:00:32. > :00:35.It's been part of the Scarborough coastline since 1921,

:00:36. > :00:39.but today councillors voted to demolish the Futurist Theatre,

:00:40. > :00:44.Getting rid of the theatre has been described as leaving Scarborough

:00:45. > :00:49.And today there were lots of angry people in the council meeting.

:00:50. > :00:57.In its heyday, the Futurist played host to some of the biggest names

:00:58. > :01:02.Shirley Bassey, the Beatles and Ken Dodd have all performed.

:01:03. > :01:05.But today, councillors voted to demolish the iconic building,

:01:06. > :01:17.which has been part of Scarborough's seafront since the 1920s.

:01:18. > :01:19.More than 100 campaigners marched through the town ahead of today's

:01:20. > :01:22.meeting and one heckling protester had to be read from the balcony.

:01:23. > :01:31.When Scarborough Borough councillors voted in favour of demolition,

:01:32. > :01:35.it came as a bitter blow to those who'd fought to save it.

:01:36. > :01:43.Did you expect that it could have saved?

:01:44. > :01:55.It will cost ?4 million to knock the Futurist down and shore up

:01:56. > :01:58.The land will be made available for redevelopment,

:01:59. > :02:00.which some councillors believe is well overdue.

:02:01. > :02:05.People have come forward with ideas but in my opinion they have backed

:02:06. > :02:20.them up with a proper is this case to show that after any refurbishment

:02:21. > :02:24.has been done and reconfiguration has been carried out that it

:02:25. > :02:26.would provide a sustainable theatre to operate and make money

:02:27. > :02:30.The Futurist once played a huge part in Scarborough's summer season,

:02:31. > :02:32.attracting thousands of visitors, but in recent years audiences have

:02:33. > :02:36.Campaigners have fought long and hard to keep it open

:02:37. > :02:39.but today its fate was sealed and the curtain has finally

:02:40. > :02:47.An inquest has heard that a man who was found

:02:48. > :02:50.dead alongside his wife, who'd been stabbed, had been sent

:02:51. > :02:52.home from a mental health unit just days earlier.

:02:53. > :02:57.Martin Ashworth from Garforth died in a house fire in April 2014,

:02:58. > :03:01.just 13 days after he was discharged from the Becklin Centre in Leeds.

:03:02. > :03:04.His wife Susan suffered fatal stab wounds.

:03:05. > :03:07.Wakefield Coroner's Court heard Mr Ashworth was told by a nurse

:03:08. > :03:11.that he was being sent home because "they needed beds."

:03:12. > :03:18.The aftermath of the arson attack at a family home

:03:19. > :03:22.47-year-old Susan Ashworth was found in her burning house.

:03:23. > :03:28.Her husband Martin was pulled out of the fire but died a short

:03:29. > :03:34.An inquest heard today that Susan had been planning

:03:35. > :03:39.She told her mother that he emotionally abused her,

:03:40. > :03:45.trying to impose power and control over her and their two sons.

:03:46. > :03:48.Wakefield coroner's court was told that as their marriage deteriorated,

:03:49. > :03:52.Mr Ashworth tried to take his own life by poisoning himself with

:03:53. > :03:59.Following in his suicide attempt on the 22nd of March 2014,

:04:00. > :04:02.Martin Ashworth agreed to be admitted to the mental health unit

:04:03. > :04:09.Three days later, he was sectioned for 28 days under

:04:10. > :04:16.But only 22 days after that he was discharged.

:04:17. > :04:19.The inquest was told that family members were shocked by the decision

:04:20. > :04:24.to discharge Martin Ashworth early from the mental health unit.

:04:25. > :04:26.We heard that his wife Susan Ashworth felt she had no

:04:27. > :04:29.choice but to allow him home as he had nowhere to go.

:04:30. > :04:35.Martin's mother, Barbara Ashworth, said her son asked staff

:04:36. > :04:37.at the Becklin centre why he was being sent home

:04:38. > :04:45.13 days later, Martin was dead after a deliberate fire at his home,

:04:46. > :04:50.his wife Susan was found their stabbed to death.

:04:51. > :04:53.Susan Ashworth was described by her mother today has a wonderful,

:04:54. > :04:57.kind, loving person who was loved beyond measure.

:04:58. > :05:00.The inquest into the deaths continues.

:05:09. > :05:12.evening to protest at last week's fatal shooting of 28-year-old

:05:13. > :05:17.The demonstration brought traffic to a standstill

:05:18. > :05:20.in Birkby and on the main Huddersfield ring road.

:05:21. > :05:23.Police intervened to move protesters on before they gathered outside

:05:24. > :05:28.The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating events

:05:29. > :05:35.A gun was found in the footwell of the car in which Yaqub

:05:36. > :05:41.200 Tesco jobs are being cut in Barlborough near Chesterfield.

:05:42. > :05:44.The company is closing its distribution centre

:05:45. > :05:49.Tesco says it'll try and help employees get jobs elsewhere

:06:36. > :06:41.Barnsley's historic country house Cannon Hall has won

:06:42. > :06:44.a lottery grant of nearly ?3 million.

:06:45. > :06:47.The money will be used to restore the grounds,

:06:48. > :06:50.clean the lakes and repair the eighteenth century ice house.

:07:01. > :07:03.It's a Georgian gem, is Cannon Hall, a country house that any Jane Austen

:07:04. > :07:06.Although the house is lovingly restored, time has robbed

:07:07. > :07:10.the grounds and gardens of its attractive period features,

:07:11. > :07:12.like its greenhouse built in 1700 to grow pineapples

:07:13. > :07:19.This is part of Cannon Hall's glorious gardens and it is famous

:07:20. > :07:22.for the exotic fruit it used to grow, many of which we still have

:07:23. > :07:25.growing in the gardens, like our pear collection that goes

:07:26. > :07:33.But pineapples, in particular, Cannon Hall is famous for.

:07:34. > :07:36.It is hoped these gardens and greenhouses will be glorious

:07:37. > :07:40.once more thanks to ?3 million of lottery funding.

:07:41. > :07:43.The Hall is owned by Barnsley council but it is helped by a team

:07:44. > :07:48.of volunteers who work tirelessly here, even in the pouring rain.

:07:49. > :08:01.We have been fundraising for 40 years basically, a long time.

:08:02. > :08:06.We knew the lakes needed work doing, we knew the gardens needed a lot

:08:07. > :08:15.A once majestic Lake is a marked for restoration.

:08:16. > :08:18.It contains so much silt it needs to be dredged.

:08:19. > :08:21.Then visitors will be able to hire rowing boats and fishing equipment

:08:22. > :08:22.in a throwback to popular Georgian pastimes.

:08:23. > :08:25.Something I used to do as a boy was play in those lakes.

:08:26. > :08:28.I am not going to swim again in those lakes

:08:29. > :08:33.Visitors will be able to see things they have never seen here before,

:08:34. > :08:37.such as this ice house built in 1700.

:08:38. > :08:41.Long before refridgerators were invented, people would go down

:08:42. > :08:45.to the lake in the winter months, come back with ice and snow and pack

:08:46. > :08:49.it inside here so it could be used during the summer.

:08:50. > :08:53.For 300 years this home and its gardens were owned

:08:54. > :08:55.by the Spencer-Stanhope family but now this is a park

:08:56. > :08:58.for the people of Barnsley and they are determined to restore

:08:59. > :09:04.it to its Georgian splendour so that others can enjoy it

:09:05. > :09:21.A rowing boat on a late at Cannon Hall, that would be nice, wouldn't
