:00:00. > :00:00.and on BBC One we now join the BBC's news teams where you are.

:00:00. > :00:00.Hello, welcome to Friday's Look North.

:00:00. > :00:07.On the programme tonight: Hundreds of mourners pay their last respects

:00:08. > :00:13.to a teenager shot dead on the streets of Leeds.

:00:14. > :00:16.Also tonight: The centre that's helped obese people in Rotherham

:00:17. > :00:25.lose more than 30 tonnes stops taking NHS patients.

:00:26. > :00:30.it's been quite an opening week at the world Snooker Championships here

:00:31. > :00:32.in Sheffield. We'll be reflecting on that and the rest of the weekend's

:00:33. > :00:34.sporty little later. Why good old-fashioned

:00:35. > :00:47.vinyl is proving a real And not a bad weekend to get into

:00:48. > :00:49.the garden as high pressure is in charge. Big change next week. The

:00:50. > :00:56.forecast comes shortly. Hundreds have attended the funeral

:00:57. > :01:10.of the brother of a Leeds United footballer who was fatally injured

:01:11. > :01:11.following a shooting in the Harehills area

:01:12. > :01:13.of Leeds in February. Family and friends paid

:01:14. > :01:16.their respects during a moving service for nineteen year old Raheem

:01:17. > :01:17.Wilks. A horse-drawn hearse carried

:01:18. > :01:19.Raheem Wilks's cough into Outside in a chilled spring breeze,

:01:20. > :01:23.mourners comforted each other as they waited to mark a young life

:01:24. > :01:30.lived and lost. The 19-year-old died

:01:31. > :01:31.following a shooting at a barbershop on nearby

:01:32. > :01:40.Gathorne Terrace in January. He desperately wanted to be

:01:41. > :01:45.popular and was well loved amongst his family and friends,

:01:46. > :01:51.the circles in which he moved. The main message is really a message

:01:52. > :01:54.of love to say that God loves Raheem and that God loves us and want us

:01:55. > :01:58.to lead lives that are filled with love and friendship

:01:59. > :02:09.and loyalty with goodness. During the service, the congregation

:02:10. > :02:11.heard tributes from friends Mourners were told Raheem

:02:12. > :02:17.was fearless, funny and well liked. A postmortem revealed

:02:18. > :02:19.the 19-year-old died as a result of a single gunshot wound

:02:20. > :02:24.to the chest. Two men have been charged

:02:25. > :02:26.with his murder and are due Following this morning's

:02:27. > :02:31.service, a private service His family have thanked

:02:32. > :02:37.the community for their support and sympathy at what they say has

:02:38. > :02:43.been a very sad time. Next tonight, it's helped overweight

:02:44. > :02:49.people in Rotherham to lose 31 metric tonnes over the last eight

:02:50. > :02:52.years, but tonight it's emerged that the town's Institute of Obesity

:02:53. > :02:54.is to close its doors Yes, the award-winning facility has

:02:55. > :03:14.had its public funding withdrawn, even though 1,500 patients

:03:15. > :03:20.are referred every year. 73% of adults in Rotherham

:03:21. > :03:29.are obese or overweight. It will no longer be funded by the

:03:30. > :03:33.local council. I imagine you are quite disappointed. The news is

:03:34. > :03:40.devastating. We found at several weeks ago we were losing the ?300

:03:41. > :03:44.per year funding but there was a hope that the other clinical

:03:45. > :03:49.commissioning it would save us -- ?300,000 per year. We were

:03:50. > :03:52.cost-effective but we found at last we that not even they can find the

:03:53. > :03:57.money to save us some from the 12th of July there are no services here

:03:58. > :04:01.for NHS patients. you been breaking the news to some of your patients

:04:02. > :04:08.here this evening. Barbara, when you found out, what did you think?

:04:09. > :04:12.Really devastated. When I got home on Wednesday, after they had had

:04:13. > :04:18.matey and went to bed, I cried myself to sleep because I don't know

:04:19. > :04:23.what else I'm going to do. Insurers, the sort of difference that this

:04:24. > :04:29.difference has made -- it shows. You have lost five stone in 18 months,

:04:30. > :04:34.another success story. Absolutely, it has been absolutely fantastic in

:04:35. > :04:37.my weight loss, especially that there I have received. I'm concerned

:04:38. > :04:43.that if I go back to my own GP there are no options left if this place is

:04:44. > :04:48.taken away. Matthew, I think public health rather might argue they are

:04:49. > :04:51.facing pretty big cuts themselves from central Government, ?2 million

:04:52. > :04:55.over three years. He might have some sympathy why they've got to make

:04:56. > :04:58.these cuts. Yes, we understand that they got to make cuts but we been

:04:59. > :05:01.told by politicians and health experts for years that obesity is a

:05:02. > :05:05.priority and the public health crisis. It doesn't sound like they

:05:06. > :05:09.are prioritising obesity is both sets of commissioners are prepared

:05:10. > :05:17.to cut services like this in its entirety. a lot of sadness and

:05:18. > :05:20.confusion among staff and patients, many of them not sure what will be

:05:21. > :05:23.happening beyond the 12th of July. One thing to point out is that if

:05:24. > :05:25.you do have an existing appointment, you should still come along for

:05:26. > :05:25.that. Tonight Rotherham Council said

:05:26. > :05:27.the decision was taken They say, "We need to focus on more

:05:28. > :05:30.preventative services and interventions that reach

:05:31. > :05:33.a greater number of people. We are continuing working

:05:34. > :05:35.with partners and the local media to better inform people about how

:05:36. > :05:42.they can improve their health." More news now and a ?173 million

:05:43. > :05:45.deal to improve transport links in Leeds has been signed off

:05:46. > :05:48.by the Government. The money will be invested in park

:05:49. > :05:51.and ride facilities, and in creating new "bus

:05:52. > :05:53.corridors" designed to make There'll also be more real time

:05:54. > :05:58.information for passengers travelling in and out

:05:59. > :06:02.of the city centre. Leeds Council has welcomed

:06:03. > :06:04.confirmation of the deal, The Barnsley East MP

:06:05. > :06:13.Michael Dugher says he won't stand He won the seat for Labour in 2010,

:06:14. > :06:17.but was sacked from the shadow He says he wants to "make

:06:18. > :06:21.a difference in life outside of politics" and spend more time

:06:22. > :06:23.with his family. ?1.5 million is being shared

:06:24. > :06:25.between three Yorkshire hospital trusts to ease pressure

:06:26. > :06:31.on their emergency departments. Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Barnsley

:06:32. > :06:38.NHS Foundation Trust and Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals

:06:39. > :06:40.have been allocated funds The money will be used to help them

:06:41. > :06:44.meet the Government's target of dealing with 95% of A patients

:06:45. > :06:49.within four hours. Later on Look North:

:06:50. > :06:51.Yorkshire's digital boom - why thousands of highly paid jobs

:06:52. > :06:53.in computer industries are boosting A mile-long stretch

:06:54. > :07:06.of the River Aire in Leeds should be a little safer from now on,

:07:07. > :07:09.after the installation The ropes and buoyancy

:07:10. > :07:14.aids are designed to be used in rescue attempts,

:07:15. > :07:16.and prevent rescuers risking their own lives

:07:17. > :07:18.by entering the water. It comes after several

:07:19. > :07:20.deaths in recent years, with young people on a night out

:07:21. > :07:22.particularly at risk. The new lifelines are designed to be

:07:23. > :07:29.easy for anyone to use, but today it was fire crews getting

:07:30. > :07:32.the measure of them. 17 have been installed along

:07:33. > :07:36.the city centre stretch of the River Aire in Leeds,

:07:37. > :07:40.supplementing the more traditional It's the response to the 80

:07:41. > :07:46.life-threatening incidents on this The new lifelines are locked

:07:47. > :07:50.to prevent vandalism, Each one has a unique

:07:51. > :07:58.identification number. Simply call the emergency services,

:07:59. > :08:01.ask for Fire and Rescue and you will be given the code

:08:02. > :08:07.number to the lock. The Fire Rescue Service control

:08:08. > :08:09.will send our resources It's really important

:08:10. > :08:12.we get this address. And then the rescuer can

:08:13. > :08:14.deploy the through line Watching the training,

:08:15. > :08:21.Jackie Roberts. She has been campaigning

:08:22. > :08:28.for improved river safety since her daughter Megan drowned

:08:29. > :08:30.here three years ago For her, it's not at

:08:31. > :08:40.the lifelines that help They are like every little bit helps

:08:41. > :08:45.and we do to raise awareness and improve education to children

:08:46. > :08:48.from a very young age so that more people are aware of the danger

:08:49. > :08:50.because that is busy one of the dangers, people don't realise

:08:51. > :08:53.how dangerous it is. It's the first time I've ever seen

:08:54. > :08:56.them used to throw lines. Many other towns and cities have

:08:57. > :09:03.rivers running through them and lessening the danger

:09:04. > :09:08.while retaining attractiveness is tricky but the lifelines are part

:09:09. > :09:11.of the wider effort to reduce deaths It's claimed jobs in

:09:12. > :09:21.the digital tech sector It comes as the city prepares

:09:22. > :09:25.for the annual Digital Jobs Fair and it's great news for job seekers,

:09:26. > :09:28.graduates and the city itself. The sector is huge -

:09:29. > :09:35.it includes website developers, computer game designers,

:09:36. > :09:37.people making software and apps for mobile phones,

:09:38. > :09:39.and even developing artificial It's lucrative, too,

:09:40. > :09:42.with salaries averaging ?50,000. Well, in the Leeds City Region

:09:43. > :09:45.there are 60,000 jobs In the Sheffield City Region that

:09:46. > :09:51.number is over 35,000 jobs. Today, Sky Bet -

:09:52. > :09:57.the online gambling service - has announced 114 new jobs in

:09:58. > :10:02.Yorkshire. Our business correspondent

:10:03. > :10:21.Danni Hewson has been logging the tech sector here is thriving.

:10:22. > :10:24.There are hundreds of vacancies in the region. This company is

:10:25. > :10:31.expanding and desperate to fill jobs. We've doubled our headcount to

:10:32. > :10:35.1200, pretty much all elite Sheffield. We struggled over 100

:10:36. > :10:41.vacancies and have announced 140 new jobs today so there are all sorts of

:10:42. > :10:43.opportunities for people with the right skills and that is a skills

:10:44. > :10:46.shortage in this very exciting sector right here in our region in

:10:47. > :10:50.Yorkshire and in Leeds and Sheffield. Evidence the region is at

:10:51. > :10:54.the heart of this growing industry is everywhere. This is the UK's

:10:55. > :11:02.first virtual reality experience. It opens to the public tomorrow but I

:11:03. > :11:06.got to use it earlier. It is a really disorientating experience.

:11:07. > :11:14.You do feel like you're in the game with your fellow players, shooting

:11:15. > :11:17.down these bishops. -- these spaceships. The companies are

:11:18. > :11:21.hunting staff and worry some people might be put off by traditional

:11:22. > :11:27.stereotypes. We want to make sure that the gaming career is open to

:11:28. > :11:31.everyone, bring their interests to create these new types of

:11:32. > :11:39.experiences. That's something we've found in our games, from film-making

:11:40. > :11:46.to theatre to just chemistry. Delete a city region, these sort of jobs

:11:47. > :11:52.move the wage range from somewhere in the middle 20s as an average to

:11:53. > :11:57.the higher end, into the 40s and beyond in terms of annual salaries.

:11:58. > :12:00.With this in mind, the council has announced funding for a new

:12:01. > :12:05.technology hub to help create more success stories from the sector.

:12:06. > :12:10.The brother of the dementia patient who died when he was just 40 has

:12:11. > :12:14.praised a special exhibition showing her sufferers and their families

:12:15. > :12:18.cope with the on this. Matt Wilmut witnessed the sad demise of his

:12:19. > :12:22.elder brother Gareth. He believes the public can learn much from

:12:23. > :12:28.seeing official at the Barnsley Civic. They were times when you go

:12:29. > :12:33.and see him and we'd want to do just break down and cry. Format Wilmot, a

:12:34. > :12:39.particularly poignant moment as he looks at the pictures of his late

:12:40. > :12:42.brother Gareth, featured in the Somewhere in Time exhibition. Gareth

:12:43. > :12:48.died last month from dementia at the age of just 40. Four years ago, look

:12:49. > :12:57.not featured Gareth with his family, shortly after he had been diagnosed.

:12:58. > :13:00.It's a shocking situation to go through, someone that was so vibrant

:13:01. > :13:09.and full of life over the course of a couple of years becoming a

:13:10. > :13:14.bedridden husk in a sense. Somewhere in Time is the special project of

:13:15. > :13:20.buyers a photographer Adrian Ashworth whose father Alan is now in

:13:21. > :13:23.a care home for dementia sufferers. He's drifting away, each day you see

:13:24. > :13:26.little bit more of them go away so it's really important for me to be

:13:27. > :13:31.able to catch on in this exhibition and dedicated to my father. Matt

:13:32. > :13:37.Wilmot is clear about the need to be open about dementia. It's one thing

:13:38. > :13:42.my parents have wanted to do, they wanted to be as open as possible

:13:43. > :13:48.about our situation and our story to just help anyone. If we can make one

:13:49. > :13:54.family's journey through dementia even slightly easier then we'll know

:13:55. > :14:00.that it was all worth it. the images of Somewhere in Time to pick

:14:01. > :14:03.communities living with dementia, a debilitating condition described as

:14:04. > :14:09.an illness that cannot be undone. Sport now, and the Crucible

:14:10. > :14:11.is of course celebrating its 40th anniversary hosting the snooker,

:14:12. > :14:14.and what a week they've had. Tanya's at the Winter Gardens

:14:15. > :14:16.in Sheffield tonight to reflect on that and all the rest

:14:17. > :14:32.of the weekends action. It is indeed. The back of the BBC

:14:33. > :14:40.studio for the opening week and a bit of week two. What an opening

:14:41. > :14:50.week it has been! They have had shock, intrigue and some fantastic

:14:51. > :15:00.snooker. I'm joined by Willie Thorn. How do you get over that We've not

:15:01. > :15:06.got over the shock. It's an amazing thing all in all, it's a big shock

:15:07. > :15:14.for me, it has been the biggest shock ever. That's quite something.

:15:15. > :15:17.Ronnie created some intrigue, he keeps Nagar in the headlines,

:15:18. > :15:25.doesn't he? Unfortunately he does know how to keep quiet! -- keeps

:15:26. > :15:30.snooker in the headlines. Talk me through that shot. It was more like

:15:31. > :15:33.an exhibition from Shaun Murphy. When you watch something like that,

:15:34. > :15:41.it's the sort of thing you do in exhibition shows. The only

:15:42. > :15:46.unfortunate thing is he didn't win the frame. You've been coming here

:15:47. > :15:55.as a player and now as part of the BBC commentary team. It's the 40th

:15:56. > :15:59.anniversary, it's changed a bit. Sheffield itself has changed,

:16:00. > :16:02.Sheffield is snooker city, we love coming here and we've seen the city

:16:03. > :16:07.goal and the town centre is an amazing place to be now. Is it like

:16:08. > :16:13.a working holiday for you, coming to the same place every year? I think

:16:14. > :16:23.so, I know the places to go on the place is not to go. Who's your money

:16:24. > :16:25.on to list the title? Before the tournament, there were ten. Trump

:16:26. > :16:32.was a big loss at the tournament. Now there are nine, I don't know. We

:16:33. > :16:35.could have a new champion this year. Fantastic news that it's coming back

:16:36. > :16:39.for the next ten years. I trust you'll be here for the next ten

:16:40. > :16:47.years? If I'm still alive, I be coming back! Is it a place you look

:16:48. > :16:50.forward to coming to? I've not played here for 16 years and I still

:16:51. > :16:57.get a buzz coming down the Parkway every time I come into Sheffield.

:16:58. > :17:01.The hairs on my arms stand up. This is snooker, everyone wants to be

:17:02. > :17:07.here. you better go, you're nearer seven! Thank you for joining us.

:17:08. > :17:08.Just down the road, the British National swimming Championships is

:17:09. > :17:13.taking place. Last night Sheffield's Max

:17:14. > :17:15.Litchfield smashed the British record on the way to winning

:17:16. > :17:17.the 400m individual medley. His younger brother Joe also made

:17:18. > :17:20.the podium coming in third. Max's time means he's also

:17:21. > :17:23.booked his spot in the team for this Two years ago I didn't quite make

:17:24. > :17:30.the team so this year to come from last year and back it up again

:17:31. > :17:33.this year, and still swimming fast, it's fantastic and hopefully I can

:17:34. > :17:37.do better than that. We only have a couple of rounds left

:17:38. > :17:47.of the regular football season. There are still plenty of twists

:17:48. > :17:50.and turns to come no doubt, but both Huddersfield Town

:17:51. > :17:52.and Bradford City could book Warming up for a final push

:17:53. > :17:58.towards the end of season play-offs. Along with Sheffield Wednesday

:17:59. > :18:01.and Leeds United, Huddersfield town's players still need points

:18:02. > :18:04.to be certain of a championship Leeds United's surprise defeat

:18:05. > :18:13.to Wolves has on them out of the top six for now so Leeds might yet need

:18:14. > :18:17.that extra element of a slip on one They are scheduled to play

:18:18. > :18:23.at Sheffield Wednesday in a fortnight on the final weekend

:18:24. > :18:27.of the season and tomorrow, Fulham come north to face

:18:28. > :18:29.Huddersfield for a match We have the opportunity

:18:30. > :18:41.to secure the play-off spot. It's the first game of the season

:18:42. > :18:44.where we could have something in our hands after

:18:45. > :18:49.the final whistle. In league one, with Sheffield United

:18:50. > :18:51.already crowned champions, Bradford city can follow the Blades

:18:52. > :18:54.to promotion via the play-offs. City only need a single point

:18:55. > :18:56.from their remaining two matches Best do it this weekend though

:18:57. > :19:01.against Wimbledon because Rochdale could be a tricky opponent

:19:02. > :19:06.on the final weekend of the season. When it comes to the play-off,

:19:07. > :19:09.there will be new energy, great excitement from the fans,

:19:10. > :19:13.from us and from Bradford It's a good thing the players

:19:14. > :19:23.are relaxed and happy at training this week,

:19:24. > :19:25.because the supporters England captain Joe Root and wicket

:19:26. > :19:37.keeper Jonny Bairstow were in the Yorkshire line-up

:19:38. > :19:42.for the start of today's county championship match at Hampshire,

:19:43. > :19:44.but the England contingent haven't been able to stop Hampshire

:19:45. > :19:47.from putting a big marker down. Despite two more wickets from rising

:19:48. > :19:51.Yorkshire star Ben Coad, Hampshire have reached 281 for 4

:19:52. > :20:01.at the end of day one. Good luck to Alistair Brownlee is

:20:02. > :20:04.doing his first half Ironman this weekend. That's it from me.

:20:05. > :20:10.They might be all the rage now, but in my day we just called them LPs.

:20:11. > :20:13.I'm going to put one on for you, a real classic.

:20:14. > :20:17.Yes, you press that, and you used to have three

:20:18. > :20:20.settings in my day - 33, 45 and 78, but I'm going to give

:20:21. > :20:23.you a real classic here, because this is Abba.

:20:24. > :20:32.Tomorrow is Record Store Day and to celebrate, BBC Six music's

:20:33. > :20:34.Lauren Laverne broadcast her show from Huddersfield's

:20:35. > :20:53.Good morning, music lovers, we're live at Vinyl Tap in Huddersfield!

:20:54. > :20:58.Vinyl Tap has been an integral part of the Huddersfield music scene

:20:59. > :21:02.for 30 years and has been involved in Record Store Day since it began

:21:03. > :21:07.back in 2007, making it the perfect choice for

:21:08. > :21:09.6 Music to broadcast from ahead of tomorrow's event.

:21:10. > :21:11.It's a nice opportunity to show how important

:21:12. > :21:16.There are 200 taking part in the UK and thousands across the world

:21:17. > :21:19.and it's a showcase for record stores and the part they play

:21:20. > :21:21.in the local music scene and the arts and culture scene

:21:22. > :21:52.It wasn't that long ago that record shops were being forced out

:21:53. > :21:55.of business because of the rising online sales, but in recent years,

:21:56. > :21:57.there's been a resurgence in their popularity, helped no doubt

:21:58. > :22:03.We've been doing this since 1986 and this last year is our best

:22:04. > :22:10.The record companies actually stopped pressing vinyl so when

:22:11. > :22:14.there was no new vinyl coming out, people couldn't buy it

:22:15. > :22:17.because they weren't pressing it, so a lot of the credit goes

:22:18. > :22:25.and the specialist labels that carried on pressing it.

:22:26. > :22:33.The record companies realised that people still wanted it.

:22:34. > :22:40.What has got people choosing vinyl? It's got the old vinyl smell and you

:22:41. > :22:43.can check out the covers. You just come across something interesting.

:22:44. > :22:45.Does something about owning a physical record that you don't get

:22:46. > :22:51.with digital. Record Store Day takes place

:22:52. > :22:57.tomorrow with events being held at shops and venues

:22:58. > :23:06.across the world. Don't worry about the dancing, your

:23:07. > :23:14.career is still intact! Are you a vinyl person? No, I'm not a vinyl

:23:15. > :23:18.person. Where's the record player? I was hoping it would still be here.

:23:19. > :23:28.And when are you two going on Strictly?

:23:29. > :23:41.Thank you for your weather pictures. I think that's a sheep!

:23:42. > :23:58.Lovelace skies in Ripley -- lovely. Keep your pictures coming in. Not a

:23:59. > :24:04.bad day today. Tomorrow is looking cloudy. It will be largely dry and

:24:05. > :24:08.actually this weekend is looking pretty good, mostly settled and

:24:09. > :24:12.that's thanks to high pressure. To day, this sinks to the south and it

:24:13. > :24:16.is a weak weather fronts disappearing. Behind it, things will

:24:17. > :24:21.be dry and temperatures across rural parts down to 45 Celsius but for

:24:22. > :24:25.most of us as you can see in the graphics, seven or eight Celsius

:24:26. > :24:33.should about do it. High water tomorrow, very early at 1:40am and

:24:34. > :24:38.then 15:50pm later. It will be priced out of day across parts of

:24:39. > :24:43.West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire especially, cloudy in the north but

:24:44. > :24:46.any kind of light rain showers will clear and heavy one will see a bit

:24:47. > :24:52.of brightness at least tomorrow. Cool along the coast at 11 or 12

:24:53. > :25:00.Celsius, we do have a northerly breeze. The winds are quite cold but

:25:01. > :25:02.at least they are light winds. The high pressure is on charge on

:25:03. > :25:07.Saturday and it sticks around as we look to Sunday and Monday, except

:25:08. > :25:10.here comes an area of low pressure. A bit of science, winds rotate

:25:11. > :25:15.around low pressure in an anticlockwise fashion so that brings

:25:16. > :25:19.down cold air from the north. That's going to have a knock on our

:25:20. > :25:25.temperatures. Saturday and Sunday, 12 or 13 Celsius, down the goal as

:25:26. > :25:29.we look towards Tuesday and Wednesday, so we could see a bit of

:25:30. > :25:33.sleet and snow mainly on high ground. I think what we're more

:25:34. > :25:38.likely to feel are really bitterly cold winds with the risk of wintry

:25:39. > :25:43.showers. Some of these following to lower levels, but definitely, a

:25:44. > :25:48.different feel to the weather next week. We're going to need an extra

:25:49. > :25:56.layer. And keep dancing to keep warm!

:25:57. > :26:01.We'll see you next week from one of the same. Good night.
