:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening, welcome to Look North. news teams where you are.

:00:00. > :00:00.Tonight - compensation for sexual abuse.

:00:07. > :00:09.Roger Dodds assaulted colleagues at Sheffield City Council -

:00:10. > :00:16.it will now have to pay out thousands of pounds.

:00:17. > :00:22.I am delighted with the outcome in my favour which indicates what I

:00:23. > :00:24.have said all along. Could Brexit turn Harrogate

:00:25. > :00:27.from blue to yellow? We're serving up the latest

:00:28. > :00:29.manifesto in Harrogate. Will the promise of another EU

:00:30. > :00:32.referendum return the town TV history under the hammer

:00:33. > :00:46.as Hilda Ogden's rollers, hairnet and pinny are sold

:00:47. > :00:55.off at auction. It has been a rotten day across many

:00:56. > :00:56.parts of Yorkshire, improvement on the way for Thursday but what about

:00:57. > :01:14.the weekend? Join me for the latest. And we will be live at Hillsborough

:01:15. > :01:16.for the game between Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield.

:01:17. > :01:18.Tonight - Sheffield City Council must pay at least ?90,000

:01:19. > :01:20.in compensation - plus tens of thousands more

:01:21. > :01:22.in loss of earnings - to a former employee

:01:23. > :01:24.who was sexually abused by a council official.

:01:25. > :01:27.Richard Rowe, who has waived his right to anonymity, sued

:01:28. > :01:29.the council after being assaulted by Roger Dodds in the 1980s.

:01:30. > :01:32.Dodds was jailed for 16 years in February after admitting abusing

:01:33. > :01:40.You might find some of the details in Tom Ingall's report distressing.

:01:41. > :01:44.A sexual predator - with the power of patronage over his victims.

:01:45. > :01:47.Forty years ago Roger Dodds worked in the heart of Sheffield

:01:48. > :02:01.The young men he abused needed grants for education - or a job.

:02:02. > :02:04.Very gradually his left hand started to find its way towards my pocket.

:02:05. > :02:07.This man was assualted at his very first meeting with Dodds.

:02:08. > :02:10.He was waived his right to anonymity and has now

:02:11. > :02:15.He has been awarded ninety thousand pounds, plus an amount still to be

:02:16. > :02:19.decided in respect of lost earnings.

:02:20. > :02:28.Their attitude has been very tough, very hard, unforgiving and

:02:29. > :02:35.unrelenting. We have asked questions, there has been no

:02:36. > :02:36.response. We have asked specific questions and they have answered an

:02:37. > :02:38.roundabout sort of way. Complaints about Dodds were first

:02:39. > :02:40.raised with the council He was moved to a different

:02:41. > :02:43.job which allowed him In 1993 there were more

:02:44. > :02:47.allegations and he was allowed In 2008 the council

:02:48. > :02:53.investigated again. Three years ago new

:02:54. > :02:55.allegations came to light. In February Dodds was finally

:02:56. > :03:08.sentenced to sixteen We would never defend the

:03:09. > :03:10.indefensible and we have never failed to accept responsibility

:03:11. > :03:16.despite the fact that this happened several decades ago. We fully accept

:03:17. > :03:19.the settlement that the judge me today, we have made a raft of

:03:20. > :03:22.changes in policies and procedures and shattered city council since

:03:23. > :03:24.Roger Dodds left the authority. Todays judgment has helped

:03:25. > :03:26.to ease Richard's mind. He believes their may be

:03:27. > :03:28.others Dodds inflicted himself upon who have yet

:03:29. > :03:36.to tell their story. With the frequency of what I

:03:37. > :03:44.observed, and what others have since commented on and with the observed

:03:45. > :03:45.of students going through Dodds offers, another ten or 100 wouldn't

:03:46. > :03:48.surprise me at all. Tonight a final revelation -

:03:49. > :03:51.he is still being paid Next tonight - the Liberal

:03:52. > :03:58.Democrats will offer voters Launching the manifesto today

:03:59. > :04:02.they promised a referendum on any They're putting areas which voted

:04:03. > :04:08.Remain at the top of their hit list. That includes Harrogate

:04:09. > :04:12.and Knaresborough. It's seven years since the Lib Dems

:04:13. > :04:15.lost the seat to the tories - could this manifesto return the town

:04:16. > :04:30.to the Lib Dem fold? Three weeks to go, it is hard work

:04:31. > :04:34.keeping up with the election but that is why Coffey was invented.

:04:35. > :04:40.Today has been about the Lib Dems and one word dominates their

:04:41. > :04:45.manifesto, Brexit. The other only party to promise a second

:04:46. > :04:51.referendum. Do you want another referendum? I do. I think people

:04:52. > :05:03.have made a mistake and voting as they have. Good idea or bad idea?

:05:04. > :05:06.Another one? Terrible, idiotic. We had one and people have voted and we

:05:07. > :05:13.want to go with their wishes. I think they ought to just go with

:05:14. > :05:18.what the majority wanted, it was a slimmer majority. I voted remain, I

:05:19. > :05:21.am happy to say that but I believe and respecting democracy so I am not

:05:22. > :05:26.entirely sure on the strength of that from the manifesto that would

:05:27. > :05:31.make me vote for them. The Lib Dems on the old two seats in Yorkshire,

:05:32. > :05:35.which is why Harrogate is important. A second Brexit referendum would go

:05:36. > :05:41.down well here because Harrogate narrowly voted to remain but didn't

:05:42. > :05:45.have the stomach for more tax rises? The rainy day fund would be for

:05:46. > :05:50.health care and to spend more money than what an extra penny of tax on

:05:51. > :05:59.every pound we learn. And I think it is a good idea. I do much about it

:06:00. > :06:08.but may have just... It wouldn't make me vote for them. My son went

:06:09. > :06:15.to university lasting. I think I would vote for them. They would

:06:16. > :06:23.lower the voting age to 16, they would ban all diesel vehicles and

:06:24. > :06:26.legalise cannabis. I think our stick with the coffee. You Lib Dems think

:06:27. > :06:30.they can when people run by promising big on a second Brexit

:06:31. > :06:37.referendum but all voters choose them from the manifesto menu?

:06:38. > :06:39.James is live for us in Harrogate now.

:06:40. > :06:46.So far only the Lib Dems are offering a second referendum ?

:06:47. > :06:51.They are the only ones offering a referendum but this difference to

:06:52. > :06:57.the one we had last year which was on the principle of leaving the EU,

:06:58. > :07:01.but the Lib Dems are seeing is they will negotiate Brexit, to get the

:07:02. > :07:04.deal sorted and then will be a referendum on what the detail of

:07:05. > :07:11.that deal is, to the people of Britain except the specific deal

:07:12. > :07:13.will they elect to remain in the EU? If open to get people here in

:07:14. > :07:17.Harrogate with that because it was one of the three places in Yorkshire

:07:18. > :07:24.but choose to remain. If upping it works for them here. Sorry landslide

:07:25. > :07:29.against the Lib Dems and the last election, what is the picture in

:07:30. > :07:35.Yorkshire at the moment? They had a terrible general election two years

:07:36. > :07:42.ago, the last 50 seats nationwide, the only have two seats in Yorkshire

:07:43. > :07:45.at the moment but they will be hoping that Harrogate is one of the

:07:46. > :07:51.places they can win back although it 16,000 majority for the

:07:52. > :07:54.Conservatives. In terms of manifesto that is finally stuffed down on

:07:55. > :07:59.paper, Labour and the Lib Dems today, the Tories this week. The

:08:00. > :08:04.next to tell us why we should vote for them.

:08:05. > :08:07.Well, one of the most interesting places to watch on General Election

:08:08. > :08:10.It's also one of the most unusual constituencies,

:08:11. > :08:13.taking in rural villages and the very diverse areas around

:08:14. > :08:20.There's one thing you may well notice if you drive into Dewsbury.

:08:21. > :08:23.This town is covered in election campaign posters because the parties

:08:24. > :08:30.Labour won the seat in 2015, the Conservatives were second

:08:31. > :08:34.not all that far behind and Ukip were third.

:08:35. > :08:38.This time around, Ukip will not be standing in Dewsbury

:08:39. > :08:41.so what will Ukip supporters decide to do with their vote

:08:42. > :08:46.It will be very interesting to see what happens in what really is one

:08:47. > :08:56.of the most unusual constituencies in the country.

:08:57. > :08:58.There can be few constituencies more diverse than this one.

:08:59. > :09:01.On the outskirts of Dewsbury town centre is the largely Muslim

:09:02. > :09:24.Whoever is interested in the family, they can tell me who to vote for!

:09:25. > :09:28.But even those who aren't passionate about politics certainly feel

:09:29. > :09:44.Education is one thing I am concerned about, the eye-catching

:09:45. > :09:47.teachers and you wonder what the student and staff ratio will be like

:09:48. > :09:50.They're cutting staff members, teaching assistants in schools,

:09:51. > :09:52.Inflation at the moment is at a ridiculous level.

:09:53. > :09:55.Taxes are going up but the working wage is not far off

:09:56. > :09:58.Immigration, everybody's moaning about it, but that's

:09:59. > :10:00.not such a big issue, that can be dealt with.

:10:01. > :10:07.A few miles away, the landscape of the Dewsbury constituency

:10:08. > :10:15.At the local craft group, it's the Conservative leader

:10:16. > :10:20.who seems to be getting the most support.

:10:21. > :10:25.I think the fact Theresa May is female is an obvious statement.

:10:26. > :10:30.She does seem to have a handle on what women want as well.

:10:31. > :10:35.She's a politician but she's also a person.

:10:36. > :10:38.but you're not a fan of Jeremy Corbyn?

:10:39. > :10:41.I was really upset when he never sang the national

:10:42. > :10:49.I think that was really disrespectful to the Queen.

:10:50. > :10:56.The fact the health service has changed and the fact

:10:57. > :11:01.we're losing a hospital, the fact we may lose our library,

:11:02. > :11:03.the fact they want to build on what is supposed

:11:04. > :11:09.But yet you want to stick with the Conservative Government.

:11:10. > :11:11.I'm not quite sure what the difference would be

:11:12. > :11:23.I feel strongly about the North-South divide, I think there

:11:24. > :11:26.needs to be much more realisation that we exist appear.

:11:27. > :11:28.Although many of these women may be voting Conservative,

:11:29. > :11:31.the village they live in has plenty of Labour supporters.

:11:32. > :11:38.It seems this constituency really could go either way.

:11:39. > :11:40.Here's a list of all four candidates standing in Dewsbury

:11:41. > :11:42.at the general election, there are more details

:11:43. > :11:49.If that's got you thinking about the election --

:11:50. > :11:52.and there's a question you'd like to ask Look North --

:11:53. > :11:55.I'll be live on Facebook at ten past eight --

:11:56. > :11:57.with our politics expert getting you some answers.

:11:58. > :12:04.Just search for BBC Look North Yorkshire.

:12:05. > :12:09.Full military honours - More than a century after he died

:12:10. > :12:12.in battle, the remains of a Yorkshire soldier have been

:12:13. > :12:25.The ashes of Moors Murderer Ian Brady will NOT be scattered

:12:26. > :12:28.on Saddleworth Moor, where he dumped most of his victims.

:12:29. > :12:31.The assurance was made by Brady's solicitor during a Coroner's Court

:12:32. > :12:36.The notorious paedophile and child killer died on Monday at a secure

:12:37. > :12:46.There's been a slight drop in the number of people in Yorkshire

:12:47. > :12:52.A total of a hundred and thirty four thousand people are now out

:12:53. > :13:03.More than a century after he died in battle, the remains

:13:04. > :13:06.of a Yorkshire soldier from the Green Howards have been

:13:07. > :13:08.laid to rest in France - with full military honours.Private

:13:09. > :13:11.Henry Parker was twenty-three when he was killed during the Battle

:13:12. > :13:13.of the Somme in 1916, but his bones were only recovered

:13:14. > :13:24.100 years since he was killed at the Battle of the Somme,

:13:25. > :13:27.Henry Parker was back today with his Yorkshire

:13:28. > :13:39.At the cemetery in France, he was buried with full military honours

:13:40. > :13:44.close to where he fell at the age of 23.

:13:45. > :13:48.The trenches were knee deep in mud, the combat stress he would have

:13:49. > :13:52.And how these young men are carried out

:13:53. > :13:55.the exploits that they did with the bravery and determination

:13:56. > :14:10.Private Parker was a member of the Yorkshire Regiment a

:14:11. > :14:13.soldier like many from the First World War who had been

:14:14. > :14:16.In 2015 this Yorkshire regimental badge was found

:14:17. > :14:18.in France with human remains, a rare find

:14:19. > :14:25.Yorkshire was to end 100 years of waiting.

:14:26. > :14:34.Through DNA testing organised by the MOD's

:14:35. > :14:38.casualty centre, the human remains were matched to Henry's

:14:39. > :14:42.Today Francis and other family members

:14:43. > :14:45.made the journey from east and north Yorkshire to see their long-lost

:14:46. > :14:53.I think he would have been really proud of it.

:14:54. > :14:59.Farmer, most of them were farmers, so he is back where he belongs.

:15:00. > :15:02.So 100 years on, a dignified end for this

:15:03. > :15:24.Onto sport now and Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday will play

:15:25. > :15:27.for a place in the most valuable game in football tonight.

:15:28. > :15:28.The Yorkshire rivals drew

:15:29. > :15:30.of their championship playoff semifinal.

:15:31. > :15:33.Tonight's victor will be one win from the Premier League -

:15:34. > :15:36.a step up estimated to be worth two hundred million pounds.

:15:37. > :15:38.Tanya's at Hillsborough for us now...

:15:39. > :15:53.It is a damp night at Sheffield Wednesday at that. In the

:15:54. > :15:57.atmosphere, more than 30,000 fans expected and here and it is all

:15:58. > :16:06.square, 0-0 and it really tight match on Sunday. So who has the

:16:07. > :16:08.advantage? Huddersfield claim they are the underdogs, Sheffield

:16:09. > :16:14.Wednesday confident and our home form. Much year from the managers. I

:16:15. > :16:20.think the pressure is on Wednesday because they are in the play-offs

:16:21. > :16:32.and there is a reason why. We know who is the favourite and two is the

:16:33. > :16:40.underdog. If you sort how we won and lost, we won more games at home than

:16:41. > :16:43.away. We have people in both Casio, the former Sheffield Wednesday

:16:44. > :16:49.manager at the former Huddersfield goalkeeper, do you think it is right

:16:50. > :16:54.that depression is Sheffield Wednesday? I think so. After what

:16:55. > :16:58.happened last season to them it was to go one better so I think all the

:16:59. > :17:06.pressure has been on Wednesday night from the first game of the season. I

:17:07. > :17:10.also think they will come through. And their home form has been very

:17:11. > :17:16.good, big wins here, that will help them. And the atmosphere tonight

:17:17. > :17:19.will be electric. It can replicate what he did against Brighton and

:17:20. > :17:29.then be running for one heck of a night. Can Huddersfield Plymouth a

:17:30. > :17:32.bit of abandoned and go for this? And anyone expected to be here, they

:17:33. > :17:36.have been exceptional this season and I don't think they can play like

:17:37. > :17:40.they did against Brighton and Leeds, they'd really well but I hope they

:17:41. > :17:45.take the chances to read, that is the big thing. We will be good on

:17:46. > :17:52.the ball, the disruptive protest in the back of the net. They have too

:17:53. > :17:57.scored a goal against them. That'll make it even more special. It will

:17:58. > :18:03.be a fantastic atmosphere, 2000 Huddersfield fans which I'm sure we

:18:04. > :18:08.will hear. It could go to penalties matters that something goalkeepers

:18:09. > :18:12.look forward to? That is the time we shame. I've had great times with

:18:13. > :18:15.penalty shoot outs in the past and ensure they people look forward to

:18:16. > :18:21.being the hero. At this point in time, voters alike for the manager?

:18:22. > :18:25.You don't want to know. We have done all the work and the topping,

:18:26. > :18:29.because do anything more, the players are well prepared and both

:18:30. > :18:32.camps and the manager will just be having his thinking time, just

:18:33. > :18:40.trying to sort everything because it is great to be very fast and furious

:18:41. > :18:44.tonight. What is great to happen? I think it'll be and Huddersfield will

:18:45. > :18:49.have position but Sheffield Wednesday have such quality that

:18:50. > :18:59.they will be goals. And don't for 1-0 Huddersfield. If you want a

:19:00. > :19:00.Huddersfield town commentary, Brian is heading to Sheffield, we can see

:19:01. > :19:05.is maybe best team win. There's another crucial playoff

:19:06. > :19:08.match about to kick off - Yorkshire Carnegie

:19:09. > :19:11.play the first leg of their Championship playoff final

:19:12. > :19:13.against London Irish Head coach Bryan Redpath is leaving

:19:14. > :19:17.the club this summer and says he's The winner will be promoted

:19:18. > :19:27.to the Premiership. To achieve something with the script

:19:28. > :19:34.would be the best thing, because it is the hardest. I'll miss it's no

:19:35. > :19:38.end everyday but new chapters, new things open up predicting on-board

:19:39. > :19:44.and there will be a tear and may eye no question of get to that stage.

:19:45. > :19:47.Glossy sports books come out everyday about Man Utd, Andy Murray,

:19:48. > :19:51.But let me recommend this one to you...a warts and all view

:19:52. > :19:54.of a season in the life of Batley bulldogs rugby league club.

:19:55. > :19:57.It's more than a rugby league tale though.

:19:58. > :20:02.explaining how the club grinds on in the most challenging

:20:03. > :20:17.And enjoys a special place in the game's tradition.

:20:18. > :20:25.It has a reputation, being a bit of a dump and I think that is

:20:26. > :20:29.completely unfair. You can see if you look around how green it is even

:20:30. > :20:32.on a pleasant afternoon like this with the rain, it is still

:20:33. > :20:44.beautiful, rich tradition and history. The club has huge tradition

:20:45. > :20:53.as did supporters. People here still eat dripping, the boss drippings

:20:54. > :20:58.from the bottom of a roasting tin, here in Batley it is a delicacy. I

:20:59. > :21:03.think if anything sums up the community spirit it is what happened

:21:04. > :21:08.to Jo Cox, it was tragic yet should take amenity spirit through the

:21:09. > :21:16.whole town but especially here. It certainly did. The town was

:21:17. > :21:21.devastated by it and Jo was a big friend of this club and jewel was

:21:22. > :21:26.part of that family. For that first home game against Dewsbury last year

:21:27. > :21:34.it was an astonishing occasion and a real honour to be at that and see

:21:35. > :21:39.the look amenity coming together and using the Batley bulldogs and Mount

:21:40. > :21:42.Pleasant as a focus for that. It survives on 1000 people but is loved

:21:43. > :21:47.by those with passion and commitment. If this book achieves

:21:48. > :21:48.nothing else, help you get more people through the turnstiles at

:21:49. > :21:51.Batley because they deserve it. She was one of television's best

:21:52. > :21:55.loved characters - Hilda Ogden - famous for her sharp tongue,

:21:56. > :21:57.her trademark headscarf, Now some of those iconic items have

:21:58. > :22:03.sold at auction for more than four thousand pounds.Jean Alexander's

:22:04. > :22:09.neice, from North Yorkshire, discovered many of the items

:22:10. > :22:29.when she cleared her aunt's house. Is one of the most famous outfits in

:22:30. > :22:35.TV history, the colours, the here and it and the penny of Helder

:22:36. > :22:44.Ogden. Today it went under the hammer. Jean Alexander played

:22:45. > :22:48.Coronation Street's must love gossip for more than 20 years. She died

:22:49. > :23:02.last October and her niece was auctioning her belongings. The star

:23:03. > :23:05.attraction is the pinny. After she died I came across a parcel and the

:23:06. > :23:10.World Cup without handwriting and conduct was the first pinny and

:23:11. > :23:19.headscarf she had used in the show. They belonged to my grandmother,

:23:20. > :23:22.Jean's mother. There was online interest from Italy and America but

:23:23. > :23:27.many turned up to build it in person. She just amended you of your

:23:28. > :23:36.aunt or your grandmother. A typical non-permitted. -- Northern lady.

:23:37. > :23:50.This went by four by far the biggest amount. ?4000 will stop what they
