:00:00. > :00:00.You're watching Friday's Look North Tonight.

:00:00. > :00:09.Aussies and Americans top the list as the county attracts a record

:00:10. > :00:13.We look at where they are spending their money.

:00:14. > :00:17.18 months in jail for a man described as

:00:18. > :00:29.a prolific vandal for his graffiti on South Yorkshire's railways.

:00:30. > :00:35.We are alive with thousands have turned out for the Leeds Festival.

:00:36. > :00:40.And I will have the forecast for the bank or the weekend. `` bank holiday

:00:41. > :00:46.weekend. Good evening and welcome to

:00:47. > :00:48.Friday's Look North. Tourism bosses

:00:49. > :00:50.in Yorkshire have something to smile And it's got nothing to do with

:00:51. > :00:53.the weather. Figures out today show there were

:00:54. > :00:55.a record number of foreign visitors to Yorkshire

:00:56. > :00:58.last summer and that's before The latest tourism figures

:00:59. > :01:03.for Yorkshire show record breaking The figures, from Visit Britain,

:01:04. > :01:06.look at July, There were 168,000 holiday visits

:01:07. > :01:12.to Yorkshire in that time. It's a record high and up 38%

:01:13. > :01:17.on the previous Summer. When it comes to overseas visitors

:01:18. > :01:20.they spent ?68 million And the figures show we're

:01:21. > :01:27.very popular with Australians. And they were followed by American

:01:28. > :01:31.tourists. In fact, those two groups alone

:01:32. > :01:34.spent ?28 million in the region. But as Danni Hewson reports,

:01:35. > :01:47.it's not all good news. It is no surprise the city of York

:01:48. > :01:53.approves the biggest draw for foreign visitors. Last year, numbers

:01:54. > :01:58.choosing to four key for its culture saw a major and the lucrative bump.

:01:59. > :02:03.At trendy hoteliers have been watching closely. We seem to be seen

:02:04. > :02:07.Americans coming back now and Europeans, what more Italians and

:02:08. > :02:11.French people staying with us know. Do you think the tour had an

:02:12. > :02:16.impact? At the time it had a very big impact. We had telephone call to

:02:17. > :02:20.three days after the event from a French family who had seen is on the

:02:21. > :02:25.television and they are coming to stay with us at the end of this

:02:26. > :02:30.month. 12 months, all this was just talk. But was enough to kick`start

:02:31. > :02:34.the world's interest in Yorkshire. Not just its heritage, but its

:02:35. > :02:40.countryside. But it was not all good news. The number of foreign visitors

:02:41. > :02:50.raised `` dendrites but was offset by a fall in their thousands from

:02:51. > :02:58.domestic tourist. This weekend, attractions at the walled garden

:02:59. > :03:03.linkup to help each other. Profits at this chip shop are up from last

:03:04. > :03:07.year. Many of those dining are British. That is not just about the

:03:08. > :03:13.individual business any more. It is about the town and how we can

:03:14. > :03:18.promote ourselves as a vibrant attraction was in Yorkshire and the

:03:19. > :03:24.country. And that is the key. Last year set the stage for 2014, his

:03:25. > :03:26.figures we expect to be through the roof. But what about those that

:03:27. > :03:31.missed out your Mac there are a lot missed out your Mac there are a lot

:03:32. > :03:34.of things that have to happen. We have to get a customer service high

:03:35. > :03:40.and keep investing in businesses. We have to make sure that people

:03:41. > :03:44.capitalise on the tour of Yorkshire and that it will go to the places

:03:45. > :03:49.where the true difference did not call. We had to get together over

:03:50. > :03:54.the next few months, do a big marketing campaign for Yorkshire.

:03:55. > :03:55.Our profile has never been higher and we must capitalise on that. It

:03:56. > :04:02.appeared as on the map and the appeared as on the map and the

:04:03. > :04:04.Chequers to keep us there. `` it put us on the map and the trick is to

:04:05. > :04:10.keep us there. Next tonight, a graffiti vandal has

:04:11. > :04:13.been sentenced to 18 months in prison for causing widespread damage

:04:14. > :04:15.to South Yorkshire's railways. Simon Sunderland daubed graffiti

:04:16. > :04:17.around the rail network in Sheffield,

:04:18. > :04:18.Rotherham and Chesterfield, Police say they have been trying

:04:19. > :04:22.to catch Bloodaxe for five years. Today, Simon Sunderland,

:04:23. > :04:24.the man behind the paint can, You may recognise some

:04:25. > :04:27.of Sunderland's earlier work. In the 90s, the tag "Fista" was all

:04:28. > :04:30.over South Yorkshire at railways, At that time he was called Britain's

:04:31. > :04:44.most prolific graffiti vandal. He was jailed for five years

:04:45. > :04:51.in 1996, his sentence later cut to I think it is generally two fingers

:04:52. > :04:56.up to authority, if I can put it In a rail environment,

:04:57. > :04:59.it is against the law. It's trespassing on Network Rail

:05:00. > :05:00.land. It is

:05:01. > :05:02.a dangerous environment to work Reported graffiti in our part of the

:05:03. > :05:07.world has actually dipped slightly. In 2012`13,

:05:08. > :05:08.there were 79 tags reported, In the last year, there were

:05:09. > :05:18.66 reported cases of repeated. Important to remember that this

:05:19. > :05:24.is only what has been reported. Of course, there is graffiti all

:05:25. > :05:29.over South Yorkshire's railways. British Transport Police says

:05:30. > :05:32.the Bloodaxe tag on its own cost The cost of cleaning that is

:05:33. > :05:36.passed on to the passenger. The cost to Network Rail to clean

:05:37. > :05:39.this runs to the tens When the operation started in 2009,

:05:40. > :05:46.I had an estimate from Network Art or vandalism is

:05:47. > :05:55.the usual argument. It is pretty clear what side

:05:56. > :06:16.of that debate Later, we are live at Wembley, which

:06:17. > :06:21.is all set for the old Yorkshire final. The players have had a

:06:22. > :06:22.training session inside, we'll be hearing from them and some of the

:06:23. > :06:26.fans. The Chief Constable of South

:06:27. > :06:38.Yorkshire Police , David Crompton, has accused the BBC of a

:06:39. > :06:40.cover`up over its reporting of the He's reported to have made

:06:41. > :06:45.the comments to the Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee

:06:46. > :06:47.and MP, Keith Vaz. Mr Vaz wants to know how the BBC

:06:48. > :06:51.knew to be at Sir Cliff's home in Berkshire

:06:52. > :06:53.when it was searched last Thursday. He says Mr Crompton's claims are

:06:54. > :06:55.a matter of deep concern. The BBC's Director`General Lord Hall

:06:56. > :06:58.says his journalists acted Sir Cliff is being investigated over

:06:59. > :07:02.an allegation of a sex attack Both Lord Hall and Mr Crompton are

:07:03. > :07:06.to be questioned further next month. The Home Secretary Theresa May has

:07:07. > :07:09.warned South Yorkshire's Police Commissioner Shaun Wright she'll cap

:07:10. > :07:12.the grants she's awarded to the force for legal bills

:07:13. > :07:15.at the Hillsborough inquests. Costs for eight former police

:07:16. > :07:16.officers including David Duckenfield, the match commander

:07:17. > :07:20.on the day of the 1989 disaster, The Home Secretary says the level

:07:21. > :07:25.of reimbursement for the police must not exceed the

:07:26. > :07:29.sum being given to the families of the 96 Liverpool fans who died in

:07:30. > :07:38.the crush at the FA Cup semi`final. The family of a Bradford man who

:07:39. > :07:41.was stabbed to death two years ago have made a fresh appeal for

:07:42. > :07:44.information to find his killers. Clement Desmier, who was also known

:07:45. > :07:47.as Butch, was found dead at In a statement his family said they

:07:48. > :07:53.were struggling with the fact that Detectives believe his killers

:07:54. > :07:59.have links to the local community. We appeal to anybody who has any

:08:00. > :08:02.information to come forward. I'm still particularly keen to

:08:03. > :08:04.identify and trace the man who was seen with Butch

:08:05. > :08:10.the day before his murder at 4:30pm in the afternoon, entering Butch's

:08:11. > :08:13.house together with him. And also the people who were seen

:08:14. > :08:16.in the garden of his home address and entering his house at 3am

:08:17. > :08:22.on 23rd August 2012, the day that Police are looking

:08:23. > :08:28.for a man who sexually assaulted four different women on

:08:29. > :08:31.the same West Yorkshire bus route. CCTV of the suspect,

:08:32. > :08:33.who is thought to have committed offences once a month since May,

:08:34. > :08:38.have been released by the police. All the attacks took place

:08:39. > :08:41.on the 268 bus between Cleckheaton The most recent assault was

:08:42. > :08:46.on Tuesday. A unique collection

:08:47. > :08:48.of medical records from West Yorkshire's mental institutions

:08:49. > :08:51.has been recognised by the United Nations, as an irreplaceable

:08:52. > :08:56.source of social history. More than 5,000 photographs

:08:57. > :08:58.of patients who were treated at the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum

:08:59. > :09:02.are held at the West Yorkshire Kate Bradbrook has been

:09:03. > :09:17.for a look around. The faces of Yorkshire's mental

:09:18. > :09:21.health patients from as far back These are some of 5,000 photos and

:09:22. > :09:29.medical records from the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum being held by

:09:30. > :09:36.the West Yorkshire Archive Service. If you want to come through,

:09:37. > :09:38.we have some records out Today, the McDonagh brothers

:09:39. > :09:42.from Selby are here in Wakefield to find out about their grandmother,

:09:43. > :09:48.who was one such patient. You have the name at the top,

:09:49. > :09:51.and the occupation there, when she She did not want her

:09:52. > :09:59.photograph taken. She was admitted to

:10:00. > :10:10.the hospital with what is now She suffered from a number

:10:11. > :10:15.of illnesses and died there at the age of 41, something Kevin

:10:16. > :10:28.and Ian were unaware of. Never seen a photo of her,

:10:29. > :10:30.so it's a bit emotional, really. But it is excellent that

:10:31. > :10:33.the records are there. We have just been reading through

:10:34. > :10:40.them and I now I feel that I have There are nine miles worth

:10:41. > :10:44.of shelves with records dating back All of them are accessible to

:10:45. > :10:46.the public. These records have now been

:10:47. > :10:49.recognised by UNESCO as an irreplaceable source

:10:50. > :10:53.of medical and social history. A lot of people from England come

:10:54. > :10:59.to work, but also internationally. We have academics as well

:11:00. > :11:01.as family historians. It is good

:11:02. > :11:05.for it to get that recognition, that For this family it has been

:11:06. > :11:09.an emotional journey, It is hoped others will now

:11:10. > :11:20.be able to do the same. Sheffield's Kell Brook gets a civic

:11:21. > :11:25.reception after becoming boxing's And the 16th annual Leeds Festival

:11:26. > :11:38.gets underway with more than 70,000 Now, by this time tomorrow night

:11:39. > :11:50.either Castleford Tigers or Leeds Rhinos will have lifted one

:11:51. > :11:53.of the game's most historic We know this because

:11:54. > :11:56.for the first time in 28 years it's an all`Yorkshire Tetley's Challenge

:11:57. > :12:00.Cup Final at Wembley. Well, the teams are in London and

:12:01. > :12:03.by the looks of it They're with Tanya who's

:12:04. > :12:22.down Wembley way for us tonight. The Castleford fans are here at

:12:23. > :12:26.least. It is a Wilson 's Castleford got to experience Wembley. The

:12:27. > :12:30.players are down in the capital, they came down yesterday. The worst

:12:31. > :12:37.year today for their final training session. First out for the

:12:38. > :12:41.traditional eve of final Captain John Ware leads. Not much need for

:12:42. > :12:45.them to come `` to get the money when the place, the altar from item

:12:46. > :12:49.of the place. They have to learn to love it. Three times they had been

:12:50. > :12:53.year, three games they have lost. They have made six horses and all

:12:54. > :13:01.since the last lifted the trophy in 1999. There is not that much that we

:13:02. > :13:06.get from in preparation. The reality is that there is not that much wrong

:13:07. > :13:10.we get `` we do wrong on game day. We just get beaten by the better

:13:11. > :13:15.team. We are looking forward to getting out on the field and

:13:16. > :13:20.executing some of the things that we have planned. For the Castleford

:13:21. > :13:25.team, it is all new. This was the chance to get used to it, so they

:13:26. > :13:28.can focus on the game. You want if you want to view what the ground is

:13:29. > :13:33.like. I know it will be different with the fans on here. You can stand

:13:34. > :13:38.of the stadium, have a look at what this year. Tomorrow, we can focus on

:13:39. > :13:48.playing. It does not happen very often. Yes, we have our focus on

:13:49. > :13:55.this year 's cup. It will go back to Yorkshire, it will be a little town

:13:56. > :13:59.Mike Castleford, hopefully. It is so little to choose between these two

:14:00. > :14:04.sides. The true when they faced each other last month. Just 15 males

:14:05. > :14:14.divides the two cup `` cups, so it has all the makings of a great

:14:15. > :14:27.final. `` just 15 males divides the two clubs. `` miles. You are a rain

:14:28. > :14:37.was fun. We had he come from? I come from Norway. Where have you come

:14:38. > :14:42.from? I come from Australia. And you are supporting two Castleford. How

:14:43. > :14:49.on earth did you become a lead Rhino fan? Is a long story. I am a huge

:14:50. > :14:54.Leeds United supporter. Then I got into rugby as well. When did you

:14:55. > :15:06.book your tickets for this? The midfield. `` in the middle of the

:15:07. > :15:12.final. You must be fairly desperate for them to win, it is a long

:15:13. > :15:17.journey? I hope that they went. Australia is a trick. Tell us why

:15:18. > :15:23.you have come. My nephew is playing in the final. That was a good enough

:15:24. > :15:30.reason to make the journey. It is a fairy tale story for him, isn't it?

:15:31. > :15:38.Area in the season he was playing second year in France. Yes, and

:15:39. > :15:43.looking to retire from rugby. He got the call and has not looked back

:15:44. > :15:48.since. How is he peeling two I spent the day with them today. He is

:15:49. > :15:57.feeling good. They looked very sharp in training. Do they know about this

:15:58. > :16:01.in Australia? They certainly do. There is a lot of people that will

:16:02. > :16:09.be getting up at midnight to watch this, including my boys. It is a

:16:10. > :16:17.little close to call. What will get leads over the link think the XP is

:16:18. > :16:27.will make the win. `` they are expedient. `` via expedients.

:16:28. > :16:44.Who will win? Tigers! The thought that it will be Castleford, but may

:16:45. > :17:05.they test team win. `` the best. Yorkshire's Olympic and Commonwealth

:17:06. > :17:07.gold medallist Nicola Adams will miss the World Championships

:17:08. > :17:08.in November because The world title is one

:17:09. > :17:12.of the few competitions Adams hasn't She will be out of action for up to

:17:13. > :17:17.six months after she's had surgery. Nikki has revealed that it was even

:17:18. > :17:20.causing her some pain during that historic Commonwealth triumph win

:17:21. > :17:22.in Glasgow earlier this month. Elsewhere in sport today,

:17:23. > :17:25.there's been more Gold medal success for Halifax wheelchair sprinter

:17:26. > :17:26.Hannah Cockroft. At the European Championships

:17:27. > :17:28.in Swansea, Hannah went for the 800 metre title, to add to the

:17:29. > :17:32.100 metre Gold she got on Tuesday. She had to come from behind

:17:33. > :17:34.in this one. But on the finishing straight,

:17:35. > :17:36.she powered past her room`mate and fellow Briton, Melissa Nicholls,

:17:37. > :17:39.to be first across the line Now on to the biggest boxing news

:17:40. > :17:46.of the week and Sheffield's Kell Brook was today welcomed back to

:17:47. > :17:49.the city after bringing a world He was crowned the IBF world

:17:50. > :17:53.welterweight champion last Saturday. Our reporter Shamir Masri followed

:17:54. > :17:56.Kell in Los Angeles and he caught up with him at the

:17:57. > :18:17.reception at the Winter Gardens. A heroes welcome for boxing 's

:18:18. > :18:21.newest champion. It has been a long road. She realised his lifelong

:18:22. > :18:25.dream last Saturday, but has he had time to take stock and realise the

:18:26. > :18:37.magnitude of his achievement? It is just unbelievable. What I have

:18:38. > :18:42.always wanted to do. For me,, it is about the `` for me, it is about

:18:43. > :18:52.inspiring the next generation. For his family and the team from his

:18:53. > :18:58.gym, they were here to see him win. Today in his civic reception, it was

:18:59. > :19:02.a proud moment for all concerned. We have been to the town hall and to

:19:03. > :19:09.see the Lord Mayor, which was good as well. It is just getting better

:19:10. > :19:14.and better. Today she met fans and posed for photographs. She is set to

:19:15. > :19:22.defend his world title here in Sheffield on the 6th of December. I

:19:23. > :19:26.am looking forward to getting in that ring and defending my world

:19:27. > :19:38.title and putting national one. His opponent will be announced in due

:19:39. > :19:44.course. There is plenty of torque. `` there is plenty of discussion.

:19:45. > :19:47.Now, it's the August Bank Holiday weekend and we're expecting rain, so

:19:48. > :19:53.Over 200 artists will take to the stage at Bramham Park over

:19:54. > :19:57.the next three days with headliners including Paramore, Queens

:19:58. > :20:01.of the Stone Age and Sheffield's very own Arctic Monkeys.

:20:02. > :20:30.Lead singer of the band on the stage just know has just told the crowd

:20:31. > :20:36.that he wrote his song here at the Leeds Festival six years ago. It is

:20:37. > :20:40.a great event of course and there are a lot of Yorkshire bands taking

:20:41. > :20:48.part. The Arctic monkeys will be on the main stage on Sunday. But how do

:20:49. > :20:49.they make it to the top of the belt you Mac there are some flashing

:20:50. > :21:05.images in this report. From Sheffield to Somerset. The

:21:06. > :21:08.Arctic monkeys headline performance at Glastonbury last year established

:21:09. > :21:12.them as one of the best festival bands in the country. On Sunday

:21:13. > :21:15.night they will bring the Leeds Festival to a climax. Before then

:21:16. > :21:26.there is a lot more vocal talent to enjoy. `` local. This band from

:21:27. > :21:35.Leeds got a place on the dole by winning the battle of the bands

:21:36. > :21:48.competition. It is good expedients. We are progressing all the time.

:21:49. > :21:56.Also hailing from Leeds are eagles. They are saying to a record label in

:21:57. > :22:00.show with David letter man. They are show with David letter man. They are

:22:01. > :22:02.still looking for a record label in Europe and have played on the late

:22:03. > :22:43.show with David letter man. They are still looking.

:22:44. > :22:50.You do not come to Festival at this unless you like rock. This band have

:22:51. > :22:58.formed in 2008 and have played here every single year since. They have

:22:59. > :23:04.worked their way up to the top. We are the house band! You cannot get

:23:05. > :23:14.rid of us. We actually live here on sake, we never leave. We are

:23:15. > :23:18.contracted to play for the next ten years. Whatever stage of theirs,

:23:19. > :23:25.even if it is the campsite, we will be back. If you're coming this

:23:26. > :23:34.weekend, why not lessen the local. `` why not listen, local?

:23:35. > :23:41.I have had a great day, as I say. It is the first thing that I have been

:23:42. > :23:46.here. I thought they would talk to a few people, particularly those

:23:47. > :23:47.camping here all weekend. I have learned a few things. Public at

:23:48. > :24:14.this. `` look at this. We have picked the wrong Paul in the

:24:15. > :24:22.wrong hole. `` we have put the wrong Paul in the wrong hole. In fact, we

:24:23. > :24:34.are going out! What could be going on here? It is not midday and you

:24:35. > :24:37.are on deck hands. You have to have at least one beer that you have

:24:38. > :24:44.earned. If it starts raining, it is going to get messy. My name is

:24:45. > :24:49.Kelsey and that is my dad's friend. That is my mum will stop the is my

:24:50. > :25:06.lazy dad. That is my mum and that is my lazy

:25:07. > :25:14.dad. What will be the highlight? This is the first time that we have
