:00:00. > 3:59:59of Ashya King are in a Spanish jail tonight fighting extradition to

:00:00. > :00:20.Britain after they took from a former hostel worker that

:00:21. > :00:23.claims about the abuse were dismissed.

:00:24. > :00:28.Whenever we raised the issue of sexual exploitation we were

:00:29. > :00:32.considered to be alarmist. We will also hear that, Dick story

:00:33. > :00:41.of the mother of one of the victims. Also call on I am in Huddersfield

:00:42. > :00:48.where many have turned out to the attributed to a schoolboy swept out

:00:49. > :00:52.to sea well in holiday on wheels. And a new treatment for one of the

:00:53. > :00:55.most common causes of sight loss. And don't forget to join me for that

:00:56. > :01:03.all`important forecast coming up shortly.

:01:04. > :01:05.First tonight, more dramatic revelations involving

:01:06. > :01:11.The BBC's Panorama programme is to broadcast its investigation

:01:12. > :01:16.into the scandal which saw 1400 vulnerable girls abused.

:01:17. > :01:19.The programme has obtained further allegations that claims that abuse

:01:20. > :02:20.Rotherham has dominated the headlines now for almost a week.

:02:21. > :02:23.Because they did know lots about the girls.

:02:24. > :03:22.That's what you find so freaky because they seem to know about the

:03:23. > :03:26.there wasn't actually a problem in Rotherham at that time of any kind.

:03:27. > :03:29.And whenever we raised the issue of sexual exploitation,

:03:30. > :03:32.we were considered to be unprofessional and alarmist.

:03:33. > :03:35.And for the victim's families the failure of the police and the

:03:36. > :03:44.I fear they all sat back and watched, to use us as

:03:45. > :03:49.I can't explain it properly but they knew what was happening.

:03:50. > :03:56.Why didn't they do certain stuff to stop it?

:03:57. > :03:58.Well, Emma joins us in the studio now.

:03:59. > :04:06.What else can you tell us about what will be in tonight's programme?

:04:07. > :04:14.I have been talking to the panorama team and it is all about

:04:15. > :04:17.opportunities that were missed and warnings that allegations were

:04:18. > :04:23.ignored. We will be hearing from a doctor who was a drugs analyst

:04:24. > :04:27.working for South Yorkshire Police. Right back in 2003, during the

:04:28. > :04:31.course of her research, she quickly established a connection between

:04:32. > :04:37.drugs in Rotherham and child sexual exploitation. This is what she had

:04:38. > :04:43.to say. It really didn't make any sense as

:04:44. > :04:52.to why they're aware major police operation is `` why they weren't

:04:53. > :04:56.police operations to investigate it. There were issues of ethnicity and

:04:57. > :05:03.some people felt that was a barrier to investigating. It seemed to be

:05:04. > :05:08.too sensitive than issue. He mentions 2003 and your first

:05:09. > :05:13.answer, but we understand there was a warning about child exploitation

:05:14. > :05:18.before then. Yes, back in 2002, a Home Office

:05:19. > :05:24.research found the young girls were going to a youth organisation in the

:05:25. > :05:27.town and stopped about sexual grooming that was happening. This

:05:28. > :05:31.researcher looked into it some more and produced a report. She give the

:05:32. > :05:36.report to Rotherham Council and says that rather than act on it, the

:05:37. > :05:44.council told her not to repair two Asian men when she talked about

:05:45. > :05:49.sexual exploitation. `` refer to. She says she felt intimidated and

:05:50. > :05:54.people who she thought would be there to protect young people and

:05:55. > :05:55.bring their abusers to justice covered their own backs.

:05:56. > :06:00.Many thanks for that. And you can see the full Panorama

:06:01. > :06:02.investigation into the child abuse scandal

:06:03. > :06:05.in Rotherham tonight at 8:30pm We'll also have reaction to that

:06:06. > :06:08.programme on our late bulletin Next tonight, tributes have been

:06:09. > :06:11.paid to a 12`year`old boy from Huddersfield who is still

:06:12. > :06:14.missing after being swept out to sea Isaac Nash was paddling with

:06:15. > :06:17.his younger brother Xander when they got into difficulties

:06:18. > :06:20.at Aberffraw in Anglesey on Friday. Xander was rescued

:06:21. > :06:23.but Isaac has not been seen since. Tonight, a vigil is being held

:06:24. > :06:26.for him in Huddersfield. Charlotte Leeming is there

:06:27. > :06:45.for us now. Today, Isaac has been described as

:06:46. > :06:49.an amazing son, brother and friend. Today, many people gathered here is

:06:50. > :06:55.a tribute to remember him. Friends and relatives remembered him. They

:06:56. > :07:00.released balloons into the sky and then there was a spontaneous round

:07:01. > :07:06.of up laws. It was very moving stuff. It was a way for young people

:07:07. > :07:09.to show how they were supporting the family, who are still waiting

:07:10. > :07:12.desperately for news is that search continues.

:07:13. > :07:21.Isaac Nash hasn't been seen since Friday. He was swept out to sea. He

:07:22. > :07:25.had been playing with his brother only got into difficulties in the

:07:26. > :07:32.water. Relatives raised to help. They managed to raise his younger

:07:33. > :07:38.son but the father could not save Isaac. They have scoured the coast

:07:39. > :07:44.looking for him. We have got police and coastguard

:07:45. > :07:47.rescue teams searching the area and helicopters out looking. So far

:07:48. > :07:53.nothing found. Isaac was due to start at year eight

:07:54. > :07:59.on Wednesday at school. Counselling is being made available to pupils.

:08:00. > :08:04.As head teacher says over the past two years, Isaac has proved to be a

:08:05. > :08:11.very popular boy who loved sport and excelled at maps.

:08:12. > :08:19.He was a bit of a character. He was very intelligent, very athletic. He

:08:20. > :08:24.played football, cricket, did athletics. Outside school he did

:08:25. > :08:32.taekwondo. But he was also very intelligent. He was a very good

:08:33. > :08:35.mathematician. But he was also creative as well. He was

:08:36. > :08:41.multitalented. And we are going to miss him deeply.

:08:42. > :08:48.As have his friends, who have been paying tribute to him on social

:08:49. > :08:52.media. Many talk about his smile and sense of humour. His mother said he

:08:53. > :08:57.was a special child and will always be with us.

:08:58. > :09:03.Just a few moments before that tributes took place, I spoke to a

:09:04. > :09:06.couple of Isaac's friends. They said it was important to come here

:09:07. > :09:15.tonight. He was really kind and funny and he

:09:16. > :09:25.was really sporty. Basically, he was just perfect. Sweet.

:09:26. > :09:33.You should celebrate what he did because he was a really nice person.

:09:34. > :09:40.A special assembly will take place tomorrow at the school. They say it

:09:41. > :09:44.is important to offer counselling to the children. As time goes on and

:09:45. > :09:50.the family waits for news, it is looking likely that Isaac won't be

:09:51. > :09:55.starting term with his friends. The family say they are very

:09:56. > :09:56.appreciative of all the support on social media and the sport from the

:09:57. > :10:03.community here tonight. It'll be one

:10:04. > :10:06.of the most important votes in But what will the referendum

:10:07. > :10:10.on Scottish independence mean A hospital in Sheffield has become

:10:11. > :10:18.the first place in the UK to offer a new treatment

:10:19. > :10:21.for people suffering one of the most The Royal Hallamshire is now using

:10:22. > :10:25.low level X`rays to treat suitable patients with

:10:26. > :10:30.Age Related Macular Degeneration. The new treatment doesn't offer a

:10:31. > :10:33.cure but can dramatically reduce the Our health correspondent

:10:34. > :10:53.Jamie Coulson reports. 83`year`old Derek Jones is losing

:10:54. > :10:56.the vision in his right eye. He has age related macular degeneration,

:10:57. > :11:00.which means his central vision is deteriorating while the site around

:11:01. > :11:08.the periphery remains largely unaffected.

:11:09. > :11:15.I fear that, unless I can get some improvement, reading is going to be

:11:16. > :11:23.an impossibility. The macula is a small but vital area

:11:24. > :11:34.at the back of the eye and is vital for sight. These leak blood or fluid

:11:35. > :11:40.which leads to scarring and if left untreated can lead to a rapid loss

:11:41. > :11:56.of central vision. Today, Derek is being given a new

:11:57. > :12:01.treatment called a riot therapy `` temp

:12:02. > :12:13.Traditionally, patients would have injections into the eyes and that

:12:14. > :12:17.can be uncomfortable. But this new therapy can reduce the need for them

:12:18. > :12:22.by up to 40%. The impact that that his own

:12:23. > :12:27.patients and the costs to the NHS is most important.

:12:28. > :12:32.If it is a new thing and other people are going to benefit from it,

:12:33. > :12:38.that really is good. It is wonderful.

:12:39. > :12:43.This treatment doesn't offer a cure but does provide a more comfortable

:12:44. > :12:52.and cost`effective way of treating in major cause of sight loss.

:12:53. > :12:54.A footballer from Huddersfield has been charged as part of

:12:55. > :12:58.The former Bolton player Delroy Facey will appear

:12:59. > :12:59.before magistrates charged with conspiracy to commit bribery.

:13:00. > :13:02.He was originally arrested last year as part of a national

:13:03. > :13:06.Services on part of Sheffield's tram network have been suspended after

:13:07. > :13:10.Blue and Purple routes are currently suspended between the station

:13:11. > :13:15.Sheffield Supertram say the problem could affect the safety of services.

:13:16. > :13:25.A coroner in Scarborough has ruled the death of a man

:13:26. > :13:28.on a level crossing near Malton earlier this year was an accident.

:13:29. > :13:32.77`year`old Eric Ireland was killed when his car was hit by a train

:13:33. > :13:38.The inquest heard how no call was made to the signalman before

:13:39. > :13:40.Mr Ireland began to drive across the line

:13:41. > :13:48.A man accused of attacking the Bradford West MP George Galloway

:13:49. > :13:54.Mr Galloway was attacked in London on Friday night and had to spend

:13:55. > :13:58.39`year`old Neil Masterson appeared in court this afternoon charged with

:13:59. > :14:06.He'll appear in Crown Court later this month.

:14:07. > :14:11.It's one of the most important ballots

:14:12. > :14:15.in the history of the United Kingdom and it's just a couple of weeks away

:14:16. > :14:21.but not a single person living in Yorkshire will have a vote.

:14:22. > :14:23.So should we care whether Scotland votes

:14:24. > :14:27.All this week, Look North will be looking at the issues involved.

:14:28. > :14:33.Here's our Political Editor Len Tingle.

:14:34. > :14:40.This is the famous bridge at Coldstream, the Gateway to Scotland

:14:41. > :14:45.from England. Yorkshire is a good 150 miles that way. At the Scots

:14:46. > :14:49.ports to turn this into water crossing to a newly independent

:14:50. > :14:54.country, will it make any difference back in Yorkshire? `` Scots As many

:14:55. > :15:08.as are of the opinion, say "aye". the idea of border crossings is

:15:09. > :15:13.nonsense, say some. There is no one in Scotland that

:15:14. > :15:17.believes we are going to have passport checks and controls. Look

:15:18. > :15:22.at the situation between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

:15:23. > :15:26.There is lots of scaremongering from the no campaign that we will have

:15:27. > :15:35.border post setup and that is simply not going to happen.

:15:36. > :15:39.Do you fancy signing our love letter to Scotland. We are saying please

:15:40. > :15:43.don't go. Dan Snow says it is too important a

:15:44. > :15:51.decision for just the Scots to decide. He has recently been in

:15:52. > :15:59.Leeds calling for a No vote. He says independence would create increasing

:16:00. > :16:05.and damaging uncertainty. We might be fine but we don't know.

:16:06. > :16:12.Why bring in division and people threatening to default on currency?

:16:13. > :16:15.It is ridiculous. We are a happy family and have challenges ahead of

:16:16. > :16:19.us but are better off together. But whatever the outcome of the

:16:20. > :16:23.referendum, research at Huddersfield University appears to show that the

:16:24. > :16:26.debate itself is had one major effect on whether Yorkshire people

:16:27. > :16:31.want more political power of Europe. There is very little demand for

:16:32. > :16:38.independence in Yorkshire but a strong admiration or like for the

:16:39. > :16:43.notion of having devolution of power to Yorkshire as an entity.

:16:44. > :16:51.Consequently, there isn't any great nationalist feeling with a big N but

:16:52. > :16:56.an idea that there could be more power for Yorkshire.

:16:57. > :17:00.Hacking Glasgow, both campaigns agree that change has already taken

:17:01. > :17:04.place under the existing default parliament in Scotland and more

:17:05. > :17:08.power could come its way at this closely fought referendum results in

:17:09. > :17:12.a No vote. The vote is on September the 18th

:17:13. > :17:18.but only one thing is clear so far. Whatever the position of politics

:17:19. > :17:21.and power will never be the same in Scotland again and possibly

:17:22. > :17:41.elsewhere as well. Including Yorkshire.

:17:42. > :17:45.And after a difficult few days, how Leeds United's caretaker boss

:17:46. > :17:54.A charity in Chesterfield has offered to help the family of

:17:55. > :17:57.Ashya King, the five`year`old boy who was taken from hospital by his

:17:58. > :18:04.They are currently being held by police in Spain.

:18:05. > :18:07.Ashya has brain cancer and his parents say they removed him

:18:08. > :18:19.from the hospital because they want him to have proton beam therapy.

:18:20. > :18:22.It costs around ?100,000 and is not available on the NHS

:18:23. > :18:25.but the charity Kids 'n' Cancer says it will fund the treatment.

:18:26. > :18:42.His parents say they were not happy with his treatment and wanted proton

:18:43. > :18:46.beam therapy. The treatment the NHS wouldn't provide.

:18:47. > :18:50.It is so much better for children with brain cancer. It is in Zenani

:18:51. > :18:57.area, whereby normal radiation passes right through his head and

:18:58. > :19:04.comes out the other side. It can be directed at a more

:19:05. > :19:13.precisely than x`rays. Experts say it causes less damage. The charities

:19:14. > :19:21.say they will fund the treatment if he is suitable.

:19:22. > :19:27.What is a child's life worth? It is more than money. This is horrendous

:19:28. > :19:35.what is happening to this child and his family at this moment in time.

:19:36. > :19:40.This charity has helped several children over the years.

:19:41. > :19:46.Giving your child the option to have the best treatment. As it stands,

:19:47. > :19:50.America has the best treatment. It doesn't work for every tumour, we

:19:51. > :19:57.understand that, but if it does work for that child's humour, why not

:19:58. > :20:03.have it? Ashya King is being treated in Spain

:20:04. > :20:08.and his parents are refusing extradition.

:20:09. > :20:10.Let's move on to sport now with Tanya.

:20:11. > :20:12.Two of our sides are currently without a manager.

:20:13. > :20:40.Garcia is the favourite. Formerly Brighton. Currently unavailable

:20:41. > :20:49.since leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv. Steve Clark, a renowned coach, has

:20:50. > :20:55.talked to the club. And Simon Grayson, the former Leeds United

:20:56. > :20:59.manager has been linked but he has distanced himself from it. As for

:21:00. > :21:04.Huddersfield, it looks more clear`cut. Chris Powell is the

:21:05. > :21:10.favourite with all the bookmakers. They have definitely talked to him

:21:11. > :21:15.and hopefully we should have both in place by the end of the week.

:21:16. > :21:17.Well, with a look at that win for Leeds against Bolton

:21:18. > :21:20.and news of some of our other teams, here's Shamir Masri.

:21:21. > :21:22.A rare moment of happiness for Leeds United fans.

:21:23. > :21:25.Stephen Warnock made it look easy to score in the 17th minute

:21:26. > :21:31.and earn United a 1`0 win, their second in the Championship.

:21:32. > :21:33.I know the players, they are a good bunch.

:21:34. > :21:37.Half of them are mine anyway so it is not a problem.

:21:38. > :21:45.Huddersfield Town will hope to appoint a new manager soon.

:21:46. > :22:38.After Saturday's defeat they sat just above the relegation zone.

:22:39. > :23:35.Connor Hourihane put them ahead but an own goal from Martin Cranie

:23:36. > :23:38.and are the only team that could stop St Helens from finishing top.

:23:39. > :23:42.You can see more from that match on tonight's Super League Show.

:23:43. > :23:49.and available on iPlayer from tomorrow morning.

:23:50. > :23:51.Alistair Brownlee celebrated victory in the final World Series triathlon

:23:52. > :23:53.of the season yesterday while brother Jonathan missed out

:23:54. > :23:59.Alistair broke away from the field during the run to take his second

:24:00. > :24:05.Johnny needed to win to stand any chance of regaining

:24:06. > :24:09.the world crown but finished fourth in Canada and third overall.

:24:10. > :24:20.That allowed Spaniard Javier Gomez to claim his fourth world title.

:24:21. > :24:35.That is your lot. I think it may be a busy week.

:24:36. > :24:40.Did you have a good weekend? Domestic slavery really.

:24:41. > :24:43.Finally tonight, how about this for a weird and wonderful weekend event?

:24:44. > :24:45.A charity claims to have set a record

:24:46. > :24:48.for the largest ever gathering of people dressed as Sherlock Holmes.

:24:49. > :24:57.Around 400 people gathered in fancy dress at Temple Newsham yesterday.

:24:58. > :25:04.Domestic slavery, does your wife now you call it that?

:25:05. > :25:15.She doesn't do anything. It is all me.

:25:16. > :25:23.Let us see the pictures that came in over the weekend. Thank you for

:25:24. > :25:27.that, Martin. The next is a sunset from Ilkley Moor. This is a

:25:28. > :25:36.beautiful one. Keep the pictures coming in.

:25:37. > :25:51.Our guests turned out to be the coolest for over 20 years. Details

:25:52. > :26:00.on the blog. There will be some sunshine around but a big

:26:01. > :26:08.improvement on August, despite the cloud. There is lots of cloud out

:26:09. > :26:16.there at the moment. Some brief sunny spells and lots of cloud. That

:26:17. > :26:24.cloud will break up, especially central and western areas. It makes

:26:25. > :26:33.to thicken in the East. The sun will rise in the morning at 6:16am.

:26:34. > :26:40.Western areas are off to a lovely start. Bright with some sunshine.

:26:41. > :26:44.That will gradually drift westwards through the morning and then we are

:26:45. > :26:51.all in the same variable weather conditions were that the chance of

:26:52. > :26:58.an odd light shower. Let's look at those top temperatures. A light

:26:59. > :27:05.easterly breeze means just 15 degrees in Scarborough. More

:27:06. > :27:14.pleasant inland. More of the same through the week with warm weather

:27:15. > :27:16.sun raking through the clouds. What are your predictions for

:27:17. > :27:21.September? It looks fine and settled in Italy

:27:22. > :27:27.September. Late September? Unsettled.

:27:28. > :27:29.That is it. Goodbye.
