Embassy of Israel

:01:14. > :01:21.posted pictures on Twitter of their Ambassador waving the Israeli flag

:01:22. > :01:24.beside a 'Welcome to Bradford' sign. Community leaders have condemned

:01:25. > :01:46.both for their actions. They can be no doubting the strong

:01:47. > :01:51.feelings. Recent pro`Palestinian demonstrations in the city have been

:01:52. > :01:57.peaceful and supported by many from different religions. But then George

:01:58. > :02:04.Galloway made these comments. We have declared Bradford and Israel

:02:05. > :02:08.free zone. He has now been interviewed by police under caution.

:02:09. > :02:12.This week the Israeli ambassador to Bradford.

:02:13. > :02:25.He has been criticised the treating these pictures of his visit. My big

:02:26. > :02:30.concern is now Bradford is becoming a PR war zone. We need to be careful

:02:31. > :02:35.of how people use this conflict in order to gain what their political

:02:36. > :02:40.agenda is. I am absolutely confident that the people of Bradford can

:02:41. > :02:46.rationalise that. It is a message that is supported by Bradford

:02:47. > :02:50.Council. If these diplomats and politicians want to have these

:02:51. > :02:57.debates and arguments about the international situation in Gaza,

:02:58. > :02:59.which are of great concern to everybody, they should find

:03:00. > :03:07.somewhere else to do it and not in Bradford. This is Bradford's only

:03:08. > :03:10.synagogue. It was in threat of closure. But the communities came

:03:11. > :03:17.together to save it. Now this bridge building is as simple all of

:03:18. > :03:22.Bradford as a multi`faith city. And the bond between the religions is

:03:23. > :03:27.clearly a strong one. I'd say the relationships are very good. We meet

:03:28. > :03:33.together, we talk together and this doesn't do any help anyone. More

:03:34. > :03:39.protests are inevitable now Middle East peace talks collapsed but

:03:40. > :03:40.community leaders say they won't let elliptical rows caused tensions in

:03:41. > :03:42.this city. Well earlier I spoke to

:03:43. > :03:46.Deputy Ambassador Aytan Naeh, who's been in Yorkshire today, and I

:03:47. > :03:49.began by asking him for his reaction I think the benchmark

:03:50. > :03:57.for every statement or behaviour should be to help to bring

:03:58. > :04:00.the two sides together. I think that's what people

:04:01. > :04:11.need to ask themselves. Whether he broke the law here

:04:12. > :04:14.is not for me to answer. There is concern that the ambassador

:04:15. > :04:18.of Israel coming to Bradford this week, he acted provocatively by

:04:19. > :04:21.waving the Israeli flag in the city. I think the ambassador has come to

:04:22. > :04:30.show sympathy, to show understanding with the people of Bradford,

:04:31. > :04:35.with the Jewish community in Bradford as we do in many such

:04:36. > :04:40.visits of myself, the ambassador and I think we also come to listen,

:04:41. > :04:47.not just to preach. There are concerns from community

:04:48. > :04:51.and faith leaders that by the ambassador coming here and doing

:04:52. > :04:55.what he did, by George Galloway saying what he said, that both sides

:04:56. > :05:00.are actually breaking down really First of all I wouldn't put

:05:01. > :05:07.the ambassador and that particular I think the ambassador,

:05:08. > :05:13.unlike the MP, Did he not try to get a reaction

:05:14. > :05:19.by doing what he did? What he got was a reaction from

:05:20. > :05:27.community leaders that he met in They said the statements that were

:05:28. > :05:34.aired were not representing On the contrary,

:05:35. > :05:39.that they tried to build bridges and the ambassador encouraged them

:05:40. > :05:41.to build these bridges. I think it is important that the

:05:42. > :05:45.ambassador and any other diplomatic comes and shows their understanding

:05:46. > :05:51.and support for community relation building rather than

:05:52. > :05:56.for community relation breakup. People

:05:57. > :05:58.of Yorkshire feel very strongly We come here to explain

:05:59. > :06:09.our position. I think that we are tasked with

:06:10. > :06:13.explaining the positions of the Israeli citizens who are

:06:14. > :06:17.under fire as we speak. More than 5 million who are dashing

:06:18. > :06:20.to the shelters and safe rooms What people see on TV screens

:06:21. > :06:31.sometimes is a mere 90 seconds of a frozen reality that does not reflect

:06:32. > :06:34.the depth and the measure of danger I think it is our job to come

:06:35. > :06:44.and explain it. I think what we hear is 2,000 people

:06:45. > :06:49.killed in Gaza, including women and children, and that is what people

:06:50. > :06:54.are really quite upset about. None

:06:55. > :06:59.of us really wanted this conflict. Another problem is that Hamas has

:07:00. > :07:04.embedded itself within Hamas shooting from hundreds

:07:05. > :07:14.of civilian locations, kindergartens, mosques, graveyards,

:07:15. > :07:19.schools and other facilities We target terrorists

:07:20. > :07:33.and terrorist facilities. We target their infrastructure,

:07:34. > :07:38.the tunnels that are aimed at being To restore security

:07:39. > :07:58.for the people of Israel. Later on Look North, the best of

:07:59. > :08:11.last night's football action plus... It is the first day of the annual

:08:12. > :08:13.horse racing meeting here in Europe. Fashion, glamour and even a bit of

:08:14. > :08:15.horse racing. Campaigners who are marching

:08:16. > :08:19.from the North East to London to protest against what they claim is

:08:20. > :08:22.the "privatisation" of the NHS are The event has been organised

:08:23. > :08:26.by a group of women from Darlington who are following the route taken

:08:27. > :08:28.by the Jarrow March against poverty and unemployment

:08:29. > :08:33.more than seventy years ago. What we are upset about is what

:08:34. > :08:37.we've taken for granted for many years, which is on our doorstep,

:08:38. > :08:40.is slowly being taken away from us. We are groups of mums and we

:08:41. > :08:46.don't want our kids in the future A 16 year`old boy is being treated

:08:47. > :08:51.in hospital after a disturbance in the Page Hall area of Sheffield

:08:52. > :08:53.last night. The teenager suffered minor puncture

:08:54. > :08:56.marks during No one's been arrested

:08:57. > :09:01.in connection with the assault. One man was arrested on suspicion

:09:02. > :09:06.of a public order offence. Work has started

:09:07. > :09:09.on a new ?10 million Olympic legacy The Concord Leisure Centre will be

:09:10. > :09:14.developed as a National Centre The idea is to help treat chronic

:09:15. > :09:20.health conditions The leisure centre already takes

:09:21. > :09:25.part in a GP scheme for people with illness, with over a

:09:26. > :09:28.thousand people in the city having Two other sites in the city are

:09:29. > :09:33.also going to be developed. Now the business secretary

:09:34. > :09:36.Vince Cable has been in Yorkshire today to announce the expansion

:09:37. > :09:39.of his scheme to get more young Last year there were nearly 60,000

:09:40. > :09:44.apprenticeships started That's nearly three times as many

:09:45. > :09:49.as a decade ago and more than 55% of those were in a

:09:50. > :09:53.few business sectors ` healthcare, More so than in more traditional

:09:54. > :09:57.areas like manufacturing. But Look North has learned that more

:09:58. > :10:00.than half of small and medium sized companies involved in taking on

:10:01. > :10:14.apprentices have now dropped out. From the North Sea to China, these

:10:15. > :10:16.components are everything from wind turbines to the coal industry will

:10:17. > :10:21.soon be shipped around the world. Made in Leeds with the help of

:10:22. > :10:26.apprentices. Here they say business has been dead but if they don't get

:10:27. > :10:34.in fresh blood, things could soon turn. What I call a soon armour.

:10:35. > :10:41.People at the latter end of their working career need to be replaced.

:10:42. > :10:50.We also need to bring in new talent. The solution from Vince Cable was

:10:51. > :10:54.the trailblazer apprentice game. Apprenticeships designed by industry

:10:55. > :11:02.making them more credible and attractive. We think of apprentices

:11:03. > :11:07.as an alternative. The merits are there is a job and work experience,

:11:08. > :11:11.at the same time you are acquiring a training and an education. Some of

:11:12. > :11:16.the people I have met here are doing actual as a master 's degrees on the

:11:17. > :11:20.back of their apprenticeships. I get the joy of designing new products

:11:21. > :11:29.that people see on the shelves at supermarkets. I also get to go on to

:11:30. > :11:34.further education. I had different opportunities once I did my A`levels

:11:35. > :11:38.and have been an apprentice is the best way to get into work. While

:11:39. > :11:42.most people are being positive about the plans there are concerns small

:11:43. > :11:46.businesses can't afford to take part. We have learned one scheme has

:11:47. > :11:50.lost all of its regular small business involvement. That is partly

:11:51. > :11:55.down to us in government making things less bureaucratic but it's

:11:56. > :12:00.also persuading the companies that it is worth doing. It is because

:12:01. > :12:04.they get real economic benefit. Benefit for the company, the

:12:05. > :12:07.apprentice and in the long run the Yorkshire economy.

:12:08. > :12:09.Meanwhile, a scheme which uses football as a way

:12:10. > :12:12.of helping young people who're not in apprenticeships or education to

:12:13. > :12:17.Street League is aimed at 16 to 25`year`olds who need some

:12:18. > :12:20.inspiration to take the first steps towards getting a job.

:12:21. > :12:25.Matt Slater's been to find out how it all works.

:12:26. > :12:27.What I want you to do on these boards is have

:12:28. > :12:32.a little think about what you think is the true spirit of the game.

:12:33. > :12:34.Forget the Premier League for a moment.

:12:35. > :12:37.Football, when you strip out the headlines, histrionics and hype,

:12:38. > :12:42.But sometimes a good game is what people need more than anything else.

:12:43. > :13:00.From the back four to the front two, a team is more than just long

:13:01. > :13:06.Football can make millionaires of men like Liverpool and England

:13:07. > :13:11.It can also reach people who have been left behind.

:13:12. > :13:17.People not on a career path, property ladder or graduate scheme.

:13:18. > :13:20.We've been hearing a lot about the improving economy and the

:13:21. > :13:22.fact that unemployment is falling, but that doesn't tell them.

:13:23. > :13:25.What the experts refer to as structured unemployment isn't

:13:26. > :13:30.There are a quarter of a million young people in this country who

:13:31. > :13:33.haven't been in a job or some kind of training for more than a year.

:13:34. > :13:37.Those are the people that Street League is trying to reach.

:13:38. > :13:41.We use football as an engagement tool to get 16 to

:13:42. > :13:44.25`year`olds to come along and play football with us once a week.

:13:45. > :13:47.No charge to them and then they get an opportunity to apply to

:13:48. > :13:52.They spend two hours in the afternoon playing football

:13:53. > :13:54.and in the morning we spend two hours working with them

:13:55. > :13:57.on employability skills, working on their CV, interview practice,

:13:58. > :14:01.teamwork, communication skills, all the things that employers want.

:14:02. > :14:03.I've got three jobs now, believe it or not.

:14:04. > :14:10.I am working in high school and I referee for Power League.

:14:11. > :14:19.Another success story for a programme with an 80% hit rate.

:14:20. > :14:23.These guys came through the scheme in Manchester, but with branches

:14:24. > :14:26.opening in Leeds and Sheffield before Christmas, Street League is

:14:27. > :14:42.All to play for in the first all`Yorkshire rugby league Challenge

:14:43. > :14:50.The three Yorkshire museums on a European heritage trail

:14:51. > :15:02.Every single one of our teams was on the field last night, for the first

:15:03. > :15:06.And not all the results went our way, I'm afraid.

:15:07. > :15:09.But on the plus side Bradford City remain unbeaten after a great win

:15:10. > :15:14.And the Blades and the Terriers are both off the mark at last.

:15:15. > :15:23.With the best of the action, here's Paul Ogden.

:15:24. > :15:34.Are the sweet celebration of that will first win of the season. In the

:15:35. > :15:40.short term, Academy head will be happy to keep supervising in his own

:15:41. > :15:46.wily way. His careful, inventive selection outfoxed Reading last

:15:47. > :15:52.night. The goals doubled have changed the whole mood around town

:15:53. > :15:59.today. Rotherham United staged a first`time champion ship defeat.

:16:00. > :16:05.Likewise lead United disappointed their home fans. Sheffield Wednesday

:16:06. > :16:12.might feel as if they had last having led onto a 1`nil lead until

:16:13. > :16:17.with 20 seconds left Millwall grabbed an equaliser and it finished

:16:18. > :16:19.one all. In League 1 Sheffield United are off the mark with a 2`1

:16:20. > :16:43.win. While Chesterfield lost at home to

:16:44. > :16:49.MK dons, Doncaster Rovers left it until the 92nd minute to secure a

:16:50. > :16:58.draw. All square at the York city. From two nil down to two to.

:16:59. > :17:02.Now it's just three days to the rugby league showdown between

:17:03. > :17:06.Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos who're at Wembley on Saturday for

:17:07. > :17:11.the first all`Yorkshire Challenge Cup Final in nearly 20 years.

:17:12. > :17:14.They're competing for this amazing piece of silverware

:17:15. > :17:19.and joining us in the studio are two men whose nerves quite possibly are

:17:20. > :17:40.Castleford to get there is an incredible story. Nobody really

:17:41. > :17:46.fancied their chances at all. No. It we've been doing really well. All

:17:47. > :17:53.the boys are looking forward to Saturday. How do you feel having

:17:54. > :18:02.played for the rhinos as well. Do you know them well enough to use the

:18:03. > :18:04.information? I have always checked but it changes every now and then.

:18:05. > :18:12.I'm just looking forward to Saturday. Leeds have lost six cup

:18:13. > :18:18.finals since they last won. What would it mean to raise the Trophy on

:18:19. > :18:25.Saturday? It would be special. It is such a great trophy and a great

:18:26. > :18:28.competition. We've got a good challenge cup record we've just not

:18:29. > :18:32.been able to play well in the final. That is something we will try to put

:18:33. > :18:38.right on Saturday. It's going to be a tough game. Obviously a lot of

:18:39. > :18:44.pressure. How do you get yourself into the zone to prepare for it? It

:18:45. > :18:50.is different. They say try and treat it like a normal game but it's not.

:18:51. > :18:55.There is a lot more riding on it. You need to perform at your best.

:18:56. > :19:00.Everything this weekend is just holding up to peak on Saturday. I'm

:19:01. > :19:04.sure they are doing the same as us. I hurt Castleford will be closed on

:19:05. > :19:11.Saturday. Everybody's going to Wembley. Do you have the move of

:19:12. > :19:15.anticipation there? Yes. All the fans are looking forward to Saturday

:19:16. > :19:21.and I think there are a few bus`loads going down. The amazing

:19:22. > :19:25.thing about the game is you can't predict it. You might say you have

:19:26. > :19:30.more experience about going to Wembley but you are so even as teams

:19:31. > :19:37.aren't you? Yes both games have been very close. I think the bookies are

:19:38. > :19:43.making us favourites but there has not been much in the games and it's

:19:44. > :19:46.going to be another tight one. One thing is sure, one of you will be

:19:47. > :19:50.taking this home on Saturday. Best of luck to both sides.

:19:51. > :19:51.Paralympic and World Champion Hannah Cockcroft

:19:52. > :19:54.from Halifax has added European gold to her medal collection.

:19:55. > :19:57.She was victorious in the T34 100 metres at the IPC Championships

:19:58. > :20:02.She finished in 18.55 seconds just ahead of Holland's Amy Symons,

:20:03. > :20:10.with fellow Britain Melissa Nicholls winning bronze.

:20:11. > :20:13.Now to one of Yorkshire's oldest, richest

:20:14. > :20:19.The Ebor Festival is taking place at York Racecourse

:20:20. > :20:36.There's a prize every day for the best dressed racegoer.

:20:37. > :20:39.So we sent our ` erm ` best dressed reporter Danny

:20:40. > :21:00.There are heroes, there are frocks and there are hats, hats, hats. It

:21:01. > :21:03.is all about seeing and being seen. In the parade ring, the well groomed

:21:04. > :21:08.and the well groomed and the well`heeled show in the champagne

:21:09. > :21:11.bar the well groomed and a high`heeled just show off. Of

:21:12. > :21:18.course, there are also those who come to the racing. Just over five

:21:19. > :21:23.months old. What do you think they'll be when they grow up? By

:21:24. > :21:32.their dad is a bookmaker. They're not going to be bookmakers. The big

:21:33. > :21:37.race draws a big crowd. This is the richest race ever staged at York.

:21:38. > :21:41.?800,000 in prize money won in under three minutes. That's the kind of

:21:42. > :21:47.hourly pay rate you would really want. Less rich but more nutritious,

:21:48. > :21:54.the sculpture in Yorkshire badge has become something of a tradition.

:21:55. > :21:59.Would you eat it? Because I would. I'd had few nibbles along the way.

:22:00. > :22:03.Yes I can about share for the produce. It's really tasty. The

:22:04. > :22:07.occasion would be complete without the sound of breasts to accompany

:22:08. > :22:14.the people as they part with them money.

:22:15. > :22:23.Ladies Day is actually tomorrow. So expect more, much more of the same.

:22:24. > :22:26.Finally tonight, we've got a proud tradition of industrial heritage in

:22:27. > :22:29.You name it, we've probably built it, made it,

:22:30. > :22:34.And this isn't a humble boast either.

:22:35. > :22:36.Three of our big museums have been officially

:22:37. > :22:38.recognised as anchor points on a European industrial heritage

:22:39. > :22:42.And we know just the person to take you for a tour `

:22:43. > :22:58.In ship heeled's Chris opposing cradles, the modern city was forged.

:22:59. > :23:04.But it's not the sound of hammers ringing around the island today.

:23:05. > :23:10.Today it is something of a special occasion. It has been recognised as

:23:11. > :23:18.part of a European heritage route. To celebrate we are taking this

:23:19. > :23:23.marvellous car out for a spin. This is one of the museum's star

:23:24. > :23:30.exhibits. Marvellous. Ideal for a road trip on a new European heritage

:23:31. > :23:42.trail with the theme of makers, miners and money. The story links

:23:43. > :23:46.all these different sites. Let's go and look at different museums. It is

:23:47. > :23:58.all a story of the industrial nation. It will help button.

:23:59. > :24:13.What this car lacks in speed it makes for in photogenic value.

:24:14. > :24:19.While we were here, there is one more thing I would like to show you.

:24:20. > :24:26.It's the reason this site is really special. For once, it isn't a

:24:27. > :24:32.railway locomotive. It is a steam engine though. I can't believe I'm

:24:33. > :24:37.looking at this for the first time. Tell me why it is so famous? This is

:24:38. > :24:45.the invention that allow the industrial regulation to happen. It

:24:46. > :24:51.is the last one anywhere in the world. This is the Stonehenge of the

:24:52. > :25:00.industrial revolution isn't it? It is. Why wait until the rebuild is

:25:01. > :25:05.complete. There is an open day here tomorrow. No matter how you travel

:25:06. > :25:20.all three museums are worth a visit. They are our story and one that will

:25:21. > :25:29.be told across the continent. How is the weather going to be? Temperature
