:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening, you're watching Wednesday's Look North.

:00:00. > :00:09.The front line in the fight against fracking.

:00:10. > :00:11.24 hours in the life of Yorkshire's protest camp,

:00:12. > :00:16.as the company looking for gas insists it's safe.

:00:17. > :00:18.After this you know, it will go everywhere,

:00:19. > :00:25.People have had a lot of myths and scaremongering thrown at them.

:00:26. > :00:29.Parents across Leeds are warned after a man

:00:30. > :00:34.exposed himself to children using a live-streaming phone app.

:00:35. > :00:36.Should drivers who kill get tougher sentences?

:00:37. > :00:39.The family of a hit and run victim take their petition

:00:40. > :00:53.Betty has lost another ?2! I think it is more nervous than anything

:00:54. > :00:55.else. And, Leeds comedy Fat Friends

:00:56. > :00:57.returns as a musical - we'll speak to the writer

:00:58. > :00:59.Kay Mellor. And it looks like tomorrow

:01:00. > :01:01.will be the coldest day Join me for the live

:01:02. > :01:14.updated forecast. Tonight, we start with a special

:01:15. > :01:17.report from inside the anti-fracking The area is one of only two sites

:01:18. > :01:22.in Britain where the controversial practice has been given

:01:23. > :01:24.the go ahead. The protesters who call themselves

:01:25. > :01:27.the "frontline in the fight against fracking" moved

:01:28. > :01:30.in just before Christmas. Initially a few people and a few

:01:31. > :01:33.tents, there's now a growing number calling a field at the edge

:01:34. > :01:36.of Kirby Misperton, their home. They've dug a toilet,

:01:37. > :01:39.erected a phone mast, and are even hoping to plumb

:01:40. > :01:44.in a kitchen sink. In a moment we'll hear

:01:45. > :01:47.from the company behind the plans, but first our business correspondent

:01:48. > :02:03.Danni Hewson reports on her 24 What is quickly apparent is the

:02:04. > :02:07.support this camp is receiving from within the local community.

:02:08. > :02:11.Donations of logs, food, water and many willing hands. It has become

:02:12. > :02:14.something of a hub and draws in visitors from right across the

:02:15. > :02:18.country. Some local campaigners had resisted the arrival of a camp, but

:02:19. > :02:22.others feel this was always the next step. We still want to go back to

:02:23. > :02:29.court and win on environmental grounds, but while this is here,

:02:30. > :02:32.people want to show it is the only way to say no politely,

:02:33. > :02:39.respectfully. The local support is very strong. We have come because we

:02:40. > :02:46.live locally, and we don't agree with fracking, and everyone is out

:02:47. > :02:49.here doing the very best, and it is cold, winter and miserable, and we

:02:50. > :02:53.just thought we would give a little back to help them to stop it can't

:02:54. > :02:57.come and because we are too busy, but we thought it would be a nice

:02:58. > :03:00.thing to do to do to come and give them some warm food. But it has only

:03:01. > :03:05.been a month, and those on site are preparing for a long campaign.

:03:06. > :03:09.Wi-Fi, sturdy structures are going up and of course there were no

:03:10. > :03:15.foundation. The self proclaimed protectors are trespassing. This

:03:16. > :03:19.site belongs to the owners of nearby flamingo land. It is not ideal, but

:03:20. > :03:25.that is the nature of the country we live in now. The amount of common

:03:26. > :03:30.land is very committed, particularly in this area, and the amount of

:03:31. > :03:35.unused land in this area is limited. We do have a plan B, but I can

:03:36. > :03:39.assure you that would have greater implications on the local committees

:03:40. > :03:43.and us being here. He says they have begun a dialogue with the landowner,

:03:44. > :03:47.but their presence on private land is a source of tension locally. As

:03:48. > :03:52.night falls, another issue emerges. With the visitors gone, most of

:03:53. > :03:59.those at the camp out of the area, many factions from other protests.

:04:00. > :04:04.Eddie is the exception. As we sat by the fire, I asked him what he hoped

:04:05. > :04:09.to achieve. Wherever that has been a protection camp there has been

:04:10. > :04:12.success. We have got optimism, we believe we will be successful. We

:04:13. > :04:15.would not count in this field through winter if we thought we

:04:16. > :04:20.weren't. We are going to stop the lorries. We made it through the

:04:21. > :04:24.night, which was absolutely freezing, as you can tell by the

:04:25. > :04:30.morning frost. Already, the fires are going and the kettle is on. For

:04:31. > :04:34.outsiders, it seems a strange life to choose. But, in the mind of those

:04:35. > :04:39.on camp, it is a battle that must be fought. This is the front line.

:04:40. > :04:42.After this, it will go everywhere so we have got to stop it here. The

:04:43. > :04:45.next few months will tell the story. So, the camp and

:04:46. > :04:47.protestors are ready. What do Third Energy

:04:48. > :04:59.think about them? I don't have a view that the

:05:00. > :05:04.protesters would want to listen to. I don't spend my time on social

:05:05. > :05:08.media. I don't spend my time on Twitter. We have got an important

:05:09. > :05:12.job to do, providing jobs for local people. We provide support for local

:05:13. > :05:18.businesses, we provide electricity for tens of thousands of local

:05:19. > :05:21.homes. What kind of thing will the people of the once you start? I want

:05:22. > :05:27.to know about how many lorries are going to be there, how many people

:05:28. > :05:31.are going to turn up to work. Give us an overview of what people can

:05:32. > :05:36.anticipate. They will see a lot of equipment going on site while we put

:05:37. > :05:40.it all together and do various tests, but when it comes to the

:05:41. > :05:45.actual operation, the fracking operation is only going to last an

:05:46. > :05:49.hour per zone. I am trying to get that point across. It is not going

:05:50. > :05:57.to be very disruptive, it is not going to cause any concern, or it

:05:58. > :06:04.shouldn't. They are used to us. Do you mean one hour per day? Each

:06:05. > :06:08.hydraulic stimulation might take a day to conduct from beginning to

:06:09. > :06:12.end, but the actual hydraulic fracturing operation will only last

:06:13. > :06:17.an hour for each of the five fracking sites. Let me ask you to

:06:18. > :06:24.put your reputation on the line. Is this totally safe? That question has

:06:25. > :06:30.been answered so many times. The way you should ask the question is, can

:06:31. > :06:34.it be conducted safely, and the answer is absolutely, yes. When I

:06:35. > :06:38.say safe, I also mean in a wider context of environmentally sound as

:06:39. > :06:42.well. You have got the all clear and you can start tomorrow. When will

:06:43. > :06:48.you start? We will start when we are ready. I have said already, there

:06:49. > :06:55.are conditions to be discharged by the Environment Agency, by the

:06:56. > :07:01.county council, and we have also got a programme that will need to be

:07:02. > :07:07.approved by the secretary of state. Imminent? You can expect it once we

:07:08. > :07:13.have achieved those objectives. Not much given away there. We expect

:07:14. > :07:14.things to be moving within the next few months.

:07:15. > :07:17.Later on Look North: The scenic villages shortlisted for a new HS2

:07:18. > :07:24.Parkway station in West and South Yorkshire.

:07:25. > :07:27.Parents of primary school children across Leeds have been sent warning

:07:28. > :07:30.letters about a mobile phone app following reports that a man

:07:31. > :07:33.The Lively app allows kids to easily broadcast live video

:07:34. > :07:38.from their phone camera to their online friends.

:07:39. > :07:42.But on Monday someone unknown joined the group.

:07:43. > :07:46.The letter warns the app is unsafe and provides opportunities

:07:47. > :08:00.If you have got children, this may be a familiar sight. Heads down,

:08:01. > :08:03.engrossed in tablets and phones. But an incident involving a group of

:08:04. > :08:06.year six pupils in Leeds this week has highlighted how important it is

:08:07. > :08:09.to be aware of what they are doing. Some children were talking to each

:08:10. > :08:14.other from their homes on Monday night to the social media at Lively.

:08:15. > :08:20.A man they did not know joined in the chat, and he went on to expose

:08:21. > :08:24.himself and performed a sex act. The next day, the school sent a letter

:08:25. > :08:48.to parents urging them to delete the app. It said,:

:08:49. > :08:55.A cyber trauma research helps children who may have seen something

:08:56. > :08:58.distressing online. She says the app Lively is a streaming platform

:08:59. > :09:03.actually designed for teenagers, so it has the potential to be dangerous

:09:04. > :09:09.for under 18s. Children may be streaming to an unknown audience.

:09:10. > :09:13.They might be visited by people who are not necessarily their friends or

:09:14. > :09:17.people that they know and trust, and the likelihood is, if they are

:09:18. > :09:21.viewing live streaming videos that there is a chance they could come

:09:22. > :09:25.across some material that is unsavoury. There seems to be a bit

:09:26. > :09:30.of a deficit in parental knowledge of what can actually happen online,

:09:31. > :09:36.and at the moment it seems that this deficit is what is being exploited

:09:37. > :09:41.by people who want to exploited. Nigel agrees with that. He has three

:09:42. > :09:46.children of school age, including 12-year-old Grace. He says it has up

:09:47. > :09:50.to parents to be more vigilant. I am in the minority of parents that no

:09:51. > :09:55.so much about what apps my children are using. I find it a bit lazy of

:09:56. > :09:58.parents. I think it is lazy parenting, not knowing what to

:09:59. > :10:03.children are doing. It is easy for parents to turn a blind eye, and say

:10:04. > :10:08.here is the latest iPhone and it keeps the children quiet for an

:10:09. > :10:14.hour. When I download the apps, I read the description to make sure I

:10:15. > :10:19.am the right age. I make sure my settings are on private. West

:10:20. > :10:23.Yorkshire Police has specialist detectives investigating the case,

:10:24. > :10:26.hunting for the man involved. This shocking incident is a reminder to

:10:27. > :10:30.parents to be vigilant when children are online.

:10:31. > :10:34.The family of a man who was killed in a hit and run incident in Leeds

:10:35. > :10:36.have taken a petition to Downing Street calling

:10:37. > :10:38.for tougher sentences for people convicted of dangerous

:10:39. > :10:43.James Gilbey was left dying on the roadside in 2015.

:10:44. > :10:46.The men responsible for his death were jailed for eight years,

:10:47. > :10:49.but Mr Gilbey's family say they should have been charged

:10:50. > :10:51.with manslaughter and given longer prison terms.

:10:52. > :11:04.The father of 25-year-old hit and run victim James Gilbey on the steps

:11:05. > :11:09.of number ten Downing St tonight. He has been delivering a petition

:11:10. > :11:12.signed by more than 15,000 people, calling for tougher sentences for

:11:13. > :11:16.those whose dangerous or careless driving leads to someone's death.

:11:17. > :11:21.James had been crossing a road in Leeds in July 20 15th when he was

:11:22. > :11:25.hit by a VW golf, which had been racing and Audi A5. It had been

:11:26. > :11:30.travelling at speeds of 80 mph in a 40 zone.

:11:31. > :11:33.When the case went to court last year, Majid Malik admitted causing

:11:34. > :11:36.Kaiz Mahmood was found guilty of the same offence.

:11:37. > :11:39.They had both driven off from the scene of the accident.

:11:40. > :11:41.They were both sentenced to eight years in jail.

:11:42. > :11:43.James Gilbey's father Richard has since been campaigning for drivers

:11:44. > :11:47.convicted of racing to face manslaughter charges,

:11:48. > :11:54.Arguing they should be of the same severity as manslaughter. When you

:11:55. > :11:57.go to court you rely on the judicial system to punish these people

:11:58. > :12:01.appropriate. I feel that with death by dangerous driving, that is not

:12:02. > :12:06.the case. It is too lenient, these sentences. People are walking out of

:12:07. > :12:10.court having served four years. It was considered so lenient, even by

:12:11. > :12:13.the family of those sentenced that my wife and I had to enjoy them

:12:14. > :12:18.running around the courtroom chanting and cheering in jubilation,

:12:19. > :12:22.shouting it is OK, they will be home in four years. While we sat there

:12:23. > :12:26.knowing that our boy would never come home again. The government is

:12:27. > :12:29.reviewing how such offences are dealt with but it means death by

:12:30. > :12:34.dangerous driving could increase from the current maximum of 14 years

:12:35. > :12:37.to life in prison. Death by careless driving involving drink and drugs

:12:38. > :12:44.would also increase from 14 years to life in jail. It seems at the moment

:12:45. > :12:48.there is concern and questions being raised, hence the government

:12:49. > :12:54.consultation, about the fact that 14 years as a maximum term for a case

:12:55. > :12:59.where someone has died is not seem to be quite enough. So really, it is

:13:00. > :13:06.going to give the judges more room to manoeuvre and be fairer in how

:13:07. > :13:09.sentences are in post. New sentencing guidelines will not bring

:13:10. > :13:13.James Gilbey back but his family hope that at least his death may

:13:14. > :13:14.bring about significant change and it will also act as a strong

:13:15. > :13:19.deterrent to offenders. Lorraine Allaway also

:13:20. > :13:21.wants tougher sentences. She handed her own petition

:13:22. > :13:23.into Downing Street last October. Her husband Robert was killed

:13:24. > :13:25.by a drunk driver in His killer was given

:13:26. > :13:42.a 4.5 year sentence. Remind us what happened to Robert.

:13:43. > :13:47.He was joining me and my family, and we were all waiting for my sister to

:13:48. > :13:51.die of cancer. So he was going to join us before we went up for the

:13:52. > :13:59.last time to say our goodbyes. On his way to meet up with us, Mr Crook

:14:00. > :14:05.hit him head-on and killed him instantly. His killer was given 4.5

:14:06. > :14:11.years will stop he is due to be released next September. How does

:14:12. > :14:15.that make you feel? I am a bit aggrieved about it. I was aggrieved

:14:16. > :14:22.at the time of the sentencing because we were expecting at least

:14:23. > :14:26.seven as a minimum term, not 4.5. So, yes when the sentence was done,

:14:27. > :14:31.I wanted to campaign for stronger sentences. And you did, you handed

:14:32. > :14:36.your petition into Downing Street last October. We have got some

:14:37. > :14:40.pictures of you doing that. James Gilbey's father has done the same

:14:41. > :14:43.today. What would you like to see happen? I would like to see people

:14:44. > :14:49.actually getting together, taking part in the public consultation

:14:50. > :14:54.without people taking part things will never change. So the public

:14:55. > :14:59.consultation is in February, and you say it is about people power? It is.

:15:00. > :15:02.Because alteration finishes on the first of Fabry, so between now and

:15:03. > :15:09.then as many people as possible need to take part. Remind us how they can

:15:10. > :15:15.take part. They need to go online to the government website and search

:15:16. > :15:22.for current consultations, and they will be able to find one regarding

:15:23. > :15:26.sentences for these drivers. We heard Major Gilbey talking about a

:15:27. > :15:31.manslaughter charge. Is that what you want as well? A minimum of a

:15:32. > :15:34.manslaughter charge. To be honest, I think these people should serve a

:15:35. > :15:39.minimum of ten years in jail. And that is ten years, not five, as it

:15:40. > :15:43.currently is at the moment. And also, I would like to be able to say

:15:44. > :15:48.the fact that these people who kill through drugs, drink, mobile phone

:15:49. > :15:54.use, should also lose their licences for life. Lorraine, thank you for

:15:55. > :15:56.joining me. You are welcome, thank you.

:15:57. > :15:58.The BBC has learned of eight possible locations

:15:59. > :16:01.for a parkway station on the High Speed Two rail line.

:16:02. > :16:03.In South Yorkshire they would be Wales, Bramley, Hooton Roberts,

:16:04. > :16:06.Mexborough, Hickleton and Clayton, along with Hemsworth

:16:07. > :16:13.Tom Ingall's been talking to those living at one

:16:14. > :16:23.The new HS2 line is expected to cross it just ahead of the bridge

:16:24. > :16:29.That's why a parkway station might be built here,

:16:30. > :16:33.just a few hundred meters from the village of Clayton

:16:34. > :16:37.People bought these houses in a remote location

:16:38. > :16:39.and they have bought them because they want to live in

:16:40. > :16:43.They want to live in the countryside, they don't

:16:44. > :16:46.want to live beside a 1700 space car park and a train station.

:16:47. > :16:50.What if it promoted economic regeneration in the air?

:16:51. > :16:59.As long as it means people aren't losing their homes to put up

:17:00. > :17:05.Clayton is one of eight sites being considered

:17:06. > :17:07.to serve South Yorkshire, to supplement the proposed Sheffield

:17:08. > :17:15.One of the drivers behind the parkway is to be able to spread

:17:16. > :17:18.the benefits of HS2 as widely as possible across Yorkshire,

:17:19. > :17:21.and to make sure as many people as possible have access to it.

:17:22. > :17:28.This is going to be a very big year for HS2.

:17:29. > :17:32.First of all, they should finally pin down their route options

:17:33. > :17:35.for this part of the world, and doubtless there will be a nip

:17:36. > :17:39.Secondly, and more importantly, within a few months they are likely

:17:40. > :17:42.to stick shovels on the ground to build the first part of the line

:17:43. > :17:47.For people who like or dislike the idea of a parkway

:17:48. > :17:49.station near their village, everything is still to play for.

:17:50. > :17:53.It might be quiet today, but in 20 years' time,

:17:54. > :17:57.this part of the world could look very different indeed.

:17:58. > :18:05.Five men have been found guilty of the sexual abuse

:18:06. > :18:11.Matloob Hussain, Mohammed Sadiq and brothers Basharat,

:18:12. > :18:14.Nasser and Tayab Dad, were convicted after a trial

:18:15. > :18:20.Amjad Ali pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

:18:21. > :18:23.The offences date back to the late 1990s and early 2000s,

:18:24. > :18:25.when the girls were given alcohol and cannabis and intimidated

:18:26. > :18:35.Yorkshire Building Society Group is to close four branches

:18:36. > :18:37.in our region as part of a company-wide restructuring

:18:38. > :18:40.plan.YBS sites in Farsley, Mirfield, Waterloo near Huddersfield and Wyke

:18:41. > :18:42.will close in May, putting 20 jobs at risk.

:18:43. > :18:44.Nationally, 44 other branches will close, putting nearly 10%

:18:45. > :18:54.The company says it hopes to minimise redundancies as it

:18:55. > :19:05.focuses more on its mortgages and savings businesses.

:19:06. > :19:10.That's what happened to 200 or so Bradford City fans who trekked

:19:11. > :19:12.all the way to Oxford for their match last night,

:19:13. > :19:15.only for it to be postponed ten minutes before kick-off

:19:16. > :19:20.We felt let down, not because we had travelled,

:19:21. > :19:23.but felt let down by the powers in football, like the referees that

:19:24. > :19:26.did two pitch inspections, one on Monday and won again at 9.30

:19:27. > :19:29.on Tuesday, and they should have known that the weather was going

:19:30. > :19:34.Sheffield United's game did go ahead.

:19:35. > :19:37.They stay top of League One despite losing 2-0 last night

:19:38. > :19:44.Conor McLaughlin put the away side in front midway

:19:45. > :19:49.And Devante Cole latched on to a weak Ethan Ebanks-Landell

:19:50. > :19:53.header to lob the Sheffield United keeper Simon Moore.

:19:54. > :19:59.The Blades have gained just one point from their last three matches.

:20:00. > :20:01.The comedy-drama Fat Friends became a huge success when it

:20:02. > :20:04.hit our screens more than 15 years ago.

:20:05. > :20:07.The series was written by Kay Mellor and followed eight women struggling

:20:08. > :20:13.to lose weight at a slimming club in Headingley.

:20:14. > :20:15.Well, later this year it's making a comeback as a musical

:20:16. > :20:19.The original songs have been composed by Andrew Lloyd

:20:20. > :20:32.First, here's a reminder of the show.

:20:33. > :20:41.It is just an inch of love. It is not going to go. What if I breathe

:20:42. > :20:48.them? No, I don't think so. Can I have a go? Of course, but if it rips

:20:49. > :20:56.you will have to buy it. Been taking happy pills, have you? Pull your

:20:57. > :21:04.shoulders back, love! Mum, it is not my shoulders that's the problem! It

:21:05. > :21:13.is nearly there. What about a corset?

:21:14. > :21:21.The last time you came in you hinted at a musical. I did not anticipate

:21:22. > :21:25.this one. This is going back to my roots in some respects because it is

:21:26. > :21:31.theatre, live theatre, but a musical, music, is brand-new to me.

:21:32. > :21:35.Does Fat Friends give you everything that you need to explore this new

:21:36. > :21:42.venture? It is a common theme, in a way. Size will stop everyone is on a

:21:43. > :21:50.diet, everyone thinks they have got weight to lose. It is a kind of

:21:51. > :21:55.national obsession, wait. Yes, I think it is universal. It is funny,

:21:56. > :22:00.sad and topical. I think so anyway. I think it is a theme that people

:22:01. > :22:06.will love to visit when they go to the theatre. We love a good musical.

:22:07. > :22:13.We are excited about this. And of course you have the Lloyd Webber

:22:14. > :22:17.music. He is great, Nicholas Lloyd Webber, but his dad came to one of

:22:18. > :22:20.the workshops. He walked in the back, and I knew something had

:22:21. > :22:27.happened and I turned around and there he was. He has got an aura

:22:28. > :22:33.about him. He came up to me and he said, you have got a musical there,

:22:34. > :22:38.I think. That is a compliment! He said now what you should do is go

:22:39. > :22:46.and get Jodie printer. Of course, she is the Andrew Lloyd Webber link.

:22:47. > :22:52.Who else are we expecting, will it be an all Yorkshire cast? I hope so.

:22:53. > :22:56.We will try to persuade Jane McDonald to join us, which would be

:22:57. > :23:02.lovely. She came to the workshop. She has expressed an interest, so

:23:03. > :23:07.fingers crossed. I know why you did it, because Gary Barlow gave you the

:23:08. > :23:13.idea. Actually, we were doing a workshop when that was on. It will

:23:14. > :23:18.be on at the ground. It is fantastic, my hometown, right here.

:23:19. > :23:26.That's where it was set on the telly, it was set in Leeds. So using

:23:27. > :23:29.lead characters, Leeds arena. We know you don't just stick to

:23:30. > :23:34.Yorkshire and you have global appeal. Do you hope this will reach

:23:35. > :23:38.the West End? It will open here, we will do it for five weeks from

:23:39. > :23:41.November to December, and they will take on a national tour, and

:23:42. > :23:48.hopefully take it to the West End. Who knows after that? We will follow

:23:49. > :23:56.your progress with the casting. Tickets are on sale now. If you book

:23:57. > :23:59.now, you will get good seats. We have got the message!

:24:00. > :24:09.Let's move on to the weather. Tomorrow looks set to be a very cold

:24:10. > :24:22.day. Some beautiful pictures have been sent in. Absolutely stunning.

:24:23. > :24:29.Keep those pictures coming in. Tomorrow looks pretty depressing,

:24:30. > :24:36.overcast with air coming up from the continent. Grey skies, if you like

:24:37. > :24:39.snow flurries. Eventually by the weekend, we will get the Atlantic

:24:40. > :24:45.back, so temperatures returning to near normal. The low cloud and

:24:46. > :24:49.really cold air is currently across Lincolnshire. We are in the clear

:24:50. > :24:53.right now, but this cloud will move northwards over the next few hours,

:24:54. > :24:56.and then it turned very grey with mist and fog at lower levels, and

:24:57. > :25:01.then over the tops of the Pennines there could be a dusting of snow in

:25:02. > :25:14.some places. The odd spot of drizzle, Frost and ice. 28

:25:15. > :25:19.Fahrenheit. The sun will rise in the morning: A very cold, raw day, with

:25:20. > :25:25.a significant wind-chill Tamara. Mist and low cloud. There will be

:25:26. > :25:30.one or two snowflakes, a bit of drizzle in places, but you will not

:25:31. > :25:36.see the sun so do wrap up warm. Maximum temperatures tomorrow, just

:25:37. > :25:44.one Celsius in Scarborough. As you can see from this, some places may

:25:45. > :25:51.not get above freezing. Combine the wind and it will feel more like

:25:52. > :25:54.minus five. Another grey day on Friday, really cold at first,

:25:55. > :25:58.bad-tempered is recovering to four or 5 degrees. Patchy rain on

:25:59. > :26:01.Saturday. Sunday looks lovely day with a ridge of high pressure, so

:26:02. > :26:11.most places will be with some sunshine. That is the forecast.

:26:12. > :26:36.Have a good night. RADIO: 'The UK has voted to leave

:26:37. > :26:45.the European Union by 52% to 48. 'Ukip leader Nigel Farage celebrated

:26:46. > :26:49.the result, declaring that 'dawn was breaking on an

:26:50. > :26:55.independent nation.' Ugh! 'is expected to resign

:26:56. > :26:58.later this morning.'
