:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to the late Look North.

:00:00. > :00:09.The calm before Storm Doris - we report from one of Yorkshire's

:00:10. > :00:12.windiest communities as residents get ready.

:00:13. > :00:14.And hand them in - police in West Yorkshire hold

:00:15. > :00:27.And with the very latest on the rise in knife and gun crime.

:00:28. > :00:31.And with the very latest on the Storm Doris, Amber warnings in

:00:32. > :00:32.place, where were the storm -- strongest winds be? John F Kelly

:00:33. > :00:37.updated forecast. Yorkshire is bracing itself

:00:38. > :00:39.for disruption tomorrow with predicted gusts of between 60

:00:40. > :00:43.and 80mph in some areas, South Yorkshire and North

:00:44. > :00:48.Nottinghamshire could see some Ali Fortescue has been to one

:00:49. > :00:53.of the region's windiest corners Brace yourself, a storm is coming -

:00:54. > :00:59.that's the big warning tonight. And Cassie is no

:01:00. > :01:04.stranger to bad weather. Tomorrow, her pub in the sleepy

:01:05. > :01:07.village of High Bradfield We're really high up here,

:01:08. > :01:18.at the top of the hill. It hits us from the back and we do

:01:19. > :01:21.get hit really badly. The back gets hit really badly,

:01:22. > :01:24.so we end up the tables We just stack them all

:01:25. > :01:27.to one side, really. Back in January, the weather

:01:28. > :01:31.station in the village recorded winds of more

:01:32. > :01:33.than 90mph. Police across the county are urging

:01:34. > :01:39.people to stay inside. The advice from West

:01:40. > :01:41.Yorkshire Fire Service, And Highways England have issued

:01:42. > :01:46.a severe weather warning. We really encourage drivers

:01:47. > :01:48.to check the conditions before they set out,

:01:49. > :01:51.plan their route, make use of the Traffic England website

:01:52. > :01:53.as well as our social Pay attention to any information

:01:54. > :02:01.and speed restrictions that's given on the motorway signs and signals

:02:02. > :02:03.as they're travelling. Back in the pub, punters

:02:04. > :02:06.are getting prepared. I'm a bit worried about crashing

:02:07. > :02:11.trees and stuff like that. I've got a chocolate brownie

:02:12. > :02:19.business, so I'll be delivering tomorrow,

:02:20. > :02:21.up to Bradfield, to a few I work on the seventh floor

:02:22. > :02:28.of a building in Sheffield, so if it's a bit windy and really

:02:29. > :02:32.blowing up there, so I'm just a bit afraid if it blows about,

:02:33. > :02:34.anything like that. So for now, everyone's safe

:02:35. > :02:37.and warm in this cosy pub. I've just seen the last people out

:02:38. > :02:39.here in High Bradfield tying down their bins,

:02:40. > :02:41.getting ready for tomorrow. Everyone's braced,

:02:42. > :02:56.everyone's prepared, Paul is with us now. Where are the

:02:57. > :03:00.strongest winds likely to be? There's some uncertainty, because

:03:01. > :03:12.this is still developing off the coast of Ireland --. Unlike last

:03:13. > :03:16.time, there were gusts of 90mph in high Bradfield, this time the

:03:17. > :03:21.strongest gusts may be in more populated areas, in the Pennines.

:03:22. > :03:25.When you add in the fact this is going to happen tomorrow afternoon

:03:26. > :03:28.as opposed to the last couple of storms, overnight, when everyone is

:03:29. > :03:31.in bed, there is potential for disruption.

:03:32. > :03:35.So we're expecting it in the afternoon, such a busy time, people

:03:36. > :03:42.are out and about? Definitely, on the A1(M) one, high

:03:43. > :03:46.sided vehicles, eastern parts of South Yorkshire into

:03:47. > :03:50.Nottinghamshire, there could be power line disruptions. So the

:03:51. > :03:55.recipes for disruption, the track is still to be pinned down, if that's

:03:56. > :03:59.more parts of North Yorkshire and more parts of North Yorkshire and

:04:00. > :04:04.South Yorkshire. It's brother to the south, South Yorkshire would escape.

:04:05. > :04:05.If there is disruption, we will keep our focus on it.

:04:06. > :04:07.Thank you, Paul. The number of people found carrying

:04:08. > :04:10.offensive weapons in West Yorkshire It's prompted West Yorkshire Police

:04:11. > :04:20.to hold a ten-day amnesty. Last time they did it,

:04:21. > :04:23.150 bladed weapons Here's our home affairs

:04:24. > :04:30.correspondent Spencer Stokes. Some of the weapons

:04:31. > :04:32.that have been seized by West Yorkshire Police

:04:33. > :04:34.on display at the It is a haul the force hopes

:04:35. > :04:39.will grow in the coming days, as they encourage people

:04:40. > :04:41.to hand in guns and knives Gun crime has risen in west

:04:42. > :04:46.Yorkshire, and Chris Wright has experienced the consequences

:04:47. > :04:50.at first-hand. He was shot in the stomach in a case

:04:51. > :04:54.of mistaken identity. I looked and I saw a big guy

:04:55. > :05:00.there with a gun, who, within a split second,

:05:01. > :05:02.had shot me from a distance And that was the start of a chain

:05:03. > :05:07.of events that had quite In the past weeks, there have been

:05:08. > :05:15.two notable killings - the shooting of 19-year-old

:05:16. > :05:19.Raheem Wilks in Harehills in Leeds and the stabbing of 16-year-old

:05:20. > :05:22.Irfan Wahid in the same area. It's hoped that recovering weapons

:05:23. > :05:28.will reduce incidents. There has been an increase,

:05:29. > :05:30.a notable increase over the last 12 months -

:05:31. > :05:32.we have had more discharges, yes. The worry is that that trend

:05:33. > :05:35.continues and you will see those discharge figures rise next year

:05:36. > :05:38.and the year after. That is why we are having

:05:39. > :05:40.this weapons surrender, to try to get any weaponry and any

:05:41. > :05:44.firearms and any knives off the streets and into the police,

:05:45. > :05:46.and then we can dispose Similar amnesties have recovered

:05:47. > :05:52.more than 200 illegal weapons, and this appeal for guns and knives

:05:53. > :06:01.will run for the next ten days. Police investigating the death

:06:02. > :06:03.of Jonathan Binns from Dewsbury have made further arrests in connection

:06:04. > :06:07.with the incident. The 32-year-old was found

:06:08. > :06:09.in the town on Friday night He was taken to hospital,

:06:10. > :06:14.but died shortly after. Nine local people have

:06:15. > :06:15.been arrested, All of them have been

:06:16. > :06:20.released on police bail Council tax in Leeds

:06:21. > :06:26.is to go up by almost 5%. The City Council agreed

:06:27. > :06:29.its budget after a five-hour The rise means council tax bills

:06:30. > :06:34.for those living in a typical family There'll also be cuts to services

:06:35. > :06:41.to help the council make savings The widower of murdered

:06:42. > :06:50.West Yorkshire MP Jo Cox says a huge weekend of events planned for June

:06:51. > :06:54.to mark the anniversary of her killing will be designed

:06:55. > :06:57.to carry forward her legacy of love, What's being called

:06:58. > :07:02.the Great Get Together will feature hundreds of street

:07:03. > :07:04.parties, picnics and Our correspondent John Cundy

:07:05. > :07:09.reports. Those who knew Jo Cox say she loved

:07:10. > :07:14.a party, and if the launch of The Great Get Together

:07:15. > :07:17.is anything to go by, the weekend of June the 17th

:07:18. > :07:22.and 18th really will be some party. Jo had this huge energy,

:07:23. > :07:24.this vitality, this love, and we didn't want the anniversary

:07:25. > :07:29.to be a mournful, solemn occasion. We wanted actually to be

:07:30. > :07:32.celebratory about the things that we have in common,

:07:33. > :07:34.and also we wanted it to bring Her killing was designed to divide

:07:35. > :07:39.us and we can think of no better response to that than actually

:07:40. > :07:42.a huge act of national unity. The outpouring of grief

:07:43. > :07:45.by the community at the time of Jo's fatal shooting in Birstall

:07:46. > :07:50.last summer is just testament to how much loved the MP

:07:51. > :07:53.and young mother was. Batley and Spen is a gathering

:07:54. > :07:55.of typically independent, no-nonsense, proud Yorkshire

:07:56. > :07:59.towns and villages. Now, to celebrate all that Jo held

:08:00. > :08:02.dear in community togetherness, the launch in one of Jo's

:08:03. > :08:04.favourite Indian restaurants of The Great Get Together,

:08:05. > :08:09.planned for June. Across Yorkshire, friends,

:08:10. > :08:14.neighbours, and even until-now strangers, are being invited to come

:08:15. > :08:17.outdoors to celebrate the kind Jo Cox's parents were present,

:08:18. > :08:23.and her family and friends say she would have been thrilled

:08:24. > :08:25.at the idea of What I don't want to do is end up

:08:26. > :08:30.in a world of self-pity, because I know it's the last thing

:08:31. > :08:32.Jo would want. So, what I can choose to do

:08:33. > :08:36.is try to make something positive out of such a horrendous situation,

:08:37. > :08:40.and I feel a kind of duty that we need to continue stuff

:08:41. > :08:42.that Jo started locally, and doing something

:08:43. > :08:46.like The Great Get Together is the perfect opportunity

:08:47. > :08:47.to do that. It would be what she would have

:08:48. > :08:50.wanted to achieve, you know, the community and the whole

:08:51. > :08:52.constituency coming together, You know, it embodies

:08:53. > :08:56.her maiden speech. We have got much more in common

:08:57. > :08:59.than what divides us. For the devoted mum and the caring

:09:00. > :09:03.MP who graced the Commons benches all too briefly, June will be

:09:04. > :09:08.the perfect time to remember Jo Cox, a year after she lost her life

:09:09. > :09:37.at the hands of a crazed gunman. We start with the Amber alert area.

:09:38. > :09:42.It is going past South Yorkshire into the north Midlands, but the

:09:43. > :09:49.track could alter. That's the broad area, we think. Here she is, coming

:09:50. > :09:52.off the coast of Northern Ireland. It's late morning into early

:09:53. > :09:59.afternoon, you see the isobars there. The strong winds transferring

:10:00. > :10:02.from the North Sea. This is the one front associated with that storm,

:10:03. > :10:08.bringing weather from the southwest. That train will pick up later

:10:09. > :10:13.tonight and we will see temperatures down to 4 degrees. Thursday is

:10:14. > :10:20.pretty cloudy, showers or a longer outbreaks of rain. It's mainly rain,

:10:21. > :10:24.so really quite heavy. Those strong winds kicked in through the course

:10:25. > :10:31.of the afternoon, particularly across parts of South Yorkshire.

:10:32. > :10:35.Still quite windy across West Yorkshire, less wind across North

:10:36. > :10:40.Yorkshire, though picking up later, highs of 10 degrees. Those winds

:10:41. > :10:45.transferring into the North Sea tomorrow evening, taking with it

:10:46. > :10:49.rain. There will be a number of showers following for the north west

:10:50. > :10:55.overnight, largely dying out by first light Friday morning. Friday

:10:56. > :10:59.looks and much better day, dry with sunshine, and Saturday and Sunday

:11:00. > :11:01.will be a reasonable amount of fine weather over the weekend. That is it

:11:02. > :11:06.from Charlotte and me, some sunshine around and light

:11:07. > :11:07.winds. For more on Doris and its impact, here is the national

:11:08. > :11:16.weather. Good evening, a rough patch weather

:11:17. > :11:20.on the way. Time to fasten your seat belt. A high wind warning from the

:11:21. > :11:21.Met office, an
