:00:00. > :00:07.An angry and emotional public meeting.

:00:08. > :00:10.A walk`out as councillors in Rotherham face the public

:00:11. > :00:14.for the first time over child sex exploitation.

:00:15. > :00:19.We are very angry and we don't know why all of you have not resigned.

:00:20. > :00:22.It has also emerged that South Yorkshire's chief constable got his

:00:23. > :00:25.facts wrong when he appeared in Parliament yesterday.

:00:26. > :02:08.and that they should resign. Before the meeting there was quite dignity

:02:09. > :02:16.and distress. I have lived here for over 70 years. I am powder that but

:02:17. > :02:25.this has gone worldwide. But despite an apology, feelings came to the

:02:26. > :02:31.surface. We are very angry and we do not know why all the view have not

:02:32. > :02:37.resigned. Our children were being raped. You are telling me as a

:02:38. > :02:43.borough councillor you can set the and tell me that you were not

:02:44. > :02:50.allowed to say anything or that you would not say anything. Opposition

:02:51. > :02:58.councillors from UKIP were also keen to be hard. It is nine years since

:02:59. > :03:02.the council were briefed as a confidential seminar about child sex

:03:03. > :03:11.exploitation. Why did you wait nine years? Why did no one asked for a

:03:12. > :03:19.progress report? Some members of the public left early shouting that

:03:20. > :03:24.there should be resignations. I do not think anything will happen.

:03:25. > :03:32.Because it is Pakistani men, they are too scared to do anything. The

:03:33. > :03:36.director of children's services took questions from the Cabinet. Our

:03:37. > :03:44.prevention strategies are stronger today and better developed. After

:03:45. > :03:50.reassuring the meeting that victims would be believed and supported,

:03:51. > :03:54.this woman left and refused to give an interview. The deputy leader of

:03:55. > :04:01.the council did speak after the meeting. When any officer or

:04:02. > :04:10.counsellor comes forward with information that leaves them cup

:04:11. > :04:14.football `` culpable, they should resign. This is the first

:04:15. > :04:20.opportunity for the public to hold them to account. You heard the

:04:21. > :04:23.acting deputy leader of the Council the talking about the possibility of

:04:24. > :04:25.further action against officers or councillors of information kids are

:04:26. > :04:27.like the possibility of further action against officers or

:04:28. > :04:29.councillors of information kids alike implicated them. The Labour

:04:30. > :04:31.Party have already suspended for Mac people pending investigation. There

:04:32. > :04:36.was a hint at the meeting today that there could be more action to come.

:04:37. > :04:44.One of the people who was in charge between May 2005` May 2010, was

:04:45. > :04:49.Shaun Wright. Here's no the Police and Crime Commissioner for

:04:50. > :04:53.Yorkshire. Today, Sheffield City Council declared that they had lost

:04:54. > :04:57.confidence in Shaun Wright. They called on him to resign. They went

:04:58. > :05:00.further and said that there should be an investigation in Sheffield

:05:01. > :05:06.following the revelations in Rotherham. We also heard today from

:05:07. > :05:10.one of the key players from that time, the former police Constable of

:05:11. > :05:13.South Yorkshire. He has released a statement today saying he would like

:05:14. > :05:17.to offer his sincere personal apologies to the victims of abuse

:05:18. > :05:22.and their families. He says that he was not aware of the abuse and he

:05:23. > :05:26.did not cover the top or refuse to give resources to investigate it. He

:05:27. > :05:30.said that it was right that people have the right to know what the

:05:31. > :05:36.police service does and he accepts that there should be scrutiny. He

:05:37. > :05:41.will give another statement in due course, probably after the

:05:42. > :05:45.investigation. That is the former chief constable, but the County

:05:46. > :05:52.Council has more questions to answer. `` current County Council

:05:53. > :05:56.has more questions to answer. In a separate development, Sheffield

:05:57. > :05:58.Council today unanimously called for South Yorkshire Police and

:05:59. > :06:00.Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright to step down, saying the people of the

:06:01. > :06:04.county had no confidence in him. You may remember yesterday South

:06:05. > :06:06.Yorkshire's chief constable appeared before the Home Affairs Select

:06:07. > :06:08.Committee to talk about Rotherham. He was asked how many people have

:06:09. > :06:10.been convicted for child sex offences in the past

:06:11. > :06:18.18 months in South Yorkshire. How many people have been convicted?

:06:19. > :06:24.There have been 104 convictions. `` prosecutions. How many people have

:06:25. > :06:30.been convicted. That is prosecutions, but how many were

:06:31. > :06:40.actually convicted. So there have been 104 convictions? So you have

:06:41. > :06:43.now had prosecutions and convictions. Yes.

:06:44. > :06:45.It has since emerged that is not true.

:06:46. > :06:48.Today, his office said David Crompton had made an error

:06:49. > :06:51.while giving evidence ` in fact, only 37 people have been convicted.

:06:52. > :06:53.You saw the committee chairman Keith Vas there.

:06:54. > :07:01.What do you make of the man in charge of South Yorkshire Police

:07:02. > :07:15.It is very regrettable. I have spoken to David Crompton today and

:07:16. > :07:20.he said that he had made a mistake and he was writing to me to correct

:07:21. > :07:29.that mistake. I had asked in the pits that information into a

:07:30. > :07:33.particular format. After giving the wrong figure yesterday, we want the

:07:34. > :07:38.figures in writing. The figure that you have given me now is more

:07:39. > :07:42.information than I had following my conversation with dad`mac. I'm

:07:43. > :07:51.grateful to the BBC for providing me with those figures. He has promised

:07:52. > :07:55.to give the information. It is regrettable he did not have the

:07:56. > :08:00.information yesterday, because it is a serious and sensitive issue. We

:08:01. > :08:09.need to get all the facts. People want to see that the people who are

:08:10. > :08:10.responsible are prosecuted and as convicted `` prosecuted and

:08:11. > :08:17.convicted. Yesterday, you called the force

:08:18. > :08:20.incompetent and said "criminals must be rubbing their hands with glee at

:08:21. > :08:23.the thought of dealing with them". Do you have any confidence in

:08:24. > :08:35.South Yorkshire police? I do not think it is for me to say

:08:36. > :08:40.that, I think it is up to the local police force and the local people to

:08:41. > :08:44.decide. Considering the circumstances of events that I heard

:08:45. > :08:46.yesterday, and having read some of the information that has been sent

:08:47. > :08:51.to us that will be released at the end of the week, South Yorkshire has

:08:52. > :08:57.not acted with the kind of competence that we would expect from

:08:58. > :09:01.a British police force. I think the chief constable excepts that and

:09:02. > :09:06.believes that they could've acted much better. We were concerned about

:09:07. > :09:13.the lack of coherence and competence. For example, when they

:09:14. > :09:19.dealt with the BBC over the issue of Cliff Richard. That is a separate

:09:20. > :09:21.issue, that we may discuss another time.

:09:22. > :09:24.Let's move onto Shaun Wright, who will be giving evidence

:09:25. > :09:29.How is it a man who was in charge of Children's Services at the height

:09:30. > :09:32.of the child abuse ` can he keep his job as police commissioner after

:09:33. > :09:40.countless calls for him to step down and a vote of no confidence?

:09:41. > :09:55.You need to as him. We have decided today that we will be hearing from

:09:56. > :10:01.Meredith Hughes. We have also asked Shaun Wright to come. We need to

:10:02. > :10:05.wait until we have the evidence before we make up our minds.

:10:06. > :10:10.Sheffield Council and others have made up their minds, but I think we

:10:11. > :10:17.need to hear from him first before coming to a judgement. Do you think

:10:18. > :10:20.you should step down? I think you should be allowed to give evidence

:10:21. > :10:25.to us before we come to any conclusions. Other people had made

:10:26. > :10:29.their decisions, but it is not need to make that decision. He is a

:10:30. > :10:31.witness at the select committee and he should be able to give his

:10:32. > :10:36.evidence in his own way. What price could Yorkshire pay

:10:37. > :10:39.for Scottish independence? With just two weeks to go, would we

:10:40. > :10:43.win or lose on the jobs front if Next tonight,

:10:44. > :10:52.the speeding driver who police say allowed his grandson to kneel on

:10:53. > :10:56.the front seat without a seatbelt. 66`year`old John Naisbitt,

:10:57. > :11:00.from Hetton`le`hole in North Yorkshire, was banned

:11:01. > :11:02.for six months and fined ?115. He is one of 24,000 drivers who have

:11:03. > :11:05.been caught by North Yorkshire's The bulk of these, just over 20,000,

:11:06. > :11:11.were first offenders who were In 396 cases, the offences were

:11:12. > :11:35.considered so serious Police could not believe what they

:11:36. > :11:39.were seeing. A child appears to be kneeling on the passenger seat with

:11:40. > :11:47.no seat belt. The driver is lighting a cigarette and speeding at 70 mph

:11:48. > :11:55.in a 60 limit. The car was being driven by this man. Today, he was

:11:56. > :12:01.disqualified for six months and fined ?150. In court he argued that

:12:02. > :12:05.his grandson was in a booster seat and he claimed that the seat belt

:12:06. > :12:14.had gone behind him. This is the road that he was driving on. This

:12:15. > :12:16.junction has become known as dangerous corner. But as the man

:12:17. > :12:23.approached that he was speeding and lighting a cigarette. Right next to

:12:24. > :12:26.him on the passenger seat was an unrestrained child. North Yorkshire

:12:27. > :12:31.Police said that this case should serve as a warning to motorists to

:12:32. > :12:37.keep children safe in the car. I have got children and I understand

:12:38. > :12:46.that they want to move about. But you are responsible for the care of

:12:47. > :12:50.the child in your car. The man told magistrates he has lung cancer and

:12:51. > :12:55.he needs to drive to hospital. He says his wife is disabled. But this

:12:56. > :13:00.was the fourth time he had been caught speeding in three years. Now

:13:01. > :13:06.he has been banned for six months and police hope it will be a wake`up

:13:07. > :13:11.call. A man has been jailed

:13:12. > :13:14.for five years for raping a woman 45`year`old Jeremy Frazer Newsome

:13:15. > :13:17.Smith, from London, attacked a 20`year`old girl at the La Chambre

:13:18. > :13:20.club in the city last September. The woman was there with friends

:13:21. > :13:23.at a Halloween party. Police have praised her

:13:24. > :13:29.for her courage. Services on part of Sheffield's tram

:13:30. > :13:32.network are to remain suspended for the rest of the week after

:13:33. > :13:35.a hole opened up near the track. Blue and purple routes are currently

:13:36. > :13:38.suspended between the main railway Sheffield Supertram says the problem

:13:39. > :13:42.could affect the safety of services. Engineers are working to

:13:43. > :13:44.determine the cause of the hole. Some BBC channel numbers have

:13:45. > :13:46.changed on Freeview today and some of you may still need to

:13:47. > :13:49.re`tune your set. Viewers in Chesterfield

:13:50. > :13:51.and some parts of South Yorkshire For help and advice

:13:52. > :13:56.on re`tuning Freeview call Digital UK on 03456 50 50 50 or go

:13:57. > :14:07.to digitaluk.co.uk/retuning. The family and friends

:14:08. > :14:10.of missing Huddersfield schoolboy Isaac Nash are hoping to raise

:14:11. > :14:13.?50,000 to build a skate The 12 year old hasn't been seen

:14:14. > :14:36.since he was swept out to sea This was Isaac doing his ice bucket

:14:37. > :14:41.challenge. The water came from a freezing mountain stream and this

:14:42. > :14:51.footage was taken one day before he died. His friends say it was

:14:52. > :14:55.typical. Isaac was always getting into trouble in class. He did

:14:56. > :15:04.anything he could to make everyone smile. He was really nice and really

:15:05. > :15:10.funny and he got into trouble all the time. Happy memories and more

:15:11. > :15:19.recently sad memories also. It has been very strange without him. There

:15:20. > :15:27.is no one to laugh with because he is not there. We do a cross country

:15:28. > :15:32.at our school every year and he always won. We hope that we can name

:15:33. > :15:44.the trophy after him. He would of won again. He liked skating and we

:15:45. > :15:52.want to raise money to make a skate park. Isaac was swept out to sea

:15:53. > :15:57.while on holiday last Friday. The search has failed to find him and

:15:58. > :16:04.now it is being scaled down. His body may never be found. All that is

:16:05. > :16:09.left is pictures and memories. Since it happened, we have been getting

:16:10. > :16:16.together and talking about him. We went to the park and played on the

:16:17. > :16:21.swing that he liked. A lovely tribute.

:16:22. > :16:23.It is just over two weeks until Scotland decides on independence

:16:24. > :16:27.and all this week on Look North we have been looking at what

:16:28. > :16:30.Tonight, we are talking money ` specifically what might happen to

:16:31. > :16:33.our banks and other financial institutions if there is a yes vote.

:16:34. > :16:36.As our business correspondent, Danni Hewson, has been finding out,

:16:37. > :16:40.it could have major implications for jobs.

:16:41. > :16:48.If you thought that the Scottish referendum was a long way away from

:16:49. > :16:52.here, talk to anyone who talks in Yorkshire `` who works in

:16:53. > :16:56.Yorkshire's financial sector. Those companies with offices here do

:16:57. > :17:00.business in Scotland. The Yes campaign says that independence

:17:01. > :17:04.should not make a difference to hide the companies operate, but the No

:17:05. > :17:07.campaign says that there will be no pint and less security. Some

:17:08. > :17:11.academics believe that the uncertainty will push businesses to

:17:12. > :17:16.move and Yorkshire may be a good option. At the moment banks are

:17:17. > :17:21.underwritten by the Bank of England, so there is a strong

:17:22. > :17:24.central bank that makes sure that there is a government standing

:17:25. > :17:30.behind the financial services sector. In the event of a yes vote,

:17:31. > :17:40.that is not going to exist because there will not be a currency union.

:17:41. > :17:48.One name has an issue. Many people at Yorkshire bank work across the

:17:49. > :17:51.borders. People here have admitted that they are looking at contingency

:17:52. > :17:55.plans. They did not want to add any more to the statement at this time.

:17:56. > :18:02.There is speculation that it could mean the relocation of hundreds of

:18:03. > :18:06.jobs to Yorkshire. Lloyds TSB had indicated that a yes vote may cost

:18:07. > :18:13.them to move south. But others think there is no need. There is no

:18:14. > :18:17.economic case for the not being a currency union. It is in the best

:18:18. > :18:26.interest of the UK and Scotland. With the boards approaching

:18:27. > :18:27.quickly, the only certainty is uncertainty. That is proving that

:18:28. > :18:28.for business. And we will continue with our look

:18:29. > :18:31.at what the Scottish independence referendum means for Yorkshire

:18:32. > :18:33.tomorrow, here on Look North. Looking for the hero

:18:34. > :18:37.in your community. Our annual Yorkshire Awards are

:18:38. > :18:40.round the corner and we are Football now,

:18:41. > :18:57.and Huddersfield Town have appointed It is Chris Powell `

:18:58. > :19:01.the former Charlton boss ` who has been given the job of lifting

:19:02. > :19:04.Huddersfield up the Championship table, after the departure of

:19:05. > :19:06.Mark Robins three weeks ago. A short time ago,

:19:07. > :19:22.our reporter Paul Ogden welcomed him Is it not strange how things ball

:19:23. > :19:29.into place. It has been three weeks since Mark Robins left his job.

:19:30. > :19:34.Huddersfield have been taking the time to find the right man for the

:19:35. > :19:40.job. Welcome to Huddersfield. What do you think is wrong here? I do not

:19:41. > :19:47.think that they are many things that are wrong. I am very impressed with

:19:48. > :19:51.the vision that people have for the club. I have looked around the

:19:52. > :20:00.stadium and the training ground and there is a lot to like. I think that

:20:01. > :20:09.we will loss on `` I think that we will do very well. I want to see the

:20:10. > :20:15.team compete. I want them to play their football

:20:16. > :20:21.goals and be a winning football team. I am looking forward to

:20:22. > :20:28.working with them. What do you think about moving to Yorkshire? People

:20:29. > :20:34.may think you are a Londoner. I was born in London that I'm going to

:20:35. > :20:41.embrace Huddersfield. I am excited coming up here, living up here, and

:20:42. > :20:43.working up here. People here are good and proud of their football

:20:44. > :22:22.team. Another warm welcome to you. So Yorkshire won by more than

:22:23. > :22:28.an innings and have extended their lead in the Championship with

:22:29. > :22:45.two matches left to play. The one cloud to Yorkshire's silver

:22:46. > :22:48.lining and that is that they'll have to finish the job without

:22:49. > :22:50.Captain Andrew Gale. He has been suspended

:22:51. > :22:52.for two matches after arguing with a Lancashire player as they came

:22:53. > :22:55.off the field yesterday. Now, it's that time of year

:22:56. > :22:58.when we ask you to tell us It is part

:22:59. > :23:01.of the 26th annual Yorkshire Awards, and we want you to tell us who

:23:02. > :23:04.in your community has inspired you. It could be anyone from your local

:23:05. > :23:07.football coach to people raising money for charity ` anyone who you

:23:08. > :23:10.think deserves recognition for their We'll tell you how you can nominate

:23:11. > :23:15.someone in just a moment, but first Dave Edwards takes a look back

:23:16. > :23:28.at some of the previous winners. Last year, the hero award went to

:23:29. > :23:34.Mike Collins who has been working with the Scouts for nearly 50 years.

:23:35. > :23:41.He has helped his team unity for decades as a volunteer. He also

:23:42. > :23:52.helped rescue people during the full odds. The roads were badly flooded

:23:53. > :23:59.last year. We had to help people in the houses over the who,

:24:00. > :24:07.unfortunately, got flooded badly. This drop`in centre was founded by a

:24:08. > :24:15.man called Sam, who founded it in 2012. It is to create opportunities

:24:16. > :24:19.for young people and more appropriate facilities for young

:24:20. > :24:22.people. It is an alternative to congregating on the streets and aims

:24:23. > :24:33.to cut youth crime and anti`social behaviour. In 2011, this woman one

:24:34. > :24:36.for setting up a home for young men with drug addictions. When a woman

:24:37. > :24:41.comes and says to me that she has got her son back, I think it is very

:24:42. > :24:47.nice. And before that, it was clear wood. She had arthritis diagnosed at

:24:48. > :24:52.only 15 years old. She has raised tens of thousands of pounds for

:24:53. > :24:59.charity. My fundraising will continue as long as I can.

:25:00. > :25:03.So, who do think deserves this year's award?

:25:04. > :25:07.Well to nominate someone you need to tell us in under 100 words why you

:25:08. > :25:11.think they deserve to be Yorkshire's Community Hero of 2014.

:26:14. > :26:17.as today. `` today the weather will be much the same as today. There

:26:18. > :26:28.will be good weather in the next couple of days. Today, there was

:26:29. > :26:36.quite a lot of cloud. This evening, some of the cloud will disappear and

:26:37. > :26:43.there will be some clear spells before the cloud returns. It will be

:26:44. > :26:56.a mild night, temperatures of 13 Celsius. The sun will rise at

:26:57. > :27:06.6:19am. It will be a great start to the day. `` grey start. But by the

:27:07. > :27:21.afternoon we will see some sunny spells between the cloud. Today, it

:27:22. > :27:29.was 20 Celsius. It will be similar tomorrow. It will be dry on Friday,

:27:30. > :27:35.with cloudy skies and some sunny spells. Over the weekend, there will

:27:36. > :27:43.be thick clouds and embraced us skies developing on Sunday. `` there

:27:44. > :27:45.will be brighter skies developing on Sunday.
