:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to the late Look North.

:00:00. > :00:08.Yorkshire prepares for a general election -

:00:09. > :00:12.we'll have reaction to today's announcement by Theresa May.

:00:13. > :00:16.And six drug deaths in South and West Yorkshire over Easter -

:00:17. > :00:30.And there was some lovely, sparkling sunshine and offer across Yorkshire

:00:31. > :00:35.today. But how's tomorrow looking? Full forecast shortly.

:00:36. > :00:38.In just over seven weeks, we'll go to the polls

:00:39. > :00:40.for another general election - and once again, Yorkshire is

:00:41. > :00:46.The Prime Minister says she wants to strengthen her position ahead

:00:47. > :00:49.of talks about Britain leaving the European Union.

:00:50. > :00:51.Parliament still has to approve the plan,

:00:52. > :00:53.which has been welcomed by opposition parties.

:00:54. > :00:57.Our data journalist David Rhodes looks at the state of play

:00:58. > :01:02.Politically, we can break our region down into three distinct blocks.

:01:03. > :01:05.In North Yorkshire, the Conservatives are dominant.

:01:06. > :01:08.They hold seven out of the eight seats.

:01:09. > :01:10.Labour's only seat is in York Central.

:01:11. > :01:14.And given the strong pro-EU vote during the Brexit referendum,

:01:15. > :01:18.the Liberal Democrats may look to target this seat.

:01:19. > :01:20.They'll probably have an eye on Harrogate as well.

:01:21. > :01:24.A constituency that the Lib Dems have held in the past.

:01:25. > :01:27.Now, let's move to South Yorkshire and the North Midlands.

:01:28. > :01:32.Out of 18 seats, Labour holds 17, while Nick Clegg, the former

:01:33. > :01:36.Deputy Prime Minister, holds one for the Liberal Democrats,

:01:37. > :01:45.However, in 2015, UKIP came second in ten of the seats

:01:46. > :01:48.Post-Brexit, can Ukip this time go one better.

:01:49. > :01:51.And let's not forget the Green Party - they came second

:01:52. > :01:54.in Sheffield Central last time and the former leader of the Greens,

:01:55. > :01:57.Natalie Bennett, has already said she will be contesting this seat.

:01:58. > :02:00.But it is in West Yorkshire where we find the key

:02:01. > :02:06.Here there are 22 seats, 14 are held by Labour, seven

:02:07. > :02:09.by the Conservatives and there is one Lib Dem.

:02:10. > :02:12.Last time in Bradford East, Dewsbury and Morley and outward -

:02:13. > :02:16.all the seats changed hands between the main parties.

:02:17. > :02:20.One of the most high-profile moments came in Morley,

:02:21. > :02:23.when Labour Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls lost his seat

:02:24. > :02:30.These are the ten most marginal constituencies in Yorkshire.

:02:31. > :02:36.And with it looking like there'll be maybe seven weeks

:02:37. > :02:40.this is where we should see the main political parties

:02:41. > :02:47.These seats could also, potentially, have the biggest impact

:02:48. > :02:53.We've been asking voters in one of those most marginal seats -

:02:54. > :02:57.Dewsbury - for their reaction to today's announcement.

:02:58. > :03:02.I do think it's needed to have a clearer mandate in order

:03:03. > :03:14.Conservatives, they didn't do anything for the working class.

:03:15. > :03:20.And I think if there was a party that was campaigning to either stop

:03:21. > :03:23.the process or to come out of Brexit, I think that

:03:24. > :03:26.would certainly be the party I would vote for.

:03:27. > :03:30.It's the first general election since I turned 18,

:03:31. > :03:32.and a lot of my friends are raelly excited to vote.

:03:33. > :03:36.But I have no idea which way I'm going to vote, so I'm going to have

:03:37. > :03:40.Meanwhile, Yorkshire MPs have been reacting to the news

:03:41. > :03:44.Brexit is going to be a major part of this election,

:03:45. > :03:49.We have got some serious negotiations to happen.

:03:50. > :03:51.But this is also about electing a Government

:03:52. > :03:56.And yes, we've got to talk about the economy and how

:03:57. > :03:59.we keep on making that a stable and growing economy and how

:04:00. > :04:00.that works for ordinary, working families in Yorkshire

:04:01. > :04:05.This is also an opportunity for people in Leeds and Yorkshire

:04:06. > :04:08.to send a message from our area, down here to Westminster,

:04:09. > :04:12.that they've been treated badly by this Government.

:04:13. > :04:14.They've been taken for granted by this Government, and Labour can

:04:15. > :04:17.offer a better future for the majority of lower

:04:18. > :04:23.Our political reporter James Vincent joins us now live from Sheffield.

:04:24. > :04:26.James, we've got some big-name politicians in Yorkshire -

:04:27. > :04:29.what do we know so far about who's standing for re-election

:04:30. > :04:45.It has been a furious day of uncles, journalists wanting to know who is

:04:46. > :04:50.and isn't standing. Some of the stalwarts were known, Greg

:04:51. > :04:54.Mulholland you heard from there, one of the two Liberal Democrats. Hilary

:04:55. > :04:57.Benn said he would stand again to be a Leeds MP.

:04:58. > :05:04.Andrea Jenkins, and your MP, she is responsible for Ed Balls losing his

:05:05. > :05:10.job. ASBO she is responsible for him being on Strictly Come Dancing as

:05:11. > :05:14.well. But who is not standing two we have not heard anything from Ed

:05:15. > :05:19.Miliband, is he going to stand again? And we're hearing Nick Clegg

:05:20. > :05:23.is meeting with his party in the next few hours to decide what he

:05:24. > :05:27.wants to do. Is he going to decide he wants another five years of being

:05:28. > :05:32.Sheffield Hallam MP to get selected? Or is he going to say I've had seven

:05:33. > :05:36.years been in the spotlight, I want to do something else. There are big

:05:37. > :05:42.moment. moment.

:05:43. > :05:48.Have important you think Yorkshire is going to be in the selection?

:05:49. > :05:51.Really important. If we had the personality is the last time, like

:05:52. > :05:58.people like Ed Miliband and make lab, we have the places this time.

:05:59. > :06:01.-- and Nick Clegg. We've got the ones that given the polls and the

:06:02. > :06:06.amount of support the Conservatives seem to have, we have places like

:06:07. > :06:11.York, Aniston and Stocksbridge that may become, because of the polling,

:06:12. > :06:16.become modules themselves. There will be some interesting fights to

:06:17. > :06:18.be had. -- become marginals themselves.

:06:19. > :06:24.And will thus become a Brexit election?

:06:25. > :06:27.It will be very interesting and very quickly to see where the parties

:06:28. > :06:33.placed themselves. To see what Ukip think about the referendum. The way

:06:34. > :06:39.that the Tories and the Labour Party is frame their policies around exit

:06:40. > :06:42.and how they pitch it to voters will be very interesting. And how the

:06:43. > :06:48.bounds sending of that Brexit policy news with the other stuff that we

:06:49. > :06:49.normally expect to see. It will be very interesting indeed.

:06:50. > :06:51.Thank you much. Police have issued a warning to drug

:06:52. > :06:54.users in South and West Yorkshire to use caution following six deaths

:06:55. > :06:56.over the Easter weekend. Detectives haven't officially

:06:57. > :06:59.linked the deaths, but say they are considering

:07:00. > :07:01.whether a strong or contaminated Our health correspondent

:07:02. > :07:08.Jamie Coulson reports. Highly addictive

:07:09. > :07:11.and highly dangerous. For the those who are hooked

:07:12. > :07:13.on heroin, the prospect of withdrawal can

:07:14. > :07:16.outweigh the risk of a potentially Junior, who did not

:07:17. > :07:21.want to be identified, I do heroin and crack

:07:22. > :07:25.cocaine together. Some days you don't really

:07:26. > :07:28.want to exist, so I'm not There have been six deaths

:07:29. > :07:34.across South and West Yorkshire over the Easter weekend which police

:07:35. > :07:39.believe are related to class A drugs, and while those deaths

:07:40. > :07:41.haven't been officially linked, Police in both forces have urged

:07:42. > :07:50.drug users to use caution. Four people died in

:07:51. > :07:53.the Barnsley area on Friday. Police are awaiting test results,

:07:54. > :07:56.but believe the deaths There were two more deaths

:07:57. > :08:02.in West Yorkshire the following day. Police are continuing

:08:03. > :08:07.to investigate but believe these deaths are related

:08:08. > :08:09.to class A drugs. Drug users often have their own

:08:10. > :08:11.medical history which could But there is also the possibility

:08:12. > :08:15.of unusually strong drug supply in the market and also potentially

:08:16. > :08:18.something that's been added to the drugs to cut it

:08:19. > :08:21.and make it go further. Two people arrested

:08:22. > :08:23.in South Yorkshire on suspicion of supplying drugs have been

:08:24. > :08:27.released under investigation, while four people arrested

:08:28. > :08:31.in West Yorkshire have been released Despite the warnings,

:08:32. > :08:35.Junior says he has little choice but to carry on,

:08:36. > :08:38.feeding an addiction he describes A missing 14-year-old girl

:08:39. > :08:47.from Huddersfield has been West Yorkshire Police say

:08:48. > :08:51.Alicia Moran, who disappeared on Sunday, was located in Bristol

:08:52. > :08:55.and is on her way home. A man has been arrested

:08:56. > :08:59.on suspicion of child abduction. Controversial plans to build

:09:00. > :09:02.a new school on a former landfill site in Sheffield have been given

:09:03. > :09:04.the go-ahead by councillors. The council says the three-storey

:09:05. > :09:07.building is needed in Millhouses because demand for school places

:09:08. > :09:11.in southwest Sheffield is growing. Objectors say building on landfill

:09:12. > :09:15.could be dangerous and that local roads would struggle to cope

:09:16. > :09:28.with increased traffic. Time to check out the weather with

:09:29. > :09:34.Owain. Thanks very much, safe to say it was

:09:35. > :09:39.a lovely day in Yorkshire. Wherever you work, you saw some blue skies.

:09:40. > :09:44.Doncaster looking good first thing this morning. A little later on

:09:45. > :09:51.there a couple of clouds around. The cloud tended to build, if we switch

:09:52. > :09:56.over to the satellite image. You can see the clouds increases throughout

:09:57. > :10:01.the day. We do tend to continue with that trend tonight. It will be

:10:02. > :10:07.chilly, mostly dry, maybe some drizzle and light rain across

:10:08. > :10:12.northern and western parts. Lows in towns of five Celsius. We could see

:10:13. > :10:15.some frost tomorrow morning. In parts of South Yorkshire, heading

:10:16. > :10:20.towards the north and east, it's a good start. Bright sunshine getting

:10:21. > :10:26.cloudier from the Norse. Again, the odd spot of drivel -- spot of

:10:27. > :10:35.drizzle. A light breeze. High-pressure still in charge. We

:10:36. > :10:39.will see a settled night. Still cloudy, low cloud and mist perhaps

:10:40. > :10:45.on the Pennines. Just the odd chance of drizzle. There is a high

:10:46. > :10:50.pressure, you can see this front here, getting towards us towards the

:10:51. > :10:56.end of the week. We can do is about breaks of rain with it, but light

:10:57. > :11:00.and patchy generally speaking. If you like the dry weather, good news,

:11:01. > :11:02.not so much if you want rain for your gardens. A settled story, but

:11:03. > :11:04.cloudy.
