:02:03. > :02:05.Dave Crook has been volunteering at the Archer Project in Sheffield

:02:06. > :02:08.for the best part of 20 years, and the charity knows,

:02:09. > :02:11.without him and his fried eggs, they would be stuck.

:02:12. > :02:15.This place and many places like it could not run without volunteers.

:02:16. > :02:18.We have got volunteers who have been here 18 years,

:02:19. > :02:25.Meals are given out every day, and it will be even more

:02:26. > :02:28.important over Christmas. Chris has spent time on the streets.

:02:29. > :02:31.He says this time of year is particularly bad.

:02:32. > :02:34.It is absolutely terrible, because you need to get

:02:35. > :02:37.about three sleeping bags, and then you have the thought

:02:38. > :02:41.of your family, what you have lost, especially around Christmas,

:02:42. > :02:51.thinking, I could be in my house with my family.

:02:52. > :02:54.Chris now volunteers at the Archer Project,

:02:55. > :02:57.and it is one of the organisations involved in a new project

:02:58. > :03:02.One of the things they are doing is trying to make people think

:03:03. > :03:05.about whether they should give money to people on the street or give it

:03:06. > :03:10.We don't want to tell people what to do with their money.

:03:11. > :03:12.We like the fact that people are generous,

:03:13. > :03:15.but we want people to help people, and giving money often keeps

:03:16. > :03:18.people where they are, and doesn't help them move on.

:03:19. > :03:21.I think that is a very good idea, because if they are giving money

:03:22. > :03:24.to people on the streets, not all of them, but a good

:03:25. > :03:27.majority of people, it is going on drink or drugs

:03:28. > :03:29.anyway, so I think it is a brilliant idea.

:03:30. > :03:32.Giving it to the charities, you know the money is getting spent

:03:33. > :03:34.properly then and they are getting the proper help the people need.

:03:35. > :03:37.Back in the kitchen, the breakfast rush has finished,

:03:38. > :03:45.but that just means the volunteers have to start on making dinner.
