:00:08. > :00:09.Good evening and welcome to the late Look North.

:00:10. > :00:12.Tonight: Yorkshire's coastal communities are braced for a rough

:00:13. > :00:14.night as strong winds could produce a tidal surge and floods.

:00:15. > :00:16.And tributes for Norman Rimmington as a Barnsley footballing

:00:17. > :00:28.And some severe weather over the next 24 hours. I'll have the

:00:29. > :00:32.forecast shortly. Tonight, coastal resorts on the east

:00:33. > :00:34.coast are bracing themselves against bad weather as a tidal surge

:00:35. > :00:37.is predicted in the early There are currently six flood

:00:38. > :00:42.warnings in our region from Sandsend Residents there have

:00:43. > :00:48.spent the day putting out Our reporter Phil

:00:49. > :01:03.Bodmer joins us now. What can you tell us? Don't be

:01:04. > :01:07.fooled by this deceptive calm here where it's all tranquil because it

:01:08. > :01:13.could get a bit wild later tonight. This is what they've been doing.

:01:14. > :01:18.Shutters along the properties and businesses, traders battening down

:01:19. > :01:21.the hatches. This is the Lord Nelson pub, they've spent much of the

:01:22. > :01:28.afternoon preparing the property should the worst happen. There are

:01:29. > :01:33.two high tides, at one tomorrow morning and again in the afternoon.

:01:34. > :01:39.Let's talk to somebody with expertise in these matters, Mark, a

:01:40. > :01:46.seafarer the 28 years. How high are the waves? The waves around here

:01:47. > :01:50.tomorrow morning won't be so big in the morning, they will be a lot

:01:51. > :01:57.bigger in the afternoon with the wind and tide. Four to six metres.

:01:58. > :02:01.When you are sure, it's a lot worse. Conditions are bad at sea, but you

:02:02. > :02:07.say there's a high tide tomorrow morning at about 4:20am, but you're

:02:08. > :02:12.more concerned in the afternoon. In the morning you don't get the wind.

:02:13. > :02:16.That will come through in the next five or six hours. It will be

:02:17. > :02:21.tomorrow afternoon with the wind and the tide and the swell from Scotland

:02:22. > :02:26.that will be together and cause more devastation. You were here in 2013

:02:27. > :02:35.and it was bad then, do you think it will be as bad this time? I don't

:02:36. > :02:38.think it will be as bad but it will come over the road and cause some

:02:39. > :02:41.damage. It won't be as bad as 2013, I don't think. Not as long for the

:02:42. > :02:45.swell to build. The Million Pound Drop damage and a big clear up

:02:46. > :02:50.operation. We hope that won't happen again. A lot of traders will stay up

:02:51. > :02:56.overnight to keep an eye on things. I don't blame them. It won't be as

:02:57. > :03:01.bad in the morning as it will be in the afternoon. We'll keep an eye on

:03:02. > :03:06.that. The advice is to stay tuned to local forecasts, given I on the

:03:07. > :03:11.Environment Agency website BBC local radio is on there until 1am. York,

:03:12. > :03:15.Leeds and Sheffield are on air right now and there's more information

:03:16. > :03:19.tomorrow morning BBC breakfast. Thanks.

:03:20. > :03:22.Next tonight, momentum is building for one elected Mayor to serve

:03:23. > :03:25.Labour council leaders have indicated that they're now willing

:03:26. > :03:27.to consider the idea, which had previously

:03:28. > :03:30.It comes on the day that this year's elections

:03:31. > :03:32.for a South Yorkshire Mayor have been called off.

:03:33. > :03:34.Our correspondent Danni Hewson can explain.

:03:35. > :03:37.It's worked for London - having one figurehead to fight

:03:38. > :03:42.for the capital has brought added cash, investment and prosperity.

:03:43. > :03:46.The Government thinks it can work for the rest of the country.

:03:47. > :03:48.Six areas will vote for their own Mayor in May.

:03:49. > :03:53.These include the big cities of Manchester,

:03:54. > :03:59.The Mayors get to wrestle control of a whole load of power

:04:00. > :04:02.from Westminster and it comes with a pot of cash.

:04:03. > :04:07.?30 million a year - that's almost ?1 billion over 30 years.

:04:08. > :04:11.As it stands, Yorkshire won't get any.

:04:12. > :04:14.This deal would have secured that cash for South Yorkshire

:04:15. > :04:19.Now, after a legal challenge over Chesterfield's involvement, it's

:04:20. > :04:25.A prospect the Government doesn't relish.

:04:26. > :04:28.The Government is committed to that deal and I would encourage

:04:29. > :04:30.South Yorkshire leaders to remain committed to that deal.

:04:31. > :04:33.If they walk away from that deal, we will take the deal off the table

:04:34. > :04:36.and that means that that money and those powers will not be

:04:37. > :04:40.But today, supporters of a Yorkshire-wide Mayor seized

:04:41. > :04:43.on the delay and now Doncaster and Barnsley, along

:04:44. > :04:48.council leaders, have said they will consider the option.

:04:49. > :04:52.We're happy to take this forward, to talk about the opportunities,

:04:53. > :04:55.where we could work together, and see whether a Yorkshire-wide

:04:56. > :04:58.mayoral model could actually help us unlock the deals we have

:04:59. > :05:04.Many business leaders believe a single Yorkshire Mayor would pack

:05:05. > :05:08.a bigger punch and have blamed Labour leaders for stalling.

:05:09. > :05:10.But today, their national leader denies they've

:05:11. > :05:13.Look, they're passionately representing their areas

:05:14. > :05:17.That's what drives people in local government.

:05:18. > :05:21.They want to get the best deal for the areas they represent.

:05:22. > :05:24.But it's taken two years already and the stakes are high.

:05:25. > :05:26.The worry is, in a sense, that the difference,

:05:27. > :05:29.the divide between these places, particularly their ability

:05:30. > :05:32.to engage with Government, not only now but in the future,

:05:33. > :05:35.the worry is that the divides between those places that have

:05:36. > :05:37.those Mayors and those that don't will get ever starker

:05:38. > :05:42.So after months, indeed years, of saying no, why is it now possible

:05:43. > :05:48.that Yorkshire's political leaders could accept one regional Mayor?

:05:49. > :05:52.How would it work and who might it be?

:05:53. > :05:54.Questions which the Sunday Politics programme this weekend

:05:55. > :06:02.In other news, it's been confirmed that the leisure centres

:06:03. > :06:04.in Knottingley and Castleford will close on February 3rd.

:06:05. > :06:07.Wakefield District Council say the pools are in a dilapidated state

:06:08. > :06:11.Protesters campaigning to keep the pools open say older people

:06:12. > :06:15.and children will struggle to travel to the new centre, which will be

:06:16. > :06:21.The reopening of a West Yorkshire bridge damaged by the Boxing Day

:06:22. > :06:24.floods has been delayed by bad weather.

:06:25. > :06:27.Elland Bridge was due to reopen for cyclists and pedestrians

:06:28. > :06:30.by the end of this week, but rain and low temperatures

:06:31. > :06:33.have held up work to waterproof the structure.

:06:34. > :06:35.Calderdale Council say they're hopeful work will be

:06:36. > :06:43.We tend to use the word "legend" a little too easily these days,

:06:44. > :06:46.but today in Barnsley we said farewell to a genuine one.

:06:47. > :06:49.Norman Rimmington gave his life to Barnsley Football Club.

:06:50. > :06:52.He did everything at the place, from coach to kitman.

:06:53. > :06:58.Well, Harry would say "a good old boy".

:06:59. > :07:01.All Saints Church, Darton - packed to the rafters.

:07:02. > :07:05.And ahead, a perfect service to say farewell to Mr Barnsley.

:07:06. > :07:09.# Give me joy in my heart, keep me praising...

:07:10. > :07:11.And Mick McCarthy, Barnsley legend, needed all his strength

:07:12. > :07:19.As a young player, he gave me so much support,

:07:20. > :07:27.I think he always saw the best in people.

:07:28. > :07:34.And probably one of the reasons why I'm stood here and have had

:07:35. > :07:51.Looked after the players, did the washing, nursed

:07:52. > :08:05.I've known Norman all my life, and his family.

:08:06. > :08:10.You knew that on a match day, if you came, you saw

:08:11. > :08:12.Norman sat in his seat, everything was fine with the world

:08:13. > :08:16.Well done to the football club as well.

:08:17. > :08:20.They made it so special for his family in every way.

:08:21. > :08:25.Mick McCarthy, he had Mick as a boy, my dad, and he's always

:08:26. > :08:27.phoned my dad up even when he left Barnsley.

:08:28. > :08:36.Like people who have been to see him while he's been in the home,

:08:37. > :08:38.Danny Wilson came to see him at 7.30 one morning, before

:08:39. > :08:47.The match, we were invited after he died, just to see

:08:48. > :08:52.He's just been our dad, but when you see everybody

:08:53. > :08:58.The service itself, and the people that attended the service, speaks

:08:59. > :09:06.Farewell to Rimmo, never to be forgotten.

:09:07. > :09:24.Let's get an update on the weather. It will be stormy.

:09:25. > :09:29.Yes. Lots of talk about severe weather. There is still a weather

:09:30. > :09:32.warning in force, a yellow warning for snow mainly affecting West

:09:33. > :09:38.Yorkshire and South Yorkshire, creeping into North Yorkshire. This

:09:39. > :09:43.is the storm system that brought snow to southern parts. There are a

:09:44. > :09:48.couple of showers that will drift in from the east. Tonight, away from

:09:49. > :09:52.the snow, the main thing, look at this map, turning blue, a couple of

:09:53. > :10:00.showers across eastern coastal parts. Overnight, temperatures of 0

:10:01. > :10:06.Celsius. It will be cold in town let alone across rural parts. Widespread

:10:07. > :10:13.ice tomorrow morning. Eastern coast, severe gales and waves. It will not

:10:14. > :10:19.be a great day. We will see some bright, sunny weather. It will be

:10:20. > :10:25.cold again. Three or four Celsius. Very blustery. Tomorrow night, the

:10:26. > :10:30.map turns blue again. Fleeting showers from the north. We lose

:10:31. > :10:34.them, but we don't take a breather because we still have a lot of ice

:10:35. > :10:40.that will form tomorrow night into Saturday. Saturday will be another

:10:41. > :10:45.cold day. Another warning for snow on Saturday. A couple of showers

:10:46. > :10:51.turning heavy. On high ground. We are going to see some sunshine is

:10:52. > :10:56.well on Saturday. Sunday, some snow first thing is likely. It gets

:10:57. > :11:01.milder then. State you'd do the latest forecast and do stay safe.

:11:02. > :11:02.Time from the national forecast. Good night.

:11:03. > :11:03.note. If that's not your sort of thing, Sunday will be cloudier and

:11:04. > :11:13.milder. Good evening. It was such a mild

:11:14. > :11:19.December, wasn't it, but winter has arrived. Tomorrow morning, again,

:11:20. > :11:22.could be prising the wipers off the frozen windscreen. Yes, it's going

:11:23. > :11:23.to be cold tonight, whether
