:00:00. > :00:00.comes next? Join Good evening and welcome

:00:00. > :00:08.to the late Look North. Tonight: More than 200 claims

:00:09. > :00:10.for compensation over mining subsidence damage

:00:11. > :00:13.in a North Yorkshire village. And the new college that's training

:00:14. > :00:27.the workers who'll build Britain's A very changeable week expected

:00:28. > :00:34.across Yorkshire. Join me for the live updated week ahead forecast.

:00:35. > :00:36.Good evening. Residents in a North Yorkshire

:00:37. > :00:38.village say they feel ignored after mining work

:00:39. > :00:40.damaged their homes and businesses. People living in Hensall

:00:41. > :00:47.near Kellingley Colliery have seen huge cracks appearing

:00:48. > :00:49.in walls and ceilings. The Coal Authority is dealing

:00:50. > :01:00.with more than 200 claims. But although mining stopped

:01:01. > :01:03.at Kellingley in 2015, it's claimed This is one of the more

:01:04. > :01:07.sizeable cracks. Ten years ago, Angela

:01:08. > :01:09.built her dream home. She never imagined that so soon

:01:10. > :01:12.after moving in, the home she This is where we first

:01:13. > :01:18.noticed any damage. We were watching TV and bits

:01:19. > :01:21.of the ceiling started falling down. It has spread all along

:01:22. > :01:27.the front and over time it I am worried about the effect

:01:28. > :01:36.it's had on the value and I'm worried you do not know

:01:37. > :01:38.what is underneath you. There are drops in the

:01:39. > :01:41.ground all around you. You just wonder what is

:01:42. > :01:43.going on down there. This is an example of

:01:44. > :01:45.yet another house that has been damaged by that

:01:46. > :01:47.underground mining. You might not be able to see it

:01:48. > :01:51.but the floor is tilting down to If you look at this bedroom,

:01:52. > :01:57.you do not need to open the door or push it because it

:01:58. > :01:59.opens automatically. The door frame is tilting down

:02:00. > :02:02.to one side as well. This bed - the owners have had

:02:03. > :02:05.to put some books under it because the bed head was

:02:06. > :02:07.falling so far down. The radiator fell off

:02:08. > :02:12.in the middle of the night. Life is miserable for

:02:13. > :02:15.the people living here. These are not the only

:02:16. > :02:18.properties damage. Harold runs a group

:02:19. > :02:20.that helps villagers. He has received hundreds

:02:21. > :02:27.of complaints and says the Coal Authority have been

:02:28. > :02:29.carrying out substandard repairs. Everybody in previous regions have

:02:30. > :02:34.been treated far better. We feel we are at the end

:02:35. > :02:37.of the process and have been Kellingley was the last

:02:38. > :02:43.coal mine to close and Hensall will be

:02:44. > :02:46.one of the last villagers to deal For some, the damage

:02:47. > :02:53.was too much to bear. Hazel and Frank have lived

:02:54. > :02:56.in the village for nearly 50 years. When you went upstairs, you thought

:02:57. > :03:05.you were going to go down and come back through a hole rather

:03:06. > :03:08.than down the stairs. We were not getting

:03:09. > :03:11.anywhere with UK Coal. We were getting the

:03:12. > :03:13.wrong answers to the It broke our hearts

:03:14. > :03:21.to leave that house. Hazel and Frank are are now

:03:22. > :03:23.enjoying their retirement in a new home but for many, this ordeal

:03:24. > :03:29.is just getting started. Well, Ali is at Kellingley

:03:30. > :03:31.Colliery tonight. Mining stopped there a while ago

:03:32. > :03:46.but the problems continue. Yes, it shut back into thousand and

:03:47. > :03:50.15p and then it has been the coal authority that have been dealing

:03:51. > :03:58.with all of the complaints. In a statement they told us they have had

:03:59. > :04:03.more than 260 claims fire. There are around 340 homes in the area. That

:04:04. > :04:08.is the majority of people living here. Experts are working closely

:04:09. > :04:13.with locals and they have spent more than ?1 million settling claims in

:04:14. > :04:17.the area. They can only carry out repairs when they know that coal

:04:18. > :04:21.mining subsidence will cause no further damage. That may be some

:04:22. > :04:23.comfort but many say they are not happy with how this has been dealt

:04:24. > :04:26.with so far. Thank you. A state of the art

:04:27. > :04:29.college in Doncaster - that will train hundreds

:04:30. > :04:32.of engineers to build HS2 - We're told the National College

:04:33. > :04:36.for High Speed Rail will be a world leader

:04:37. > :04:39.when it opens its doors Look North and the

:04:40. > :04:41.Transport Minister But it all comes as Doncaster

:04:42. > :04:46.Council fights plans to route We're inching closer

:04:47. > :04:52.and closer to HS2. The line from London to

:04:53. > :04:54.Birmingham should get But in Doncaster, they

:04:55. > :04:58.are ready and waiting. This is the first bit

:04:59. > :05:03.of high-speed rail track that has been laid in South Yorkshire,

:05:04. > :05:06.and unusually when we are talking arguments about where

:05:07. > :05:10.it's being placed. It's inside the engine shed

:05:11. > :05:15.of Doncaster's new ?25 million It will open in September,

:05:16. > :05:18.training up apprentices They will even have a real

:05:19. > :05:24.high-speed train to work on. That is the first bit of high-speed

:05:25. > :05:27.track in the country that you have In September,

:05:28. > :05:31.we will be opening The hard hats were out today

:05:32. > :05:36.because the rail minister and Harrogate MP Andrew Jones

:05:37. > :05:37.was on site, seeing the college and taking

:05:38. > :05:40.some photos with Doncaster Council. Doncaster is showing

:05:41. > :05:42.off the college. It is all smiles but it is awkward

:05:43. > :05:45.because although they love having the college,

:05:46. > :05:48.it doesn't look like the high-speed rail route

:05:49. > :05:50.is At the moment, it goes

:05:51. > :05:54.straight through a That is still being decided

:05:55. > :06:03.on an Doncaster Council says it reserves the right to love HS2

:06:04. > :06:07.and what it's doing for the town but hate the actual

:06:08. > :06:13.squiggles on the map. It is only the route that's

:06:14. > :06:16.planned that we don't like. We have always

:06:17. > :06:18.been supportive of HS2. We know what it can bring

:06:19. > :06:20.in terms of jobs, growth. There is still a discussion

:06:21. > :06:24.to be had on the HS2 It will still be running

:06:25. > :06:30.through until the 9th of March. No decisions are made yet

:06:31. > :06:33.but we want people all around In other parts of the route,

:06:34. > :06:38.we have changed our minds, because of these

:06:39. > :06:41.local consultations. We are getting royal

:06:42. > :06:43.assent for phase one Will be ever get that agreement

:06:44. > :06:46.for the go-ahead for We all know where the high

:06:47. > :06:54.speed college will be. The home of the Flying Scotsman

:06:55. > :06:57.will keep on rolling out rail Meanwhile, a report published today

:06:58. > :07:08.by an influential research group, suggests Yorkshire is actually

:07:09. > :07:10.going to miss out on millions of pounds of funding

:07:11. > :07:12.for transport in future. The Institute for Public

:07:13. > :07:14.Policy Research says the North West of England is set

:07:15. > :07:17.to receive four times more money than Yorkshire

:07:18. > :07:20.for its transport networks. I don't think there is

:07:21. > :07:22.an east/west divide. What we are seeing

:07:23. > :07:24.is certain projects advanced of those in Yorkshire

:07:25. > :07:30.and Humber and the north-east. What we need to see

:07:31. > :07:33.now is investment on both sides of the Pennines,

:07:34. > :07:35.to make sure these two fantastic cities

:07:36. > :07:37.of Manchester and Leeds can connect

:07:38. > :07:46.together and the other amazing places in between,

:07:47. > :07:48.so that we have a really Police are investigating

:07:49. > :07:54.what they call 'large scale disorder Around 40 people were

:07:55. > :07:59.involved in a brawl at Elland Road's Centenary Pavilion

:08:00. > :08:00.on Saturday night. Three were taken to hospital

:08:01. > :08:02.with minor injuries. The event was hosted

:08:03. > :08:05.by the Golden Gloves Boxing League, who have apologised

:08:06. > :08:06.via their Facebook page for cancelling the show's main

:08:07. > :08:08.event, saying police A man from Leeds who bought

:08:09. > :08:19.a battered old Porsche has now discovered that it actually

:08:20. > :08:22.used to belong to one Raj Sedha paid ?2000

:08:23. > :08:25.for the 928 model and planned But, after his wife spotted

:08:26. > :08:31.George Harrison's name in the log book, he began to restore the rare

:08:32. > :08:34.car and is now hoping it will fetch at least ten

:08:35. > :08:37.times as much at auction. She came out and she said,

:08:38. > :08:39.don't touch that car. Is that the guy

:08:40. > :08:44.I bought the car off? She went, no, it belonged

:08:45. > :08:48.to George Harrison. We're hoping it will do

:08:49. > :09:01.between 20 and 30,000. Again, cars owned by the Beatles

:09:02. > :09:03.have done a lot more. With this being quite a rare car,

:09:04. > :09:19.a Porsche 928, a collecable car, Amazing. Somebody there has the

:09:20. > :09:24.ticket to ride. Let's have a look at the headline for the next 24 hours.

:09:25. > :09:29.The jet stream is getting its act together and a disturbance coming

:09:30. > :09:38.through on. It could quite disruptive. We should have to watch

:09:39. > :09:44.the cumulative rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. It comes in on

:09:45. > :09:51.Wednesday night and into Thursday. If that is correct, with speeds in

:09:52. > :09:56.excess of 70 mph, heavy rain. Tomorrow looks a lovely day. Sunny

:09:57. > :10:01.spells and rain letter on into the evening and overnight. Very nice out

:10:02. > :10:05.there at the moment and the wind is beginning to ease down. Patchy rain

:10:06. > :10:11.in the south. Elsewhere, temperatures down to four or five

:10:12. > :10:16.Celsius. Tuesday morning, very nice in north and west Yorkshire. Lots of

:10:17. > :10:20.sunshine around. The good cloud for South Yorkshire. A nice day until

:10:21. > :10:26.the cloud increases. We will see some rain coming in from the west

:10:27. > :10:34.later in the afternoon. Temperatures not bad, almost springlike. It turns

:10:35. > :10:39.wet from the west on Tuesday evening. There we are. The rain

:10:40. > :10:43.comes in and quite a bit of rainfall across the Pennines is that rain

:10:44. > :10:51.continues to push in further east and less in the way of rainfall. It

:10:52. > :10:55.will still be raining on Wednesday. The wet start. Wednesday will

:10:56. > :10:59.improve through the morning. Sunshine on Wednesday afternoon but

:11:00. > :11:01.possibly warnings will be placed in force for Thursday. Some disturbed

:11:02. > :11:14.weather on the way. That is it As you have just seen, after a day

:11:15. > :11:16.in which some of you have been shedding the layers, you will be

:11:17. > :11:20.putting them back on for the rest of this week. Big changes ahead, all

:11:21. > :11:25.down to where the air has been coming from. Today, it originated in

:11:26. > :11:28.the Caribbean, hence the name tropical maritime air. Temperatures

:11:29. > :11:34.peaked at 18 degrees. But later this week, the winds go to the

:11:35. > :11:39.north-west, a different source, polar maritime air. Still over the

:11:40. > :11:42.sea, but from a colder place, so temperatures will struggle. Bringing

:11:43. > :11:47.about that change, a strengthening jet stream. At the moment, we still

:11:48. > :11:53.have tropical maritime air with us across southern parts of the UK.

:11:54. > :11:54.With it, lots of cloud. Moisture across parts of Wales,
