:02:08. > :02:08.Slavery survivors are supported by the

:02:09. > :02:11.Salvation Army, who have a contract with the Government to assist those

:02:12. > :02:14.They are trapped, often not by keys, padlocks or

:02:15. > :02:21.Often those threats being realised in

:02:22. > :02:29.Men in Leeds washing our cars, women in

:02:30. > :02:35.to be aware that it could be happening right under our noses.

:02:36. > :02:38.West Yorkshire are seen as leaders around the investigative teams.

:02:39. > :02:41.We support the victims and of course the Government have made this a

:02:42. > :02:42.priority around human trafficking and modern slavery.

:02:43. > :02:45.So, I'm looking at the national level as well as the

:02:46. > :02:48.regional level to lead the way and make sure be bring to justice

:02:49. > :02:50.those who get involved in human trafficking.

:02:51. > :02:52.Once free, former slaves are later taken to safe houses

:02:53. > :03:02.like this one in West Yorkshire.

:03:03. > :03:06.Monica has been living in it since last autumn.

:03:07. > :03:08.She was trafficked from Albania and dumped

:03:09. > :03:13.next to the M1 just weeks before giving birth.

:03:14. > :03:15.When people have been rescued from modern-day slavery,

:03:16. > :03:23.They receive a welcome pack, bed, fridge, and a sink.

:03:24. > :03:25.Some have been in captivity for years.

:03:26. > :03:30.This man was freed last year as part of a police

:03:31. > :03:36.The message from the Government and the Salvation Army is

:03:37. > :03:38.that there are potentially hundreds of modern

:03:39. > :03:48.Earlier this evening, I spoke to Lara Bundock

:03:49. > :03:54.It's a charity based in Sheffield that helps survivors of human

:03:55. > :04:01.The Government support that you heard about in the feature is

:04:02. > :04:06.fantastic and I used to work on one of the safe houses.

:04:07. > :04:09.It's for a very limited period of time.

:04:10. > :04:13.At the end of that, it comes to abrupt end as

:04:14. > :04:17.We provide one to one support work and

:04:18. > :04:20.one to one councillors to deal with social work

:04:21. > :04:21.support and counsel support to

:04:22. > :04:26.That can be anything from a couple of

:04:27. > :04:29.Can victims ever recover psychologically

:04:30. > :04:31.from the trauma of being a slave being held captive?

:04:32. > :04:34.We don't have a magic wand where we can take away

:04:35. > :04:36.the past, but by putting in the counselling

:04:37. > :04:37.resources, by putting in

:04:38. > :04:45.professional help, it does help somebody to recover.

:04:46. > :04:54.Just give you an insight, we support people who

:04:55. > :04:57.have been forced into sexual exploitation from the age of 12.

:04:58. > :05:02.We work with women who have been forced

:05:03. > :05:06.to work as slaves in people's houses for the last 30 years.

:05:07. > :05:08.Men who were in vulnerable situations who have

:05:09. > :05:14.Do you think this is a hidden problem in

:05:15. > :05:16.It is certainly a hidden problem in Yorkshire,

:05:17. > :05:21.We have to do our best to be keeping our eyes open to

:05:22. > :05:23.signs, indicators of what is going on.

:05:24. > :05:27.People don't want to know that it is going on.

:05:28. > :05:29.I think it is quite a surprise to people

:05:30. > :05:31.when they hear things, like

:05:32. > :05:34.you've seen on the video, that it is going on under our noses

:05:35. > :05:50.A brief look at some of the day's other stories.

:05:51. > :05:51.An inquest's heard that a new-born baby

:05:52. > :05:54.whose body was found by workers at a waste management

:05:55. > :05:56.plant in Bradford still hasn't been identified

:05:57. > :05:59.The girl's body was found at the Associated Waste Management

:06:00. > :06:02.site in Shipley in May 2011 and her mother has never been found.

:06:03. > :06:04.The coroner recorded an open verdict said the case

:06:05. > :06:14.Tests on the UK's first Tram Train vehicle are now well

:06:15. > :06:17.The new trams, which are built in Spain,

:06:18. > :06:19.will connect Sheffield city centre to Rotherham via tram lines

:06:20. > :06:23.The project has suffered more than a year of set-backs.

:06:24. > :06:31.Services are likely to begin in the summer of 2018.

:06:32. > :06:33.Virgin Media has apologised for poor street repairs carried out

:06:34. > :06:36.A number of residents contacted their MP,

:06:37. > :06:39.Rachel Maskell, to raise concerns over the way fibre optic

:06:40. > :06:43.The company says it has since changed the way it carries out

:06:44. > :06:46.work in the city and is working with the council to resolve issues

:06:47. > :07:02.important to ensure there is quality in the work.

:07:03. > :07:05.So that people's communities are respected and that

:07:06. > :07:06.any fashion you would expect to find them.

:07:07. > :07:11.Certainly, we are hopeful for the future.

:07:12. > :07:14.Onto football - in the Championship, an important Yorkshire derby this

:07:15. > :07:15.evening with relegated Rotherham United facing

:07:16. > :07:17.a Sheffield Wednesday side still chasing a Championship

:07:18. > :07:21.BBC Radio Sheffield commentator Rob Staton was watching and joins us

:07:22. > :07:34.live from the New York stadium for us tonight.

:07:35. > :07:40.well, the Sheffield Wednesday head coach came into this game having to

:07:41. > :07:44.defend a run of just 11 in seven games. Also a team looking like they

:07:45. > :07:47.are lacking motivation. When they moved out of the play-off places

:07:48. > :07:52.this weekend, there were many comments that this would not be

:07:53. > :07:55.Sheffield Wednesday's season. This was not a classic performance by any

:07:56. > :08:01.means, but they will be very relieved to get the three point in a

:08:02. > :08:09.Yorkshire derby against Rotherham. The matchwinner on the night came

:08:10. > :08:15.from the art form striker who managed to get those goals. Gave

:08:16. > :08:19.Sheffield Wednesday the lead, Steven Fletcher that was, he has only

:08:20. > :08:22.scored nine goals this season for Sheffield Wednesday handles and

:08:23. > :08:26.combined and a third of his goals have now come against Rotherham

:08:27. > :08:32.United. His last goal game against Middlesbrough in the cop. A late

:08:33. > :08:36.goal that won that game Sheffield Wednesday. The owls, equities for

:08:37. > :08:40.them tonight as derby defeated Fulham 4-2. That each of the land

:08:41. > :08:45.they go ahead of full colour back into the top 60 night. Leeds also

:08:46. > :08:51.lost to Brentford and that means the gap between Brentford, Wednesday and

:08:52. > :08:53.leads expands. More of the same Rotherham, they are already

:08:54. > :09:00.relegated. Ninth successive defeat for them and they will now have to

:09:01. > :09:05.plan ahead for next season. We understand the interim manager Paul

:09:06. > :09:09.worn, who do go last month, is set to be announced at the club's

:09:10. > :09:13.permanent manager. That announcement is expected tomorrow. Big job on his

:09:14. > :09:19.hands to get more than ready for next season in League 1. It looks

:09:20. > :09:23.like they will finish with a record low points total in the

:09:24. > :09:27.championship, if he is announced as expected, a huge test for him.

:09:28. > :09:28.Elsewhere in the Championship, at Oakwell...

:09:29. > :09:32.And at Elland Road - Leeds United went down by two goals

:09:33. > :09:54.Not a lot for me to talk about, sadly. They settled and are mostly

:09:55. > :09:58.dry. Already thinking of the weekend, that is when it will

:09:59. > :10:02.swinging round to a south-westerly, swinging round to a south-westerly,

:10:03. > :10:06.pulling out milder air from the continent, more break in the cloud,

:10:07. > :10:09.therefore more sunny spells. This evening, though, not much anyway

:10:10. > :10:15.have sunshine but clear skies. Entry is taking a dip initially then we

:10:16. > :10:20.will see thick cloud building from the north-west. That may bring in

:10:21. > :10:25.some drizzle. Temperatures dropping to 5-7 C. Lola Rowley but only light

:10:26. > :10:32.to moderate winds. A fairly chilly start to the day. It is a flightless

:10:33. > :10:35.but that is only in the west of the region, and only thick enough to

:10:36. > :10:42.produce the odd spot of light drizzle. -- Lower rurally. Average

:10:43. > :10:46.is up to 12 Celsius tomorrow, but it will stay cloudy so no sunshine. For

:10:47. > :10:51.the next few days, largely dominated by high pressure. Much of the same.

:10:52. > :10:54.Cloudy, yes, but mostly dry. Winds will be light and then it'll swing

:10:55. > :10:59.round to a south-westerly, starting to Paulson slightly milder air for

:11:00. > :11:02.the weekend will see some nice break in the cloud and nice belt of

:11:03. > :11:03.sunshine. That's it from the late team.

:11:04. > :11:06.bit from the south, so we could get to 18 or higher on Sunday. Now the

:11:07. > :11:17.national focus. Good evening, things are looking good in the next

:11:18. > :11:20.few days, some pressure drifting in from the Atlantic, bringing some

:11:21. > :11:24.finance settled with it. Just some questions about the amount of cloud

:11:25. > :11:27.we will see under that. The cloud we saw the sea links gave rise to a

:11:28. > :11:31.lovely sunsets are many areas. This is the view from one of our weather

:11:32. > :11:35.watchers in Cornwall. Look at the tones in the sky in Warwickshire

:11:36. > :11:37.this evening. Here is the satellite sequence which

:11:38. > :11:38.shows it was
