:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to the late Look North.

:00:00. > :00:00.Rallies in Pakistan attract hundreds of supporters for the Bradford

:00:07. > :00:21.And a brave start for Huddersfield in their FA Cup replay

:00:22. > :00:23.but Manchester City put a decisive end to their hopes.

:00:24. > :00:26.And things are turning pretty unsettled for some of us tonight.

:00:27. > :00:29.Outbreaks of rain and some snow especially on high ground.

:00:30. > :00:36.The Bradford man who travelled to Scotland to murder a shopkeeper

:00:37. > :00:38.has been sending messages from his prison cell

:00:39. > :00:42.to a growing number of hardline followers in Pakistan.

:00:43. > :00:44.Tanveer Ahmed is serving a life sentence for

:00:45. > :00:47.the murder of Asad Shah, who he accused of committing

:00:48. > :00:51.blasphemy, claiming he insulted the Prophet Muhammad.

:00:52. > :00:54.But, as our Pakistan correspondent Secunder Kermani reports,

:00:55. > :01:02.for some in Bradford, the comments have sparked anger.

:01:03. > :01:04.Outside the family home of Tanveer Ahmed,

:01:05. > :01:09.a 400-odd strong crowd is shouting slogans praising him.

:01:10. > :01:16.Last year, he travelled to Scotland from his home in Bradford

:01:17. > :01:21.to kill Asad Shah who was from the persecuted Ahmadi sect.

:01:22. > :01:23.Ahmed believed the Glasgow shopkeeper was

:01:24. > :01:27.committing blasphemy by claiming in online videos to be a prophet.

:01:28. > :01:32.For many here though, that killing was justified

:01:33. > :01:36.and they see Tanveer Ahmed as a hero.

:01:37. > :01:39.This gathering has been organised by a hardline but

:01:40. > :01:43.popular Pakistani cleric, Rizvi, who leads an anti-blasphemy

:01:44. > :01:51.Rizvi says he's been speaking to Tanveer Ahmed on the phone

:01:52. > :01:59.TRANSLATION: We are proud of the fact that he has killed.

:02:00. > :02:04.I am proud of the fact that we are in contact.

:02:05. > :02:06.But lots of Muslims would say one of the central

:02:07. > :02:09.characteristics of the Prophet - Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam -

:02:10. > :02:14.and that he forgave people who insulted him.

:02:15. > :02:16.Even if the Prophet forgave someone,

:02:17. > :02:20.that was because it was his personal right to do so.

:02:21. > :02:23.But his followers don't have that right to forgive someone

:02:24. > :02:28.The Scottish prison service has now put a stop to

:02:29. > :02:31.Tanveer Ahmed's audio messages but Rizvi

:02:32. > :02:35.says his reputation in Pakistan will continue to grow.

:02:36. > :02:37.In Bradford, the local Ahmedi Association

:02:38. > :02:41.has raised concern about support for his killing.

:02:42. > :02:44.The government of Pakistan has given a free hand

:02:45. > :02:48.to all the fanatics in that country who can openly preach

:02:49. > :02:53.hatred and incite violence against other communities.

:02:54. > :02:56.It's also shocking because Tanveer Ahmed travelled

:02:57. > :02:58.all the way from Bradford to Glasgow to kill

:02:59. > :03:03.an innocent person just because he did not agree with his beliefs.

:03:04. > :03:07.Tanveer Ahmed's crime was carried out in Britain

:03:08. > :03:09.but was inspired by ideas from Pakistan.

:03:10. > :03:19.Now it seems it's his turn to inspire others.

:03:20. > :03:22.Unlikely as it might seem, sometimes Yorkshire gets too much sun

:03:23. > :03:25.and the owners of solar panels find that they can't use

:03:26. > :03:27.all the electricity their panels produce.

:03:28. > :03:30.But now a village in the heart of one of Britain's former

:03:31. > :03:33.coalfields is hosting a ground-breaking trial

:03:34. > :03:36.which could solve this problem by storing the power for later.

:03:37. > :03:39.And, as our business correspondent Danni Hewson reports,

:03:40. > :03:42.it could pave the way for tens of thousands more homes

:03:43. > :03:49.Harnessing the power of light isn't just a green way of producing

:03:50. > :03:53.energy, it is also a popular way of keeping costs down.

:03:54. > :03:55.So when Elaine's council house provider

:03:56. > :03:58.offered to fit them for free, she jumped at the chance,

:03:59. > :04:04.happily changing the way she lived to make the most of solar power.

:04:05. > :04:05.If you're using your washing machine,

:04:06. > :04:11.So instead of having your evening meal at six o'clock,

:04:12. > :04:17.We shall be able to revert back to an evening meal

:04:18. > :04:22.That's because Elaine and 39 other council tenants

:04:23. > :04:24.are taking part in a new trial,

:04:25. > :04:28.one which looks to revolutionise the industry and make

:04:29. > :04:32.solar a better option for those whose main electricity consumption

:04:33. > :04:37.Typically, people aren't in during the day.

:04:38. > :04:40.There solar power are still producing energy, but normally that

:04:41. > :04:45.With our batteries, we can store up that energy and feed it back

:04:46. > :04:48.into the house in the evening when people are home,

:04:49. > :04:55.so it's all about maximising people's self-consumption.

:04:56. > :04:58.With the drop in feed-in tariffs, the chance to save more

:04:59. > :05:02.by using more will be appealing, particularly for private households

:05:03. > :05:06.looking to invest in solar like this estate.

:05:07. > :05:09.It's estimated each household saved about 40% off

:05:10. > :05:12.their electricity bills when the solar panels went up.

:05:13. > :05:15.With the new batteries, it's expected those

:05:16. > :05:23.Well, solar's big drawback has always been its inflexibility.

:05:24. > :05:26.When it's bright, there can be huge surges to the grid

:05:27. > :05:29.and in some places, they've had to limit the number

:05:30. > :05:34.This trial will monitor how effectively storage can smooth

:05:35. > :05:38.If we want to fit more solar panels in a street,

:05:39. > :05:41.what it means is that we might have to put

:05:42. > :05:42.in bigger cables and bigger transformers

:05:43. > :05:45.and that leads to additional cost, might lead to disruption

:05:46. > :05:49.And it might lead to extra time scales as the customer might

:05:50. > :05:53.have to wait, so if we can work differently in future and if we can

:05:54. > :05:56.work on this trial, and work out how many we can fit in the future

:05:57. > :05:59.without having to go through all those extra steps.

:06:00. > :06:02.It's just one of many energy trials underway

:06:03. > :06:09.and will be closely monitored over the next two years.

:06:10. > :06:11.In the day's other news, a 32-year-old man's been arrested

:06:12. > :06:14.on suspicion of the murder of a man in Sheffield.

:06:15. > :06:18.23-year-old Aseel Al-Essaie was fatally shot

:06:19. > :06:20.in the Upperthorpe area just over a week ago.

:06:21. > :06:22.A 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder

:06:23. > :06:26.and a 23-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an

:06:27. > :06:32.Police continue to appeal for witnesses.

:06:33. > :06:35.South Yorkshire Police have told a High Court judge

:06:36. > :06:38.they were "strong-armed" into giving a BBC reporter information

:06:39. > :06:41.about an investigation into Sir Cliff Richard.

:06:42. > :06:44.The singer has taken legal action against the Corporation

:06:45. > :06:46.and South Yorkshire Police for coverage of a raid

:06:47. > :06:58.A collection of medals including a Victoria Cross awarded

:06:59. > :07:01.to a Leeds soldier for his actions during the Battle of the Somme has

:07:02. > :07:04.sold at auction for more than ?280,000.

:07:05. > :07:07.George Sanders received the Victoria Cross,

:07:08. > :07:11.the highest possible award for gallantry, in 1916.

:07:12. > :07:14.His medals were bought by Lord Ashcroft and will go

:07:15. > :07:21.at the Imperial War Museum in London.

:07:22. > :07:24.Huddersfield's hopes of progressing to the quarter finals of the FA Cup

:07:25. > :07:27.have been decisively ended with a 5-1 defeat

:07:28. > :07:33.7,000 Town fans had travelled to the Etihad Stadium

:07:34. > :07:36.cheer on their team, but it was not to be.

:07:37. > :07:51.Mark, just take us to the match. Yes, Huddersfield Town went down 5-1

:07:52. > :07:56.here at the Ettie had Stadium against Manchester city and that

:07:57. > :08:01.gulf in class is hardly surprising when you look at where both clubs

:08:02. > :08:06.are. Man City are third in the Premier League. Huddersfield Town

:08:07. > :08:11.are third in the championship, plus David Wagner made nine changes to

:08:12. > :08:15.his team tonight. But it started brilliantly well for Huddersfield

:08:16. > :08:23.Town. They went ahead after six minutes. The former Manchester city

:08:24. > :08:27.academy player ran past Claudio Bravo and the 7200 fans went berserk

:08:28. > :08:34.with chants of "Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire! " For the away

:08:35. > :08:40.end. After sustained Manchester city pressure, Sally equalised. They

:08:41. > :08:47.conceded two more before half-time and two more after the break. City's

:08:48. > :08:58.final goal, to make it 5-1 to Manchester city, was scored by Ian

:08:59. > :09:02.at show in injury time. They must now go back on trying to get the

:09:03. > :09:05.Premier League. They have a really important championship fixture

:09:06. > :09:10.against the leaders, Newcastle United, at the John Smith Stadium on

:09:11. > :09:14.Saturday evening and I think the manager, the players and the fans

:09:15. > :09:18.will all agree that actually, that match against Newcastle on Saturday

:09:19. > :09:20.is far more important than today's exit in the FA Cup. Thank you very

:09:21. > :09:23.much. And news just in -

:09:24. > :09:25.congratulations to Harry who's been named Regional

:09:26. > :09:27.Presenter of the Year at the Royal Television

:09:28. > :09:31.Society awards. Great stuff. Time to check out the

:09:32. > :09:43.weather prospects now. For most of us, today wasn't too

:09:44. > :09:48.bad. Turning a little wintry overnight and we may see sleet or

:09:49. > :09:52.snow particularly on higher ground as rain, blustery winds as well. But

:09:53. > :09:55.look at these weather watchers. Whitby today, gorgeous sunshine. If

:09:56. > :10:01.I just overlay that on the satellite, you can see the clouds

:10:02. > :10:04.are thinning and breaking there. Further inland, West Yorkshire

:10:05. > :10:08.today, a lot bit cloudier and overnight, we will see more of that

:10:09. > :10:12.cloud piling in and here comes that rain. Turning quite readily to sleet

:10:13. > :10:17.or snow on higher ground. Some of this false to low levels as well.

:10:18. > :10:21.Lows of one or two Celsius. Tomorrow morning, as it is close to the south

:10:22. > :10:25.we could see ice forming across some parts of north Yorkshire for example

:10:26. > :10:33.where it will be mostly dry but as you can see, by the time we get to

:10:34. > :10:35.the afternoon, it looks a lot better. Things will brighten up.

:10:36. > :10:39.Sunny spells. Still quite breezy though. Eight or nine the high with

:10:40. > :10:42.just the odd shower. Tonight, largely dry, winds switching to be

:10:43. > :10:46.more southerly along comes another band of rain from the south in a

:10:47. > :10:51.second. There it is. And it is part of a weather front, if I just zoom

:10:52. > :10:55.out as reader pressure chart. Moving to the north, all tied up to this

:10:56. > :10:58.area of low pressure. That'll be with us on Saturday and Sunday is

:10:59. > :11:02.returning unsettled as we head to the weekend. I'll leave you with

:11:03. > :11:06.outlook. A whole load of 11 is. What does that mean? Maybe John Hammond

:11:07. > :11:11.will tell you.
