:00:10. > :00:14.South Yorkshire's beleaguerdd police commissioner faces the publhc.

:00:15. > :00:15.Angry victims of child sexual exploitation

:00:16. > :00:18.in Rotherham tell Shaun Wright exactly that they think of him.

:00:19. > :00:21.I have had to live with this for 12 years and what have you done

:00:22. > :00:27.We will hear how a vote of no confidence in Mr Wright has

:00:28. > :00:32.The Yorkshire medical teams promising injured servicemen

:00:33. > :00:38.We have a special report from Afghanistan.

:00:39. > :00:41.The sun is shining for Ladids' Day at the St Leger in Doncaster.

:00:42. > :01:12.First tonight to heated scenes at a public meeting in Rothdrham,

:01:13. > :01:14.where victims of grooming came face`to`face with

:01:15. > :01:17.the police and crime commissioner at the centre of the child sexual

:01:18. > :01:19.Shaun Wright appeared beford South Yorkshire's Police and Crime

:01:20. > :01:22.Panel ` the organisation whose job it is to scrutinise his acthons

:01:23. > :01:24.The public were also invited and he faced a barrage

:01:25. > :01:28.of questions ` before being told the panel had no confidence in him and

:01:29. > :01:34.Our political editor, Len Thngle, was at the hearing.

:01:35. > :01:48.Len, a lot of angry people in that meeting today.

:01:49. > :01:58.In the and to attend. Sever`l days ago, it was MPs from Westminster.

:01:59. > :02:03.Today it was harder questions from a different source. There werd around

:02:04. > :02:09.40 people in the public gallery many of whom were victims or friends

:02:10. > :02:11.and family some of the young girls who were sexually assaulted. Look at

:02:12. > :02:20.reception he received. This was the first chance for

:02:21. > :02:23.victims and their families to confront the Police and Crile

:02:24. > :02:33.Commissioner since the extent of Shaun Wright's sexual assault had

:02:34. > :02:36.been uncovered. Everybody in this country is asking you to resign Why

:02:37. > :02:44.will you not doing the corrdct thing? I have had to live whth this

:02:45. > :02:53.for 12 years. You should st`nd down. Stand down. Shaun Wright shrugged

:02:54. > :02:58.the criticism off. He said the blame was on more than his shoulddrs. I

:02:59. > :03:02.accept that many people havd called on me to resign. I accept that and

:03:03. > :03:07.some of the reasons for that. However, I believe that everyone

:03:08. > :03:13.shares the responsibility of keeping young people safe. It takes a hokey

:03:14. > :03:31.minute it takes a hokey mintted of a child. `` it takes a keen unity to

:03:32. > :03:37.look after the interests of a child. Earlier this week, Shaun Wrhght told

:03:38. > :03:42.MPs he had received many messages of support. He was asked to nale them.

:03:43. > :03:48.Many of the messages of support have come in many different form`ts. I

:03:49. > :03:53.have not asked the individu`ls if I can share those messages, bdcause

:03:54. > :04:00.they've made any private capacity. This panel made up from councillors

:04:01. > :04:08.across Yorkshire, dated the most strong action they could. It was

:04:09. > :04:12.another call for his resign`tion. It is terrible that they commissioner

:04:13. > :04:16.has been able to walk away from a meeting today still holding the

:04:17. > :04:21.position that he holds. Somd of the evidence that we heard was harrowing

:04:22. > :04:28.from victims and from victils' family. I believe that the

:04:29. > :04:32.Commissioner is now part of the problem rather than part of the

:04:33. > :04:37.solution. Shaun Wright said that despite the pressure he is staying

:04:38. > :04:39.Well, after the meeting Len spoke exclusively to the police

:04:40. > :04:43.commissioner Shaun Wright and began by asking him about his priorities

:04:44. > :04:58.put. I have made it very cldar from the beginning that this will be

:04:59. > :05:04.tackled as a priority. Therd has been no other Police Commissioner or

:05:05. > :05:08.police force that has invested the three authors `` invested the

:05:09. > :05:11.resources that we have here. Everyone has responsibility for

:05:12. > :05:20.looking after children, we `ll need to work together. That does not mean

:05:21. > :05:25.that we are going to be abld to completely prevent this frol taking

:05:26. > :05:34.place. It is very difficult to stop. Do you have any credibility to push

:05:35. > :05:40.for it that opinion? Everyone from the Prime Minister down the way says

:05:41. > :05:44.that you should go. I am afraid to say that everyone from the Prime

:05:45. > :05:49.Minister down has probably not read the report. So everybody is wrong

:05:50. > :05:56.and you are the only person that is right? You are the only person who

:05:57. > :06:02.can champion because of these girls? I am happy to stand by my rdcord.

:06:03. > :06:07.But your record shows that xou have not even managed to reduce the rate

:06:08. > :06:14.of this crime. My record shows that I and the police force have put in

:06:15. > :06:18.place a huge amount of work and action. There are ten times more

:06:19. > :06:25.police officers and much more investment than we have ever had in

:06:26. > :06:32.the past. When I came into office, there were ten people dealing with

:06:33. > :06:37.this and now there are 62. Xou said that you have lots of support to

:06:38. > :06:41.carry on, including from MPs. We contacted all the MPs a Yorkshire

:06:42. > :06:49.and 12 of them said that yot should go and the other two did not give an

:06:50. > :06:51.answer. Many people have sent me e`mails and text messages and phone

:06:52. > :07:00.calls expressing many different views. I understand why people may

:07:01. > :07:06.think that I should resign on the back of lots of publicity over this

:07:07. > :07:12.be bought. People think that I have questions to answer. I have

:07:13. > :07:15.addressed those questions in a respectful way and today I have put

:07:16. > :07:21.out my own account of what took place. I maintain that I take my

:07:22. > :07:25.share of the responsibility along with the council and the police and

:07:26. > :07:29.all the other members of st`ff who were involved. Everyone needs to

:07:30. > :07:46.take some of the responsibility We know that there is going to be an

:07:47. > :07:49.independent inquiry. Now, this committee has referred Shaun Wright

:07:50. > :08:00.to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. After the second week

:08:01. > :08:02.since this report is published, Shaun Wright now knows he h`s many

:08:03. > :08:04.more questions to answer. Well, one of

:08:05. > :08:06.the people who confronted the crime She was 11

:08:07. > :08:10.when she says she was groomdd by a Holly and her mother spoke to

:08:11. > :08:28.Phil Bodmer after the meeting. While I was on the care of the local

:08:29. > :08:37.party, I was groomed and abtsed by a no`win sex offender. NDN, I was the

:08:38. > :08:44.one who was arrested. Frustrated and angry. Failed by the police, Shaun

:08:45. > :08:54.Wright, and the council. Thhs women spoke out in front of the p`nel The

:08:55. > :09:01.police seem to know that people were having inappropriate sex. She says

:09:02. > :09:08.that the abuse started when she was around 13 years old. I was talking

:09:09. > :09:12.to a man who was 23 years old. On one occasion, the police cale and

:09:13. > :09:21.find me with him in a hotel. They let him walk free. When he walked

:09:22. > :09:27.out, they put me in a policd car and told me that he was on the sex

:09:28. > :09:31.offenders register. You knew and they knew that he was on thd

:09:32. > :09:43.register, but no action was taken no. The girl's mother also spoke at

:09:44. > :09:51.the meeting. I ask Shaun Wrhght today `` I asked Shaun Wright today

:09:52. > :09:58.what had happened and whethdr these girls would be safe. He did not

:09:59. > :10:08.answer my question. People `re not happy and they do not want him here.

:10:09. > :10:16.This girl says that the sittation to her youth away from her. Yot have to

:10:17. > :10:20.grow up then. Meanwhile, thhs woman says she has little confidence in

:10:21. > :10:24.Shaun Wright or the council. She believes that if he stays in power

:10:25. > :10:33.nothing will change. How dods that make you feel? Scared. I am scared

:10:34. > :10:36.for Rotherham. I am scared for the children. What is he is doing?

:10:37. > :10:40.As Yorkshire close in on thd County Championship title,

:10:41. > :10:53.It has been another great d`y for Yorkshire. They need only fhve more

:10:54. > :10:56.wickets tomorrow. A South Yorkshire Police officer

:10:57. > :10:58.charged with causing a teenage girl to engage

:10:59. > :11:01.in sexual activity has appe`red Daniel Cookson ` seen here hn the

:11:02. > :11:07.blue shirt and tie ` was suspended The offence allegedly occurred

:11:08. > :11:13.between March and November last year,

:11:14. > :11:15.while he was based in Rotherham Mr Cookson appeared at

:11:16. > :11:18.Leeds Crown Court this mornhng. He was released on bail to `ppear at

:11:19. > :11:23.Sheffield Crown Court next Thursday. The Bradford`based supermarket chain

:11:24. > :11:29.Morrisons has had a 51% fall in profits for the first half

:11:30. > :11:31.of this year. Morrisons said profits were hit

:11:32. > :11:34.by a cut in prices to compete with Flood defences costing more than ?50

:11:35. > :11:43.million are being planned The scheme is an effort to prevent

:11:44. > :11:47.a repeat of the devastating damage caused by flooding in

:11:48. > :11:51.South Yorkshire in 2007. It is thought to be one

:11:52. > :11:54.of the largest projects Sheffield City Council says

:11:55. > :11:58.the investment is vital to protect We know that Sheffield is a city

:11:59. > :12:04.of rivers. We know that around 2,000 btsinesses

:12:05. > :12:08.and 6,000 residents are currently It is absolutely vital that we make

:12:09. > :12:13.this investment to protect those businesses ` particularly

:12:14. > :12:15.as flooding becomes more frdquent Don't forget,

:12:16. > :12:23.there are just a few days ldft to nominate your community hero

:12:24. > :12:28.for this year's Yorkshire Awards. To nominate someone you need to tell

:12:29. > :12:32.us in under 100 words why you think they deserve to be

:12:33. > :13:17.Yorkshire's Community Hero of 2 14. We have looked at the growing

:13:18. > :14:43.reputation of of that. It is about ensuring that

:14:44. > :14:54.our Armed Forces now that wd will be there to catch them if they fall. I

:14:55. > :15:02.am just feeling along the spine It has very good teamwork. We have a

:15:03. > :15:06.surgical team that step back and as they are required they are called

:15:07. > :15:12.forward. The success of this hospital comes in many forms. This

:15:13. > :15:20.body scanner assesses injurx. This scanner allows us to scan a whole

:15:21. > :15:28.person in 15 seconds. It allows us to see how bad the injuries are and

:15:29. > :15:38.helps us to plan the surgerx. If someone needs an application, they

:15:39. > :15:47.can use this machine to dechde how much of the remaining limb can be

:15:48. > :15:55.saved. The operating theatrd. The survival rates here are

:15:56. > :15:59.astonishing. We pride ourselves in the fact that we can give assurance

:16:00. > :16:06.that any soldier or patient that comes into this facility has a very

:16:07. > :16:09.good chance of survival. Thdy have worked hard over the last fdw years

:16:10. > :16:15.to achieve the state that they are in at the moment. It is a good

:16:16. > :16:21.legacy for us to leave behind. When I saw my first patient I was quite

:16:22. > :16:31.anxious. I did not know if H would be able to deal with it mentally. We

:16:32. > :16:37.have now been taught what to expect. If this is the end result, this is

:16:38. > :16:42.the beginning. The medical response team are at the first on thd team

:16:43. > :16:49.and they are often under attack You are really on the front lind. What

:16:50. > :16:59.do you do hear? This is the medical response team and we have RDF

:17:00. > :17:12.protection and a medical st`ff `` are eight F. Still. The repttation

:17:13. > :17:20.of the hospital is very good. Absolutely. The guys and thd girls

:17:21. > :17:25.on the ground are dealing whth the injuries immediately and thdn we

:17:26. > :17:33.come in and we can deliver lads and more exams techniques to increase

:17:34. > :17:37.the chance the patient will survive. When you get out you are behng shot

:17:38. > :17:43.at and you are under attack. How do you deal with that? There is always

:17:44. > :17:50.an element of danger. We ard very well trained. We are prepardd to

:17:51. > :17:56.deal with these situations. We try to reduce the risk as much `s we

:17:57. > :17:59.can, but the risk as much as we can, but there are protection guxs do an

:18:00. > :18:04.excellent job of protecting art on the ground. There is incredhble

:18:05. > :18:11.teamwork and professionalisl. Absolutely. We have to work

:18:12. > :18:15.together. We could not have the guys surviving the injuries with such

:18:16. > :18:26.good outcomes without the pdople on the ground. It is a massive team

:18:27. > :18:32.effort to give our guys the best quality of life.

:18:33. > :18:39.The hospital has earned its reputation and now it is up to the

:18:40. > :18:54.Afghans. It is a top reputation to follow. That lady works for the NHS

:18:55. > :18:56.when she is not abroad. Thex must have one of the most stressful jobs

:18:57. > :18:58.in the world. Also tomorrow night, we will meet

:18:59. > :19:01.the men from the RAF regiment based at Leeming who are responsible

:19:02. > :19:04.for the security of the basd ` some of the bravest servicelen

:19:05. > :19:07.and women I have come across. And, we will also meet the

:19:08. > :19:09.wonderful military working dogs They do an amazing job ` thdir level

:19:10. > :19:12.of training is incredible ` We will take a look at some of

:19:13. > :19:31.the fabulous fashions on display. Now onto cricket, and they `re

:19:32. > :19:35.within touching distance but Yorkshire will take thehr bid

:19:36. > :19:38.for the County Championship They enforced the follow`on this

:19:39. > :19:46.morning and it was nip and tuck Tanya Arnold is at Trent Brhdge

:19:47. > :20:02.for us. It has been fantastic. At one point

:20:03. > :20:11.this afternoon, we thought ht might all be over. However, they dropped

:20:12. > :20:12.if you captures. The bottom line is that Yorkshire need bit mord wickets

:20:13. > :20:31.to become the County Champions. Yorkshire began to tighten their

:20:32. > :20:44.grip on the game. They pickdd up three wickets before the ch`rge was

:20:45. > :20:51.halted, for a while. They ptt on 63. Yorkshire enforce the follow`on

:20:52. > :21:02.and Sidebottom struck immedhately. Then there was a great catch. It

:21:03. > :21:08.took a while, but they got there. There was some goods wicketkeeping.

:21:09. > :21:15.Sidebottom came back into the attack. The day ended with

:21:16. > :21:21.Nottingham 180 behind. I caught up with the acting

:21:22. > :21:33.Yorkshire captain. It was a good day. We got 10 wickets

:21:34. > :21:39.and that isn't Hasek. There is a lot of hard work to go tomorrow. To get

:21:40. > :21:41.to the position that we are now is a testament to how well the gtys have

:21:42. > :22:00.performed. If they do when, Andrew Gald will be

:22:01. > :22:06.picking up the trophy. I understand that he has been bought a Chelsea

:22:07. > :22:16.top to tease him. If Yorkshhre win the trophy tomorrow, it will be him

:22:17. > :22:22.that gets to lift it up. I cannot believe he would want to we`r a

:22:23. > :22:24.Chelsea shirt. There is no doubt that they are going to pull it off.

:22:25. > :22:26.Now, the lovely ladies of South Yorkshire and

:22:27. > :22:29.beyond have got their handb`gs and glad rags out today for the St Leger

:22:30. > :22:33.Yes, it is Ladies' Day and who better to judge all those

:22:34. > :22:37.fabulous frocks than our very own snappy dresser, Ian White.

:22:38. > :22:41.The weather is marvellous, the atmosphere is great, thd booze

:22:42. > :23:05.is flowing, and these guys `re happy because it is Ladies' Day

:23:06. > :23:15.This is the first time I have been to ladies day.

:23:16. > :23:37.We're just here for the weather and the beer.

:23:38. > :23:53.I normally have a bigger fascinator, but I thought I would tone ht

:23:54. > :23:58.I knew you were women who would have a bigger fascinator.

:23:59. > :24:06.We all have to ring each other and ask what we are wearing tod`y, so we

:24:07. > :24:24.Of course, not every lady here can entdr

:24:25. > :24:29.Right Mr White, there has been some reports that you

:24:30. > :25:13.It is about time that some rain slapped that cheeky man. `` some

:25:14. > :25:23.rain slapped. This photograph is amazing. It is the best one I have

:25:24. > :25:31.seen this year. I also like this photograph. It was taken on Monday

:25:32. > :25:32.morning. This photograph is also beautiful.

:25:33. > :25:52.There will be some myths and fog at first, but it will be a settled

:25:53. > :26:04.weekend. This afternoon, it was 20 Celsius in York. Overnight, this

:26:05. > :26:14.cloud will come inland. Somd areas are at risk of mist and fog. There

:26:15. > :26:27.will be some clear spells, with temperatures at around 7`11 Celsius.

:26:28. > :26:35.Here are the high water timds. There will be mist and fog and variable

:26:36. > :26:41.cloud. However, there will be pleasant sunshine breaking through

:26:42. > :26:55.the clouds. It will feel pldasant. In the afternoon, 15`16 Celsius

:26:56. > :26:58.Further inland, 17`18 Celsits. It will feel pleasant. That is the

:26:59. > :27:07.forecast. Welcome back.
