0:00:27 > 0:00:29CHEERING

0:00:29 > 0:00:31The Easter holidays have always been a popular time

0:00:31 > 0:00:34for a trip to Wentworth Castle Gardens.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36A host of children's activities keeps visitors

0:00:36 > 0:00:39rolling in year after year.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41But today was the last.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44Wentworth Castle Gardens is now closed.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47The problem here is one of money.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Since this place opened ten years ago, some 500,000 people have

0:00:50 > 0:00:53been through its gates.

0:00:53 > 0:00:54But the trust that runs Wentworth Castle Gardens

0:00:54 > 0:00:58says its income just isn't enough to cover the running costs.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01Of course, without public support and public money,

0:01:01 > 0:01:04much of Wentworth wouldn't look this good.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07The Victorian conservatory was featured on BBC Two's Restoration

0:01:07 > 0:01:14programme, and was resotred at a cost of ?4 million in 2013.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16Lottery funding and other grants paid for it, along with donations

0:01:16 > 0:01:21from members of the public, who will now lose access to it.

0:01:21 > 0:01:26If it's out of money that was given, what a place to close down.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28It's a shame, it's horrible.

0:01:28 > 0:01:29In't it, Fred?

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Some lovely grounds and everything, it just doesn't seem right.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35It's a shame, in't it?

0:01:35 > 0:01:38They just seemed to have got everything finished.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40It should be in its heyday now, shouldn't it?

0:01:40 > 0:01:42Not closing down.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45They call Wentworth the lost garden of South Yorkshire.

0:01:45 > 0:01:49Now, after ?20 million of restoration and ten years

0:01:49 > 0:01:53of visitors, it's being lost to view once more.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Police are continuing their investigations into six deaths

0:02:00 > 0:02:03in Yorkshire over the weekend thought to be linked to drugs.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07In West Yorkshire, a 36-year-old man from Leeds and a 27-year-old man

0:02:07 > 0:02:09from Normanton died on Saturday.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13In South Yorkshire, two people who were arrested after four

0:02:13 > 0:02:18deaths have been released pending further enquiries.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21The remains of a medieval priest who died 700 years ago

0:02:21 > 0:02:23has been uncovered at the site of a 14th-century

0:02:23 > 0:02:25monastery hospital in Linconshire.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Archaeologists from the University of Sheffield found the skeletal

0:02:28 > 0:02:33remains at Thornton Abbey.

0:02:33 > 0:02:34Shirley Henry reports.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Thornton Abbey, a 14th century monastery in rural Lincolnshire.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42With hidden secrets.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45For the last six years, archaeologists from the

0:02:45 > 0:02:49University of Sheffield have been slowly unveiling its past.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Most recently, the remains of a medieval priest.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56He died 700 years ago.

0:02:56 > 0:03:00His name was Richard de Wispeton.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03It was incredible to actually find a named person.

0:03:03 > 0:03:08Because, as archaeologists, we find skeletal remains quite often.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12But to actually find someone whose name you know and the date of when

0:03:12 > 0:03:20they died and their position within society is very rare.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24Richard would have been highly regarded in medieval society,

0:03:24 > 0:03:27but his life was far from perfect.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31A slight dent in his skull shows he suffered a violent truama.

0:03:31 > 0:03:36And marks on his teeth reveal a period of stress or malnutrition.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39It's thought he died during the great famine.

0:03:40 > 0:03:42He was aged about 35.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45It's important, because it gives us a little snapshot of the past

0:03:45 > 0:03:47we wouldn't ordinarily have.

0:03:47 > 0:03:51As archaeologists, the past is normally nameless and faceless.

0:03:51 > 0:03:56Here, we have a named individual, we can find out about their lives,

0:03:56 > 0:04:02it puts a bit of a human face on a century that's a long time ago.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05This find is part of a bigger project.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08Last year, 48 skeletons, many of them children,

0:04:08 > 0:04:12were found at the same site.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15When the research is complete, Richard's remains will be laid

0:04:15 > 0:04:20to rest at a church in Barton-upon-Humber.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26In football, there's one result from tonight.

0:04:26 > 0:04:28It was a draw for Huddersfield away at Derby, both sides

0:04:28 > 0:04:31scoring one goal each.

0:04:31 > 0:04:33The football results from games played earlier in the day

0:04:33 > 0:04:36are on the BBC Sport website, and for action from this weekend's

0:04:36 > 0:04:39rugby league you can tune into the Superleague Show with Tanya

0:04:39 > 0:04:45on BBC One at 11:50 tonight.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48A look at Yorkshire's weather now with Jen Bartram.

0:04:48 > 0:04:50Hello there, good evening.

0:04:50 > 0:04:51Quite a chilly night to come tonight.

0:04:51 > 0:04:56These showers will gradually sink southwards, leaving clear skies.

0:04:56 > 0:05:00Under those skies, we expect a frost to develop.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03These are the temperatures you can expect in towns and cities.

0:05:03 > 0:05:07In rural spots, it could get down to -4 Celsius,

0:05:07 > 0:05:11so gardeners take note.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14A chilly start to Tuesday morning, but a dry and bright start.

0:05:14 > 0:05:19Plenty sunshine first thing, but high cloud rolls

0:05:19 > 0:05:23and from the West later on, turning that sunshine a little hazy.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Temperatures tomorrow feeling very much like today,

0:05:25 > 0:05:31highs of 11 degrees, and a light, northeasterly breeze.

0:05:31 > 0:05:34Through the rest of the week, plenty of cloud in the forecast,

0:05:34 > 0:05:38turning a little milder by the time we get to Thursday.

0:05:38 > 0:05:42That's all for now, we'll be back with your first Breakfast bulletin
