:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening, and welcome to the late Look North.

:00:00. > :00:07.Tonight - an inquest into the death of a father in a North Yorkshire gas

:00:08. > :00:10.explosion hears he smelled fumes weeks earlier, but didn't report it.

:00:11. > :00:13.And bringing rail jobs back to Doncaster; we go inside the depot

:00:14. > :00:15.where hundreds will work on a new generation

:00:16. > :00:27.After that beautiful weekend, what do the next few days look like? Join

:00:28. > :00:33.me for the live updated forecast. A paramedic, called to the scene

:00:34. > :00:36.of a gas explosion in York, has told an inquest the damage

:00:37. > :00:38.was so devastating he "thought Paul Willmott was killed last year,

:00:39. > :00:56.after a pipe fractured The house that was demolished is now

:00:57. > :00:58.in the process of being rebuilt, while the houses alongside it are

:00:59. > :01:00.being repaired, as well. Life here on Springwood is slowly

:01:01. > :01:03.returning to normal, but 14 months ago things were far

:01:04. > :01:06.from normal here in this residential On 19th February last year,

:01:07. > :01:17.people living on Springwood, a quiet residential road in York,

:01:18. > :01:20.woke to a catastrophic scene. At around 7.30am, No 20,

:01:21. > :01:22.a detached property, was destroyed, in what was later confirmed to be

:01:23. > :01:28.a gas explosion. The owner of the house,

:01:29. > :01:30.63-year-old Paul Willmot, The inquest heard he had suffered

:01:31. > :01:33.serious head injuries Andrew Hewison,

:01:34. > :01:39.an ambulance paramedic, of the first emergency

:01:40. > :01:42.workers to arrive. Today, he described

:01:43. > :01:46.a scene of devastation. Mr Hewison was asked by the coroner

:01:47. > :01:49.what he saw when he arrived. He said it was evident one house

:01:50. > :01:52.was completely missing. He said residents looked

:01:53. > :01:55.dazed and confused. He was then asked, what did

:01:56. > :01:58.you think had happened? To that, he replied,

:01:59. > :02:01."I thought a plane had crashed. Mr Willmot's partner,

:02:02. > :02:10.Olivia Castello, told a strange smell in the house several

:02:11. > :02:18.weeks before; an ants' nest, though, was discovered in the wall,

:02:19. > :02:21.and that they thought was to blame, The inquest heard that a unique

:02:22. > :02:26.combination of stress and corrosion was to blame for the gas pipe's

:02:27. > :02:28.fracture, while heavy rain prior to the explosion may have also been

:02:29. > :02:31.a contributing factor, Hundreds of highly skilled jobs

:02:32. > :02:42.are being created in Doncaster to service a fleet of trains that

:02:43. > :02:45.will cut journey times and increase capacity on the line between

:02:46. > :02:48.Yorkshire London and Scotland. capacity on the line

:02:49. > :02:49.between Yorkshire, Hitachi is investing

:02:50. > :02:52.?80 million in the site. It'll create 250 new,

:02:53. > :02:56.highly skilled jobs for 27 years. The new trains themselves will help

:02:57. > :02:59.cut journey times from Leeds and mean more than

:03:00. > :03:06.12,000 extra seats. Phil Bodmer was given exclusive

:03:07. > :03:08.access to the depot, which is hoped will breathe new life

:03:09. > :03:11.into the rail industry This is the train its makers say

:03:12. > :03:20.is set to revolutionise rail With faster acceleration,

:03:21. > :03:28.more seats and greater comfort, the Azuma, or class 800,

:03:29. > :03:30.train built by Hitachi of more than ?5 billion

:03:31. > :03:36.over the next 27 years. And they will be cared for in

:03:37. > :03:45.Doncaster. Welcome to Hitachi. First day, and the beginning

:03:46. > :03:49.of a new career for these inductees. Among them 33-year-old

:03:50. > :03:52.Gareth Bell from Pontefract. A former military aircraft

:03:53. > :03:58.engineer, he's switching Skill sets are very similar,

:03:59. > :04:02.so anything electrical or mechanical background fits really well

:04:03. > :04:05.with what I did as a Royal It is a great place to set up

:04:06. > :04:11.a depot, because if you think of all that heritage and all that

:04:12. > :04:14.infrastructure that is already The town has a long association

:04:15. > :04:23.with railway engineering. The world-famous flying Scotsman

:04:24. > :04:25.and Mullard were both built at the nearby plant works just

:04:26. > :04:28.a stone's throw away Tradition may be important,

:04:29. > :04:35.but the new depot is a far cry from the old workshops,

:04:36. > :04:37.packed with technology, the like of which its Victorian

:04:38. > :04:51.forebears could never have imagined. With 250 new jobs

:04:52. > :04:54.helping breathe new life Hitachi says local suppliers are

:04:55. > :04:58.also used when and where possible. We have taken people

:04:59. > :05:01.from the local area. We have also taken

:05:02. > :05:03.people from the Forces. It is a very good location,

:05:04. > :05:12.geographically, so it is actually a good place to get trains

:05:13. > :05:15.back to each night. We have the skill sets within

:05:16. > :05:18.the area to maintain the trains. By the time the depot

:05:19. > :05:20.is fully operational, will be serviced here each day,

:05:21. > :05:31.helping maintain two fleets from Virgin East Coast

:05:32. > :05:32.and Trans-Pennine Express Police officers around Yorkshire

:05:33. > :05:38.have paid their respects to PC Keith Palmer, who was killed in

:05:39. > :05:44.the Westminster attack last month. A two minutes' silence was observed

:05:45. > :05:46.at the West Yorkshire Police training centre near Wakefield,

:05:47. > :05:49.as well as by officers in South Officers from our region were also

:05:50. > :06:03.among those to line the route of PC To show support for our colleagues

:06:04. > :06:08.down here. Like my colleagues are said, we are a big family, so it

:06:09. > :06:09.just made sense to come down and do our bit.

:06:10. > :06:11.Work to improve the A1 in North Yorkshire has

:06:12. > :06:13.been delayed, partly because of an unexpected

:06:14. > :06:17.A scheme to upgrade the dual carriageway to a three-lane motorway

:06:18. > :06:19.between Leeming and Barton was due to be finished by June.

:06:20. > :06:22.But it now won't be completed until the end of the year,

:06:23. > :06:27.following the discovery of some Roman artefacts.

:06:28. > :06:30.On to sport now, and both Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers

:06:31. > :06:33.fans are celebrating, after their clubs secured promotion.

:06:34. > :06:36.The two teams have dominated their divisions this season,

:06:37. > :06:39.and both knew a win on Saturday would send them up with

:06:40. > :06:45.For the Blades, experts say it also means a cash windfall of around

:06:46. > :07:00.Two pitches turn from green to red and white on a fantastic afternoon

:07:01. > :07:03.for football in South Yorkshire. For Sheffield United, these faces tell

:07:04. > :07:08.you how much it means, after six years in League 1. Thousands watched

:07:09. > :07:17.on a big screen at Bramall Lane, as the Blades beat Northampton Town

:07:18. > :07:21.away 2-1. Absolutely amazing, honestly, like the best feeling in a

:07:22. > :07:26.long time. Six years of pain, what a team. When we went down from the

:07:27. > :07:31.Championship I was 17, and now I look 30, and I think that's the

:07:32. > :07:39.result of League 1! We have turned losing positions in the draws and

:07:40. > :07:41.one Di and winds. To win something, to gain promotion have to do a lot

:07:42. > :07:46.of things right and this team has from the day they walked through the

:07:47. > :07:50.door. As well as pride and prestige, promotion also brings pounds, about

:07:51. > :07:53.7 million of them, for Sheffield United. It is significant in the

:07:54. > :07:58.context of the playing budget. It context of the playing budget. It

:07:59. > :08:01.will help with their player acquisitions over the summer and

:08:02. > :08:04.paying the players wages on a weekly basis and of course you need to

:08:05. > :08:09.compete with those teams in the Championship. Having that extra ?7

:08:10. > :08:11.million in the budget is very, very helpful. Relegated to League 2 last

:08:12. > :08:15.season, Doncaster needed to beat season, Doncaster needed to beat

:08:16. > :08:19.Mansfield to go straight back up, and they did, 1-0. As the final

:08:20. > :08:24.wait to start the party. I was one wait to start the party. I was one

:08:25. > :08:28.of the 900 stood in the old Bellevue crying when we went down to the

:08:29. > :08:31.Conference, so I am here today celebrating now, because it is a

:08:32. > :08:35.tremendous feat they have done. Doncaster has had a lot of down,

:08:36. > :08:42.down, down, now we're on the up again, thank God for that. Feel very

:08:43. > :08:47.happy, they deserve to go up. Is my wife hasn't already pulled me a tin

:08:48. > :08:51.of John Smith's, and put it in a glass, there will be a divorce in my

:08:52. > :08:54.house, no doubt! You have got to enjoy moments like this, you just

:08:55. > :08:57.never know when you will get them again. The players have fully

:08:58. > :09:02.deserved it, they will have a good night we want to kick on. We want to

:09:03. > :09:05.have a good go at League 1 now. There might just be one or two sore

:09:06. > :09:08.heads on the training ground when this lot get back to work. Next job

:09:09. > :09:17.for both clubs, win the league. It really was a fantastic weekend.

:09:18. > :09:22.He promised to take the outfit in in our break. Tell them what we had.

:09:23. > :09:29.Beans on toast. He's not lying! You are a very lucky lady. It has gone

:09:30. > :09:33.down a storm. Just a reminder of how warm it was yesterday, 22 degrees,

:09:34. > :09:36.that is the Leeds Liverpool Canal in Silsden. We won't be lucky with the

:09:37. > :09:40.temp just this week, a lot of dry weather especially across the

:09:41. > :09:43.eastern areas, there is tomorrow's headline, bright and breezy. A

:09:44. > :09:46.little weather front will bring patchy rain Wednesday morning,

:09:47. > :09:50.Thursday looks reasonable enough and then another little weather front

:09:51. > :09:53.brings further patchy rain mainly to the West on Friday, but I think

:09:54. > :10:01.amounts of rain will be quite small. As for the week and, not looking too

:10:02. > :10:05.bad. Might be mostly fine Sunday and into the bank holiday Monday. Fairly

:10:06. > :10:08.quiet out there at the moment. It is dried, the breeze will pick up

:10:09. > :10:14.later, quite chilly Romelu looking at temperatures drifting back to

:10:15. > :10:17.four Celsius. 39 Fahrenheit. A little higher as you might expect in

:10:18. > :10:22.towns and city centres. For tomorrow, quite a windy day, cool

:10:23. > :10:25.across the Pennines. Skies will be partly cloudy at times but there

:10:26. > :10:29.will be some sunshine, the best of that will be across eastern parts of

:10:30. > :10:36.our region. We will see temp just close the average for this time of

:10:37. > :10:39.the year. 12 Celsius, 54 Fahrenheit. In the Tuesday evening, it looks

:10:40. > :10:42.fine with further sunny spells in that week front I told you about

:10:43. > :10:46.will thicken cloud later in the night. In the Wednesday morning.

:10:47. > :10:49.There it is, bringing some rain chiefly for the Pennine areas, very

:10:50. > :10:53.little getting towards the east but that is the way that Wednesday

:10:54. > :10:57.morning, patchy rain in the morning, bright in them afternoon with some

:10:58. > :11:02.sunshine, mostly dry Thursday, a bit patchy rain Friday. Sunshine and

:11:03. > :11:03.showers for Easter Saturday. That is it from Keeley and myself, I

:11:04. > :11:16.Good evening. Let's cut to the chase the first big holiday weekend of the

:11:17. > :11:20.year is on the horizon and if you consider last weekend as a taster

:11:21. > :11:24.for the summer, this weekend is not looking too bad. It will be a bit

:11:25. > :11:27.cooler, temperatures this week and closer to where they should be at

:11:28. > :11:32.this time of the year thanks to the north-west breed and the reason for

:11:33. > :11:36.that, if we look at the jet stream, coming across the Atlantic pushing

:11:37. > :11:42.from north to south -- north-west breeze. It separates the high

:11:43. > :11:44.pressure and low price and it allows the northerly airflow to develop. It

:11:45. > :11:45.means
