:00:23. > :00:35.Join me for a live, updated forecast shortly.

:00:36. > :00:38.Tonight, the lockdown which has kept politicians incarcerated

:00:39. > :00:41.in the Houses of Parliament is over, but a Yorkshire MP has described how

:00:42. > :00:43.she witnessed at close hand today's terror attack.

:00:44. > :00:47.Mary Creagh, the MP for Wakefield, told how events unfolded in front

:01:08. > :01:09.Mary Creagh, the Wakefield MP was on her way to vote

:01:10. > :01:12.as shots were fired, we now know by the police.

:01:13. > :01:14.She was in a tunnel leading to the voting chamber,

:01:15. > :01:19.I saw people running towards me and I was kind of like why

:01:20. > :01:24.are they coming this way when I'm going that way?

:01:25. > :01:31.Penny Mordaunt, just ran up and said their shots

:01:32. > :01:33.Penny Mordaunt, just ran up and said there's shots

:01:34. > :01:36.being fired, we need to get out of this place now.

:01:37. > :01:38.I turned round, the escalators were on the down, we

:01:39. > :01:43.So we had no choice but to go out of the revolving doors one at a time

:01:44. > :01:46.and that's when I sort of shouted to the security guard,

:01:47. > :01:49.you've got to open these doors, we've got to get out

:01:50. > :01:52.I'm now going to suspend the sitting of the House.

:01:53. > :01:54.This House is now suspended, but please wait here.

:01:55. > :01:56.MPs already in the chamber, found themselves locked

:01:57. > :01:58.in for their own safety, including Huddersfield's

:01:59. > :02:05.I've sent out some pictures just to reassure people know one's hurt,

:02:06. > :02:11.Parliament has been totally disrupted by this terrorist incident

:02:12. > :02:16.and we have got to make sure that we find out what

:02:17. > :02:23.But it wasn't just MPs, there were at least two large groups

:02:24. > :02:29.85 from Herring Thorpe Junior in Rotherham and another party from

:02:30. > :02:34.They put on social media that all were safe and well.

:02:35. > :02:36.Another party from Sheffield University found themselves locked

:02:37. > :02:40.into the neighbouring MPs' office complex.

:02:41. > :02:42.I'm not sure we're right in the middle of it,

:02:43. > :02:45.there are hundreds, probably thousands, we don't really know how

:02:46. > :02:48.The reaction of our students has been the reaction

:02:49. > :02:52.of everybody down here, to respond calmly and carefully

:02:53. > :02:56.to the excellent advice we have been receiving from all the security

:02:57. > :03:00.staff down here in the parliamentary estate about where to go,

:03:01. > :03:07.The security measures are still going on.

:03:08. > :03:10.MPs, all determined to get back to business as soon as possible.

:03:11. > :03:14.Protecting Parliament and MPs appears to have largely worked.

:03:15. > :03:20.But that's no comfort for the tragic casualties among the many thousands

:03:21. > :03:25.who come to see this historic building every single day.

:03:26. > :03:29.Well our reporter Heidi Tomlinson joins me now.

:03:30. > :03:42.We now know that five people died in this attack this afternoon. That

:03:43. > :03:47.includes the police officer on duty outside the houses of parliament,

:03:48. > :03:52.trying to protect the politicians. The number of people injured has

:03:53. > :03:56.gone up from 20 to 40. Some are in hospital critically injured, some

:03:57. > :04:00.are in a more stable condition. Quite a few of our political and is

:04:01. > :04:04.where in London today. They were released from the lockdown a couple

:04:05. > :04:10.of hours ago. They are all OK. We have had from a liberal back --

:04:11. > :04:13.Liberal Democrat peer. Right from me hearing

:04:14. > :04:16.the shouting and the gunshots, knowing there was something wrong,

:04:17. > :04:18.through to the police appearing and we were told to stay

:04:19. > :04:22.in our rooms and the armed police arrived, opened the doors and said

:04:23. > :04:25.we had to go to the Central Lobby where the police kept us

:04:26. > :04:29.safe and calm. It was eerie and it was a little bit

:04:30. > :04:33.surreal, but we did feel the police were keeping us safe

:04:34. > :04:46.and doing their jobs. What are the security forces

:04:47. > :04:50.focusing on the night? Extra alarmed officers are being deployed across

:04:51. > :04:58.London to reassure and protect people. An attack like this was

:04:59. > :05:09.anticipated and we are all aware of the threat to MPs, after Jo Cox was

:05:10. > :05:19.attacked and killed last year. My husband has treated saying, people

:05:20. > :05:21.will be wanting us to be frightened and fear, let's be neither.

:05:22. > :05:24.There's almost certainly a link to Isis group, we can't be sure,

:05:25. > :05:27.but they're determined to bring the war against them,

:05:28. > :05:29.which is being fought in Iraq and Syria, back to countries

:05:30. > :05:33.And this is the terrible result we are seeing this

:05:34. > :05:35.afternoon with people killed and people injured.

:05:36. > :05:40.The Metropolitan Police said the response will be ongoing for some

:05:41. > :05:43.time and it is important for them to gather the information and evidence

:05:44. > :05:49.they need and public safety is their top priority. Thank you very much.

:05:50. > :05:51.In other news, a shocking story of abuse.

:05:52. > :05:53.Young teenage girls in Sheffield were groomed by three brothers

:05:54. > :05:58.They were offered drink and drugs but then forced to have sex.

:05:59. > :06:00.Tonight four men and one woman have been convicted.

:06:01. > :06:03.South Yorkshire Police have praised the young people who were abused

:06:04. > :06:10.Four men and a woman, they are the latest faces

:06:11. > :06:15.In some cases their harrowing crimes date back more than a decade.

:06:16. > :06:18.Shane Whiteley, 30 years old, guilty of conspiracy to rape.

:06:19. > :06:22.His younger brother Matthew, guilty of the same charge.

:06:23. > :06:26.And another brother, Christopher, just 23 years old and convicted

:06:27. > :06:30.of three rapes of young people, sexual assault and

:06:31. > :06:38.And Amanda Spencer, a woman in her 20s, convicted of four counts

:06:39. > :06:46.She was already serving 12 years in prison after being convicted

:06:47. > :06:54.We want them to put their trust in us and they've done that.

:06:55. > :06:56.These very, very brave nine vulnerable women have come forward.

:06:57. > :07:01.They've given their evidence, they've told their very

:07:02. > :07:04.Not only that, the supporting family.

:07:05. > :07:07.We can't forget the effect on the family, mums,

:07:08. > :07:10.dads, their siblings, they've all come forward and told

:07:11. > :07:12.the story and that's what we'd encourage all victims

:07:13. > :07:16.Sentencing of those convicted is expected to take place

:07:17. > :07:21.Tom Ingall, BBC Look North, Sheffield.

:07:22. > :07:23.Headteachers in Yorkshire are warning that schools are facing

:07:24. > :07:26.huge cuts to their budgets, even though the government

:07:27. > :07:31.A consultation closes today on a new funding formula,

:07:32. > :07:34.which ministers say will distribute money in a fairer way

:07:35. > :07:40.Spending on Yorkshire schools will increase by nearly

:07:41. > :07:43.?30 million a year but, as Dave Edwards reports, teachers

:07:44. > :07:52.Across the region schools are struggling to make the sums add up.

:07:53. > :07:59.York high school is one of the winners under the government's

:08:00. > :08:03.It'll get about ?120,000 a year more, but that's

:08:04. > :08:07.There are more young people in school than there

:08:08. > :08:12.The costs of salaries and so on are higher

:08:13. > :08:16.than they've ever been before, so in real terms, a school like mine

:08:17. > :08:18.facing a court of between eight and 9% year on year,

:08:19. > :08:22.Here are just some of the things that Yorkshire schools have

:08:23. > :08:24.told me they have done or are considering

:08:25. > :08:30.Cutting jobs, increasing class sizes, asking parents to give money,

:08:31. > :08:36.shortening the school day or even introducing a four-day week.

:08:37. > :08:39.What type of character is he going to be?

:08:40. > :08:42.One part of the problem is that schools are having to pay more

:08:43. > :08:45.than ever for teachers' pensions and National Insurance out

:08:46. > :08:50.But another part of the problem is, in a sense, our fault.

:08:51. > :08:56.The increase we've seen throughout the 2000s is due quite largely

:08:57. > :09:03.So, women that were born in the 1960s and 1970s are having

:09:04. > :09:09.Where as in the past they would have been having those

:09:10. > :09:13.The government says schools are receiving more money than ever

:09:14. > :09:15.and the new formula will end inconsistencies between different

:09:16. > :09:20.But it doesn't matter how you divide up the cash,

:09:21. > :09:21.if, as teachers say, there isn't enough

:09:22. > :09:40.After dark day, thank goodness there is some good news with the weather.

:09:41. > :09:46.Increasingly sunny after what could be a cloudy, damp start. It will be

:09:47. > :09:51.windy as well. Low pressure in charge at the moment but a build of

:09:52. > :09:58.high pressure tomorrow and through the weekend. The sunshine will be

:09:59. > :10:02.pretty warm during Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.

:10:03. > :10:05.Chance of a bit of frost by night. Rain across northern areas. The

:10:06. > :10:09.weather front that brought the rain today will be pushed back westwards

:10:10. > :10:13.and we will be left with the odd spot of brain towards dawn with

:10:14. > :10:18.temperatures down to four or 5 degrees. Thursday, damp in places

:10:19. > :10:25.with an overhang of cloud but the cloud breaks up quickly and it will

:10:26. > :10:30.be sunny into Thursday afternoon with very little in the wake of

:10:31. > :10:40.cloud. A windy day, especially along the coast, top temperatures coming

:10:41. > :10:44.in at 11 or 12 degrees. A fine and sunny end to Thursday, Thursday

:10:45. > :10:50.night looks dry and clear. Might be patchy, low cloud towards the end of

:10:51. > :10:54.the night and first like Friday morning, but that will clear and

:10:55. > :10:59.Friday looks lovely day as the Saturday and Sunday. Some strong,

:11:00. > :11:01.Spring sunshine with Frost at night. That is it, I will leave you with

:11:02. > :11:03.the summary of tomorrow's
