:00:34. > :00:36.Tributes have been paid to a teenage girl who was found dead

:00:37. > :00:41.The girl - named locally as 16-year-old Leonne Weeks -

:00:42. > :00:44.was discovered on a path in Dinnington yesterday.

:00:45. > :00:46.An 18-year-old man is still being held by police

:00:47. > :00:51.after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

:00:52. > :00:56.This is Leonne Weeks, named locally as the girl who was found here.

:00:57. > :01:02.Police have yet to formally identify the body they discovered

:01:03. > :01:04.in an alleyway on Lordens Hill, but are working with the family

:01:05. > :01:09.of a teenage girl who had been reported missing.

:01:10. > :01:19.and, as you can see, we're working very, very hard

:01:20. > :01:21.to gather as much evidence as we can.

:01:22. > :01:23.Unfortunately, and it is difficult for the family,

:01:24. > :01:28.It's really, really important we do it methodically, in a slow manner.

:01:29. > :01:30.We have got specialist people that you can see,

:01:31. > :01:32.who are working and helping us do that.

:01:33. > :01:37.Through the day, those who knew Leonne have laid flowers here,

:01:38. > :01:39.and left messages paying tribute and social media.

:01:40. > :01:50.Police have been at the scene again today.

:01:51. > :01:55.and they've used a drone to capture aerial images of the site.

:01:56. > :01:57.The principal of Dinnington High Cchool,

:01:58. > :02:17.Police have arrested an 18-year-old man from the Dinnington area

:02:18. > :02:26.Let's get the latest on this story now -

:02:32. > :02:38.Any updates tonight? So far this evening, no updates from

:02:39. > :02:41.South Yorkshire Police. They have been at the scene again today they

:02:42. > :02:48.have also been conducting house-to-house enquiries as well and

:02:49. > :02:57.increasing patrols to reassure the divinity. They are questioning as a

:02:58. > :03:04.local 18-year-old man on suspicion of murder. They have do decide

:03:05. > :03:07.whether to charge him. They are appealing for anyone with any

:03:08. > :03:10.information to contact them. There are also the results of a postmortem

:03:11. > :03:14.information about her injuries and information about her injuries and

:03:15. > :03:18.how she died. There has been a barn raising page setup as well for the

:03:19. > :03:22.family, and we know that has raised around ?2000 so far. Thank you.

:03:23. > :03:24.A former heart surgeon at the Leeds General Infirmary

:03:25. > :03:27.has been found guilty of misconduct by a fitness to practice tribunal.

:03:28. > :03:30.In a case brought by the General Medical Council,

:03:31. > :03:32.Nihal Weerasena was shown to have committed various failings

:03:33. > :03:38.The tribunal will now decide whether his fitness

:03:39. > :03:46.Our health correspondent, Jamie Coulson, reports.

:03:47. > :03:47.For more than a decade, Nihal Weerasena,

:03:48. > :03:49.seen here on the left, operated and children and adults

:03:50. > :04:00.In March 2013, he agreed to stop operating while the trust

:04:01. > :04:01.began investigating concerns about his work.

:04:02. > :04:03.A referral to the General Medical Council followed.

:04:04. > :04:05.For the last week, a tribunal in Manchester has been

:04:06. > :04:09.hearing allegations that, between 2008 and 2012,

:04:10. > :04:11.there were various failings in the care Mr Weerasena gave

:04:12. > :04:14.to six children and one adult here the Leeds General Infirmary.

:04:15. > :04:22.Today, the Medical Practitioners' Tribunal Service found

:04:23. > :04:24.that eight out of 14 allegations of misconduct

:04:25. > :04:34.relating to six of the patients were proved.

:04:35. > :04:37.In one case, an expert witness said the surgeon was guilty

:04:38. > :04:39.of substandard practice for failing to decompress part of the heart

:04:40. > :04:43.In another, Mr Weerasena's typed operation notes made no reference

:04:44. > :04:48.to a major bleed and significant period of low blood pressure.

:04:49. > :04:50.The tribunal will now decide if Mr Weerasena's

:04:51. > :04:58.But the surgeon has faced accusations

:04:59. > :05:01.In 2015, Leeds Teaching hospitals apologised

:05:02. > :05:04.to the family of 11-year-old Bradley Brough,

:05:05. > :05:07.who died after undergoing three operations in two days.

:05:08. > :05:09.The trust later admitted errors were made

:05:10. > :05:15.His mother has previously spoken of her anguish.

:05:16. > :05:18.I get that people feel sorry for me and things like that.

:05:19. > :05:26.He couldn't wait for this operation to make him better,

:05:27. > :05:28.to make him be able to get on with his life.

:05:29. > :05:32.Mr Weerasena stop operating in Leeds just four days before

:05:33. > :05:34.the children's heart unit hit the headlines.

:05:35. > :05:37.First, campaigners won a High Court battle to keep the unit open

:05:38. > :05:43.but, within 24 hours, it had to stop operating in a row over death rates,

:05:44. > :05:46.in which the unit was eventually declared safe.

:05:47. > :05:48.Mr Weerasena has not been at the hearing,

:05:49. > :05:51.but sent a letter stating he was being made a scapegoat

:05:52. > :05:55.The Leeds Trust did not want to comment on his case,

:05:56. > :05:57.but said it had absolute faith in the staff

:05:58. > :06:05.The police investigation into the case of missing York

:06:06. > :06:08.woman Claudia Lawrence is being scaled down.

:06:09. > :06:13.disappeared on her way to work in March 2009.

:06:14. > :06:16.Police believe she was murdered but they've found no trace of her

:06:17. > :06:19.and no charges have ever been brought.

:06:20. > :06:23.Their review of the case has cost ?1 million.

:06:24. > :06:26.An inquest has ruled that a woman who was found stabbed to death

:06:27. > :06:28.in her burning home in Garforth was unlawfully killed.

:06:29. > :06:31.Susan Ashworth was discovered alongside

:06:32. > :06:38.Wakefield Coroners Court heard that days earlier he'd had been released

:06:39. > :06:40.from a mental health unit because they "needed beds".

:06:41. > :06:48.The coroner recorded an open verdict on his death.

:06:49. > :06:51.A West Yorkshire bridge which was severely damaged

:06:52. > :06:53.by the Boxing Day floods in 2015 has been reopened.

:06:54. > :06:55.Pedestrians and cyclists are now allowed to use Elland Bridge.

:06:56. > :06:58.It will re-open for cars later this month.

:06:59. > :07:03.Repairs have cost about ?5 million and taken more than a year.

:07:04. > :07:06.A pioneering scheme set up in Leeds to reduce the number of offenders

:07:07. > :07:12.returning to prison has been hailed as a huge success.

:07:13. > :07:15.New Wortley Offender Support Team was launched last summer

:07:16. > :07:18.and has dealt with 97 prisoners released form Armley.

:07:19. > :07:21.So far only three have returned to jail.

:07:22. > :07:27.Our home affairs correspondent, Spencer Stokes, reports.

:07:28. > :07:28.A fresh start for former prisoner Ian.

:07:29. > :07:32.he was released from Armley last August.

:07:33. > :07:38.I had no place to go, there was nothing for me

:07:39. > :07:43.you know what I mean, I had a purpose.

:07:44. > :07:45.I know it sounds stupid but I had a purpose -

:07:46. > :07:48.I had a job in there, I got paid for it.

:07:49. > :07:51.And I even, a couple of days before my release date,

:07:52. > :07:54.I was begging the governor if I could stay in there.

:07:55. > :07:58.In the past, Ian committed crime so he could go back to prison.

:07:59. > :08:03.A revolving door of release, reoffend, return to jail.

:08:04. > :08:08.thanks to New Wortley Offender Support Team,

:08:09. > :08:11.who have found him voluntary work in a local community centre.

:08:12. > :08:16.but spearheaded by another former prisoner,

:08:17. > :08:18.the scheme is helping to keep people out of jail.

:08:19. > :08:21.What is unique with our project is that we've got me myself

:08:22. > :08:23.as an ex-offender, and we've got other ex-offenders

:08:24. > :08:28.and we can see where people are coming from.

:08:29. > :08:36.the team have helped 97 former prisoners released from Armley.

:08:37. > :08:42.Whereas West Yorkshire's overall reoffending rate

:08:43. > :08:48.The next stage is to find ex-offenders work.

:08:49. > :08:51.Colin is one of the first to gain employment through the scheme,

:08:52. > :08:56.I've got a future, it's amazing, I love it.

:08:57. > :09:00.Just earning my money, there's no feeling like it.

:09:01. > :09:04.I can go and buy something from a shop now, when I've grafted,

:09:05. > :09:07.worked and earned the money, it's an amazing feeling.

:09:08. > :09:11.With this scheme, the release-reoffend cycle

:09:12. > :09:20.Because former prisoners have found a new role.

:09:21. > :09:22.Onto football and Barnsley were in FA Cup action tonight.
