:01:09. > :01:10.A local charity which usually helps girls in Africa

:01:11. > :01:12.is now being asked to work with teenagers in Leeds.

:01:13. > :01:15.Abi Jaiyeola has been speaking to one girl,

:01:16. > :01:20.who we're calling Sophie, about the problems she's had.

:01:21. > :01:23.It's something most of us probably take for granted, being able to

:01:24. > :01:28.Life is not as simple for some young girls

:01:29. > :01:37.My step mother had a family of five to feed.

:01:38. > :01:41.It was quite difficult to be able to pay for

:01:42. > :01:46.This meant Sophie skipped school for a week

:01:47. > :01:53.I felt a lot like let down and I was not achieving

:01:54. > :01:56.the right grades and not attending school enough.

:01:57. > :02:03.These reusable sanitary towels are made by

:02:04. > :02:06.a Leeds charity and usually sent to teenage girls in Kenya.

:02:19. > :02:21.Sophie's school approached them for help after

:02:22. > :02:24.There will be lots of girls suffering

:02:25. > :02:29.We need to bring that to the forefront and talk to teachers,

:02:30. > :02:33.These girls are missing education, so they will not

:02:34. > :02:36.The cost of tampons and towels varies.

:02:37. > :02:39.A supermarket own brand might be less than a pound.

:02:40. > :02:40.A branded product up to three times more.

:02:41. > :02:53.University campus, sanitary products are sold at cost price.

:02:54. > :03:00.We do not think that students or anyone

:03:01. > :03:02.should be having to pay more than is strictly

:03:03. > :03:03.necessary for a product that is essential.

:03:04. > :03:06.We are aware that a lot of students do not

:03:07. > :03:09.have that much money and we want a to make sure

:03:10. > :03:10.that students never have to

:03:11. > :03:12.choose between something like food and sanitary products.

:03:13. > :03:14.Campaigners in Leeds hope their work will help

:03:15. > :03:17.keep more girls in the classroom for every day of the month.

:03:18. > :03:20.there were no great surprises as the Chancellor Philip Hammond

:03:21. > :03:23.delivered his first budget today - but will it make us

:03:24. > :03:31.Fuel duty has been frozen for the seventh year in a row.

:03:32. > :03:34.But a packet of 20 cigarettes now costs 35p more than

:03:35. > :03:37.And from Monday you'll be paying extra for your alcohol.

:03:38. > :03:39.And we heard that there will be ?90 million

:03:40. > :03:42.of transport spending for the north - but we wont

:03:43. > :03:46.from the Radio Four programme Moneybox.

:03:47. > :03:48.He'll be answering your questions about how

:03:49. > :03:52.First, Danni Hewson on how changes to business rates will affect

:03:53. > :04:04.keeping control of the finer details is a necessity for every successful

:04:05. > :04:08.business. It is why this year's re-evaluation of business rates has

:04:09. > :04:15.caused controversy. There have been winners and losers. This business

:04:16. > :04:20.have been able to expand and take an have been able to expand and take an

:04:21. > :04:24.apprentice in the salon which has been fantastic. I want to grow my

:04:25. > :04:28.business and that is a good way to do that and I have enjoyed training

:04:29. > :04:33.as well. Without the rate relief, what would it mean to your business?

:04:34. > :04:38.The money for training would have to come for somewhere. This travel

:04:39. > :04:43.agent is facing a hike of ?9,000 a year, money that could support if

:04:44. > :04:47.part-time member of staff. It is a massive jump, one faced by many

:04:48. > :04:55.businesses, and won the Chancellor was under pressure to deal with

:04:56. > :05:00.today. A ?300 million fund to give relief to target individual hard

:05:01. > :05:03.cases in their local areas. No guarantees this business will

:05:04. > :05:09.qualify for help, but a glimmer of hope. It hopefully will come our

:05:10. > :05:14.way. I am happy that the Government did take the measure to help us, to

:05:15. > :05:18.understand what small businesses need. Now it is down to the council

:05:19. > :05:23.to see what they can deliver for us. If you are not a business owner and

:05:24. > :05:29.one how business rates affect you, all have of money collected goes to

:05:30. > :05:34.the local authority. That cash is used to help fund services as

:05:35. > :05:39.protection. By 2020, business rates protection. By 2020, business rates

:05:40. > :05:44.and council tax will provide the lion share of council funding and

:05:45. > :05:50.some think that will create tension. 80% of everything Leeds council

:05:51. > :05:55.does... That is a vital service and we know the population is changing

:05:56. > :05:59.and it went to meet them, but businesses... Make businesses more

:06:00. > :06:01.successful, we need a better environment and better

:06:02. > :06:04.infrastructure and business rates will not be funding that. The

:06:05. > :06:08.Government has promised to take another look at business rates but

:06:09. > :06:11.it is clear there are troubled waters ahead. -- choppy waters.

:06:12. > :06:13.So how will today's budget affect you and your family?

:06:14. > :06:16.Paul Lewis from Radio Four's Money Box programme is with us live

:06:17. > :06:18.to fill us in on some of the details.

:06:19. > :06:27.I wonder if his nose rates are an unfair tax on the high Street

:06:28. > :06:31.eyes-mac what do you think? Three shops on the high street help meet

:06:32. > :06:34.that and it is not unreasonable because they are competing now with

:06:35. > :06:39.people who are not on the high street, people on the Internet or

:06:40. > :06:43.maybe some of the Internet sales companies that have warehouses out

:06:44. > :06:48.in the countryside, are going to go down rather than art generally. The

:06:49. > :06:53.examples you gave me the point clearly, it is a random tax. Some

:06:54. > :06:59.businesses will see a rise and others a fall. The Chancellor did

:07:00. > :07:06.?50 a month. There was the extra ?50 a month. There was the extra

:07:07. > :07:07.money for councils and a special ?1000 a year for pubs, because they

:07:08. > :07:12.pay it differently. It is based on pay it differently. It is based on

:07:13. > :07:18.their turnover. Is accessible pop pays a higher rate than an

:07:19. > :07:26.unsuccessful pub. -- a successful pulp. We have had questions sent in.

:07:27. > :07:32.Faith says what does the announcement mean for workers of

:07:33. > :07:38.Yorkshire? It is going to mean higher tax. Higher national insurer

:07:39. > :07:44.and its contribution to pensions. Chancellor said that from 2018,

:07:45. > :07:50.self-employed people, who now pay 9% of the income, a national insurance.

:07:51. > :07:55.That will go up to 10% and then 11% in the next year and my suspicion is

:07:56. > :08:01.it will go up to 12%. That brings them in line with employees, people

:08:02. > :08:06.who work for an employer, they are charged 12% national insurance and

:08:07. > :08:11.get the game as self-employed people. He is putting up

:08:12. > :08:15.self-employed tax. That is going to make, for self-employed people, the

:08:16. > :08:22.going to spend more money. It is going to cost them a maximum of ?380

:08:23. > :08:27.a year and double that from 2019. It is going to hit some, particularly

:08:28. > :08:30.better paid or more profitable self-employed people, quite hard. I

:08:31. > :08:39.have worked on the assumption that you every single answer. Jasper from

:08:40. > :08:43.Leeds wants to know about that... What does it mean for us here in

:08:44. > :08:48.your? I am going to disappoint you now, I do not know. I think one of

:08:49. > :08:52.the problems that Yorkshire faces and many pirates face, is getting to

:08:53. > :09:01.work and having cheap, reliable public transport. -- many areas

:09:02. > :09:06.face. More money for transport can only mean more help for companies

:09:07. > :09:12.that want to run bus services offered to build lead in the local

:09:13. > :09:21.committee. -- profitably. I will look at up for our question and

:09:22. > :09:25.answers section later. 90 million is not a lot of money throughout

:09:26. > :09:35.England. Paul, we have time to squeeze in this question... Does it

:09:36. > :09:39.mean no change for him? If you do not drink, you do not pay the higher

:09:40. > :09:48.price. If you do not smoke, you do not pay the higher price. If you

:09:49. > :09:55.Drive a car, tax will be going up from April by ?5 or ?10. Bigger cars

:09:56. > :10:00.might be as much as ?20 more from April. Motorists will feel it. Fuel

:10:01. > :10:12.duty is frozen for now but prices were high by few have gone up a lot

:10:13. > :10:14.recently. Paul, thank you. -- prices where I live.

:10:15. > :10:17.And I'll be back with Paul live on Facebook just after seven.

:10:18. > :10:19.Like our page, search for BBC Look North Yorkshire

:10:20. > :10:22.We'll put your questions to Paul live.

:10:29. > :10:32.All last night's football involving our sides.

:10:33. > :10:34.Including another great result for Huddersfield Town as they aim

:10:35. > :10:42.Dog walkers are being warned to keep their pets on a lead

:10:43. > :10:45.after a growing number of attacks on Sheep in Yorkshire.

:10:46. > :10:47.New figures released by the NFU insurance group show

:10:48. > :10:51.the cost of dog attacks on livestock rose by 30% last year.

:10:52. > :10:53.Emma Glasbey has been hearing the story of one farmer

:10:54. > :11:13.Lambing season is in full swing and it is another

:11:14. > :11:17.For the farmer, that means very little sleep and no

:11:18. > :11:20.chance for getting through a TV interview without a new arrival

:11:21. > :11:30.This lambing season has been filled with

:11:31. > :11:33.stress and upset after a dog got into the field before Christmas and

:11:34. > :11:38.This attack must've been going on for

:11:39. > :11:41.half an hour because the sheep were scattered all over the field.

:11:42. > :11:47.It did not have a collar on and there was

:11:48. > :11:57.As a last resort, farmers have the right to shoot dogs

:11:58. > :12:00.For Andrew, the upset was far from over.

:12:01. > :12:07.We got death threats through the phone.

:12:08. > :12:10.They put our name, address, telephone number all on Facebook or

:12:11. > :12:14.It got that bad that we had to ring the

:12:15. > :12:22.A threatening phone call was recorded, but are too

:12:23. > :12:27.There was yet more heartache for Andrew.

:12:28. > :12:32.Three weeks after the dog attacks, scans

:12:33. > :12:38.showed many of the ewes were carrying dead lambs.

:12:39. > :12:47.This year there has been another dog attack?

:12:48. > :12:49.It can't put weight on that back leg fully.

:12:50. > :12:52.It must be really distressing to see them in a lot of

:13:01. > :13:03.year and it is urging people to keep their pets under control.

:13:04. > :13:08.Dog walkers in Leeds today told me they

:13:09. > :13:20.The animals cost a lot of money and it is

:13:21. > :13:24.The farmer has a right to keep his animals on land

:13:25. > :13:36.The lambing season is nearly over and we hope next year will be

:13:37. > :13:38.calmer. Let's get some news in brief now.

:13:39. > :13:41.Many women from Yorkshire were among thousands of protesters in London

:13:42. > :13:44.today highlighting concerns over changes to the state pension scheme.

:13:45. > :13:46.They want the Government to implement fairer arrangements

:13:47. > :13:49.for women born in the 1950s who have had up to six years added

:13:50. > :13:51.to their pension age with little notice.

:13:52. > :13:54.The Department for Work and Pensions says the decision is a long-overdue

:13:55. > :14:02.More and more women are becoming aware of it

:14:03. > :14:04.because they were not aware of it

:14:05. > :14:07.and they are joining the group and we are going to fight

:14:08. > :14:12.My husband has also missed out on my pension on the money

:14:13. > :14:15.It has affected everybody, our children and grandchildren,

:14:16. > :14:18.because we can't look after them because we have to go to work -

:15:24. > :15:27.will get a new name - and a new focus.

:15:28. > :15:29.In future it will showcase science, technology and engineering.

:15:30. > :15:31.Visitor numbers have been falling steadily

:15:32. > :15:35.in the last ten years - so can a new name and new exhibits

:15:36. > :15:45.This was the National Media Museum in the heart of Bradford.

:15:46. > :15:48.Right now, it is a museum without a name.

:15:49. > :15:51.It is in the process of being renamed and

:15:52. > :15:59.The number of visitors has more than halved

:16:00. > :16:10.over the past ten years from

:16:11. > :16:13.737,000 ten years ago to just over 300,000 over the last ten months.

:16:14. > :16:15.Will these new changes stop the decline?

:16:16. > :16:21.It's not exciting to go there and if they are rebranding

:16:22. > :16:24.it then maybe something will happen with it.

:16:25. > :16:28.The name is not the issue, if with the name will come a complete

:16:29. > :16:30.rebrand and a complete new approach and create opportunities for people

:16:31. > :16:34.It is a huge thing and I hope that they have

:16:35. > :16:39.thought long and hard about it because people invest money, time,

:16:40. > :16:42.blood, sweat and tears into establishing a brand and make it

:16:43. > :16:49.It is a hard decision to make and I hope it does not have

:16:50. > :16:51.serious consequences, I hope it is positive.

:16:52. > :16:58.It has already moved thousands of artefacts to London and

:17:01. > :17:03.It says its new focus is science and technology.

:17:04. > :17:06.I think that, as a photographer, and the

:17:23. > :17:24.in response to the rise in

:17:25. > :17:36.But changing the name yet again has left many perplexed.

:17:37. > :17:38.The Post Office change their name and then changed

:17:39. > :17:46.it back again, didn't they, because people still

:17:47. > :17:48.it the the Post Office despite the change of name.

:17:49. > :17:51.Why do they change it just for the sake of change?

:17:52. > :17:55.For months, trustees have been pondering a new

:17:56. > :17:57.name for the museum in keeping with its new focus.

:17:58. > :18:00.Like it or not, come this time tomorrow, all will be

:18:01. > :18:11.Let's move on to the sport. We are all big nights now as we approach

:18:12. > :18:15.the end of the season. I imagine you weren't noisy when the Huddersfield

:18:16. > :18:21.goal went in. I am groggy today. It was not a great game but it was

:18:22. > :18:27.great to see everybody happy. The most important thing is the result

:18:28. > :18:32.itself. They were the only winner last night.

:18:33. > :18:34.It was a tight match against aggressive Aston Villa,

:18:35. > :18:37.who managed to limit chances on goal, and even came

:18:38. > :18:40.Lansbury's volley has left a right scratch

:18:41. > :18:44.The decisive moment came in the second half.

:18:45. > :18:53.A short corner to captain Tommy Smith, and he did the rest.

:18:54. > :18:57.1-0 to Town - and that's how it stayed.

:18:58. > :18:59.Huddersfield's 21st win of the Championship season

:19:00. > :19:03.stregthens their position in third place.

:19:04. > :19:06.Sheffield Wednesday were hoping for something

:19:07. > :19:10.If anyone's going to knock one of our three Yorkshire clubs out

:19:11. > :19:12.of the playoff places, it'll probably be Fulham.

:19:13. > :19:14.So their match against Leeds had added significance.

:19:15. > :19:23.Fullham's Tim Ream won't want to see this again, as his sliced attempted

:19:24. > :19:31.If goal-line technology had been in place, there might have been

:19:32. > :19:38.In injury time, Tom Kearney, released by Leeds as a

:19:39. > :19:41.teenager, came back to haunt his own club as this beautiful curling

:19:42. > :19:44.strike ensured the points were shared.

:19:45. > :19:46.Sheffield Wednesday's Ross Wallace tried his luck from 30

:19:47. > :19:52.Jackson Irvine volleyed home for the visitors

:19:53. > :20:05.Wednesday stay five points clear of Fulham,

:20:06. > :20:09.Huddersfield fans might be thinking about avoiding the play-offs

:20:10. > :20:18.Rotherham were beaten two nil by Brighton.

:20:19. > :20:20.Sheffield United and Chesterfield were also chasing vital

:20:21. > :20:23.The Blades and Spireites are neighbours, but the distance

:20:24. > :20:25.between them I'm afraid, feels a long way now,

:20:26. > :20:28.and neither team look as if they'll be playing in League One next

:20:29. > :20:34.season, for entirely different reasons.

:20:35. > :20:45.Top of the table United came back with a comeback that points to

:20:46. > :20:52.promotion. Billy Sharp's 25th goal of the season brought them back to

:20:53. > :20:59.one of in the first-half. It was made to - one blades. The penalty

:21:00. > :21:05.made it 3-1. There was no denying the 21st victory from 36 matches.

:21:06. > :21:09.The 11 point cushion they have over third place looks very comfortable

:21:10. > :21:13.now. We believe we can do it but there are ten games to go. Winning

:21:14. > :21:17.tonight is good because we do not have a game on Saturday but

:21:18. > :21:22.everybody else does. Now we have done our job and will slay the other

:21:23. > :21:31.teams will help us out a little bit. Chesterfield were deleted. 1- mil

:21:32. > :21:32.last night. The two upcoming home games need to produced

:21:33. > :21:39.quick. Chesterfield in trouble but quick. Chesterfield in trouble but

:21:40. > :21:43.for everyone else it is going to be like this every week, nobody else

:21:44. > :21:45.knows. The championship is the most exciting.

:21:46. > :21:51.Finally tonight, you might think a canal is a gentle way to travel.

:21:52. > :21:54.Well, that depends on whether or not you have to pull your own boat!

:21:55. > :21:56.On the Chesterfield Canal today new lock gates
