:00:13. > :00:13.in Yorkshire going for cervical cancer screenings.

:00:14. > :00:16.More than a quarter of young women in the region still

:00:17. > :00:21.In 2009, 76% of women in Yorkshire aged 25 to 49 were screened.

:00:22. > :00:25.But six years later that had fallen to 73%.

:00:26. > :00:28.Ali Fortescue has met one woman with incurable cervical cancer who's

:00:29. > :00:33.campaigning to make more women aware of the dangers.

:00:34. > :00:36.Her family describe her as funny, a party girl just like

:00:37. > :00:41.But right now Liz's 30s aren't panning out as she had expected

:00:42. > :00:46.and this is a family putting on a brave face.

:00:47. > :00:50.She had a smear test when she was 25 but hasn't had one since.

:00:51. > :00:54.Now Liz has been diagnosed with incurable cervical cancer.

:00:55. > :00:59.I have days when I am down, but I just try to keep as positive

:01:00. > :01:08.For me, I am not one that will just sit and dwell,

:01:09. > :01:11.I have got to keep going as much as I can and do what

:01:12. > :01:16.Women aged between the ages of 25 and 49 should get a smear test

:01:17. > :01:21.Early diagnosis is key and could help prevent up to 75%

:01:22. > :01:29.I think some people think, it is not going to affect me or I am

:01:30. > :01:35.People kind of shy away from the screening but it is

:01:36. > :01:40.I think people build it up in their head and actually

:01:41. > :01:44.when you get the appointment booked, turn up and have it done and I think

:01:45. > :01:49.people will walk away and think, actually that wasn't that bad.

:01:50. > :01:52.But Liz's fighting spirit hasn't failed her now.

:01:53. > :01:54.She is using her story to raise awareness with

:01:55. > :01:58.She will be auctioning a selection of goodies including a signed

:01:59. > :02:02.Kell Brook boxing glove and a Jess Ennis Team GB vest.

:02:03. > :02:04.She says if she persuades even one person to take

:02:05. > :02:12.Robert Music is from the charity Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.

:02:13. > :02:16.I asked him how important smear tests are.

:02:17. > :02:20.Cervical screening is an incredibly important test.

:02:21. > :02:25.It it is estimated to save around 5,000 lives every year in the UK.

:02:26. > :02:28.However we are seeing the numbers of women attending screenings

:02:29. > :02:32.across the UK fall down year on year.

:02:33. > :02:34.It is hugely worrying because the test can take five

:02:35. > :02:42.It's not an appointment any of us look forward to but it is a quick

:02:43. > :02:47.The results could save a life so why are people not going forward

:02:48. > :02:56.Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust has been commissioned research so for younger

:02:57. > :03:01.women it is about embarrassment or worrying it may be painful

:03:02. > :03:04.or interestingly the fear of the results because they think

:03:05. > :03:06.is a test to find cancer rather than prevent cancer.

:03:07. > :03:11.In the older age group we are seeing numbers drop as well now.

:03:12. > :03:17.How do we encourage more women to come forward and get screened?

:03:18. > :03:21.There has to be a focus within each area or constituency to think

:03:22. > :03:24.about their communities and be very targeted in terms of what is going

:03:25. > :03:37.We would like to see a woman be able to be screened at any GP surgery.

:03:38. > :03:41.If there was a surgery near their work they could go

:03:42. > :03:43.there and be screened and have this wonderful life-saving test done

:03:44. > :03:46.and not worry about it for another three or five years depending

:03:47. > :03:54.That is a key part and something we want to see looked at.

:03:55. > :03:57.An 18-year-old man has been charged with the murder of teenager

:03:58. > :04:00.Her body was found in an alleyway off Lordens Hill

:04:01. > :04:04.Shea Peter Heeley, who also comes from Dinnington,

:04:05. > :04:07.will appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court tomorrow.

:04:49. > :04:50.There are 17 of these linocuts here in Barnsley,

:04:51. > :04:55.it's a bit of a coup for the Cooper Gallery and I have

:04:56. > :05:00.two people who can hopefully tell me more about Picasso.

:05:01. > :05:05.Natalie Murray from the gallery, this is a huge thing for the museum.
