:00:35. > :00:36.following the police shooting near Huddersfield on Monday.
:00:37. > :00:39.A post mortem showed that Yassar Yaqub was shot by a police
:00:40. > :00:42.officer after two vehicles were stopped near
:00:43. > :00:46.Meanwhile the Independent Police Complaints Commission,
:00:47. > :00:48.which is investigating the incident, is calling for more
:00:49. > :00:55.Tonight a man's been charged in relation to the incident which
:00:56. > :00:56.happened here at Ainley Top three days ago.
:00:57. > :00:59.30-year-old Moshin Amin from Dewsbury is facing firearms
:01:00. > :01:04.charges, relating to a loaded semiautomatic handgun,
:01:05. > :01:07.capable of firing nine millimetre ammunition.
:01:08. > :01:12.Two other men arrested at the same time have been
:01:13. > :01:17.Meanwhile earlier today a postmortem examination revealed that
:01:18. > :01:21.Yassar Yaqub died from gunshot wounds to the chest.
:01:22. > :01:24.He was shot by one West Yorkshire firearms officer.
:01:25. > :01:28.Investigators at the Independent Police Complaints Commission
:01:29. > :01:33.So far they have no footage of the incident and want
:01:34. > :01:38.The IPCC wants to reassure the community that the investigation
:01:39. > :01:43.will be thorough, detailed and independent.
:01:44. > :01:47.The dead man's parents want to know why their son was killed.
:01:48. > :01:50.Family and friends attended the mosque
:01:51. > :01:54.Some local people have spoken of Yassar Yaqub's
:01:55. > :02:00.He was not involved in anything, he has no convictions
:02:01. > :02:03.of anything whatsoever, no drug convictions, no firearms
:02:04. > :02:08.So he was not a bad lad in any way then?
:02:09. > :02:11.No, he was a very kind lad and he helped all
:02:12. > :02:13.communitiess, people around here, whatever race they were,
:02:14. > :02:19.He was shot in a planned operation when four unmarked
:02:20. > :02:21.police vehicles stopped two cars on a slip road off
:02:22. > :02:28.Mr Yaqub was in a white Audi and a non police issue firearm
:02:29. > :02:30.was found in the car which is now undergoing forensic tests.
:02:31. > :02:37.The police involved were not wearing body video cameras.
:02:38. > :02:40.Don't let's read into this something that is not there to read.
:02:41. > :02:44.This isn't America, it's not Chicago, and I get very irritated
:02:45. > :02:50.when a small minority would like to make it
:02:51. > :02:54.What we need here is a period of calm reflection.
:02:55. > :02:57.The funeral for Yassar Yaqub will be held at Crosland Moor mosque
:02:58. > :03:01.in Huddersfield tomorrow and the inquest into his death
:03:02. > :03:08.Meanwhile it's emerged that West Yorkshire has the highest crime
:03:09. > :03:14.Police figures analysed by Look North show that there's
:03:15. > :03:16.a growing trend of violent and serious crime in the region.
:03:17. > :03:19.They show that there were over 200,000 recorded crimes
:03:20. > :03:21.in West Yorkshire last year, and a quarter of these
:03:22. > :03:25.Now the crime rate for England and Wales stands at 68 crimes
:03:26. > :03:31.The crime rate in West Yorkshire is 90 crimes for every 1,000 people,
:03:32. > :03:34.and the offences being committed in our region are
:03:35. > :03:41.Our data journalist David Rhodes has this.
:03:42. > :03:45.West Yorkshire has a history of being the scene of some of
:03:46. > :03:49.It was the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, during the 1970s,
:03:50. > :03:53.whilst recently the murders of the teacher Anne Maguire in Leeds
:03:54. > :03:56.and the death of MP, Jo Cox in Birstall,
:03:57. > :03:59.are crimes which have captured the world's attention.
:04:00. > :04:03.We turn overseas to England now, that nation mourning
:04:04. > :04:07.Shot dead on the street, a case of gun violence, so rare there.
:04:08. > :04:10.She was a rising star in British politics.
:04:11. > :04:12.Clement Desmier was murdered in Bradford in 2012
:04:13. > :04:14.and the police found 70 different injuries on his body.
:04:15. > :04:24.Every serious crime leaves a huge impact on those left behind.
:04:25. > :04:26.At one point we were constantly looking over our shoulders, seeing
:04:27. > :04:29.if anyone was following us, thinking, or have they done it?
:04:30. > :04:36.It's changed absolutely everyone in the family.
:04:37. > :04:39.The nature of crime both locally and nationally is becoming
:04:40. > :04:43.more serious and in some cases more violent.
:04:44. > :04:47.That is because every crime recorded by the police is now being scored
:04:48. > :04:49.for severity so if you're caught with cannabis, that crime
:04:50. > :04:52.receives a low score, but possessing a gun or a weapon,
:04:53. > :04:57.And this is why West Yorkshire is statistically the crime
:04:58. > :05:02.The crimes being committed in this region are more severe.
:05:03. > :05:05.For academics there is a link between the regions level of
:05:06. > :05:07.poverty and the rising tally of serious offences.
:05:08. > :05:09.The level of violence crime more recently has started
:05:10. > :05:19.There is a body of evidence, an outstanding body of evidence,
:05:20. > :05:26.criminological evidence, that essentially always finds
:05:27. > :05:32.an association between deprivation and violent behaviour
:05:33. > :05:37.and so it is quite possible that in an increasingly unequal society
:05:38. > :05:39.we are seeing more violence as a result of that.
:05:40. > :05:41.West Yorkshire Police say although crime
:05:42. > :05:44.levels are rising, the chance of the victim of crime is still low.
:05:45. > :05:47.We do have a number of challenges in various communities across this
:05:48. > :05:50.large urban force but we need to also be mindful that we have lost
:05:51. > :05:54.?140 million out of our budget over the last few years and we have 2,000
:05:55. > :05:56.less officers and staff working for us.
:05:57. > :05:59.As demand increases the force says it is going to recruit an extra 500
:06:00. > :06:03.A transgender prisoner, who was on remand for attempted
:06:04. > :06:06.murder, has been found dead in a cell at Doncaster Prison.
:06:07. > :06:08.49-year-old Jenny Swift, who was previously known
:06:09. > :06:10.as Jonathan, was charged with attempting to murder
:06:11. > :06:15.An independent investigation will now be carried out
:06:16. > :06:22.by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.

:07:33. > :07:34.were away on holiday, without speaking to anyone
:07:35. > :07:39.Eckersall, on the right here in the hood, hadn't set out
:07:40. > :07:41.to demolish his home, his lawyer told the court,
:07:42. > :07:45.it had simply related from a lack of care.
:07:46. > :07:49.But that will be of little comfort to the Peels who now require
:07:50. > :07:55.listed building consent of their own to repair their property,
:07:56. > :07:57.which has damage to the tune of some ?10,000.
:07:58. > :07:59.For their neighbour, he may have avoided jail,
:08:00. > :08:04.mortgage payments on a house that no longer exists and he has been
:08:05. > :08:12.Campaigners hoping to save Scarborough's Futurist theatre have
