:00:11. > :00:14.for 26 years after stealing drugs from an evidence store

:00:15. > :00:17.When officers raided the home of 55-year-old

:00:18. > :00:20.Keith Boots they found cocaine, heroin and cannabis

:00:21. > :00:28.Disgraced former police inspector Keith Boots.

:00:29. > :00:33.A senior officer with more than 20 years' service.

:00:34. > :00:36.He was stationed here at Trafalgar House in Bradford,

:00:37. > :00:40.responsible for the safe disposal of seized drugs.

:00:41. > :00:43.But instead, the 55-year-old was stealing

:00:44. > :00:47.and selling them back onto the streets.

:00:48. > :00:49.Colleagues raised concerns after noticing drugs

:00:50. > :00:52.missing from an evidence store at the police station.

:00:53. > :00:58.When police raided Keith Boots' home in December 2014,

:00:59. > :01:02.they discovered drugs with a street value of almost ?700,000

:01:03. > :01:08.and 11 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a washing machine.

:01:09. > :01:10.Prosecutors described Boots' home as a warehouse

:01:11. > :01:13.of controlled drugs were they found crack cocaine,

:01:14. > :01:20.During a three-month trial at Leeds Crown Court,

:01:21. > :01:32.Paul Greaney QC for the Crown told the jury...

:01:33. > :01:37.his honour Judge Geoffrey Marson QC told Keith Boots,

:01:38. > :01:40."You stole the drugs in order to put them back on the streets.

:01:41. > :01:44.Your arrogance was your downfall because nobody would doubt

:01:45. > :01:47.the word of a trusted police officer.

:01:48. > :01:51.You are a disgrace to the uniform you once wore."

:01:52. > :01:55.He is a criminal who was masquerading as a police officer.

:01:56. > :01:59.In utter betrayal, whilst his colleagues were working tirelessly

:02:00. > :02:05.to protect the public by taking drugs out of our communities,

:02:06. > :02:10.he was putting those drugs back on the street for his son to sell.

:02:11. > :02:12.Keith Boots' son, Ashley, was jailed for

:02:13. > :02:15.24 years for his part in the operation

:02:16. > :02:18.and Ian Mitchell, an associate, was jailed for five years.

:02:19. > :02:22.Today, former colleagues expressed revulsion.

:02:23. > :02:25.This is a bad apple who has acted criminally, dishonourably,

:02:26. > :02:33.disgracefully and is now reaping the justice of the court system.

:02:34. > :02:36.Keith Boots showed no emotion as he was taken to the cells,

:02:37. > :02:41.his career and reputation in ruins.

:02:42. > :02:44.A vigil has taken place in Leeds in memory of those who died

:02:45. > :02:46.after Wednesday's terror attack in London.

:02:47. > :02:49.Four people including a police officer lost their lives

:02:50. > :02:53.The event, outside Leeds Art Gallery in the city centre,

:02:54. > :02:55.has been organised by the organisation

:02:56. > :02:59.Muslim Engagement and Development or MEND.

:03:00. > :03:01.It doesn't matter what culture, what background, what faith you're

:03:02. > :03:05.from, if you're Muslim or not Muslim, we stand in solidarity.

:03:06. > :03:09.We are compassionate and pathetic beings

:03:10. > :03:12.and we feel the pain of the families that are going through a horrible

:03:13. > :03:18.time at this moment, for those who died and of course

:03:19. > :03:26.A new law which could help families sort out their missing

:03:27. > :03:28.loved one's finances has got through its final stage

:03:29. > :03:32.Claudia's Law is named after missing York chef Claudia Lawrence

:03:33. > :03:36.The bill will now move to the House of Lords

:03:37. > :03:39.where they'll decide if it should become law.

:03:40. > :03:42.As a tribute to Mr and Mrs Lawrence and how hard they have worked

:03:43. > :03:45.and their championing the cause of guardianship,

:03:46. > :03:48.and their commitment to help others in similar tragic

:03:49. > :03:51.circumstances, I very much hope, Mr Deputy Speaker, that this

:03:52. > :03:58.legislation, if affected, will always be known as Claudia's Law.
