:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to the late Look North.

:00:00. > :00:07.Tonight: Researchers in Yorkshire find evidence that poor air quality

:00:08. > :00:12.doesn't just increase the risk of asthma , but can cause it.

:00:13. > :00:19.The murdered MP's family gather for an event in Yorkshire.

:00:20. > :00:21.Changeable week to come across Yorkshire, but there will be

:00:22. > :00:23.some decent days Tuesday and Thursday, for example.

:00:24. > :00:34.Join me for that week-ahead forecast.

:00:35. > :00:37.Scientists from the University of Leeds have found emissions

:00:38. > :00:39.from diesel vehicles don't just aggravate asthma,

:00:40. > :00:46.It's been revealed as the BBC launches "so I can breathe" -

:00:47. > :00:52.It's worrying for residents living in a number of our cities

:00:53. > :00:53.where pollution levels are particularly high.

:00:54. > :00:59.Our health correspondent, Jamie Coulson, reports.

:01:00. > :01:01.You can barely see it, but polluted air may be

:01:02. > :01:07.That's why scientists from Leeds and Barcelona are in Bradford,

:01:08. > :01:09.looking at the link between childhood asthma

:01:10. > :01:11.and the kind of pollution levels they've been measuring

:01:12. > :01:18.When you see it there, over 100,000, is that bad for us?

:01:19. > :01:21.That is bad for us because these are the particles that kind of go

:01:22. > :01:29.The other thing I notice about this is you only need a bus to go

:01:30. > :01:33.past and look at that - it jumps right up.

:01:34. > :01:35.Isaac has had asthma since he was two.

:01:36. > :01:37.You just think asthma is brought on by something else,

:01:38. > :01:42.Nobody's ever said to me that his asthma is linked to pollution.

:01:43. > :01:49.If somebody did tell me that, obviously I would be up in arms.

:01:50. > :01:50.At Leeds University, a researcher has fed

:01:51. > :01:59.This is an air pollution map in Bradford that shows the red

:02:00. > :02:02.as the highest and the blue as the lowest.

:02:03. > :02:04.You can overlay these maps with locations of interest,

:02:05. > :02:06.like all residents' addresses for children you have

:02:07. > :02:09.Effectively show how much risk someone is exposed to.

:02:10. > :02:16.The project is not yet complete, but early findings suggest emissions

:02:17. > :02:24.Nitrogen dioxide and black carbon are significantly linked.

:02:25. > :02:27.A child could not have got asthma if they were not

:02:28. > :02:34.exposed, and that has a lot of implications, obviously.

:02:35. > :02:35.The research is already proving useful.

:02:36. > :02:37.Bradford, along with West Yorkshire's other councils,

:02:38. > :02:40.have agreed a low emissions strategy and it includes turning some

:02:41. > :02:50.of the county's most polluted hotspots into clean air zones.

:02:51. > :02:52.And this bit makes particularly interesting reading.

:02:53. > :02:54.There's a commitment to convert the entire fleet

:02:55. > :02:56.of West Yorkshire buses to meet low emissions standards.

:02:57. > :02:58.The research from here in Bradford suggests that could prevent around

:02:59. > :03:05.No consolation for those already affected.

:03:06. > :03:08.If something could be done about it, that would be fantastic.

:03:09. > :03:17.The man charged with thwarting terrorist activity here in Yorkshire

:03:18. > :03:20.has called on people to act on their instincts and report

:03:21. > :03:24.anything they believe could be linked with a terror plot.

:03:25. > :03:27.This government video has been released to advise people

:03:28. > :03:31.on what to do if they suspect an attack is imminent.

:03:32. > :03:34.The head of the North East Counter Terror Unit told Look North he wants

:03:35. > :03:37.to root out all forms of radicalisation that

:03:38. > :03:43.could lead to an individual or a group carrying an attack.

:03:44. > :03:48.It is about the general public acting on their suspicions on things

:03:49. > :03:54.Is there a danger we create a climate of fear where everyone

:03:55. > :03:57.That's certainly not what we intend to do.

:03:58. > :04:00.There is a balance to be struck between the two.

:04:01. > :04:05.We would always welcome a call, well intended, from the public.

:04:06. > :04:09.Dr Afshin Shahi is a terrorism expert at Bradford University.

:04:10. > :04:13.I asked him if this type of campaign was necessary.

:04:14. > :04:17.There are less terrorism activities taking place in 2017

:04:18. > :04:25.But that doesn't mean terrorism is more irrelevant.

:04:26. > :04:27.When you think about it, actually, the number one security issue

:04:28. > :04:30.that is really facing everybody, not just Yorkshire but in the rest

:04:31. > :04:37.of the world, is environment, food security, water security.

:04:38. > :04:39.Although terrorism is very important and we all have

:04:40. > :04:43.to be vigilant about it, we should refrain from panicking.

:04:44. > :04:50.I don't see any harm to ask people to be vigilant,

:04:51. > :04:54.but we're dealing with a very multifaceted and

:04:55. > :04:59.Radicalisation is a very, very complex process.

:05:00. > :05:01.It requires a complex and multifaceted and more

:05:02. > :05:07.In my opinion, it would be very simplistic to only rely

:05:08. > :05:11.on the security establishment to resolve this problem.

:05:12. > :05:15.This is a sociological, cultural, economic and political problem

:05:16. > :05:17.and requires a more comprehensive approach if you really

:05:18. > :05:22.Is there a bigger risk of terrorism here in Yorkshire compared

:05:23. > :05:34.When you do look at the terrorism map of Britain, if I can use such

:05:35. > :05:37.a term, Yorkshire is not basically listed as a number one destination.

:05:38. > :05:41.There are more problematic areas in this country than Yorkshire.

:05:42. > :05:45.They are quite keen to stress that it's not just

:05:46. > :05:50.That's a change of course for them, isn't it?

:05:51. > :05:54.Islamic terrorism constitutes only a fraction of terrorism,

:05:55. > :05:57.the type of terrorism we are facing in the 21st century.

:05:58. > :06:01.If you genuinely want to address extremism, if you genuinely

:06:02. > :06:05.want to address terrorism, you need to have the wider picture

:06:06. > :06:07.and I think it's extremely unhelpful to only focus on one

:06:08. > :06:18.A man is being questioned for a second time over the murder

:06:19. > :06:22.of a West Yorkshire schoolgirl more than 50 years ago.

:06:23. > :06:27.14-year-old Elsie Frost was discovered stabbed to death

:06:28. > :06:31.confirmed they've re-arrested a 79-year-old man in Berkshire

:06:32. > :06:40.He's also being questioned about a separate offence

:06:41. > :06:44.Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a body

:06:45. > :06:49.Officers were called to York railway station in the early hours of this

:06:50. > :06:51.morning following reports of a man acting strangely,

:06:52. > :06:55.A body of a man in his 50s was discovered later

:06:56. > :06:59.A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident

:07:00. > :07:04.A fundraising event has been held in Cleckheaton in memory of Jo Cox,

:07:05. > :07:06.the Batley Spen MP who was murdered in her

:07:07. > :07:12.The Jo Cox Foundation was set up to raise funds

:07:13. > :07:16.Harry was there - he spoke to the chairman

:07:17. > :07:19.of Huddersfield Town, Dean Hoyle, and Jo's mum.

:07:20. > :07:23.We always ask ourselves, "What would Jo do?"

:07:24. > :07:25.Whatever we attend, whatever we go to, we say,

:07:26. > :07:33.And to look around tonight, see the lovely people

:07:34. > :07:39.from all sides of the community, she would have absolutely loved it.

:07:40. > :07:45.And hopefully we're carrying on Jo's legacy of more in common.

:07:46. > :07:48.That's what she truly believed, that we have more in common

:07:49. > :07:55.And hopefully we'll do Jo proud tonight.

:07:56. > :07:57.Dean, from your point of view, chairman of Huddersfield Town,

:07:58. > :08:00.why did you want to get yourself involved?

:08:01. > :08:06.But also with the football club being in the centre

:08:07. > :08:11.of the community, to bring cohesion together, we want to play our part.

:08:12. > :08:16.Football is a sport everybody likes and as a football club we can really

:08:17. > :08:21.We want to support a wonderful thing, but it's more a case

:08:22. > :08:25.of we know the family really well and we'd like to be a part of this.

:08:26. > :08:35.We've coped, I think, Harry, because as Kim has always said,

:08:36. > :08:39.you can shut yourself away and be miserable.

:08:40. > :08:44.Like I said before, what would Jo want us to do?

:08:45. > :08:48.And whatever we've done, we've done in Jo's name and we just

:08:49. > :08:51.hope she'd be proud of us, and I'm sure she will.

:08:52. > :08:58.You've done something right, lass, I'll tell you that.

:08:59. > :09:01.You've got a special challenge for our weather

:09:02. > :09:09.If Paul will wear this piece of art tonight,

:09:10. > :09:14.we'll make a big donation to the charity.

:09:15. > :09:19.If Paul wears this tonight, we'll make a big donation and happy days.

:09:20. > :09:21.Lovely to talk to you, enjoy the evening, thank you very

:09:22. > :09:37.As a big Bradford City fan, that would hurt.

:09:38. > :09:40.Did you do it? Have a look at this. Well done, you look slightly

:09:41. > :09:48.traumatised, but you're a good sport. I wore it for 30 seconds and

:09:49. > :09:48.to let Bradford City fans know, it's now in

:09:49. > :11:06.cool, it will be windy at times as well and still rather unsettled with

:11:07. > :11:09.some blustery showers around. That's the London forecast and now for the

:11:10. > :11:18.National forecast, over to Nick Miller.

:11:19. > :11:25.North-west France and Plymouth were miles apart weather-wise. This

:11:26. > :11:30.southern flank in north-west France there was a wind gusts of 120 mph

:11:31. > :11:33.which we just dodged. That area of low pressure continues to move

:11:34. > :11:37.quickly south-eastwards so that by tomorrow it is in Italy on its

:11:38. > :11:42.southern flank, stormy in Sardinia and around it strong winds blowing

:11:43. > :11:46.through south-east France. We've got a little bump in the ice bars with

:11:47. > :11:49.lighter winds, a brief ridge of high pressure, things briefly settled

:11:50. > :11:53.going into tomorrow, overnight there are some showers around moving

:11:54. > :11:57.through western Scotland and north-west England and the Midlands,

:11:58. > :11:59.clearing Wales, one or two in the east, the North Sea tip of high

:12:00. > :12:00.pressure, things briefly settled
