:00:09. > :00:09.Tonight: Investigators say a firearm was found

:00:10. > :00:12.in the car of Yassar Yaqub - who was shot dead

:00:13. > :00:16.Tonight there has been at least one peaceful protest

:00:17. > :00:19.connected to the incident - when a group of people held banners

:00:20. > :00:31.I'll be back with the news of sunshine for tomorrow but also windy

:00:32. > :00:35.conditions as well. That's later in the live forecast.

:00:36. > :00:41.Investigators have found a fire arm in the car

:00:42. > :00:43.belonging to Yassar Yaqub, the Huddersfield man shot dead

:00:44. > :00:47.The 28-year-old died during a pre-planned police

:00:48. > :00:49.Our reporter Charlotte Leeming joins us from

:00:50. > :01:05.Good evening. It was around six o'clock last night that police shot

:01:06. > :01:11.dead a 28-year-old man, a father of two, who was called Yassar Yaqub.

:01:12. > :01:19.The vehicles involved in that incident last night have now been

:01:20. > :01:22.recovered from the scene of the M62 after a day of intense forensic

:01:23. > :01:26.examination and the Lord has now been reopened to traffic. The

:01:27. > :01:33.investigation into this fatal shooting is still at an early stage

:01:34. > :01:35.-- the road has been reopened. A gun was found in a car in which Yassar

:01:36. > :01:37.Yaqub was found travelling in. The slip road where a white

:01:38. > :01:39.Audi was forced to stop You can see three bullet holes

:01:40. > :01:45.in the windscreen and keys Today, forensics teams

:01:46. > :01:50.and investigators were working behind screens on the carriageway,

:01:51. > :01:53.which was shut for 24 hours. A nearby resident

:01:54. > :01:57.described what she saw. When I looked over,

:01:58. > :01:59.everything had stood still, I didn't hear the shooting

:02:00. > :02:15.and didn't see the shooting, but I did see the car boxed

:02:16. > :02:19.in and then I saw some big policemen The man who died is 28-year-old

:02:20. > :02:25.Yassar Yaqub, a father of two from the Crosland Moore

:02:26. > :02:27.area of Huddersfield. This afternoon, flowers

:02:28. > :02:29.were taken to the family home by relatives and friends,

:02:30. > :02:31.who asked for their One witness caught up in the drama

:02:32. > :02:37.last night described what he saw. There were these rapid response

:02:38. > :02:39.vehicles pulling up, big, large, vehicles,

:02:40. > :02:46.then a couple of ambulances. As soon as the ambulances pulled up,

:02:47. > :02:49.some of the policemen told the ambulance staff to get down

:02:50. > :02:52.as quickly as possible to where It looked like somebody needed

:02:53. > :02:55.urgent medical help. This evening, it emerged a gun had

:02:56. > :02:58.been discovered in the vehicle That's now under

:02:59. > :03:03.forensic examination. Three people were arrested

:03:04. > :03:05.at the scene of the incident. Two more were detained

:03:06. > :03:10.at Chain Bar near Bradford. The operation related to information

:03:11. > :03:15.received about a criminal possession of a firearm and have been updated

:03:16. > :03:21.by the Chief Constable. While fatal shootings

:03:22. > :03:23.by police are rare, and Wales over the last decade

:03:24. > :03:27.and this is the first involving West Yorkshire Police

:03:28. > :03:29.since December 2010. With the investigation now

:03:30. > :03:31.in the hands of the Independent Police Complaints Commission,

:03:32. > :03:33.West Yorkshire Police says it would be inappropriate to make any

:03:34. > :03:39.further comment at this time. The M62 at Junction 24 finally

:03:40. > :03:41.reopened more than 24 hours after being closed during last

:03:42. > :03:50.night's dramatic events. Charlotte, what's been the reaction

:03:51. > :04:03.from Yassar Yaqub's family? They released a statement through

:04:04. > :04:05.their lawyer today and said they were shocked and distraught at his

:04:06. > :04:13.death. Throughout the afternoon, we saw relatives and friends deliver

:04:14. > :04:17.flowers and cards to his house. There were a lot of tribute and

:04:18. > :04:20.social media. One post said, you were no angel but you were one of

:04:21. > :04:26.the good guys and didn't deserve this. We also found out today that

:04:27. > :04:30.Yassar Yaqub was charged with attempted murder and possessing

:04:31. > :04:36.firearms six years ago. We must stress he was found not guilty of

:04:37. > :04:39.those charges. Another development tonight is there has been one

:04:40. > :04:48.peaceful protest in connection with last night's shooting. The group

:04:49. > :04:54.held up banners in Leeds Road in Bradford city centre. Traffic was

:04:55. > :05:00.diverted. A postmortem examination will be taking place and expect more

:05:01. > :05:02.details in the next few days about what actually happened here.

:05:03. > :05:06.The police maintain it's always a last resort and they only shoot

:05:07. > :05:14.when they believe they - or other members of the public -

:05:15. > :05:19.Our home affairs correspondent Spencer Stokes has been speaking

:05:20. > :05:21.to a former firearms commander here in West Yorkshire

:05:22. > :05:24.and he started by asking why firearms officers might have been

:05:25. > :05:27.At the initial planning, assessing the risk of the operation,

:05:28. > :05:30.the danger posed to police or the public and at the very early

:05:31. > :05:33.stages, it is decided by their officers need to be armed

:05:34. > :05:42.How quickly do those decisions have to be made by the officers?

:05:43. > :05:49.A set of circumstances will present themselves in front of the officers,

:05:50. > :05:53.either where and when to stop a vehicle, and something will then

:05:54. > :05:55.occur and the officers probably have about half a second to make

:05:56. > :06:02.a decision as to whether to fire a weapon or not.

:06:03. > :06:05.What happens to the officers who were involved in last

:06:06. > :06:12.These matters now will be dissected over months and it's important

:06:13. > :06:16.to remember the officer had a fraction of a second to make

:06:17. > :06:20.a decision that is later analyse to the highest degree

:06:21. > :06:28.At its most extreme, it is possibly who pulls the trigger

:06:29. > :06:40.Quick decisions have to be made and these are reflected over

:06:41. > :06:42.a long period of time, but the officers have probably less

:06:43. > :06:45.than a second to make what is a life-changing

:06:46. > :06:49.and perhaps career-changing decision.

:06:50. > :06:52.A new Bradford club looks set to compete in the rugby league

:06:53. > :06:54.Championship in the forthcoming season, but they'll start

:06:55. > :06:57.It's after four-time Super League champions Bradford Bulls

:06:58. > :07:04.The administrators hoped to have a deal agreed by Christmas,

:07:05. > :07:06.but turned down a bid from a consortium last week.

:07:07. > :07:11.We thought after last time it was going to take the club forward.

:07:12. > :07:16.Probably chased the dream too much and not had the finance

:07:17. > :07:22.The previous owner invested a lot of money, as did the one before,

:07:23. > :07:25.but obviously not enough, and the club has suffered and not

:07:26. > :07:28.winning the million-pound game a couple of years ago was probably

:07:29. > :07:32.Rail bosses say the pioneering Tram Train project in

:07:33. > :07:36.South Yorkshire won't be happening until the middle of next year.

:07:37. > :07:38.The Transport Minister says the pilot has taken

:07:39. > :07:47.By the light of the winter sun, a transport revolution

:07:48. > :07:51.is taking shape, albeit much slower than expected.

:07:52. > :07:53.At the terminus, just like elsewhere along this new line,

:07:54. > :08:01.The platform is half-built, the rails have been laid but by now

:08:02. > :08:04.I should be able to step off a tram train and head to the shopping

:08:05. > :08:06.centre over there but I can't because there have been delays.

:08:07. > :08:09.They've been caused by problems with how to build the overhead line

:08:10. > :08:16.These masts will carry the power lines.

:08:17. > :08:19.The trams work at one voltage but if one day mainline electric

:08:20. > :08:21.trains need to run here, their power requirements

:08:22. > :08:27.To avoid spending money on something that could become redundant,

:08:28. > :08:30.new ideas are being tried out and that's what's taking time.

:08:31. > :08:33.There's a pilot and solutions that are needed for this project.

:08:34. > :08:38.That's why we've got a view to come up with new solutions

:08:39. > :08:42.and we have a plan to implement it over the next few months and years.

:08:43. > :08:46.The new vehicles for the project were built in Spain and have now

:08:47. > :08:51.There are seven in total and they will supplement

:08:52. > :08:55.the existing tram fleet but the tram trains will mean, for the many first

:08:56. > :08:59.time, this service can break out of Sheffield.

:09:00. > :09:08.They will run on conventional tram tracks and switch to train mode

:09:09. > :09:10.and run on an upgraded line out to Rotherham.

:09:11. > :09:12.It promises what is called the seamless commute with other

:09:13. > :09:16.It has taken far too long to deliver and I'm extremely frustrated by it.

:09:17. > :09:20.We have seen a lot of new vehicles arrive and are being tested now

:09:21. > :09:23.and Network Rail are busy building the infrastructure but we have been

:09:24. > :09:26.talking about this project in Yorkshire for a long time and I'm

:09:27. > :09:28.looking forward for when it finally opens and we get people

:09:29. > :09:54.It's going to be great whether to walk off mince pies!

:09:55. > :10:02.Cold and windy along the coast but plenty of sunshine. Very windy along

:10:03. > :10:05.the coast weather could be showers blown in on the breeze coming down

:10:06. > :10:09.from the north. High pressure is still dominating Thursday and

:10:10. > :10:14.Thursday looks like a cold day after a frosty start. At the moment, too

:10:15. > :10:23.much cloud and too much of the breeze. The cloud to be thick enough

:10:24. > :10:27.for showers and South Yorkshire later -- could be thick enough. Ease

:10:28. > :10:36.strong and gusty winds developing into tomorrow. Temperatures across

:10:37. > :10:40.North Yorkshire. Overnight cloud will burn away tomorrow, plenty of

:10:41. > :10:44.sunshine spreading down from the north. There could be quite a brisk

:10:45. > :10:49.wind along the coast, making it feel really quite warm and also blowing

:10:50. > :10:53.in a few potentially wintry showers. For most places, it will be a fine,

:10:54. > :10:57.crisp, winter 's day with temperatures up to six Celsius. A

:10:58. > :11:00.frosty start of the day on Thursday with temperatures starting below

:11:01. > :11:02.freezing so each of the day but a fine one. That's it from us. I'll

:11:03. > :11:12.milder later in the week. That is it from me but coming up next is the

:11:13. > :11:14.national picture. Good evening. But frost or not of frost, that is the

:11:15. > :11:15.weather question for
