:00:00. > :00:00.Well I'm not so sure we'll see a lot of blue sky like this, shot taken at

:00:00. > :00:09.Roundhay Park. But join me for the very latest forecast.

:00:10. > :00:11.In just over seven weeks' time, we'll go to the polls

:00:12. > :00:17.Once again, Yorkshire is expected to be a key battle ground for votes.

:00:18. > :00:21.The Prime Minister says she wants to strengthen her position ahead

:00:22. > :00:23.of talks about Britain leaving the European Union.

:00:24. > :00:26.Parliament still has to approve the plan,

:00:27. > :00:30.which has been welcomed by opposition parties.

:00:31. > :00:34.In a moment, we'll get reaction live from Morley and Sheffield Hallam -

:00:35. > :00:38.But first, our data journalist David Rhodes looks at the state

:00:39. > :00:51.Politically we can break our region down into three distinct blocks. In

:00:52. > :00:57.North Yorkshire, the Conservatives are dominant holding seven out of

:00:58. > :01:05.the eight seats. Labours on the seat is in. The Liberal Democrats may

:01:06. > :01:11.look to target Harrogate as well. A constituency that the Lib Dems have

:01:12. > :01:13.held in the past. Now, let's move to South Yorkshire and the North

:01:14. > :01:19.Midlands. This is a Labour heartland. Out of 18 seats, Labour

:01:20. > :01:27.holds 17, while Nick Clegg holds one. For the Liberal Democrats, in

:01:28. > :01:36.Sheffield-Hallam. However, UK came second in 2017. Let's not forget the

:01:37. > :01:39.green part they came second in Sheffield Central last time and the

:01:40. > :01:44.former leader of the Greens, Natalie Bennett, has a ready said she will

:01:45. > :01:49.be contesting this seat. But, it is in West Yorkshire where we find the

:01:50. > :01:53.key political battle grounds. Here there are 22 seats, 14 held by

:01:54. > :01:58.Labour, seven by the Conservatives and there is one Lib Dem seat. Last

:01:59. > :02:04.time in Bradford East, Dewsbury and Morley and outward all the seats

:02:05. > :02:11.changed hands between the main party. One of the most high-profile

:02:12. > :02:20.was when Labour Shadow Chancellor Ed balls lost his seat. Nine of the

:02:21. > :02:23.most contested seats in West Yorkshire. And with only seven weeks

:02:24. > :02:27.until Yorkshire to the polls, this is where we should see the main

:02:28. > :02:31.political parties campaign the artist. The seat could, potentially,

:02:32. > :02:33.have the biggest impact on the national result.

:02:34. > :02:36.As David mentioned, Morley and Outwood made national headlines

:02:37. > :02:38.two years ago when Ed Balls lost his seat by just

:02:39. > :02:41.It's the closest marginal in our region.

:02:42. > :02:52.BBC Radio Leeds, Theresa May has called a snap General Election

:02:53. > :02:57.Well it's going to be a very interesting election campaign in

:02:58. > :03:03.this town. The Conservatives hold this seat by just 422 votes, the

:03:04. > :03:07.smallest majority in Yorkshire. Not only that, but the sitting MP,

:03:08. > :03:11.Andrea Jenkins, will be hitting the campaign trail just three weeks

:03:12. > :03:15.after giving birth to her baby son. Who will be challenging her for the

:03:16. > :03:21.Labour Party? Well that is yet to be confirmed. What do the voters think

:03:22. > :03:22.about the prospect of heading back to the polls for another general

:03:23. > :03:32.election. ? It was the breaking news

:03:33. > :03:34.people in Morley had I would never have imagined

:03:35. > :03:39.it to be coming so I would never have imagined it

:03:40. > :03:41.to be coming so soon. I thought we just got

:03:42. > :03:48.a new leader, didn't we? As businesses in the town

:03:49. > :03:50.reopened after the bank holiday, the snap general election

:03:51. > :03:53.soon became the talking point. Yes, I'm pleased she's called

:03:54. > :03:55.for one, definitely. She needed a mandate,

:03:56. > :03:57.because she hadn't I hope Ed Balls doesn't

:03:58. > :04:12.come dancing back, like. Ed Balls watzed to

:04:13. > :04:14.fame on Strictly Come Dancing after losing

:04:15. > :04:15.the There is then no word

:04:16. > :04:18.from him today. Andrea Marie Jenkins is duly

:04:19. > :04:21.elected as the conservative Andrea Jenkins won the seat from

:04:22. > :04:25.the conservatives by just 422 votes. weeks ago, but today

:04:26. > :04:28.confirmed she will be Talking to the voters

:04:29. > :04:32.in Morley today, it was about how a general election

:04:33. > :04:38.might affect Brexit. I think it will make

:04:39. > :04:40.us vulnerable, in my But, there again, it

:04:41. > :04:43.could strengthen us. I think she's doing

:04:44. > :04:47.well, and with the Brexit thing I think everyone wanted

:04:48. > :04:50.to go well and I don't know, Scotland are trying

:04:51. > :04:52.to do their own thing The politicians will no doubt soon

:04:53. > :04:57.arrived here to begin a It's likely to be a busy seven

:04:58. > :05:06.weeks for this town. Let's get some

:05:07. > :05:08.political reaction now. Harry is at Westminster -

:05:09. > :05:16.what's the mood like there? This Harry, what is the atmosphere

:05:17. > :05:27.like a because politics is boring. This is

:05:28. > :05:34.the place to be whenever you get a political statement as enormous as

:05:35. > :05:40.today's's we've got sky, ice ITN, broadcasters from all over the

:05:41. > :05:46.place. Politicians and been coming up and down here throughout the

:05:47. > :05:57.afternoon. Three politicians have passed our tent. Here is great no

:05:58. > :06:05.hole from the north-west. Lib Dem. Let review Greg. -- let me start

:06:06. > :06:11.with you Greg. This is Machiavellian, that some people are

:06:12. > :06:14.saying Stewart were the thing. The Prime Minister has been clear, she

:06:15. > :06:19.wants to be sure that she goes into these negotiations with a strong

:06:20. > :06:22.hand. What she has said, is that the majority of quite small here. We

:06:23. > :06:27.need someone with strong leadership, so let's let the people decide who

:06:28. > :06:33.they want that in four eyes when the negotiation happens. Richard, you

:06:34. > :06:38.have your say now? David Cameron said he wouldn't stand down, he did.

:06:39. > :06:41.Theresa May said she wouldn't hold a general election before development

:06:42. > :06:50.20, she did. And that is a sign of Tory chaos. This is a sign for us to

:06:51. > :06:54.send a message from our area to Westminster that they are being

:06:55. > :06:58.treated by this government and that Labour can offer a better future for

:06:59. > :07:05.the majority are low earners and the learners in our area. What about the

:07:06. > :07:08.Lib Dems? I think to reason they said several times that there would

:07:09. > :07:13.not be a snap general election that she wanted and that she wanted to

:07:14. > :07:17.bring the country together. She is not acting in the interest of the

:07:18. > :07:20.country, she is acting in the interest of the Conservative Party.

:07:21. > :07:25.She is not acting like the unifying leader that she said she was. She is

:07:26. > :07:33.damaging this country and taking us into and necessarily hard bread. --

:07:34. > :07:40.Brexit. You MPs care very much about your constituents, will this be

:07:41. > :07:48.about one thing? The leadership, Brexit, or can we discussed social

:07:49. > :07:52.care. Well, I very much hope so, I mean of course Brexit is going to be

:07:53. > :07:58.a major part of this election but we and we have serious negotiations to

:07:59. > :08:01.happen but this is also about election electing a government of

:08:02. > :08:09.the next five years bottles and also growing the economy plus we've got

:08:10. > :08:15.to talk about other issues like the social care that you mention what

:08:16. > :08:23.about the connecting with leadership issues that you have Richard. How

:08:24. > :08:28.much of other containers that? Will I think when these people look at

:08:29. > :08:33.Labour's policies like the ?10 in our minimum wage, free school meals

:08:34. > :08:43.for primary school pupils, maternity pay, pretending pay, sick pay, for a

:08:44. > :08:50.when they look of those, I think that Labour is not going to start

:08:51. > :08:57.turning our backs on austerity and cut -- is going to start training

:08:58. > :09:04.our backs on in touch. OK, Greg Mulholland Georgio. What people are

:09:05. > :09:07.calling out for is a real opposition, but Labour are not

:09:08. > :09:12.providing. The Liberal Democrats are now being the real Democrat --

:09:13. > :09:17.opposition to this hard Brexit Conservative government. There are

:09:18. > :09:22.delighted that people like Vince Cable outstanding for us again.

:09:23. > :09:26.People know that voting for the Liberal Democrats in selection is a

:09:27. > :09:30.chance to change the course of the country and to send a very clear

:09:31. > :09:35.message to Theresa May and divisive government. Thank you Gavin

:09:36. > :09:38.gentleman I can't wait, can you. Activity.

:09:39. > :09:41.Well, Ukip came second in more than half of

:09:42. > :09:45.The party is confident it can be successful this time around.

:09:46. > :09:47.We are the only party that has been successful

:09:48. > :09:49.in that they set out to

:09:50. > :09:54.do, and that was to get a referendum, referendum David Cameron

:09:55. > :09:57.didn't want, a referendum to Brexit and to leave the European Union.

:09:58. > :09:59.That would we did and we achieved that.

:10:00. > :10:02.And we achieved that with not one seat in the House of Commons.

:10:03. > :10:06.And we will carry on now, we will carry on and fight for the British

:10:07. > :10:09.working man and woman and I'm quite sure that we will win seats for

:10:10. > :10:13.Let's speak now to our political reporter James Vincent,

:10:14. > :10:15.who is in Nick Clegg's Sheffield Hallam constituency.

:10:16. > :10:18.James - this was a surprise to many people; do you think another

:10:19. > :10:30.election will go down well with voters?

:10:31. > :10:38.If that be fascinating to see what people think of another election.

:10:39. > :10:44.Nobody saw this coming. If I had I had a shave. It's probably more easy

:10:45. > :10:54.to explain because the Conservatives are so far ahead in the polls that

:10:55. > :10:56.they might not be so far edge in 20 20. Never the knows how we will feel

:10:57. > :11:03.about the Conservatives in three years' time. They want to make a

:11:04. > :11:08.while they can, in the sunshine, in June. But how will people feel about

:11:09. > :11:19.another election? Three in three years including the EU referendum.

:11:20. > :11:27.There's nothing much going on the day after a bank holiday... Is

:11:28. > :11:36.there? So, let's rinse and Easter holidays. And election in June but

:11:37. > :11:44.the think of that? I think you need to have any need to happen. I'm not

:11:45. > :11:52.completely shot. . Will you enjoy election? I can she should have

:11:53. > :11:56.stayed after Brexit, now she's just doing it her own reasons. She's just

:11:57. > :12:02.doing it for her and how much of a majority she can get. Would have a

:12:03. > :12:14.dog thing? -- what does the dog thing. What do you think? Anything

:12:15. > :12:22.to stop that the malaise that skanky happening. -- the malaise that been

:12:23. > :12:26.happening. So, some strong views there. I wonder if people would get

:12:27. > :12:35.election to keep with seven weeks ago. Can we expect Georgia to be

:12:36. > :12:42.centre stage again? -- cameo in Yorkshire to be centre stage again?

:12:43. > :12:47.Nick Clegg was the only try minister and this is his constituency in

:12:48. > :12:51.Sheffield-Hallam. The big news is that Nick Clegg is meeting his party

:12:52. > :12:55.in the next 24 hours. That could be him saying I'm on board or him

:12:56. > :13:00.saying I'm off, I've had enough, maybe some of can do this job. If we

:13:01. > :13:05.don't have the personalities, we do have the constituencies. Such as

:13:06. > :13:15.merrily for example. -- Morley for example. I'm thinking maybe you're

:13:16. > :13:20.quite field,. If we don't have the personalities will have the places.

:13:21. > :13:26.So, not all MPs have declared whether they will stand or not, but

:13:27. > :13:35.who have? It been one of those days where we been phoning MPs and their

:13:36. > :13:39.offices open telling us. Hilary Benn has confirmed he is standing, he is

:13:40. > :13:44.not the best friends Jeremy Corbyn. We've not from Ed Miliband or it

:13:45. > :13:48.Nick Clegg Tom there is some thinking to be done by our MPs. If

:13:49. > :13:54.it's not been hectic trading today, it's going to be a hectic seven

:13:55. > :14:00.weeks rollover is coming. You'd better trim your beard, it's going

:14:01. > :14:02.to be busy times for you. Will be back at ten firm awful eight o'clock

:14:03. > :14:06.from more. Police have issued a warning to drug

:14:07. > :14:09.users in South and West Yorkshire to use caution following six deaths

:14:10. > :14:11.over the Easter weekend. Detectives haven't officially

:14:12. > :14:13.linked the deaths - but say they are considering

:14:14. > :14:15.whether a strong or contaminated Our Health Correspondent

:14:16. > :14:18.Jamie Coulson reports. Highly addictive

:14:19. > :14:20.and highly dangerous. For the those who are children

:14:21. > :14:27.heroine, the prospect of withdrawal For the those who are heroine,

:14:28. > :14:29.the prospect of withdrawal can outweigh the risk

:14:30. > :14:33.of a potentially bad Junior, who did not

:14:34. > :14:36.want to be identified, I do her in and crack

:14:37. > :14:39.cocaine together. Some days you don't really

:14:40. > :14:43.want to exist, so I'm not I do heroin and crack

:14:44. > :14:44.cocaine together. Some days you don't really

:14:45. > :14:47.want to exist, so I'm not There have been six deaths

:14:48. > :14:51.across south and west Yorkshire over the Easter weekend which police

:14:52. > :14:53.believe are related to class a drugs, and while those deaths

:14:54. > :14:56.haven't been officially linked, Police in both forces have urged

:14:57. > :14:59.drug users to use caution. Four people died in

:15:00. > :15:07.the Barnsley area on Friday. Police are awaiting test results,

:15:08. > :15:09.but believe the deaths There were two more deaths in

:15:10. > :15:34.West Yorkshire, the following day. If 36-year-old man was found in

:15:35. > :15:39.Leeds while a 27-year-old man died in Normanton.

:15:40. > :15:41.Drug users often have their own medical history which could

:15:42. > :15:44.contribute to their sad death but there is also the possibility

:15:45. > :15:46.of unusual strong drug supply in the market and also

:15:47. > :15:49.potentially something that's been added to the drugs to cut it

:15:50. > :16:03.The National crime agency has also issued a warning about the use of a

:16:04. > :16:07.synthetic drug called street heroin that they may no direct link to the

:16:08. > :16:08.deaths in Yorkshire. Two people arrested

:16:09. > :16:10.in South Yorkshire on suspicion of supplying drugs have been

:16:11. > :16:12.released under investigation, while four people arrested

:16:13. > :16:14.in West Yorkshire have been released Despite the warnings,

:16:15. > :16:17.Junior says he has little choice but to carry on,

:16:18. > :16:20.feeding an addiction he describes Two teenagers are being held

:16:21. > :16:31.on suspicion of murder in Doncaster. A 65-year-old man died in hospital

:16:32. > :16:33.after being found collapsed The woman being held is 18 years

:16:34. > :16:39.old and the boy is 17. Detectives say it's too early to say

:16:40. > :16:41.exactly what happened and their investigations

:16:42. > :16:43.are continuing. Detectives searching for a missing

:16:44. > :16:45.teenage girl in Huddersfield have released a picture of a man

:16:46. > :16:48.they want to speak to. It's thought 14-year-old

:16:49. > :16:50.Alecia Moran may have gone with him Alecia was last seen at home

:16:51. > :17:01.on Sunday , wearing a black Police say they're "extremely

:17:02. > :17:04.concerned" for her welfare. Controversial plans to build

:17:05. > :17:07.a new school on a former land fill site in Sheffield have been given

:17:08. > :17:10.the go ahead by councillors. The council says the threestorey

:17:11. > :17:13.building is needed in Millhouses because demand for school places

:17:14. > :17:15.in south west Sheffield is growing. Objectors say building on landfill

:17:16. > :17:18.could be dangerous and that local roads would struggle to cope

:17:19. > :17:22.with increased traffic. Tell you what, it can be tough

:17:23. > :17:25.being a football fan in the championship took another

:17:26. > :17:39.twist yesterday with Leeds United Yes the race for the play off places

:17:40. > :17:43.in the championship took another twist yesterday with Leeds United

:17:44. > :17:46.dropping out of the playoff places. Leeds United picked a bad time

:17:47. > :17:49.to have one of the worst 45 They were battered in the first half

:17:50. > :17:53.at home to Wolves and were fortunate They were better after the break,

:17:54. > :17:57.but this time, unlike at Newcastle, there was not to be

:17:58. > :17:59.a last-minute equaliser. It was one of the worst performances

:18:00. > :18:07.I've seen for a long time. Extremely disappointing,

:18:08. > :18:08.to be honest with you. I think we've dropped down

:18:09. > :18:11.to seventh now and all season we've Are you worried about

:18:12. > :18:16.the play-offs now? No, I think we'll be

:18:17. > :18:19.in the play-offs and I think we've got a good good chance

:18:20. > :18:25.of getting to final. We had the mentality for so long

:18:26. > :18:28.where we've been in the play-offs quite comfortably in and we've kind

:18:29. > :18:30.of been in a protective mode and try to stay

:18:31. > :18:33.in there and stay in there, and now we have to try

:18:34. > :18:36.and change our mentality to be Leeds's loss was Sheffield

:18:37. > :18:39.Wednesday's gain. They moved up to fifth

:18:40. > :18:42.with a 2-1 win at QPR. After the game, Carlos Carvalhal

:18:43. > :18:44.said the mentality of this They certainly seem to be running

:18:45. > :18:48.hot at just the right time. That's four wins on the

:18:49. > :18:50.bounce for the Owls. Huddersfield Town could have closed

:18:51. > :18:52.the gap on Newcastle, They took the lead at Derby

:18:53. > :18:56.and their performance really deserved all three points,

:18:57. > :18:58.but a wicked deflection saw them So what are the scores on the doors

:18:59. > :19:04.after that little lot? Huddersfield are down to fourth

:19:05. > :19:06.Wednesday up to fifth, Leeds out of the play-off places,

:19:07. > :19:09.but expect plenty more twists and turns before it's

:19:10. > :19:11.all done and dusted. Sheffield United went

:19:12. > :19:16.into their game against Bradford promoted and as champions,

:19:17. > :19:18.so you might think Not a bit of it - a ruthless first

:19:19. > :19:23.half saw them win it 3-0. Cue the obligatory pitch invasion

:19:24. > :19:26.and champagne spraying. The Blades final target the season

:19:27. > :19:31.to see if they can reach 100 points. Chesterfield finally

:19:32. > :19:33.succumbed to the drop. They were well beaten by Scunthorpe

:19:34. > :19:35.- the gulf between the top and the bottom of League One

:19:36. > :19:57.all too clear. Too unhappy men in the studio. Two

:19:58. > :20:04.unhappy men. I'm not sure about Leeds, but I think Bradford will

:20:05. > :20:09.make it. I think you've got the weekend weather wrong if you don't

:20:10. > :20:13.mind me saying. Let me show you a couple of pictures that came in in

:20:14. > :20:17.the last 24 hours. There's some lovely cherry blossom in Normanton,

:20:18. > :20:27.and the second picture that is coming, a lovely one with a rainbow.

:20:28. > :20:31.Bretton Hall. You can tweak them to me at the address on the screen.

:20:32. > :20:38.Let's have a look at the weather for the next 24 hours. Mostly dry, the

:20:39. > :20:42.bit cloudy. I gathered people moaning that there's not enough rain

:20:43. > :20:47.across eastern parts. This cold front will reintroduce colder air

:20:48. > :20:53.and I think we are in for some frost next weekend. A milder interlude on

:20:54. > :20:58.Thursday, but then frost returning Friday night and into the weekend.

:20:59. > :21:03.This whether frontier is going to track south-eastwards over the next

:21:04. > :21:09.12-18 hours introduced quite cloudy conditions into West Yorkshire and

:21:10. > :21:13.the Midlands. This quite a lot of clout in place, the card will go a

:21:14. > :21:19.lot of it fairly tenuous feather is a chance of a spot of drizzle coming

:21:20. > :21:25.into Skipton coming in towards the end of the night. More central part

:21:26. > :21:30.of Yorkshire are most at risk of frost. Around urban areas it will be
